You should give all the normals a food hygiene badge and confiscate it whenever they cross contaminate. It'd be quite funny to see these being handed out and taken away throughout the journey.
Would love to see a "food rescue" badge, give them a couple of serves that are too salty, sugary and/or acidic and they have to balance them out, make sure it includes something that has split or is unrecoverable so they can learn that sometimes its best to just start again

I've honestly been impressed by Jamie's performance since last year. He has definitely improved, and become more organised and precise. It's a stark contrast to the early days when Jamie in kitchen meant chaos, it still means chaos but just more controlled chaos
Jamie's basic photography badge win will probably forever be my favourite moment of this entire chef skills challenge series. Sound of Silence duet is a close second.
Jamie still flops in most "Pass It On"s, but when he has full control and a bit more time to prepare things, he is almost always a close contender for first place, he's become pretty good :D
I reckon he's matured a bit, in a really good way. His "bit of a lad" shtick often used to come across (to me anyway) more as just mean and unnecessarily disruptive. Now it's fun and entertaining. Maybe fatherhood has been a good influence?
Jamie’s gone from being the kind of chaos where someone more likely than not going to end up bloody to the kind of chaos where he’s probably just going to derail a Pass It On idea.
Gotta love both Jamie's and Mike's faces as Ben revealed he rescinded a badge! First reaction: "Oh shit, Barry lost a badge!" Second reaction: "Oh shit, Ben can revoke badges..."
It's easy to forget just what good musicians Mike and Jamie are. That was the kind of effortless blending that only really good mates can just snap into.
I love this format - having the normals complete skills surrounding a topic, “chicken”, and getting badges involved in each step. Best video in the badge series yet!
19:42 When Ben revealed Barry had lost a badge, I love how Jamie’s FIRST reaction was horror FOR Barry, in sympathy. He knew how gutted Barry would be. It’s cool that, even though these three boys are competitive, they still genuinely care about each other. (And yes, I’m sure it very quickly occurred to him afterwards to feel horror for *himself*, as he realised all his badges have the potential to be similarly rescinded. But in that first moment, it was all sympathy for Baz.) Edited to add: Haha, it didn’t stop Mike and Jamie from roasting Barry at the end though. “Is there a ‘How to following instructions’ badge that maybe you could go for?”
I just want to say this was the most relaxed I've seen Jamie in a while in the kitchen. He did such a fantastic job and has really improved so much!!! Also I think one of the badges should be the ABCs of fruits and veggies and they have to identify them in dishes, visually, or blind test
@@graphenaishata7960 oh yes that's absolutely true. I wish there was a way to help someone who is color blind to know which veggies are which. Like guides at stores for example
@@katy4523, the only produce I can think of that tastes different based on color is apples, and they are labeled by varieties. Even grapes don't taste much different by color. Bell peppers do, but they are labeled by color and green peppers are much cheaper so you could go by that.
Blind tasting would be interesting, since most veggies in a dish are not there to stand out, but to blend in and harmonize with the rest of the dish. They'd really have to work for that one.
I think you missed out an important bit in this video - how to salvage Barry's failed mayo. How to identify when it's failing, why it's failing, and if it's beyond salvaging.
If I were to venture a guess, it might be that he added the oil too quickly - in the initial phase you have to add oil in tiny quantities or very very slowly to start the emulsification(?)
To save it, he has to start with a new egg and a bit of mustard in a clean bowl, whisk that egg constantly while drizzling a tiny bit of the split mixture in at a time (basically doing a new mayonnaise with the split mixture as the oil part). Or he could leave it still until it splits completely and then blitz it again with a stick blender. The fully separated mixture will whiz up, but simply blitzing the egg into the half-split mixture would not work - I had the experience when I made my first mayonnaise. Agreed with the comment above about him probably adding oil too fast, it was what happened with my first mayo.
@@rulitossimplyrulitos1088 Yes, though it's really important to have clear instruction on how to do it. I used 2-3 eggs in the first day trying to blitz it into my split mayo like some people suggest ("Just beat in another egg" they said!) - definitely full of shit haha. Was very worried that the half cup of EVOO I put in it would go to waste. But then the starting again with a new egg in a new bowl and slowly drizzle in works like a charm!

