Thank you so so so so much for doing this! I would LOVE to see more vegan/vegetarian videos from you guys. The last time I was in Japan I wasn't a vegan, so it was easy to find food. But now that I'm vegan I really want to make sure I'm able to find some food to eat!
I think there were a couple times were you mixed up vegetarian and vegan! The majority of Vegetarians can eat dairy and eggs while vegans don’t eat any animals products at all but I love you guys !
It's nice to see a polite comment explaining this and my family enjoys their videos as well - they are thorough, fun, honest, humble, and the food is well described ( important to myself).
Actually it's not wrong to say that someone vegetarian will not eat eggs and or dairy, the word vegetarian has existed for far longer than "vegan". Technically vegetarian people would only eat a plant based diet. Ovolactovegetarians would also eat eggs and dairy.
Thanks for the consideration. I've heard that it's difficult to find vegan/vegetarian food in Japan, but I see that it's only a matter of knowing where to look ❤
I've been vegetarian for 2 years and am really wanting to go vegan. I appreciate this video so much! I always watch your videos either way! :D I heard there is a vegan ramen place and a sushi place with a ton of vegan options in Japan.
This was wonderful! Thank you so much for trying vegan foods at 7-11. I have vegetarian friends who visit Japan, and it will be very helpful to show them this video. Everything looked so delicious. Best wishes for a great weekend, and see you at the livestream! :-)
So happy you uploaded this. Last year in Japan I couldn’t always be sure what was vegetarian and what wasn’t. I’m returning in 34 days! So now I have some options.
There are actually a lot of beer vegan options in the market such as Bud Light, Budweiser, Carlsberg, etc. And I agree Shinichi, chestnuts taste like sweet potato to me.
Most beers are vegetarian and vegan friendly. Some breweries, however, use animal products like isinglass (dried swim bladders of fish) and gelatin (various animal parts, such as skin, bones, connective tissues...). Companies who use these are, afaik, not required to mention it. If in doubt, buy Reinheitsgebot (German Beer Purity Law) beer, as they only use water, barley, and hops, and taste way better than other beers.
I tried persimmons for the first time a few weeks ago. They were Fuyu persimmons from Kroger grocery store. I think mine weren't quite ripe enough. I was a little surprised that there was an earthy flavor along with the mild sweetness, but the more I chewed on it, the sweeter it got. I'll try them again when they are in season next year!
I'm not a vegetarian, but I am lactose intolerant and currently living in Japan so it can be hard to find deserts that I can actually eat. I did find an ice cream sandwich made with soy milk the other day at the Lawson's near my apartment which was really exciting lol
Unfortunately, there's only one kind of pill that's ever worked for me and as far as I know it's only available in the US and I'm not even from there :/ Its best to just avoid dairy than to play russian roulette with different kinds lactose pills again
Shinichi you said that the edamame packaging is pretty ingenious. Actually, I do believe that ALL Japanese packaging is pretty ingenious, I just love it!!😍.
I can't understand why you guys don't have more subs. I love this channel. I just found it on Thursday and have been binge watching since. You guys are awesome and I love your videos :) Arigatou gozaimasu
hi guys you two are so handsome an fun to watch I'm giving these vlogs to my daughter ,she vegan an has raised her kids the same , she will live you guys the way I do ,I'm from florida ,Disney area ,always watching your blogs ,have a wonderful holiday season ,an keep up the great vlogs 💕🎅🤶🎄🤔😳🙃aka indian
Love your comments and as a vegetarian I always take ume ongiri and cucumber rolls but it is good to think about other options. When I was in Japan I loved 7-11. Thank you for your videos.
I love Persimmon. My home garden have two different type of persimmons. I usually wait til fall to eat them unless the squirrel took them all. And I also eat dried persimmon too.
I hadn't even thought to ask for this kinda list, but this is very interesting. I'm a pescatarian (I can't digest red meat which lead to the whole choice to go pescatarian). I should look at the local mart and see if they have any of these items.
