Final Fantasy 12 was first released way back in 2006 on the PS2. At the time, it was considered somewhat controversial by many Final Fantasy fans due to its departure from traditional FF gameplay. However, it is now looked back on fondly and many would consider Final Fantasy XII to be the best entry in the franchise. In 2007 the International Zodiac edition was released (in Japan only), and this version of the game included a more traditional job-based system and a new battle areana. For this remastered release, these additional changes are being brought to us fans in the West for the first time ever - along with high resolution textures and remastered soundtrack!

There's a few inaccuracies in this video. The biggest one is that the Concurrence you get is not tied to the number in your chain, but rather the number of each level of Quickenings you use. You can get a 30-chain and still only get Inferno (although that would be incredibly rare). The best Concurrence (Black Hole) requires 4 Quickenings used of each type (and thus could be done with a 12-chain). Luminescence requires 3 of each type. The weakest, Inferno, requires 3 Level 1 Quickenings, whereas Cataclysm requires 6 Level 1 Quickenings (changed from the original version). So if you only ever use Lvl 1 Quickenings, the best Concurrence you'll get is Cataclysm. This is why it's important to vary what level you use instead of only going after the weakest level, since a lot of your damage (and an AoE effect) comes from the Concurrence.
Another thing to note: despite each Concurrence having an element in its depiction, they all deal non-elemental damage in Zodiac Age (not sure about the original). So you don't have to worry about Inferno healing Belias for example.
The second major error, imo, is that you said there was no way to replenish Mist Charges outside of touching a save crystal. This is wrong. Anything that replenishes MP also replenishes Mist. An Ether only replenishes a tiny amount, but a Hi-Ether can replenish almost an entire bar (Ether Lore should affect this, I believe). Invert (swaps MP and HP values) can instantly refill your Mist Charges just like in the original. Headsman and other similar augments that grant MP after doing certain actions like dealing damage or killing an enemy will also grant Mist. And of course, just walking around will charge your Mist slowly. I haven't mathed it out, but I believe that your Mist Charges still equal about 1/3 of your total MP (assuming you have 3 charges), and anything that restores MP will restore an equivalent amount of Mist. If this isn't exactly the case, it's pretty close. Conversely, things that use or nullify MP don't necessarily mess with Quickenings. MP Drain effects do not reduce Mist. Magick Seals do not prevent Quickenings from being used in Zodiac Age.
All in all, a fairly good video, but slightly incorrect. The wiki has a ton of info you can check when making videos to ensure you stay accurate.
Here I was, thinking that they must have changed the mechanics for concurrences in Zodiac Age. Thanks for the correction. Saves me the trouble of doing a search on this.
After watching the whole video.. I still have no clue how to use quickenings
same... LOL
he hasnt explained f/a really lol
he explained it ...maybe you didn'T have unlocked it yet . the Mist-Teks - Quickenings are the Charakter "supermoves" you can learn them on your Bords . after getting the one you like you can cast those moves in combat . He was talking about how to chain a lot of them to do the most possible dmg with them.
@@damnugly yeah but when you use a quickening what do you do? the fancy cutscene plays and looks like you're suppose to press something but it doesnt tell you
@@ThisisCitrus pretty much.
I remember using quickenings in FF12 back in PS2 Era. I just spammed R2 and the 3 buttons about 240 times a minute. That way I almost always got at least x4 x4 x2, in Lvl 1, 2, 3 respectively and often got to trigger Black Hole.
Edit: Note, I think my record with this spam, as super lucky was like...28+ or something insanely high like that.
I now have a better idea on what on earth quickenings are, still gonna fail miserably at using them but now I atleast know why.
Anyone wanna explain why Balthier's whistle is so loud
thanks this really helped me defeat demon wall
Thank you for this great video. I was so confused by this until watching your video. Subscribed
I think I've capped out the combo at 26. Happened when I was fighting Zodiark, the Dark Matter didn't finish him off so I went all out with Quickenings.
Haven't watched the video yet but since playing on the ps2 method I always turned my controller on the side and then mashed R2 along with triangle square and x and hoped for the best. Did that with zodiac age and never had a problem getting the trophy
same here hahaha
This is great advice. I will try this! Button mashing FTW!
Best use for quickenings is skipping invincible phases on hunts and bosses often allowing you to beat certain hunts way before you are at a level to be considered reasonable for taking them out like with trickster for instance.
I have never noticed the Mist Charge option 😔 I was wondering why I have short combos
Yeah, it can be easy to miss if you not looking for it.
very helpful thanks
Pretty sure I’m not the only one who relied on Quickenings on my first play through. Really useful for palings and when you don’t want to take damage. It’s how I got Cúchulainn at like level 25.
