as a Japanese man living in Kochi, I truly recommend you to eat that sweet potato tempura. it tastes quite good and different from normal tempura and it's cheap. thanks John
My favorite ❤️ seems to be - mochi with azuki red bean paste - sushi especially the ginger one.. - 🍅 - fried sweet potato - boshypan .. hat 🍞. Finally I think I will end up loving these people especially the older generation. I found them very adorable.
It's because of you john that I want to visit Japan since 2016, your energy & your profession work are a great mix to motivate anyone to visit Japan. Also, I miss your late night/midnight stories as you live stream
I love this video! I have been studying Japanese language and culture for awhile and I'm also vegan so this was a very informative video to help me ask about ingredients when I go to Japan in the future!!
John, very informative!!!! I wish I could go to Japan ....., I want to eat all that you advertise....looks so good and interesting, yum, yum!!!!! Get some recipes.....
I plan to retire in the Shikoku area someday so it's nice to see a market in Kochi still thriving after so many years. Perhaps I'll put up a food stand as well so please visit.
From 11:55 to 13:26 it felt like i am in some wonderland by observing their work preparation and dedication to job in hand, completely rhythmic with soothing background music.. thanks Japan for letting foreigners like me to be part your culture and to amaze and keep us motivated towards something good each day!
I just love these videos, the elderly of Japan are so sweet and kind it melts my heart and I cannot wait to some day visit this beautiful country ❤️ thank you for sharing these experiences
Your content is always good. I’ve visited Japan a lot of times and planning to visit again, and your videos are feeding me with these ideas on what to do on my next visit. Thanks! Keep it up!
Really informative video and great camera work, I'm even more appreciative that is vegan friendly since as you said some places in Japan might be challenging in finding good vegan food. but I'm happy the awareness is rising and hopefully in the future plenty more vegan options will be available.
Joshua yeah I agree because I’ve actually had these tomatoes before. They’re good don’t get me wrong but i mean...not to just bite into, raw, on the street and then act like it’s something I’ve never tasted in my life before.
Joshua Actually the more I watch it the more I agree with your comment. She overreacts to everything she’s eating & it’s almost like she had to chew / bite in half speed.
We are homeschooling and LOVE this channel for learning so much about Japan. Do you have or will you have any videos on traditional Kimono and Yukata? It would be so fun!
Esteban Pena there’s amazing vegan food in Japan (in the main cities) but you generally need to go to vegan restaurants rather than expect options in normal restaurants. The Happy Cow app is brilliant.
@@simonjohnson4704 yeah, that's kinda my point though. I'm more interested in the countryside, and it seems only the bigger cities can accommodate. Vegans are an oddity in japan
Yep rural areas are much harder. Probably less so if you can speak the language. But worst case scenario in my experience is you buy pre-prepared veggies, tofu and rice from 7eleven (they’re EVERYWHERE all over japan).
I seriously love Kochi prefecture. You HAVE to go there during sakura season. John, the place you went to for the washi paper is very close to honestly the most beautiful momo/sakura blossoms in this country. Niyodogawa in the background, the valleys on the other. I was very lucky to be able to see that this year in full bloom. I hope you'll be able to show your audiences one day too! Also Kochi castle at night during sakura season is also extremely beautiful!
Thank you everyone! Which one was your favorite? Let me know in a comment and if you like Street Food adventure, click the LIKE button and let me know :) -John . -John

i'll take the sweet potato thank you hahaha... wow the tomato is so expensive there but looks so fresh. everything in japan looks good haha, our fave country :)
The more videos you produce the more money I start saving for Japan. Actually thinking about maybe residing there. Great videos and this makes me happy to be a subscriber!
These kind a thing warm me up, these day many people don't go out much even for shopping just because they can order it online doesn't mean you cannot go out and having fun.
@OnlyInJapan I like the Vegan Country Sushi without the dashi and the Hat Bread. The coverage of this old Kochi Market and its Vegan options was enlightening. I like the Kochi produce that you highlighted as well.
It was something different but the way life is in Kochi is very good! People have a good balance to everything and you can see it when you go. Will be back!
@@WaoryuONLYinJAPAN first of all, John, thank you so much for this delightful video. very informative with lots of rewatchable value. Second, however, this is probably not the vegan video most of your vegan fans we're hoping for. Wondering if you're going to take a more in-depth look at this topic of veganism in Japan. it would be really interesting to see what your channel specifically would do with this topic, as your take on potentially generic topics related to Japan always turns out to be very unique And fresh-feeling. Finally,.. Batter contains eggs? I am really embarrassed at how my lack of culinary knowledge often finds a home in RUclips comment sections.🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣😭😭😭😭😭🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
I thought Japan was not vegan friendly. This video changed my perception. Thanks a lot John, with every video you make, My perception of Japan 🇯🇵 keeps changing.
Oh my, now I am hungry! The thought of vegan Japanese food is like heaven. I remember finding an awesome yuba manju in Nikko! Vegan and delicious (and addictive!)
So THATS WHAT IT WAS! I remember going to get some sushi and I ordered a tray of random selections. I had no idea what the bamboo chute was. That explains the texture and new taste.
🤣🤣🤣🤣its John friendly AND matt friendly too!!!! Give the man some meat!!!!! Balance I say But another nice vid I look forward too John!!! 👍👍👍 I love custard too!!! 😍 Such a long standing market I love that!!
Wow, wish we had known about vegetarian or vegan sushi when we were in Japan. We spent 30 days there and struggled to find things to eat, it was pizza and pasta for the most part. Great video, very informative. :)
You are so funny :) I like your sense of humor. I am actually vegan, so this is very exicting for me whenever I get to move to Japan. I had heard it was hard to be vegan there even with all the wonderful foods they have. I enjoyed hearing/seeing some of the options at that particular location. If you get a chance, I would love to see more vegan options in Japan :)
Xero the Slayer if you study the industries (especially dairy aka cow breast milk) you’ll be angry. I went vegan 5 years ago and haven’t looked back. Best thing I’ve ever done for my taste buds too!
When John says: "I always wanted to eat my hat" Wait a minute! I remember that line from the Lucky Strike Commercial back in the 50's or 60's that says: "Show me the filter cigarette that really delivers taste AND I'LL EAT MY HAT!"
Thanks for that interesting video! I recently have been going vegan and this got my attention. I really still would love to try that custard hat though 😜👍👒

Me too.
The become a vegan, all that "food" tastes just like a hat.

