- The Ultimate Chef Skills Challenge is back for 2022 and today the 3 normals are being pushed to the limit with their Teamwork skills in another professional kitchen scenario. Well… we say ‘professional’ in the loosest possible term because it’s Ebbers’ Deli!! This time Advanced Teamwork badges are up for grabs.

I’ve said it once and I’ll say it again, we need a food safety badge. Temperatures, hand washing, cross contamination, not touching hair and face, reusing tasting spoons, proper cleansing of surfaces etc. I think the boys would melt down each time Ebbers makes a buzzer sound when the do something wrong 😂
I'd love this to be a secret badge, though. Like, mention there's a secret badge up for grabs but they don't know what it is in the end. Maybe it could be something like not using more tools and bowls than you need, may be it's food safety. Maybe it's proper knife handling?
Oooh l love this idea. When I watch Barry (no hate) he is constantly touching his hair and his face and the ex restaurant cook in me cringes every time I see it.
food safety but bring back the electro shock buzzers!!!
Yes! I cringed when I saw them cut the still raw in the middle chicken on the cutting board. I would have stopped after that and immediately washed the knife and board before continuing to use it, or at least gotten a clean board and knife. Maybe they did and it was edited out?
I know that a lot of things like washing hands, and washing dishes up, are edited out, but this would be a lot of fun!
Ben: “What’s in the coleslaw?”
Mike: “Coleslaw Stuff.”
2022 has just started and I’ve laughed my head off 😂
LOL.... he's not wrong!
I came to comment on just that. It made me do a spit take laugh. :)
I don't get it.
Ive been watching these videos for years amd never had an issue, but I honestly did not understand most of what has come out of any of their mouths in this video. I felt like they were all talking super fast gibberish. it was chaotic and I didnt get what was happening.
@@mindom It was chaotic as per usual!
The kiss, Baz being chuffed, then Ben’s aside was perfection.
7:58 for those who want an action replay.
Laughed out loud.
Barry's "Oh my godness, Michael!" was so sweet 😍
Mike kissing Baz on the temple and Baz's reaction were precious and lovely. Normalize (or in Sorted's case, Normals-ize) men being affectionate with their friends. ❤
“A sign of bad management is the people that they employ.”
I didn’t expect to hear this truth today, but yes!
Truth bombs coming through! 💣
Jamie with his ‘A Deli’ joke. That’s the litmus test right there whether we need more ‘Dad Joke of the Week’ 😂
Mike being shoved into the leader role, laughing about how it seems silly, is exactly how school group tasks go
Ok but despite that, he picked up the ball and rolled with it
But then to notice that Barry first turned to Jamie for advice and not Mike. In a way showing that subconscious Barry sees Jamie as someone to follow from.
@@sirBrouwer probably because Jaime tends to act self confident even when he doesn't know what he's doing while Mike tends to lack self confidence even when he knows exactly what he's doing!
@@mattisme yes exactly!!
@@mattisme That I have noticed as well.
I wonder if he could project that well enough to run the kitchen and manage others to do there work.
In a way I would like all three to (try) run a kitchen with a small crew² where they only expedite and manage it hands off. (like a chef running his line crew)
² with a crew they don't know really. the boys know each other to well that they should be able to predict what may happen with person x.
I absolutely love this format! When the guys are working together instead of against each other they really can do miracles!
Agreed! I look forward to Ben's Pub!
Agreed, I think it’s SO fun!!!
Just throwing this out there - I would absolutely eat at Ebbers' Deli if they had an open kitchen and I could watch all of this. Better than dinner theatre.
So it's like a toned down version of Hell's Kitchen
HEAR HEAR
@@txywishes less anxiety inducing hell’s kitchen. Which I prefer hahahahah
“Sorry that you had no other choice, but to eat here.”
We love the flamboyance 😂
Can we please flip this concept on its head by having Ben do one of those imaginary diners?
I'm really curious to see how a professional chef would tackle this. Also the normals could maybe learn somthing for ben's pub challenge.
Especially if he had one or two other chefs to boss around. Would be great to see how it should be done!
