Even easier if one eliminates all of the unnecessary steps you take. Informative none-the-less.
I did mine but I did not remove the belt...Thanks for mentioning about the bolts Torque, that's what I am looking for.
Thanks a lot very easy instructions on how to do this!!!
Don't even bother with plastic housings anymore. There are aluminum replacements that are way better. Got one on my supercharged Explorer.
You should have shown the surface where it mounts, must be very clean to make a tight seal, using a brass wire brush with some brake cleaner works well.
I just did this project yesterday. I would recommend changing the small elbow hose from the water pump to the housing as I did. It was a six dollar hose and that hose ever bursts you have to remove the housing to change it so why not replace it while you have it apart. Just my two cents good video though
Excellent video, thanks. Did you now what have with my ford explorer 2008 xlt the power steering is strong when I turn on the air conditioner? Thank you
Great video!
No need to add silicone. There’s a rubber gasket associated w the housing. Be careful when removing the housing. Those little tabs can break off and fall inside the engine. My housing (Dorman) came with a new gasket. Both ports were open but also came with a plug.
Good advice on removing the belt and pulley. Thanks!!
Hey man how do you know if it's the housing or just needs new gasket on thermostat? Had mine changed few years ago cost 500 something !! Now it seem water is on top some around small hose?? And not sure!?
do you need to use gasket sealer where the housing connects to the moter.
Both holes where the sensor goes in are open. Still trying to figure out how to do this.
May want to place a small amount of RTV on the bolt threads just because you can, will help.
I wish I had a 2008 Explorer. Mine is a 2001 and the housing unit is a bear to get to and to get out.
Hey l have a leak on the lower part of the housing and was wondering if the bottom has a gasket seal, and also, if I purchase the housing online, does it normally come with the thermostat in it? I just have to transfer over the sensor, right?
That is a good question l have to put silicon between housing and block
Is there a need for sealant or even a gasket on the base of the housing that mounts on the engine?
I added sealant on mine because it has small uneven surface but be sure to clean the contacts between housing and the engine. It is not the housing that leak, it is the rubber gasket that is in contact with the engine.
@@crisantojr.robles4357 thanks. I did this awhile back, I think I did add sealant.
Hi there. Do you need to use gasket silicon sealer where the housing connects to the motor. I notice there wasn't any. Reason is its leaking now.
No you do not, there is an o-ring rubber gasket for that.
Thanks for the tip. Awesome vid. FYI, I blew this housing twice because of over heating because I never burp the lines causing pressure build up.
I have the same car with engine code P0128 (Coolant Thermostat (Coolant Temperature Below Thermostat Regulating Temperature)). Seems the engine temperature is too low and the gauge is always close to "C". The coolant level is OK and I didn't see any leak. Can I just replace the thermostat instead of entire hosing kit? Also can I use a pinch pliers to the hose to avoid coolant flush? If only replacing the thermostat, I guess I don't need to remove the serpentine belt? Thanks.
+Will Smith Having the same problem in my 07 with the 4.0L. Heat will only work when driving at highway speed. Won't heat at all at idle. Temp gauge reads low. The temp gauge will also spike for no reason. It has to be the thrermostat.
+CircusHerse Exactly. Mine is 2008 4.0L. I have changed the thermostat and everything works fine now. The temp gauge is back to normal. To save some money, I changed the thermostat only instead of the entire kit.
+Will Smith thanks for the tip!
Your problem is totally different from my previous one. I am not sure how to solve.
Mine just over heated today 07 explorer 4.0
me too
I REPLACED THERMOSTAT HOUSING NOW I HAVE THROTTLE ACTUATOR ,THROTTLE POSITION ,ECM CODES CAR IN LIMP MODE???? IVE CLEARED CODES DID RELEARN PROCEDURE 2WICE . CAR STIIL HAS SAME CODES AND LIMP MODE?? HELP
I know it's 6 months but did you end up changing the throttle position sensor?
That's what I had to do.
The hardest part of assembling the whole thermostat for me was putting the pin back in the sensor. no one seems to explain how to do that on RUclips
I had the same problem.
@@armandoolmos6683 just push it straight...
Water should be de-ionized or distilled..
1 statement and 2 questions
1.Mine is leaking around the sensor.
1. Should the sensor spin if not what could that mean?
2. Since it seems to be pretty easy to change would it hurt just changing the entire housing? Thanks
Some people replace the whole housing just to be safe. They say it is better to change the sensor then to try and find a o-ring to fit.
I had the same issue you can find on Autosone, the housing kit with 2 sensors, a thermostat and the housing for twice of the price of one sensor, anyway you should replace the hoysing to fix the leak
well before changed I applied a quick fix with instant glue and silicon
@@necrodrucifver Is it any good though? I've always been told that it is best to get OEM parts.