Jaime is really impressing me. He continues to give solid and, sometimes, inspired skill presentations. I think he's going to win the year. Mike has really improved. If "most improved" qualified for a win, I'd say Mike has that nailed. Barry...bless his heart. He lets his ego and bravado run away from him. He shows some strong skills but always ends up falling down if the slightest thing goes wrong. If he loses the bravado and can roll with the punches, he could upset everything and take the win.
This could actually be one of the best "comedy short films" I have ever seen and the twist with what happened near the end was hilarious but also informative.
The improvement in Jamie in the past few years honestly gives me hope that I can get my life together and finally learn how to fry an egg to perfection!
Want my fool proof method? Oil up a nonstick pan, crack your eggs in, put it on a cold element/hob/burner (whatever you want to call it), cover with a lid of some sort, turn the heat on to medium high. Eventually you'll hear some crackles and popping and that's when you check your egg. Cover with lid and leave on for a few more seconds at a time to desired doneness. The gradual increasing heat will help cook the whites thoroughly, the lid will help it cook from the top as well, and the yolks will remain completely runny.
What I do is this: Cooking spray in a nonstick pan, flame on high, crack the eggs into a bowl and then pour them into the hot pan. Cover for 30 seconds or until the outer white is set. Throw an ice chip OR a tablespoon of cold water in the pan and cover for 15-30 seconds, until yolks are just clouded over. Yolk should be runny and perfect for dipping. Learned this steaming trick by watching DDD. Thank you, Guy Fieri.
Somewhere in the background Janice is probably going "oh dear oh dear!" at Barry's plight. Maybe somebody best lends Barry a copy of the book Science of Spice!
Best episode ever!! Sincere focus from the boys. Skills truly tested. Barry realizing he might want to step it up a bit. Then ending with an amazing harmony. Thanks, gentlemen. Truly made my night.
He has always been top tier, but the boys just keep gaslighting him into not believing it because he's goofy..... and the international incident he caused.
First off I would like to say Mike and Jamie harmonized beautifully in the outro and I eagerly await them to drop thier 1st album. Secondly, Mike faces when Barry got mad at the end was absolutely pricless. Keep the amazing content coming and I cannot wait to see who eventually wins the badges competition.
Would love a chef skills challenge about allergies and or food preferences!! Like the boys get a recipe and then they need to make substitutions to make it gluten free/lactose free/vegan etc. It’s such an important skill for normals as well, hopefully this year can bring some more dinner parties! 🙏
Mike and Jamie harmonizing at the end was just amazing. Also, their reaction to Barry losing a badge was like a child who realized their parent wasn't kidding about a punishment. lol
I love Mike's "You took it away for the fir- What?" after getting the news. I guess they didn't know Ben had the power to take away badges until now (I don't remember if Ben or James ever took away badges before).
This episode has so much in it, Mike and Jamie have improved so much, Barry losing a badge (and the justification thereof) was hilarious, but that Sound of Silence at the end was amazing, need a full version
Where the hell did that perfect harmony come from?! Where have Jamie and Mike been hiding that talent? More importantly, WHY have they been hiding that talent?!?!
From the schadenfreude over Barry's loss, to the shock/realization that they too could potentially lose badges, to the confusion and hilarity that Barry didn't know what goes in Dukkah, and full circle to schadenfreude again. The range of emotions was *chef's kiss*
When Barry tried to impress Ben with Dukkah and it fired back. Then Mike and Jamie listing all the spices correctly. Poor guy. Their faces when they learned he tried to add lavender tho. haha
Idea for another badge : Vegan/Vegetarian food! Would be interesting to see what our Normals come up with all while using fresh produce and everyday ingredients.
Of all the "badges" videos, this one stands out above the others (which were all good). There should be an almost endless amount of badges to give out and keep the series going.

