That's... cooking, Barry.
Haha 😁😂😂
Not really though. I have never stepped in to my kitchen not knowing what ingredients I’ve got and being on a time limit to make something out of thin air.

This was actually a fantastic episode, and actually represents a lot about the channel.

Mike: heritage carrots in butter
Jamie in the back: ‘heritage carrots!’ 😫
hahahahaha
Even after that revelation, in the last challenge he said rainbow carrots lol
Lmaoooooo, i didn't notice it the first time
@@alli1878 They're commonly referred to as rainbow carrots on the Gregg Wallace side of the line. Heritage for poncy restaurants where they dress everything up with words even though you don't get to choose what you eat, you have to have a tasting menu.
I felt his pain so much. You could see him still struggling for the word and then Mike just swooped in.
I feel like Mike is constantly the underdog, and constantly exceeds in things he doesn't expect. I also take the most recipe ideas from his brain. Well done.
He seems to work really hard on his dishes. It's such a bummer that he isn't acknowledged more. And Ben is a bully, there I said it! He comes across as insufferable sometimes. 😑
@@SL-yt7qq I don’t think he’s mean. I think he knows Mike can do better than he does here. He goes outside the box. I expected him to get a badge for creativity. But he doesn’t have as much of the bIind confidence that Jamie and Barry do. Much of Which is excessive to say the Ieast. (Tho they have ALL gotten better) But he second guesses himself more. You can see it in the Pass It Ons. He LoW baIis himself constantly When scoring. Ben is just a straight forward CIassic.chef. I think if James Were here Mike WOULD have more badges. James just recognizes creative effort more. I don’t think he’s doing it to be mean it’s just his Personal Style
@@boop6169 I can agree with difference of appreciation from Jamesand Ben. I guess it's just frustrating seeing what Mike has made usually looks amazing and his ideas (seem to me) more thoughtful than the other 2 norms dishes. I think maybe bully was too strong a word, I hadn't had my caffeine. Lol
@@SL-yt7qq no I get it Lol
I Was kinda irritated too cz I honestly Preferred his dishes most of the time. But I get Why Ebbers may Wanna not Lean that Way
@@SL-yt7qq I think Mike and James line up more in tastes and style. Ben is more classical, traditional. James is more modern, gastro. Ben can appreciate that, but he’s very technique and skill driven. I think it’s also a bit personality as well - like in ultimate battles when you’d see Ben and James hovering, James is generally the one who steps in and says, “no, start again” or like when he comforted Jamie after his lava cake absolutely failed. Ben has high expectations. James is just expecting them to not be perfect. But both want to see them all succeed.
Serious shout out to the camera crew for catching Jamie’s ‘heritage’ epiphany 😂
Oh God, Mike reading out his menu is like me doing any public speaking ever
He should have sang his menu. That would have been fun
Yaaaa, I got flashbacks of doing school presentations
Especially the way he was holding his note😄
To me Mikes menu item sounded like he was targeting children's menu.,

Creativity in the kitchen is the most important skill to have. This is how we have deep fried Mars Bars.
Oh my God chefpk, love the food wars recreations and reactions. Keep up the good work
There is sucha thing as too far.
Or a “Jelly Filled donut”
Heh, actually they originated from chip shops allowing customers to bring in items and get them deep fried. I can only imagine what monstrosities were created that didn't become as famous as the deep fried mars bar.
Deep fried mars bars is creativity at the fair lol
Mike had me in stitches with his casual "I don't do badges". So great to see that he nailed it this episode!
Jamie, in the background when Mike says “Heritage Carrots”: 💡
Was looking for that comment xD
Great work from the camera team capturing that moment
And yet he continues to say rainbow carrots
I came looking for somebody to say this 🤣