Oh yes!!! This would be fun even if he and the normals had a ‘deli’ and would cook to order for the rest of the Sorted Food team, so they knew their colleagues were depending on them for lunch!
HOLY COW YES YES YESS!!! WOULD ABSOLUTELY LOVE TO SEE THIS!!!
Barry: I'm in charge of all the sauces and the soup.
Also Barry: How do you make mayonaisse? What is BBQ sauce? See if the soup tastes nice, because I haven't got a clue.
Barryyyyyyy 😂
Jamie: historically, there's a reason the community has the saying "he spaffed it", but man's been carrying the team for over a year
Mike: will he believe in himself and carry the team like he did all through 2020, or is Huttlestorm Season?
Baz: mumblemumblewhatarewedoingwhynoththisinstead
LOLLLLLLL
Man cuts loaves of bread with the plastic on....
"Carried the team" xD
That's a good one.
jamie is just the meat guy who eats lot of fat and makes raw meat but funny as hell they are not decent cooks but among normal's he is probably the best cook mike close as well but when he don't have to cook meat he fails like no other
@@recommended1782 Barry is obviously the best cook, and the chefs know it which is why they are a lot harsher on him especially in their ultimate battles. Jamie is next best then Mike (bless him)
Honestly, I feel the lads should be put in charge of the menu as well: just set a minimum of dishes per category and let them be smart about limiting the number of mise en place their menu would require.
That would definitely be a great advanced badge
The menu badge.
Maybe not for this challenge, but I think for another challenge, that would be absolutely top.
One of the things Chefs always have to be smart about, is planning. How many ingredients can be repeated through the dishes, how easy is the preparation and how do I need to cook things down the line, that I dont have to have 5 pans on at the same time.. ..and that is just what I know off -laugh-
So seeing them plan the stuff that I would not be able to wrap my head around enough, but that my Dad (he is a trained Chef) could do in his sleep.. it would be cool to see our chaotic trio tackle it^^
That would be brilliant. So many things to get right.
Can they get enough variety in the menu to please everyone without making it too complicated to prep and cook? Do they identify allergens in the dishes and know how to swap them out in need? Which ones are vegan and which ones can be made vegan/vegetarian on request?
And with Ebbers judging we are guaranteed at least 1 table of fussy eaters will walk out because there is nothing on the menu to their liking.
Baz: "I think that's fair."
Commendable effort. I think you all have grown a lot and while not "advanced" teamwork, it has improved dramatically. Excellent job, boys.
This video more than many makes me want a "SORTEDFood Uncut" version where I can get all the unbleeped swears and some extra saucy banter that we all know is happening behind the scenes :P
Remember, teamwork is ganging up against management! 🤣🤣🤣
Mike being thrust into leadership role is really good because he really knows how to lead!
PS. Baz said Mike is the best communicator, I mean he's good with his mouth.
😂 haha!
but then Barry reacted by asking Jamie for advice. As Mike is now a middle manager.
@@sirBrouwer That means Jamie and Baz are gonna ganging up on Mike now? 😂
@@franciscodetonne4797 yes they will. It's now them against Mike and Ben.
Except he's not and he didn't. Part of teamwork is being honest about everyone's strengths and weaknesses. Jamie is the leader of that group; all 4 of them being in various kinds of denail about that isn't helping anyone.
honestly so glad that i’m back in my sorted phase. clicking on this channel was one of the best decisions i’ve made. love y’all ❤️
Thanks so much for your support Chloe! It's great to be back :)
I echo your sentiment. I've been faithfully watching this channel for 2 years after stumbling upon it accidentally. I'm so happy to have found this channel. I especially like pass it on challenges, but I watch absolutely everything they put out. They all feel like friends I haven't met yet.
Agree, it is one of the things I look out for every week.
Literally same….it’s been getting me THRU lately 😭
Yes it is one of the only channels on youtube that always delivers
An yes. *advanced* teamwork. This is gonna go well 😂
Let's see 👀
Before I watch, im willing to guess: No it won't.
Surprisingly yes it was
@@Shadowreaper5 THEN WHERE IS THE BADGE! Where are the badges, ShadowReaper50!?