When the world opens up again you should do a catering badge. Have all the normals together plan and cook a three course meal to a larger number of people (maybe each of them are in charge for one of the dishes). Judge on cooperation, planning and quality

Jamie has always been my favorite and to see how far his skills have come is amazing.... Good job Jamie!
Somewhere in the background Janice is probably going "oh dear oh dear!" at Barry's plight. Maybe somebody best lends Barry a copy of the book Science of Spice!
There should definitely be a “Mother Sauces” badge displaying knowledge of all the mother sauces
That one will be just for our entertainment because we know those guys haven't a clue.
we going Hollendaise or Mayo version of mother sauces?
if only to hear the bois say 'velooooute' again
@@Serendipity.fff8e7 we've had both a mayo and holindaise badge, so the point is moot.
@@Serendipity.fff8e7 very good question: here's an answer:
"Selon Escoffier, il existe cinq sauces fondamentales, qui sont des sauces « mères » qui servent de base à toutes les petites sauces composées :
la sauce béchamel, ou reine des sauces ; à base de lait épaissi par un roux blanc.
la sauce espagnole ou sauce brune ; obtenue par réduction d'un jus brun lié par un roux brun
la sauce velouté, où le jus est un fond blanc lié par un roux aussi blanc que possible ;
TLDR: Escoffier said five mother sauces. Mayonnaise is one of them, the four others are bechamel, tomato sauce, velouté and brown sauce. Hollandaise is a translation error.
Wow - loving the vocal harmonies at the end!!
😉 just something a little extra!
@@SortedFood - I’m always down for a good freebie!
“I thought Goujon was FRENCH for Nuggets.” - Barry James Taylor, 2021.
Confession: I didn’t know it either. 😂
Hilarious huh 😂
@@SortedFood Do people in the UK just normally call a lot of stuff by French names? I think we would just call those chicken strips in the US.
I've legit never heard them called that before, and you can look at my name to guess my first language.
@@ReaperUnreal Interesting.
He should lose the basic French badge too
That extra clip of Jamie and Mike singing to Barry *chef’s kiss*
Also Mike acting like a kid at a candy shop at Barry losing a badge 🤣🤣🤣
Best episode ever!! Sincere focus from the boys. Skills truly tested. Barry realizing he might want to step it up a bit. Then ending with an amazing harmony. Thanks, gentlemen. Truly made my night.
Baz: you won’t take away my badge
Ben: won’t I?
Baz: you won’t.
*Badge revoked*
Jamie in the past year has ascended to top tier normal I swear! Literally just needs to nail plating now.
And even that he's gotten really good at, considering.
He has always been top tier, but the boys just keep gaslighting him into not believing it because he's goofy..... and the international incident he caused.
@@caseofrapier and the comment section constantly putting him down because Mike doesn’t win....
You mean Mike.
"I took the bone out."
"Oh, excellent. I didn't even ask. _He boned a thigh._ "
Mate-
He de-boned a thigh...
Boneless thighs are actually super popular in the food world.
@@heididavison816 that is not what the Bennuendo master said :D
I agree with Ben taking Barry’s spice badge away.
This is the whole idea.
I love this series so much
First off I would like to say Mike and Jamie harmonized beautifully in the outro and I eagerly await them to drop thier 1st album.
Poor Barry lol. But respect to Ebbers for holding them to a standard.
hes doing good. I love his merciless Professionalism in these challenges. Makes these far more entertaining and educational for me at least :D
20:05 Jamie trying to join in knowing what's in dukka but only managing "SALT" and "PEPPER" 😂
To be fair, he did say Cumin at the same time as Mike
I wonder why he didn't get his badge taken away for that random misstep.
@@ComradeAlpharius he didn't win the spiceology badge, Barry did 😂
Mike and Jamie harmonizing at the end was just amazing. Also, their reaction to Barry losing a badge was like a child who realized their parent wasn't kidding about a punishment. lol
The harmony between Mike and Jamie at the end singing "Sound of Silence" was lovely!
The irony of Ben judging the egg skills when he once failed to boil an egg is frankly hilarious.
I was thinking of that when he started up.