yesss I saw that too :D
Creativity Badge: Redeem This Mistake badge.
In front of the boys will be a failed dish, something the dish was trying to be. Exp: A salty piece of chicken breast with some sides that are not seasoned well. It is up to them to try and fix the dish and turn it from a failure of a dish into something that is not only edible but very delicious. Extra points for minimizing waste to help Ben decide if they deserve the badge. Exp: If the boys leave out the salty chicken and just serve up a salad, then they fail because they are wasting food.
This is a great idea!
Ooo, Sora! Yes, yes, yes, Yes!
Sounds like a good idea
yes!!!!
Sounds like Pass It On but solo 😂
Ben’s poker face when Barry looked for help with the duck fat was ON POINT
Jamie's staff food was the most realistic considering its usually mass produced with limited time think they should have been tasked with at least 10 portions
Seriously, as a professional chef I cannot agree more. Jamie’s is quick, fast, feeds a lot of people and keep them going. It also goes fast to eat so people can shovel it in fast if it’s a stressful day as can easily happen in the restaurant field
I think the setup didnt quite match the challenge; which was more like a mystery box.
This is exactly what I thought. Nice mike, but try making that for 10+ people on a regular basis in a pinch. Plus it is hard to imagine having so much leftover expensive meat.
From what I've seen, when judging competitions, chefs tend to value innovation over practicality or even over somewhat superior performance of more basic cooking skills.
It was a good family meal, but the task was to be creative and his was the most predictable. Fair judgement.
When Mike won the badge for the left over creativity challenge.... I was literally jumping in joy ❤🤩✨
Congratulations Mike
he looked like he was about to burst with anticipation when Ben cut off mid-sentence. lol.
(also, great thing Ben didn't take away points for him dropping off one of his ramen buns on the floor. haha.)
Totally agreed, that made me so happy!!! It really did look like an incredible dish, well done Mike!
Sorry... but I think only Mike deserved the creativity badge. Congrats Mike !!!
Yes! I was so happy
Anyone else want to see the boys wear scout esc outfits with their badges sewn on?!
Let them earn sorted food chef’s jackets if they get enough badges.
@@robertstewart5351 I see a sous-chef ceremony on the horizon 😂
Badges? We don't need no stinkin' badges.
@@MegaFortinbras yes, we do!
I'm imagine Girl Scout-style sashes displaying their badges.
You should do an "identification" badge, have the boys try to identify ingredients that are commonly mistaken for another.
Every time I've had parley roots (Petroselinum crispum subsp. tuberosum), I've misidentified them as parsnip. They look the same, taste the same, except the parsley roots are more intense.
"I don't do badges Jamie" awwww Mike
Jamie’s face of realization when Mike says “heritage carrots” 🤣
Haha, it's GOLD.
I was thinking vintage - I was only a few letters out ! XD

A much better version!
Oh Mike’s comment “You know I don’t do badges “ broke my heart ❤️ he needs to get some
The idea of a chef cooking for and serving his team before a dinner rush makes me happier then it should

Cleanliness and efficiency in the kitchen, but the kicker is you go back through the challenges and judge them on that, so their natural level of performance in these areas
I am binge watching all of Sorted episodes and realise the variety of characters in this group is what makes it so entertaining. Mike’s endearing humility, Barry an artistic rogue, Jamie just super competitive on winning badges. Ben and now Kush ground them like a glue with very helpful and hilarious but kind educators’ demeanour. What a fabulous friendship group and a fun one for us to enjoy ❤
The customer is always right badge. Take the piss out of them and see who can defuse a situation best

