This video was supposed to be a proper off-road test of the GX 550 Overtrail. Unfortunately the course that Lexus put together got completely flooded and was a no-go. A week after this was filmed we were able to test another GX 550 Overtrail+ off-road in the California desert...stay tuned for that. Until then, hope you guys enjoy this first take for some info and initial impressions. Cheers!
I love when all the youtubers meet like this. It shows them outside of being on their channel. Really humanizes everyone and shows how most people are good people. Loved the video and this truck seems really cool for people who want the vehicle and/or the style it represents.
I wasn't sure about the new GX, but after seeing the specs, capabilities, and people talking about how quiet/comfortable it is, I legitmately think that I will be picking one of these up in about 5 - 6 years when they depreciate. Lexus did a great job on this one! Especially the Overtrail+. I love that you can get one without a moonroof and that it's only a 5 seater. I have a 2002 Yukon XL right now and the third row seat just sits in the garage collecting dust. Love how much low-end torque it has too.
So awesome to see my favorite car reviewers in one car. Hopefully they collab again in the future. Their personalities are very different but I bet these two could make a good duo in a top gear type format
My assessment is based on what I observed at the Auto Show in California. For comparing this SUV, I recommend examining others. To attend, both my wife and I had to pay a $30 fee, and I was particularly eager to personally see the Lexus GX due to the hype surrounding it as a large off-road SUV. Before I outline the positives and negatives, I want to express my anticipation spanning decades for the GX to unveil a new design. However, I am disappointed with what I encountered. Pros: * The shape is commendable, featuring a perfect boxy design akin to competitors such as the Defender, Jeep Cherokee, and GMC. * While the central infotainment system is not groundbreaking, it maintains consistency with other Lexus models, which is acceptable. * Cons: * There are numerous drawbacks. The model I viewed exceeded $77k and lacked the ML sound system. * The absence of a panoramic sunroof, now a standard feature in modern vehicles, detracts from the luxurious experience. * The panoramic sunroof in the Luxury+ model is underwhelming and seems to mimic the idea from the Venza, which has been on the market for over six years. * The quality of leather and interior falls short compared to other SUVs in the same price range. Even the Toyota Highlander boasts superior interior quality. * The exterior feels excessively plastic, particularly upon contact with the bumper, hood, and other body panels. * Leather quality across all trims is subpar. * Fuel economy poses a significant issue in 2024, averaging only 17 mpg. * Many materials exude a cheap feel, failing to deliver a luxurious experience. * If one opts for all available options on the Lexus GX 550, it may be preferable to choose the LX 600, which offers a higher level of luxury and power. * For a better depiction of luxury, consider examining the Infiniti QX80: ruclips.net/video/NMzD7nLQlDY/видео.html I've been a longtime enthusiast of this SUV, but now, even surpassing $80k plus tax, it's hardly worth the investment. In 2024, there's a myriad of alternative options I've contemplated, including the Ford F150 Electric, Rivian, Cybertruck, GMC Denali AT4, Sequoia, and the Volkswagen Atlas Off-Road version, among others, boasting advanced technology and commendable qualities. Toyota and Lexus seem to be marketing very basic vehicles under the guise of reliability. Many individuals I conversed with at the auto show shared my sentiment that the GX 550 pales in comparison to the 460 in terms of quality, feeling cheaply constructed. This SUV no longer epitomizes luxury, not by a long shot. If you disregard reliability and juxtapose it against brands like BMW, Audi, and Land Rover, it's disheartening to witness its decline. Purchasing this vehicle entails enduring it for another six years solely to mitigate depreciation, while numerous other automakers are already introducing superior and more advanced technology. At present, I must explore alternative options, as this SUV is not worth $85k out of the door, if you're fortunate enough. Best wishes with your new purchase. Just bear in mind, many individuals are compensated for endorsing Toyota and Lexus brands, and I've encountered numerous instances of Toyota dealers leveraging social media to generate interest in these vehicles. In conclusion, this is merely my perspective. Enjoy your new purchase
Nice video POV as usual! I like how they went back to boxy styling and the body on frame looks like it’s doing its stuff keeping the cabin pretty compliant. I’m not used to Joe Raiti being so quiet on a video. He was limited to one word/joke probably every 2-3 min in the first half of the video. Quite odd feeling but nice to see him in the colab. 😂
I like the lack of 3rd row on this model. I'd like to remove the 3rd row in my 460 but then I need something to cover whats left and the premade solutions are kind of pricey.
Want a third row? Just jump in the back! three, four people in the cargo area, landing on top of each other on each sudden turn. That's the way we did it in the 80s, and we LIKED it!
These are going to be hard to come by. I was at my local lexus dealer and they said they already have 70 people lined up who want the first ones and they are only getting 4 start. Also, I wanted to build one, but apparently Lexus/Toyota doesn't let you build to order. Great looking vehicle and good video.
Two questions @Topher 1. Is the steering very loose and vague? Seems like a ton of inputs for mild turns 2. I heard the new Landcruiser may get the tiny 18 gallon fuel tank as the Tacoma. If so its totallly not usable for overlanding and will require frequent stops just daily driving. Would be a big miss from Yota I love the visibility though
For the love of God, would someone please ask Toyota if the eKDSS can handle a proper 2.5 inch lift without the nightmares of the old KDSS? And what else will go wrong with that lift? Potential customers want to know! :)
8 inch’s of ground clearance WOW ! I’m one hundred percent sure that’s two more inches than a Prius must be a seriously off road capable vehicle 😅! Until a Prius with a two inch lift rolls up .
Do you think they don’t offer the digital rear view mirror because they think the camera will get dirty because they don’t seem to think the front camera will get dirty 😅 but god forbid a nice digital rear view mirror option for the off road model.
@@igeekone You missed the point. Many people go out and buy “real” A/T tires, but never go off-road. People still want the aesthetic of the real thing. Put real tires on from factory and charge the difference for them.
Normal for a Toyota/Lexus product. Plenty of other options if someone wants the latest and greatest brand new tech that's going to malfunction and keep the car at the dealer. I wouldn't upgrade either if I was you.
Disappointing video. There is no mention of how the diff lock works or even how various driving modes work. The driver and passenger are having their own side conversations without really explaining the features of the vehicle