@@HonorThyTarkus Ben was being unfair imo
I'd like to see them get a ~hidden~ test of teamwork skills, by doing a Pass It On and seeing how often they do prep work for the next person -- and losing points for how much they hide ingredients or leave problems for the others to solve later! =D
Ben should probably go first and last, in that case (unless there's a James or Poppy to take one of those spots).
They are going to fail miserably! 😅🤣
The normals should challenge Ben next , a series of Ben making the hardest food to cook from around the world maybe….
I agree. I think an expert judge to judge ben's offerings too
yes i like this! food knowledge from around the world. maybe not the most complicated, but also just the regular stuff they have in other places
Or the food team sets the menu, ebbers headchef and normals support and follow ben
Ben is good at everything . Maybe put him to work in an Italian deli environment or vegan deli environment or fast food environment. But on a fast food, he is timed on each order.
So far, Barry and Ben have delis. I knew there was more to them than just being the best of friends and living in their country cottage.
I think my only note is if this was a deli most of these would be to-go orders, particularly when mentioning the delivery app. I think seeing the boys handle a mix of "to-go" and "for here" because packaging everything up correctly as well is key
I would really love to see Ben and another Chef or two do this challenge. I don't expect any hangups or faffing, I'm just really interested in seeing this play out from a "seasoned" perspective and how well these things can be executed :)
Fun Fact: “Hot Smoothie” is not only what Ben calls soup, but it’s also his Tinder handle.
A like, tick. A good laugh, tick. Watching 3 normal cooks run around with chaos making deli challenge, priceless.
Barry: soup done...just needs chicken corn seasoning cream
Mike & Jay: that's the entirety of the soup!
I think none of them deserved the badge in question but I think Mike should be rewarded with some sort of leadership-badge for fantastic effort!
Very entertaining as always!
12 years and you never fail to deliver great content and a good laugh to my life. Thanks boys!
When Jamie said "conquer and divide" (divide and conquer) , my brain went "ah, such a British thing to say "😉
Can you do something like this, but with the chef’s side of the production? See how Ben and the rest are working together.
Or, and it’s even a better idea, Ben and a couple of non-chefs from the production team, see how good of a leader he is!
I want this badge reattempted with dinner. I like that there is a progression from breakfast to lunch to dinner. Even if it's not for a badge, I love when they need to work as a team.
Love how they didn't give Jamie the salad. I seem to remember him getting bored chopping things 🤔🥗
They’re all guilty of getting bored while chopping but Jamie is a big offender
@@zzskyninjazz1821 Jamie is a smart-arse regarding the others, which is odd because he's not all that taletnted himself. Or perhaps it's not that odd; insecure people like to go on the attack to hide their own insecurities.
@@AlanHope2013 Jamie is the better chef out of the "normals" when they are prepared. Just look at how he dominated the french cousine battle. I don't really see how he in particular is a smart ass, when the others have ben joking at how bad of a chef he is so much that the call fucking up"spaffing" and they play clown music during his turn att pass it on.
@@AlanHope2013 Jamie hardly ever hides his insecurities. He’s very open about the things he struggles with in the kitchen.
And they’re all smart arses to each other. They always say it’s easy to poke fun on the sides but it’s hard when they’re actually doing it
I think Mike deserves some credit for taking on the leader role and constantly checking all prep was ticked off.
Perhaps not advances leadership but definitely stood up to the plate in this one!
He did really well.... however, it was a teamwork badge that was up for grabs. No "I" in team.
@@SortedFood sure, but teamwork is stronger with defined roles, Mike seemed to be key to making sure everyone had a role, all tasks were completed andto ensure help was there for anybody struggling.
Sure he didn’t have all the answers, but that’s not a leader does, a leader is the oil in the machine that keeps the whole team on purpose and reminds them they’re not competing against each other but competing as a team to be the best collectively.
He was rough around the edges, and I’m sure there were many things I didn’t see before the video was edited, but I think he deserves some recognition for his contribution.
I think Jamie earned a badge. He gave criticism well (about garlic) with additional instructions, helped with questions (the mayo), communicated clearly about prep work (about "rare" chicken), and assisted when others fell behind (adding chicken to the soup). His only error in the video was ONE panini didn't have the amount of meat you wanted (a rare mistake from Jamie) but it has nothing to do with teamwork!