@@adde9506 so do i, i wish they bring it back.
This is, without exaggeration, my favorite of your videos to date. I especially loved the leftovers challenge just letting the guys flex their skills without all the gimmicks of other video types was a very nice treat.
Ideas: 1. Best tool for the job (what utensil/tool would get the job done most efficiently)
2. Speed challenge of basic recipes (e.g 2 egg omelet)
3. Knowing the ratios of things like cake batter, pastry etc
4. Mass plating, 5+ dishes that have to look the same
5. Naming what herbs so best with what, classically and twists?
6. Creating a dish from scratch, then writing a basic recipe that others can understand enough to get the same result.
7. Creative problem solving, what to do when a sauce splits, or you don't have enough of something
8. eggs, one of every kind. soft boiled, poached, scrambled etc.
9. Name when foods are in season.
10. One pan challenge.
Can we maybe see a kitchen safety badge? Over the years, I've seen some positively terrifying moments from the trio that left me wondering how the hell anyone thought it was a good idea to let them in a kitchen together. They have all improved lately, but it might be interesting to see if they can spot hazards and behave appropriately.
It will be the first episode where not a single hob gets left on. +1
This would be a very important one. Also, you'd get to set stuff on fire and have them extinguish it properly. Fire marshal on standby always look great 😉
The "mise en place" badge?
@ As a firefighter, I'm going to straight up say no to this one. Not that it isn't a good idea for a badge, but because it's asking for trouble. Maybe as a bonus badge that they can earn if there is a spontaneous fire.
@@adde9506 I agree. If you announce it as a badge up front, it'll be on their minds and people can make mistake. But on another challenge, maybe one of the more complex ones, make it a hidden 3rd badge? After the first two badges are awarded, announce that the 3rd badge was this.
Barry: "That is a beautiful quenelle straight away!"
Ben: *Doubt*
The menu creation descriptive challenge is such a good one! Really tough challenge. As Ben said, it does forces the normals to think about what they’re eating and be creative yet direct with the language used
I do not think, having left out NUTS, that Barry should have gotten a badge for his description in the second challenge.
Right? That should have been an immediate disqualification. You do that on a real menu and your restaurant kills someone.
Your allergy is your problem. Just ask you whiny baby.
@@dwightlewis4316 the Internet never fails to serve the most rancid takes I've ever heard
@@thetranscestor9296 I know right! There are literally thousands of allergies out there- acting like it is the restaurant or servers liability for not mentioning every single one of them is insane. My nephew has some very severe allergies and his parents are absolutely responsible about asking about them at restaurants. Imagine blaming a poor waiter for not mentioning soy because you, the person with the allergy, never asked. We live in a society that just wants to blame others.
@@dwightlewis4316 you misunderstand, I'm disagreeing with you. If someone describes a dish to you and doesn't mention nuts, you would have no reason to ask if it contains them. Even aside from the allergy debate, Barry was told to describe the dish and left out a very prominent and visible component, thus he shouldn't have received the badge.
as someone who has worked in professional kitchens for 14 years, Jaime's dish is the only realistic dish that would be served for family/staff meal.
You're probably not wrong... Mike's may not be hugely practical to cook for a dozen chefs... But still... Massively creative!
It was a creativity challenge, not a cooking for a crew challenge
“The other chefs will be thanking you for weeks” yeah, via text or down at the pub once the boss fires you for not using the leftovers and instead cooking duck that wasn’t about to go off.
Jamie's crew meal would be the one you would most likely actually see, because of how long the others would take mass produce.
Agreed. Barry and Mike's crew meals struck me as really really bougie.
@@theblackantonio Barry's would't be THAT hard to do in bigger quantity, Mike's would probably have to be assembled by the crew themselves, but it's so out of the box they probably wouldn't mind.
But yeah, Jamie already made a meal for like 6 people in 30 mins, while the others made 1 portion.
Not to mention Jamie's is the one best at having other leftovers thrown in.
Unwrapping fresh blocks of brie and giving such a large portion of it for each dish feels a bit contrary to their mission brief.
Pre work meal, that's a heavy dish. Orzo works but looks awful. That duck sandwich would be great
Jamie in the back painfully mouthing “heritage”
I'm not surprised Jay is coming out on top so often. He's the one who I think has definitely worked hardest to improve from the early days, or at least thats how it seems.