Tip: It helps to keep track of how much mist you have when you do a quickening. That way, you can predict what buttons are going to come out next. After that you can choose which character would be best to use or keep a look out for the character that needs a recharge. I can regularly get to low 20s but I think the most I got was like 33 or 34.
EJC i cheesed the chocobo Hunt by finishing it off with quickenings before it went invinciblity.
This guide was most helpful! Thank you very much!!
Great, thanks!
Thanks that was very helpful :)
Nice guide, I was stuck on Zeromus for quite some time
Very detailed explanation. Good work.
Thanks, glad you enjoyed.
I liked the video but to get a better concurrence you have to have a certian number or more of different levels. One video that I saw the showed how to get each level was lemoneatingcow's video on how to get the mist walker trophy.
I remember in the ps2 I had 40+ chain against Adremalech. I was under leveled but the quickening chain is op.
Helpful 👍👍👍
so quickenings is like zell limit break from ff viii which you need to chain pressing buttons im combos?
the trick is : after used 3 chars quick (vann, basch, pene or whatever) change party member : 1 that have full quick gause, 2 empty. then u can spam 3 more times
Sooooo....You stick them with the pointy end?
I remember beating Adramalech on original ff12 on ps2 with quickening abd then since i got him rly early in the game i solo with him and vaan and got huge amount of exp and lvl up till 45 quite quickly...this game is so underrated and imho is with ff7 among best...ps2 barely could hold on with graphic and special effects of magic and summons
FFXII IS the best FF game IMHO.
I'm not sure what it was but I remember able to pull off 20+ mist chains easily on the ps2, but then again I always started off boss battles by firing them off, considering they were still attached to MP at the time. I haven't used them in The Zodiac Age all that much purely because I haven't needed, but with my 2nd battle with Gilgamesh they were the only reason I won. Was only level 46-52 and on his final "instance" (10% health, when you're able to steal Genji Armor and he goes immune to all damage), even with bubble, he hit for my entire health bar; and I had no choice but to "stop time" with mist charges. I did 3 different chains on him, and got 17 as my highest. The highest I ever remember was 42 back on the ps2 version.
Digital_U4ia so scathe being in the room right before didn’t help at all?
So do you have to hold R2 or just press it once to rest it's self?
Did Zodiac Age update to allow Ethers to restore Mist charges, or was last point simply an error? Ethers do restore Mist charge now.
By the way Fuzz ether does restore the charge just not that much, if wanted someone could use an elixir to restore their charges completely.
I only use it for bosses. I like it better in the original when it trippled MP lol
Same
Michael Reeves but it doesn’t use mp meaning using it doesn’t screw you over if you need to heal afterwards. Also quickenings make trickster way easier then most of the hunts of their hunter rank where most people have a much harder time then other hunts of that rank because you can skip the invincibility straight to killing them.
is quickening really good ? i just played the whole game without using single quickenings, or even espers.
For me, if iget a 6 combo im good iguess, at 9 im happy, 12 is like the best normally, and my personal best has been 16, I wanna say 17 but im not sure, less than 4 or no concurrence is basically a fail. Ive seen black hole concurrence only once.
Gah, I wish we could have plain ol' limit breaks like we used to
Ethers do actually fill your mist bar... Not sure how you didn't know that!!!
where you find quikeing at plasase help
Don't forget the Desperation Attacks in Final Fantasy 6.
Thanks man, this guide was really helpfull to me. Luckily for me I still remember the system a bit because I played the ol FF12
If you do a mist charge but runs out of time. Will he habw max mp after that?
PhilipOllila Master negative. You'll be at zero.
just hold r2 then keep pressing as fast as you can square, x, and triangle, I did on ps2 and will do it on ps4 too. haha
I'd enjoy this game considerably more if Quickenings weren't part of it.
Frito You can totally ignore them and keep playing, I'm through Cerobi and never used quickenings and probably won't have to in the future.
It's still a dope game, but I wish 12's "Limit Breaks" were more coherent
Do the mist charge refill options refill only that characters charges or all the characters?
All characters
Which every character it's on it fills that one characters mist.
I broke many controllers rolling my fists over my ps2 controller trying to trigger anything/everything. Didn't know it had a "recipe" to get decent results lol. I'm too set in my ways to turn back. RIP Xbox controller
I have broken 30 plenty of times and your concurrence isnt based on just how many you get but number of specific concurrences you use. I also use 3 and just switch on out when want to use multiple concurrences. How to get 30+? Just be fast and stop wasting time subconsciously trying to count or keep track and mist charge every time you can and always double hit that so you use the one that charged. that also saves time
Usually this is a really good way to save time. I've found recently that mashing the same as Mist Charge often ends up making me miss out on another Mist Charge though. I've been trying to stop myself from mashing when everyone is out of Mist and just look to see white anywhere else.
