Hey Everyone! It's been a hot minute since I released a video. Has anything interesting happened while I was gone? I've actually been working on a documentary about Japanese identity called "Being Japanese", so that's why the absence on my part. The good news is that I'm now doing the major part of that edit. The documentary won't be released for a while since I have an manga artist working on illustrations, but I'm now back to being able to put the majority of my focus on creating videos here on RUclips. I have a whole bunch of stuff lined up. I hope you enjoy this one. I was able to get out of the city and explore some beautiful nature and culture around Shikoku. I was supposed to take my mother and father here on their planned trip to Japan, but you know, corona, so they never made it. So it was mostly me with a little bit of my son Shin and my wife on this trip.
@@jazmine4746 I actually had to take a bit of a break in the summer (doctor's orders), but I'm doing really well right now. I was mostly away because of working on the documentary though. So no need to worry 😀
Man your son really makes me realize how long I've been subscribed to this channel. I remember when he was a wee lad and your daughter looked younger than he does now. Time always seems to escape me
Wow. I will never stop being blown-away and impressed by your videos. You have an incredible eye for filming and editing. It always puts a big smile on my face to see your adventures, especially when you share them with your family. I am greatly looking forward to your documentary, as well as one day visiting Japan myself. I wonder, what kind of drone do you use?
I'm not sure what is growing up faster, your children or your Japanese. Also, I can't believe you were eating in a restaurant without a shirt. Come on Greg! All joking aside, I'm glad to see everyone is doing well :)
My favorite part was the beginning seeing Shin! It made me smile seeing how big he’s gotten. :D As your kids have grown older we don’t get to see them often anymore so it was nice to see Shin once again!
Like your vids, especially how it's just a warm, at home feel. It's a big contrast compared to other channels who's usually "wow! This is Japan!". Your videos are more like, "this is what I did last week, it was fun!"
Vlogs like this, of such high quality and gorgeous cinematography, are keeping me sane during lockdown. God do I miss getting lost in a foreign country 😭
It sounds awesome, but I must ask an economic question--does the owner get a subsidy or housing allowance from the local govt? Even restaurants in cities barely eke out profits. I wish I could do something I love without worrying about being foreclosed or where my next meal is coming from...
Your videos are always worth the wait. Man the footage, the vistas, to the choice of music and commentary. Top quality and improving with each video released so awesome. Awesome job.
I’m an architect practicing in Minnesota (USA). Kengo Kuma is one of the best architects practicing in Japan today, somehow designing modern buildings that are still uniquely “Japanese”. Your video makes me want to visit the city in Shikoku that you feature!
Wow, so much amazing scenery in this I don’t even know where to start commenting. Shikoku is just gorgeous. (And Greg’s camera lenses keep getting better!)
I have so many friends in Shikoku. Students from Kochi, Kagawa, and Ehime University visited my city in Indonesia and had homestay for 3 weeks. Ah good memories. I hope I can visit them back in the future
Fascinating documentaries emphasizing how beautiful Japan really is. What I like most about your videos if how you portray the craftsmanship of Japanese that has been around centuries of how they really talented are.
Thank you so much Greg! The production quality is absolutely amazing and thank you soo incredibly much for sharing the magic of the island that is Shikoku! I can't wait to go and see it for myself! Thank you yet again, take care and stay safe🙇♂️🙏
I miss your videos with your children. When I finally make it to Japan I plan to bring my kids (currently 13 & 8) with me. I really appreciate seeing how kids live and act in Japan.
Kids are getting so big. Keep up the great work Dad. Thanks for your help. As soon as Japan reopens, we will have tours going out to this area of Japan, Shikoku and Shimanami Kaido bike tours.
Super high quality video, love it. Interesting travel spots, calm and witty narrative, very good camera and post-production work...and of course...cats! That cat-cafe by the ocean is a thing of beauty.
The autumns colors are amazing. I got to visit Osaka/Kyoto area in late November a few years back. So beautiful, and the weather was perfect - just a little bit cool so you can walk all day and not get too sweaty. Really enjoyed this video!
Lovely video! I was thinking about you and your family the other day. Glad you are all well. I can not believe how time has flown and your kids are so big now. I still remember how small they were when I first started watching your channel.
My favorite part of this video is the kinship between father & son shown at 1:36-2:13 & 2:34-2:40 I can see Shin has grown so much. It's always wonderful to see You and Shin together. You both are a reflection of each other. 😀
I am truly grateful for the tour of the different Islands as I always wanted to experience the rural areas that Japan has to offer. The cat cafe has the best seaside view and the library was what caught my attention the most.
Just as others have said, your kids growing up is a crazy indicator how long I’ve been subbed. You were one of the first of many English speaking, Japanese RUclipsrs that helped me plan my trip back in the day. I can’t wait till I get to visit again! Your videos are improving in quality too! Gorgeous video!
I think this might be one of the BEST videos you have EVER produced. I absolutely love the landscape, the wooden buildings, the architecture, nature, it's amazing. good job!
Well worth the wait. Sometimes I wish the videos were more frequent, but then I look at the sheer quality of one upload and stop complaining immediately
Amazing architecture in that town, and of course, Japan's beautiful natural scenery. Camera work and editing are stellar in this one, Greg. Thanks for your hard work.
Fantastic video, I never knew about many of these Shikoku gems. The kominka and konpira-san looked particularly amazing. Can't wait to travel back to Japan!
Awesome video. I can't believe how big your kids are now. Glad you're still putting out videos. I really enjoyed the Philippines videos you made a while back. Those were awesome and I showed them to my Filipino friends.
i spent my three years of high school in Ehime, one of shikoku's prefectures. I loved it then and this video makes me want to go back, especially now that i have a drivers license
That would have been a totally different experience. I was kind of bummed that we got there so late in the day, since the light was falling fast. But it turned out to be a blessing in disguise as we could play around with no one else there!
Oh the wonders you wander thru. What an amazing artist of film you are~ I dream of my daughter ever seeing such sights with me. I've never been beyond my US, except Toronto & various Mexican towns I could afford to pay the policia off to visit! Goodness you really are blessed! Live it all up for the poor mums who just can't afford a trip to Disney for their own child.
I really really enjoyed this video! The opening scenes with your son, the hiking around beautiful places and the sweetest cats ever who melted my heart. Thank you for the time and effort you put into filming and organizing this video :D
Wow Greg..Congrats to this beautiful nature which you show cases, breathtaking creatures of the Universe.Your editing is tremendously magnificent.Good job though.👍

So true.
I've been watching your channel for years now. Your family is dearto my heart❤️ Thanks for great content!
I was so surprised to see him as a young near-teenager!! Makes me feel old realizing I haven't even had my own kids yet, and I'm 30.