I wonder if at the end of these badges they go into an actual kitchen to see how their skills have developed/improved over these courses... and to see how many badges get revoked from the three
I still think Barry should have his bread badge revoked for cutting through the bag when he sliced the bread. He should have to do milk bread again to regain his badge. My wounds are still healing from that cut.
I think you could turn this format into a show, I'd love seeing it, just tackling different cuisines, prep then taking orders.
I kinda just wanna see a battle between the normals where they all create the most chaotic food fusion ever, that might actually work together!
Ahhh... hold that thought... something fun coming soon. One of the most confusing fusions ever! Ever.
I could really just watch them “work in a deli” and be entertained forever
Love this format! Do themed cooking restaurants - Jamie’s meatery, where the other three work. Mike’s Lads Brunch where they other three work it, Barry’s Bougie Bistro, etc etc. Love this video!
Barry’s Bougie Bistro sounds like a hell of a theme! I’d love to watch that. The challenge is to include 1 quirky or posh ingredient while keeping the price per menu items still competitive with market rates + prep time reasonable for dine in
This was like watching someone play Diner Dash, you should make a Sortedfood version where you can select who is cooking and the others come in and make the orders.
I'm just glad you let them fail. Sometimes stuff is given freely because you don't want to be mean to your friends, which is understandable, but they are big boys and I presume the agreed to be evaluated so it's best to be honest.
All that said, I'd watch you guys do just about anything, been watching long enough now you almost seem like MY friends.
Ben: "Are you ready to start your challenge?"
Barry: "NO!"
If this isn't a mood and a half I don't know what is! 😂😂💖👌
As someone who has worked in a deli for the last 5 years and offers a similar menu with grain bowls, soups, sandwiches and more, they did great! It was a bit unfair because if you are working in a cafe you know what to make , how to make it, how it should look and how to do it in a timely manner. The communication does definitely come in with the repetition and knowing what your doing and what's going on. I think they deserve either a badge or a second chance with the same menu.
I Iove that this series shows that Barry was always using Jamie as a scapegoat in previous years, especially on pass it ons.
I actually think they did rather well on this challenge, the normals, or "amateur chefs" have really come along!
Good team work. And it sounds like a mixology badge is around the corner.
On a different note, a consistency badge would be a good idea. In my time in the food service, consistency was a very important aspect of the business. Might I suggest pizzas be used as a test bed? Consistent stretch size, consistent number of pepperonis, consistent amount of cheese, etc. Every customer should get the same thing when they order and each time they order it on different days it should be the same, so a multi day badge to check for how consistent they can work.
Great idea, or even a toasted sandwich bar setup as I noted the sandwiches were only toasted on one side and not heated through the thick slices of cheese. I've also, previously worked in a Cafe and one of my main roles was to prepare the sandwich bar, slice all the veggies and get everything out and ready to make a ton of toasted and non-toasted sandwiches. Consistency and cleanliness were extremely important.
BTW, I'm guessing you're American based on the pepperoni, I don't think anywhere makes that iconic pepperoni pizzas in Australia, plus I'm pretty sure that's what we call salami but I would be happy to be corrected by a fellow Australian if I'm wrong? Our pizzas are nowhere near as large as American pizzas, the huge size is a comical highlight for Aussie tourists in America, instead, we usually add a lot more toppings, the margarita being the exception, our bases tend to be thicker but it depends where you buy them, the wood fired oven pizzas tend to be thin. Oh and a pizza isn't a pizza without pineapple 😋
@@MaZEEZaM I am American and have never been to Australia. As for Pepperoni vs Salami, here there are differences. Salamis tend to be thicker cured sausages with a pink color and a different flavor profile compared to skinnier, redder pepperoni.
And I do like pineapple on pizza as well. Particularly with pork products like ham or bacon. Sweet and salty works well.
Great idea on consistency badge!
I think I agree with Ben ngl. Advanced teamwork definitely comes with experience so maybe after one or two or twenty more tries, the boys may be able to snatch up the badge.
I'd love to see the team do a pop up food truck sort of thing. The food team comes up with the menu and trains the normals and they have to pull it off with Ebbers barking orders at them.