"Not vegan friendly. It's John friendly" - John Daub, 2019.
Savage! 😂 Just in front of her face aswell.
This should be on a shirt or a hoodie. I’d wear it
Vegan and Vegetarian stuff in Japan looks better than most Vegan and Vegetarian stuff where I live oOo
Let's look for something for vegans like these TOMATOES 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Iced tomatoes. There is (not really) a difference! 😂🍅
I love this video! I have been studying Japanese language and culture for awhile and I'm also vegan so this was a very informative video to help me ask about ingredients when I go to Japan in the future!!

Another magnificent video by the one and only John. Great job! I enjoyed watching this and learning more about the vegan food in Japan. 🙏🏾✨
I plan to retire in the Shikoku area someday so it's nice to see a market in Kochi still thriving after so many years. Perhaps I'll put up a food stand as well so please visit.
Good food, extremely clean streets and sidewalks with friendly people. This Sunday market has my vote. Thank you ❤️.
You should be a voice actor! Your voice is so clear!
Never stop making videos. I love them. One of the best channels in RUclips! ❤️
Ur channel just increased my love fr Japan

The work life balance is not good. Everything looks perfect but it is not.
TheOutsidersPost being a salaryman here since 4 years I totally agree with you, however dedication is un parallel.
Sure is, but sadly in the more metropolitan areas. The strive to achieve perfection leads to so many suicides.
Your food videos always make me hungry. Everything looks really appetizing.
I live in Kochi. Thank you so much for introducing Kochi respectfully!

I loved this one not just the food but the people, gave off a great happy feeling. thank you from the UK
Great to see the channel grow, you must be so proud of your hard work paying off. Thanks for sharing your life in Japan with us. 👍👍
In a few years I want to go to Japan and take in some of their culture. Definitely adding this to a place to visit on the list thanks to your video
I wish when I travel to Japan, especially in Kochi, Osaka etc I would prefer to go with John
The camera work is awesome😊
Such lovely, hard working old people.
Really informative video and great camera work, I'm even more appreciative that is vegan friendly since as you said some places in Japan might be challenging in finding good vegan food. but I'm happy the awareness is rising and hopefully in the future plenty more vegan options will be available.
I have watched almost all of your videos. And then I decided to have my first abroad trip to Osaka in October. thank you John
That’s the most vegan thing I’ve seen -when she bit into tomato 😭😂
It's a tomato. I have had absolutely insane heirloom tomatoes, and they still are just tomatoes. Come on now, this reaction is so ridiculous.
She overreacts to everything she’s eating & it’s almost like she had to chew / bite in half speed.
she has lived in japan for 10 years writing vegan tour guides, Im pretty sure she doesnt have to fake her reaction to the food she eats
Yes, enjoying vegetables is vegan. And enjoying dead animals isn't. :-/
Another great video as always! I live vicariously through you.
Ahh a nice cup of green tea in the morning and some good content from John
Love this video John, was waiting for it! Shikoku is indeed an awesome place to visit.
Thanks for the video~ (Love this btw 3:15)
loved this video jon! especially when you partner with japanese locals , it just brings us more views from locals eyes too.
We are homeschooling and LOVE this channel for learning so much about Japan. Do you have or will you have any videos on traditional Kimono and Yukata? It would be so fun!
Gonna watch this when I get home, but this is gonna be a treat! I'm vegan, and I'm told vegan food is a rarity in Japan unlike America. Thanks john!!

I agree, her Japanese is is very good.
Thank you so much for a new episode that was quite interesting!
Love your works. Keep up the good job. I never got sick of watching.
Very awesome to have a vegan guest give pointers! Im vegetarians so the tempura sweet potatoes looked yummy!
Such a delight to see so many vegan options, it usually seems pretty though.
Another excellent video John. I am very intrigued by the vegan items you have discovered in this video. Very impressed.
i'll take the sweet potato thank you hahaha... wow the tomato is so expensive there but looks so fresh. everything in japan looks good haha, our fave country :)
Michigan has massive farms and our produce is just as good if not better. Plus less expensive.
My man you just trolled the heck outta her offering the sweet potato Tenpura 🤣
Just curious- why is the tempura not vegan? Is it the batter, or the oil they fry it in?
i had to eat my supper to watch this episode. only way to surive one of john's food shows. all in all heartwarming good story episode
Japan : we made potato tempura
Us : hold my beer
*makes deep fried oreo
First time watching. luv it... I subscribed right away

Hello John, 'GO AWAY FROM TOKYO ' is my motto for Only In Japan episodes! I just love the other side of Japan! Wishes from India!
You're a really beneficial web video; could not make it without ya!
The music used when you eat your hat, makes me fell like I've had 8 litres of beer in Southern Germany
people said: sad that vegan people can't eat sushi, it really delicious,
Japanese say: hold my beer. :v
Good guiding beautiful vudeo ,nice
When local old man says it's the best, it's definitely the best you shouldn't miss out.
He knows what he’s talking about :) I loved that he sneaked that conversation in there at the end!!
What drives people to be vegan?! I could never live without the taste of meat and honey and eggs and fish.
