      Here it is recycled, the plastic bags it is put in goes into the プラ PURA separation (light plastics, styrofoam and other bags goes in that), ペット PETTO is for normal hard plastics like drink containers. So it helps keep things clean and fresh. If thy was just tossing it out in the normal trash, it would be bad.

    • @OngoingDiscovery
      @OngoingDiscovery 5 лет назад +7

      @@Its-Kat_ unfotrantely plastic can't be recycled in the same way as something like glass. Everytime its recycled it degrades, so a plastic package can't be recycled into a new plastic package. Rather its shreds are used in car tires or clothing fibres which become those pesky 'microplastics' that end up in the ocean :( . Even if its being aggressively recycled, it would still be much better if they just used the packaging that nature provided (peels, skins, shells). Do small local greengrocers also use this much plastic by the way?

    I remember it snowing in Tokyo earlier this year - it was pretty cool! Thanks for the vegan shopping tips - it is a bit of a challenge being vegan here. The sheer amount of plastic packaging and plastic bags drives me crazy - another useful phrase if you want to refuse something is “dai jo bu desu”. Literary it means “it’s ok”, and if you wave your hand and say it when they pick up a plastic bag, they get the message that “it’s ok, not needed”.

      I think people are so hardline on the issue that people often forget they don't HAVE to commit to one way of eating or another. I was vegetarian for years, then went back to eating meat, but I find recently, when cooking for myself, I typically skip meat. You are right, it is nice to be able to include vegan or vegetarian options.

    I just wanna say that to all that are worried about the amount of plastic being used in japan, while yes it is frustrating to see the copious amount of it used unnecessarily, Japan has a really incredible recycling/ garbage system.. probably one of the best I’ve seen! Please look into it if your really concerned.. I stayed in Japan for awhile and had to sort through my trash because so many things are recyclable there and certain parts of packaging (like labels or stickers) need to be removed and recycled separately!

    • @justjess882
      @justjess882  6 лет назад

      Sophia Ronen yep It’s so great with the recycling system here! :)

    • @Mango-nf2wn
      @Mango-nf2wn 4 года назад

      That's cool, but even if it's one of the most efficient recycling systems world wide... it's still plastic; massive amounts of non-biodegradable unnecessary plastic that could be easily avoided and that will have the same end no matter how many times it's recycled