I got up to number 20
Not sure if someone else covered this elsewhere in the comments, but here are the official parameters for each type of concurrence finisher (in order from least powerful to most powerful):
INFERNO (power = 90): requires 3x level 1 quickenings
CATACLYSM (power = 110): requires 6x level 1 quickenings
TORRENT (power = 130): requires 2x level 1’s and 2x level 2’s
WINDBLAST (power = 155): requires 4x level 2’s
ARK BLAST (power = 175): requires 2x of each level quickening; 2x lvl 1, 2x lvl 2, 2x lvl 3
WHITEOUT (power = 205): requires 4x level 3 quickenings
LUMINESCENCE (power = 215): requires 3x of each level quickening
BLACK HOLE (power = 253): requires 4x of each type of quickening
...i’ve personally managed to pull off all except for Black Hole thus far. it’s pretty difficult and definitely RNG/luck based to get this right since those 4x level 3’s make it necessary for at least one character to receive a mist recharge so they can do a second level 3 (assuming the other two level 3’s are completed by one or both of the other characters).
I’ve played around with starting off my chain with a level 3 in hopes of having whoever casts it to receive a mist charge before the timer expires and the chain ends. I’ve also attempted to begin with level 1’s in hopes of getting those out of the way and then getting lucky by receiving recharges and setting off the lvl 2’s and 3’s. Obviously, i haven’t had success with either method yet and honestly can’t say starting with lvl 1’s, lvl 2’s or lvl 3’s is best. In all likelihood there isn’t a definitive answer to how it can be done since there is a good deal of luck involved.
also, i should add that despite the quickening attacks for any/every character having both animations and names that make them seem as though they are elemental based, the damage enemies receive from quickenings is NON-ELEMENTAL, e.g. raw damage.
same goes for concurrences; regardless of which one you trigger, the dmg is straight and not elemental based. wanted to get this info added here since i know some people may assume certain characters (say, for example, Penelo’s hurricane type quickening) shouldn’t be used against elemental type enemies insofar as quickenings. but this is not the case; use whoever you want against whatever you want.
finally, with an even moderately leveled party (40-50 lvl range), if you can pull off Black Hole as a concurrence, it generally does a minimum of 60,000 damage. no wonder it’s hard as hell to get it to set off.
Most I've ever got was a generous 15. I felt like I should Luck out on 20s but I can't mist charge or shuffle AND select in time.
Also it can be tricky to substitute after 3. When everyone's red even if they're waiting to act it can take long seconds to switch. So annoying that there's a cool down for white names
Elixirs fill the mist charge and it fill over time as well
Thanks.
Geht DIch Nix An that's true for the original game. not in zodiac
Megaelixer easy best friend on floor 100 of the trials for that reason.
Highest I've gotten is 24, only done it once though.
Hmm, think I got 25 on my first go.
Even 16 is taunting me, never mind 20😓
momokol366 I got 19 and whiteout. I was so close to black hole :(
I think 20 or 21 is about my top number.
I went up to 32 on ps2 version.
In ff6 u had desperation attacks
What's a gorj and how do I fill it?
Back in the day I remember getting to 90 in a row
Useful in the beginning but kinda useless later on.
Seems like a lot of effort, RNG and time for a result that doesn't reflect the time put in
I know this is an older comment, but in a "turn based" game being able to do as much damage as possible in a single "turn" is critical. Being able to pull these off will help a lot in New Game Minus (No leveling up)
this battle feature is broken, i can easily recharge my mist gauge at the save point and head on go to boss then combo quickening that boss for an easy kill.
Ah, crap. I indiscriminately unlocked them all. Probably screwed myself over.
J.I.N. Shit me too I thought the more I unlock the more my character get stronger
In the original ff12 it didn't matter in the slightest. However now... Yea you kinda screw yourself over.
Me too :/
Yup, I lost out on the iga blade unlock cause of the damn quickening set up. Win some, lose some I guess.
This is still so confusing it makes me want to stop playing Final Fantasy XII
Or have 6 seitengrats and never use the quickening.
Rick Khemai this is not for scrubs like you
Sounds terribly dull and pointless. I sold my Seitengrat. Made the game boring
Also you only really need 3, 6 is so you don't have to switch weapons after. Really need to try the exploit sometime.
Gauge rhymes with cage... just sayin
Gawges
Gorge??? Gauge, like gay-age, blend it, gauge not gorge
Good video btw
all that talking without saying a goddamn thing
What a stupid Name 😅 in Germany it is called Mysth Techs
So many wrong information here!
Do you have to sit and watch this repetitive animation over and over again?
This is boring as hell. Square really screwed up with this game