Mike reading his description sounds like me nervously presenting in front of every class I ever had in school. So many "ums" 😆
My favourite part is absolutely 09:53 where Mike describes heritage carrots and behind his shoulder, Jamie just rolls his eyes like a teen who realised he got an answer wrong after an exam - and mouths silently... “Ohhh... herrrr-iiii-tage carrots...”
Big props to Mike for coming up with that awesome ramen burger! I'd be willing to bet that if you threw another 50 people in there to come up with a dish from those ingredients, none would come up with something like that!
Jamie’s “It’s nice to keep diners guessing” had me rolling. 🤣
Mike’s food description has high school student presentation energy
Yet if I was sitting in a restaurant I would prefer it over the others'. It seems more genuine. With the other two, I would feel like they're overselling it using pretentious words. And that would make me suspicious lol
@@crataegon7677 Worse than the pretentious words is the "perfectly cooked" frequency - combining chefs' arrogance with the thought it leaves in diners' minds "So everything else was done hapdash and with fuck-all care?" (At least they didn't say it was "cooked with love")
@@crataegon7677 I honestly just gloss over the adjectives, and just look at the ingredients. I actually prefer restaurants that simply list ingredient or main components in their menus. Makes my job easier.
"what if bake off was more stressful bc you were more invested in the contestants progress and achievements because you've been watching them for years already?" question answered, it's this series and it's bad for my blood pressure ❤
Having a "recreate this dish without seeing it" challenge might be a fun trainwreck!
I'm starting to get a bit concerned about James' absence. Hope he's alright.
I think they mentioned that he was working from home due to some personal things. But yeah hope everything's good☺
I -think- it was mentioned somewhere that he's had a bereavement. Obviously not our business but do wish them the best
Yeah I hope he’s doing okay. Miss having him in videos
I'm sure if they thought it was our business they would let us know.
The whole Sorted vibe is re a genuine connection between the guys & their community. But we’re all more like casual acquaintances in the same office or community - we might recognise their faces and we might all share the same values & goals, but don’t necessarily know each other personally. And that’s ok. Im guessing the Sorted team all knows any questions/comments, like Jeska’s, aren’t intruding at all, but are out of concern and because we all care and miss him. Xx
Jamie's face when he realizes what Rainbow carrots are realy called lol.
Ben’s cut to camera looks are priceless, especially every time the boys identified a food item incorrectly. 😂
Also-yay Mike got his first badge and we’re all so proud! 🙌🏼
As a Scout Mom, I'm LOVING these challenges!! Is there a budget meal badge? I love you're guys budget meals.
You should do a challenge where you have five minutes to taste a meal then create it blind without knowing anything about it
Jamie saying “you must keep the diners guessing” was hilarious 😂
It looks like there needs to be an ingredient taste test/identification challenge based on the first two challenges LOL
100% 😂
A blindfolded taste test like they do on Masterchef Australia would be good to really test their palate
While I'm unapologetically cheering for Mike, I have to say I'm impressed with how Jamie is doing so far! He really surprised me with the plating and use of techniques in that mac'n'cheese. Who could've expected that Jamie would even think of making a pickle! 😁
I don't I have ever been as happy for anyone as I was for Mike winning that creativity badge!
I'm really loving this new contest!
We're glad you're enjoying it! What badge do you think you would nail?
@@SortedFood I would like to say vocabulary. I am a content writer 😅
@@SortedFood I would say endurance, being a chef is also about being effective even after hours of hard work. I would say a challenge can be to make a simple dish that they would have time to learn before and then doing it like 5 times from scratch and make it exactly the same each time with the same presentation.
@@shireenfaisal4950 then that means you would have done well in their second challenge!
I couldn't agree more. Whoever came up with this idea for a series should get their own badge
If anything, this chanel has taught me how much of a difference there is between chefs and regular people. Having such a clear contrast between the nomrals, who are obviously very good at cooking, and actual chefs shows all the skills that any normal person simply doesn't have.
100%
I almost wish they had one of the chef’s also competing for “reference” haha
They do, but sometimes the chef skills show me why I don't always enjoy eating out - I've been cooking for over 50 years, my mother for over 70, and, frankly, we don't always need the faff! Good plain food, responsibly sourced, and NO BEETROOT!