Absolutely loving having Ebrell Hospitality Management Co. opening up these multiple restaurants for our 3 novice chefs ❤️ we get to see all the fun chaos, prep, banter and team work. Please do more! We can even use the same theme to test our Normals on Cocktail Drink or Mixing Skills knowledge for a Bar theme 🍸 or a Baking teamwork challenge. The list goes on 😆
I think Jamie deserves a mentor badge for teaching Barry how to make mayo, and then teaching Mike how to make spicy tuna salad :D
I feel like Jamie is secretly in training to become a chef, He seems more confident and knows alot more compared to just a year ago 🤔
I’ve been thinking the same thing, but at the same time it could be that through these challenges he’s realized what he has absorbed from working with the chefs and because of that has gotten more confident in his skills.
I think he's definitely grown into his own and has gotten a lot more comfortable with incorporating new techniques!
Watching this felt a lot like watching Overcooked 2 let's plays that I have seen. Just enough organization to hold the panic and chaos together to get the full 3 stars.
I hope they continue this series after Ebber's Pub. It's almost like a different flavor of Pass It On
I think between bits of what we've seen today and the 3 course french meal they did a few weeks back maybe Jamie needs a chance at the wheel! He seems like if he gets all of his braincells in a row he could be really good at leading a challenge like this!
Agreed!
Both of them? 😉
4:26 The look of disgust on Ebber's face is priceless.
Safety in the kitchen is essential. Taste is subjective and presentation is basic, it is a deli after all. I only agree with Ebbers over the safety issue. Question, did Baz leave an element on, on the stove causing the soup to thicken? I think the boys did a fairly decent job. 6/10
Jamie casually slipping in the Adelli dad joke was a welcome call back... I've been missing the old Fridge Cam Dad Joke of the Week.
I think you did well, just very funny how serious you take it at the end when being judged. 😂
Shout out to making safety the start of this ep! It's so fundamental, but often winds up being the first thing to start suffering when pressure piles on! Good job everyone, it's fun to watch you all struggle and improve!
I was watching the beginner teamwork video today and I remarked on how I love the teamwork rather than the sabotage, so I'm very happy to see more of that today.
This is an excellent pre-final exam type challenge and I'm glad they've all improved enough where they can understand where they came up short. Really excited to see them reattempt this challenge in a few months and succeed.
Not finished watching this episode yet. Just wanted to say, growing up in my early 20's watching these fella's start off their YT career many years ago, how proud I am of you all for the business that you've grown. I have been a supporter of use for many years now.
You have all aged just as nice as fine wine, may I add. 🍷
Would love to see use down under in Australia, Queensland, sometime in the near future hopefully. Would love for use to see a sunny/warm Summer Christmas and checkout some of the different dishes we put on our tables at Christmas lunch after a swim in the pool!🍽️💞🐨
Can we get a parallel edit of Barry saying we're very generous and then a throwback to when he cussed us out for the basic photography badge? 😂
They ABSOLUTELY deserve an intermediate team work badge.
Can't go from novice to advanced.
JUSTICE FOR THE BOYS😂
Genuinely love this format. I fell in love with Sorted watching the lads always competing against each other, and while I don't want to see ultimate battles or anything go away, seeing them work together on challenges like this is very fun in an entirely different way.
One of the rare channels that I like before I’ve even watched the video.
Jamie and Mike definitely deserve a teamwork badge for how much they carried Barry
Here I was thinking they were doing great and then the orders started coming in. 😂
There however is teamwork, although it is some wonderful chaos.
How about a "know your tools" badge where everybody has to prepare a dish and they can select the tools to cook it. Valued is the right tool for the job, if it adds something special or is just convenience and so on...
Also, restrict the number of tools they can choose, then have them follow through and make it.
@@daalelli Yes, nice idea! hurdle no. one: "Oh you did not pick a knife"
Adding to this "know your tools," how about tool maintenance. such as knife sharpening?