I miss ume onigiri...I don't know how many I ate in my trip to Tokyo, it was embarassing. Also I opted for cherry blossom flavored onigiri and once I tried natto onigiri(had to try infamous natto in some form, I found it not bad at all). I'm vegetarian(not vegan)and I eat dairy products, so I ended up mostly eating salads and onigiri, I had a couple of "bad" surprises finding bonito flakes on some vegetables and also in a bakery I accidentally bought one with ham or something. It wasn't the easiest thing finding vegetarian options in general, but konbini options I found were very good. Mochi with red bean paste was also super yummy :D
Omg you made me crave Japanese konbini food so hard. Especially the sekihan, sweet potato, the persimmon, these are like my top 3 favourite foods in Japan ! Oh and the azuki mochi .. can't wait untill I go to Japan in 20 days hehe Oh and I believe there are some smoothies from Kagome as well in most konbini 😊
I went directly across to 7/11 after watching this to get the sekihan onigiri and that cucumber/radish/seaweed thing. Both super yum! You guys have seriously made me confident in trying so many different things since I moved to Japan. I'm always okay with trying new things, but there SO MUCH to try here, and you give me some direction and I kind of know what I'm getting into when I pick these things up now. Haha! Thanks for making these videos!
i was at thailand last year, its such a huge difference at the dishes which are availeble at 7 eleven. Its mostly like an complete different store! so thx for this vid i was expecting 7 eleven japanese Products completly different...
Dear Satoshi, authentic German beer is always vegan. Because of the Reinheitsgebot (purity order), the only ingredients allowed are water, barley, hops and yeast. Greetings from Germany! ❤
this is so amazing!!! than you for posting this. my dream is to go to japan but i am vegan and these videos are SO helpful for those who wouldn't know where to start. subscribed, and i hope to see more like this!! thank you again
Awesome! Haven't really been watching you guys so much after I went vegan since most of the food you eat doesn't interest me anymore. I hope you do more of these to show what vegans can eat at Lawson and Family Mart as well!
Ben and I are going to Japan in less than a month. Ben will eat ANYTHING, but I like to eat vegan as much as possible. This really helped me! Thank you!
I'm half Fijian but that also means i can't always eat meat so basically outside of my cultural i'm vegen to everyone around me. But at home i can eat my own meat because i guess Fijian cooked they're own way lol. I'm still learning as to why we don't eat regular meat then everyone else. But i am planning to go to japan and i thought they love to be healthy because you know everyone is so skinny there so i'm surprised when i heard that they're most outing people go to is meat sections.
Love that I have found your channel - I am vegan and veganizing as many dishes as I can! Thank you so much for your brilliant channel!!! I miss Japan so much from when I used to visit there years ago and I must return and was worried as now I am a vegan but this video has been so helpful. 😍
Thank you! This was so useful. I always have to rely on my brother when shopping or dining out...but now i feel empowered to make my own konbini choices.
Thank you so much for posting this! I will use it to help me on my upcoming trip to Japan! I just hope I can try all those nigiri and read the labels 🙏
Good on you guys for making such an effort! I'm recently a vegetarian but last time I was in Japan I was still eating chicken. I ate a lot of the kombu onigiri but its good to know their are Bonito-free options aswell! :) love your work guys
Thank you so much for this video. I especially appreciate how thorough you were, checking the ingredients carefully. And how considerate you were for our feelings, wanting us to not be scared to visit. The food all looked delicious as well. ありがとうございました!
Thank you for doing this video! I am Vegan and apart from the places I have seen Sharla in Japan go to, it's nice to know that there are some affordable, healthy and delicious vegan foods so readily available. Also Persimmons are my favorite fruit!
Really appreciate this video! Can you guys please do a grocery store version? It would be especially helpful to have a list of vegetarian/vegan friendly proteins to look out for.
Thank you so much for this very helpful video! I'm pescatarian, but I try to eat vegan most of the time. I would love to try the cucumber and daikon pickles. And onigiri are always satisfying. I truly appreciate your efforts!
We love all of your videos and binge watch you often, so as vegans we were uber delighted with this one. How are the supermarkets there for meat and fish alternatives? Our local Chinese supermarket has many great options which we buy often. We'd love to see more like this. Love from England. 😀
I went Vegan seven months ago. So I really enjoy your videos about non Vegan stuff. I remember the good ole days. But, thank you for this video. Good to know I would have options if I came to Japan.
I love sekihan onigiri so much. Ate it nearly everyday while staying in Japan 😂 But I bought it mostly at 100 Yen Lawson, because this one is a little bit softer and not so salty. But maybe I just sticked to it because it was the first sekihan onigiri I ate. I'm also a fan of Japanese traditional sweets. Great Video!
Almost every beer is vegan already. I love that tofu! I had that often for breakfast with pickled vegetables because I'm not really in love with a sweet breakfast such as sugary cereal or Donuts. If I have sweets it's later in the day or in the evening. I love umeboshi.