That "Hello darkness, my old friend" was absolutely amazing!
We NEED a full cover by Mike and Jamie of “Hello darkness my old friend”
It’s called Sounds of Silence, by Simon and Garfunkel
@@Tom-vx5eq what the fuck are you on about

Oh, my goodness! On top of everything else, they can sing too??? That was LOVELY!
Watching Jamie's face while Barry's sauce is judged was such a journey. 😂
J and Mike being shocked at the news of the badge loss was everything.
I love Mike's "You took it away for the fir- What?" after getting the news. I guess they didn't know Ben had the power to take away badges until now (I don't remember if Ben or James ever took away badges before).
Mike and Jamie with that harmony definitely badges there.
I miss them singing
, my favourite was the Disney battle
Just when I was looking for something to watch, Sorted came through!
Love it when that happens - enjoy!
Yeah they sorted you out
Same 🥰🥰
So true
@@caveminer2789 😂
i loved mike and jamie's harmonizationism hahaha please do a full version! seriously!
So Jamie and Mike get the acapella/Simon and Garfunkel badge, right?
This episode has so much in it, Mike and Jamie have improved so much, Barry losing a badge (and the justification thereof) was hilarious, but that Sound of Silence at the end was amazing, need a full version
21:18 Jamie starting off with the harmony and then Mike joining in was cool as fuck!
I loved Jamie looking so happy with himself about getting all the eggs correct.
Where the hell did that perfect harmony come from?! Where have Jamie and Mike been hiding that talent? More importantly, WHY have they been hiding that talent?!?!
This was one of my favorite videos. I'm afraid I've been binge-wathcing lately :)
Their faces as Ben announces Barry's lost badge XD
From the schadenfreude over Barry's loss, to the shock/realization that they too could potentially lose badges, to the confusion and hilarity that Barry didn't know what goes in Dukkah, and full circle to schadenfreude again. The range of emotions was *chef's kiss*
Oh, yes their faces showed all the emotion.
I insist that jamie and mike do a full acapella cover of Sound of Silence. That harmony at the end was AMAZING LIKE WHAT
Barry's utter despair made me smile, and I have never felt worse for laughing this hard in my life.
When Barry tried to impress Ben with Dukkah and it fired back. Then Mike and Jamie listing all the spices correctly. Poor guy.
Their faces when they learned he tried to add lavender tho. haha
I love the Harmony when they started singing in the End! SO NICE! GIVE US MORE!
“I’ve got to put it back”
“No”
Jamie got Chef Lanlard'ed again!
On the leaderboard, possible to line up the badges that all 3 have so we don’t have to bounce our eyes around everywhere to see who has what?
Yes, please
Second that !
agreed
Agree!
Definitely.
Idea for another badge : Vegan/Vegetarian food! Would be interesting to see what our Normals come up with all while using fresh produce and everyday ingredients.
This is a great idea - thank you!
That sounds great! Although Jamie might some trouble with that challenge
@@SortedFood there are soooo many vegan recipes in the middle eastern cuisine which the normals could take inspiration from 👍
Seconded!
@@SortedFood To add a creativity badge, have them veganize an otherwise non-vegan dish. So, like make a vegan pizza, or make a vegetarian burger.
Of all the "badges" videos, this one stands out above the others (which were all good). There should be an almost endless amount of badges to give out and keep the series going.
Absolutely one of my favourite episodes… also we could all use regular serenades from Mike and Jamie!
Ben last week: "I think Barry knows who is handing out badges the rest of the year"
Ben this week: "I think I'm going to take away badges from Barry the rest of the year"
Barry, you played yourself.
#barrygotscrewed
I love how you took “kitchen hygiene badge” suggestion very seriously
When the world opens up again you should do a catering badge. Have all the normals together plan and cook a three course meal to a larger number of people (maybe each of them are in charge for one of the dishes). Judge on cooperation, planning and quality
Can we get a video thats just the guys singing the entire "hello darkness my old friend" song? that sounded amazing!
The shade in this episode is fantastic. I giggled along,; reminded of being around my siblings and being competitive about everything.