I love Barry so very much more for getting the "two soups" reference!!! Kudos to you, Dude! You're a class act! :)
Ben just lightly kissed their hopes&dreams with the doom hammer! Most realistic part of working in a deli^_^
It would be cool if they can ‘upgrade’ their badges, sort of like ‘Gilding’ the badges to tier 2 or something ya know? Or platinum badge or badges that once gilded is safe and won’t be rescinded but the criteria of earning it is extremely strict
Maybe at Ben's pub, they all have a bonus badge that they are individually trying to get, like Baz's mayo badge, as well as the advanced teamwork badge! Great work boys, Mike absolutely smashed it with leading the prep!
Idea for the pub: each have to choose a beer to go with the dish. Beer badge!
(Unless they already did that, I easily lose track of has been done and what not)
@@KuroiAllen Maybe a pairing badge! Don't think they've done that yet.
@@taheera8849 Yesss!
@@KuroiAllen Jamie should be banned from pairing with Guinness though, too easy for him.
@@taheera8849 Maybe they could prepare 10 beers before hand, and the normals only get to know the options halfway trough or at the end of prepping time.
I love how Ben has gone full Scout leader with staged badges 😆
Please get the boys to have a go at backwoods cooking (maybe even for their backwoods cooking badge?)!
I'm happy this series and the badges are continuing into 2022.
Hoping we get Mike in a Robin Hood costume this 2022 🙏
Mike giving Barry that little kiss was just adorable
Safety badge! Because with 3 people hurrying around a pot of cream soup with the handle sticking straight out--I'm stressed!
I like these teamwork episodes!
Does Jamie maybe deserve a badge for being pretty good today about like, helping out Barry and Mike? Like, as Ben mentioned, he wasn't the leader but he did do a lot of helping of the others and even put aside making fun of Barry to help him make food.
The fact that I appreciate the boys and all those behind the scenes enough to let a 29 minute add play... do I need therapy?
No lie I'd love to see more of Ben commanding the normals in a kitchen like setting!
I really like this platform. It is like Pass It On but with a cooperative element. It would be interesting if the Normals were Head chef and they were directing different Normals.
I love "Pass it on", they are definitely my favorite videos. Here's a suggestion for the next "Pass it on", write down a lot of handicap suggestions such as Use only one hand, Blindfold for 1 minute, Must use something BROWN, RED, YELLOW, GREEN ... all suggestions in one hat and must be pulled at the beginning.
glad the chef skills are back for 2022.. hopefully sticks around for a while, its amazingly fun
I agree with Ben not awarding the badge. With solid communication and coordination, you can handle things like running out of things you’ve prepped with ease. Some tips for next time: don’t move things from their places, if you see something getting low then shout it out so more can be made, figure out what your pathway flow is going to be and always remember to say “Behind you” if you’re behind someone and need to get at their work area.
I want the next installment! Ben’s pub!
8:00 what I love about that joke is that it actually is their workplace
so
HR? Janie? Anyone?
Maybe not quite badge-worthy, but I think they did really well for only having 10 minutes to plan!
I felt like Mike and Jamie turned up fresh for work at the deli this morning. But, Barry maybe had a hard night out the night before and turned up a little hungover and maybe still a little stoned. Still, well done guys. Entertaining as always.
Proud of how well Mike is doing taking control! Definitely good leadership skills!
OK you guys got me. After mooching free videos and using you guys for recipes and inspiration I finally got the meal packs app! Thanks for y'alls hard work, I really appreciate it!
How is it working out?
Keep up the great work guys! Would love to see some Balkan cuisine incorporated in some of the episodes. Cheers from Bulgaria 😉
Huge favor! I have a family of 8 stuck in the house now. 5 ravenous teenagers. Tips for huge meals, tips, and tricks would be amazing!
I've been watching guys since u started. Never missed a video. From Mikes musicals to this. Absolutely love every single video.
If the guys did this as a regular thing i'd watch every episode of it
This was hilarious. I lost it when Barry threw the garlic in the oven lol.
This chilled teamwork kitchen is the very opposite of Pass It On! I like it. 😊
I'd love for them to get to watch a real shift with James, take notes and then use what they learned to do a real restaurant shift... Maybe for charity ?
Looking forward to going to Ben's Pub! It better serve fish and chips. Good job, everyone, all things considered! Much love and Happy New Year!