I love that you've done this. I'll be studying in Japan for a year from Sept as a Vegan. Last time I was there I was pescatarian (ate fish and dairy, no meat) so it was easy but I think vegan will be a challenge!
Arigato Gozaimasu!!! Maraming maraming salamat!!!! I plan to visit Japan in 2019 and my main worry is the food because I am a vegetarian. I really appreciate this video you guys made. It will be a very big help as I roam the country and would need to find cheap eats or have no other option but to visit convenience stores for food. I look forward to your videos on vegetarian/vegan food in other convenience stores. I look forward to meeting you so I can personally thank you. :) Honto arigato gozaimasu!!!!!
Great video, shame we only saw it after we finished our Japan vacation. Japanese 7 Elevens has better food than most of the dept store food halls in Australia. Amazing...
Dears, vegetarians do normally eat eggs and cheese, use butter and milk and whipped cream. We don't eat anything that needs to be killed, to put it simply!! Vegans do not use eggs, animal-milk or butter or cheese made from animal-milk. Instead of animal-milk products, they eat products made from plants (vegetable products). So, a big difference! I have been a ovo-lacto vegetarian (yes, they are also different types of vegetarians) for 60 years and am now 63 years old. Love, Pinkie
@@TabiEats Woo! I go to Japan late August, I doubt you’d have it up by then, but all my fingers will be crossed. Am watching your travel phrases and restaurant phrases videos daily. I have actually decided to throw myself all in and learn Japanese, not just phrases. My hand hurts from writing Hiragana all day haha. Thanks for your vids, much appreciated!
Thank you, Thank you, Thank you... I was scared of visiting Japan considering the difficulty of getting food. But this will almost save my plans to visit there. You had mentioned about milk ingredients in food. Wondering what are they as I'm open to eating milk products and cakes or bread that have egg as ingredient in them and as long as egg taste does not dominate the bread or cake. Please make a video on that too... :)
I'm so happy that you guys made this video because I'm Pesco-Vegetarian!!!
Hi there.. Thanks so much for this one!! I am vegetarian, and coming to Japan in Sept... I am already marking things down on my Google maps.. Thanks!!! Leesa
Tofu can be a dessert, my grandma used to make a quick dessert where she would cut up slices of tofu and fry them up with some sugar sprinkled on them. Ive tried it once when i was little and it was pretty good.

Please continue making vegan-friendly videos! Thank you for not denigrating veganism while you film, too. You are appreciated! :)
We've had many requests to do a conbini video on food suitable for vegetarians. We hope you find this video helpful as well as entertaining. Cheers!
Do you think that you can do a gluten free food haul? I have no idea about the gluten free food in Japan (soy sauce has wheat)
You guys have a lot of Vegan/Vegetarian-friendly foods there in Japan. I am sure they would enjoy some yummy tofu and natto even xD
Great video! Just FYI, the food in this video is for vegans. Vegetarians DO eat eggs and dairy :)
TabiEats Please do another vegan edition! Maybe with another Konbini or supermarket?
This is very helpful thank you so much. I love watching your videos. They make me so excited to come to Japan ✌🏼✨
I think there were a couple times were you mixed up vegetarian and vegan! The majority of Vegetarians can eat dairy and eggs while vegans don’t eat any animals products at all but I love you guys !
+xSentrix so sorry about that. We’re just learning about the differences.:)

Vegetarians of india don't
eat eggs.
Thanks for the video! Knowing which onigiri are vegetarian is tricky when you can't read kanji!
Cakes with Faces it's pretty quick and easy to learn to remember basic kanji like different meats, milk and egg.
There are pretty nice kanji reading apps!
mattihp Which ones do you recommend? 😊
Use google translate on your phone. If you use the photo option on the app it will translate the Japanese to English in real time. 👍🏼
Cakes with Faces it's "vegan" watch a vegetarian video
Thanks for the consideration. I've heard that it's difficult to find vegan/vegetarian food in Japan, but I see that it's only a matter of knowing where to look ❤

There are actually a lot of beer vegan options in the market such as Bud Light, Budweiser, Carlsberg, etc. And I agree Shinichi, chestnuts taste like sweet potato to me.
barnivore [dot] com lists most of the vegan beer and wine!
Wouldn't beer usually be vegan?
Most beers are vegetarian and vegan friendly. Some breweries, however, use animal products like isinglass (dried swim bladders of fish) and gelatin (various animal parts, such as skin, bones, connective tissues...). Companies who use these are, afaik, not required to mention it.