GX 550 Overtrail on-road test?
Coming soon too!
More mud and flood better it is for testing. Are they trying to get their vehicles back unharmed?
@@krisk1547Yes
Same is the case with new land cruiser. They have only given 4 vehicles for testing and want them back. Mat from carwow said this.
Joe Raiti?! Crazy crossover
Best crossover so far in the Car Reviewer Cinematic Universe
Wonder which snacks Joe brought to the trail...
"Is Joe Raiti a BETTER midsize car reviewer than THE TOPHER?!"

appreciate the insightful debate about cacti, cows, and their natural habitat.
Haha glad you made it that far, had to come up with something entertaining to talk about!
If you buy me one, I'll move to Michigan, attach cameras to it, and get some sick B-roll driving shots for you!
Did he bring the Twinkie’s?

Chris, The three main lessons taught by this video are sidewall, sidewall and sidewall. 😁
This is the greatest collab of all time

THE Raiti?! Dude the car reviewer cinematic universe is getting crazier
Pretty cool to see a bunch of water in the desert.

Maybe he doesn’t like talking
Rocks will love that front windshield!!! Just like my 4Runner 😩
Raiti in the house !!
The gear whine in 4Low is kinda cool, just gives it a special feeling
Absolutely need this car
Just love the Ovetrail+.
Love the gx and Also your speed master… great watch 👍

Wow Joe from Rati's rides!!!!
Nice speedy bro
I liked the surprise passenger princess!
Great watch mang. I've got the same one and love it.
Really hoping for an on-road review of Overtrail+😎 Would like to see your opinion of E-KDSS on-road benefits vs standard suspension🙏!!
Two legends in this episode! Hope that Joe saved a twinkie for you!
Here come the markups
Looks good 👍🏾
Raiti rides?😮
Joe Raiti has been known to store extra twinkies in his 33 inch tires. 😂
Joey is inside hiding twinkies while you're giving us the quick, outside review! 😂😅😂
camera resolution seems bad, but what sucks most is the ground clearance and geometry

Still pissed that they put e-KDSS behind a paywall…
Тачка огонь, только вот ощущение такое что шумоизоляцию забыли положить🤔
Rained out? Is it capable or is it not?
This thing should have come with 17 wheels instead of 18.
I believe they have bigger brakes so 17 won't fit no more?
15' wheels would be even better.
Lexus or Land Cruiser?
Wow! what road is this?!!!
hell yeah what a crossover
Did Joe bring any Twinkies for the offroad trip?
Sunroof delete...option? You pay more for less?

21 us gal tank.
Official fuel tank capacity for 2024 lexus gx 550 is 21.1 gal and 2024 new land cruiser is only 17.9 gal.

There was zero need to lock the center diff lol
WHY CUP HOLDERS IN THE TRUNK
Ккруто они сделали ! Аппапат Зачетный ! Но v 8 не хватает !)
You made me want one as much as I want (not need) a G-Wagon 😂
Needss a third row
Please don’t zonk anything !
Bye 👋 bye 👋 Defender.
I think my mark x 2005 can also drive in this road. No need this car😂😂😂
❤
The hell lexus, what rout is that ?
Why do they not put real A/T tires on the new vehicles? Its always some pseudo-A/T tire. Is it that hard?
then customer will complain noise and bad mpg.
Because no one is taking their brand new luxury SUV offroad.
@@igeekone You missed the point. Many people go out and buy “real” A/T tires, but never go off-road. People still want the aesthetic of the real thing. Put real tires on from factory and charge the difference for them.
Bt big car power
Nothing like "bombing down a back road" in a $90k suv. Wtf has happened to the world?
It’s a huge improvement over the 460 but it’s already dated in comparison to the competition. I might as well stay in our 460.
Normal for a Toyota/Lexus product. Plenty of other options if someone wants the latest and greatest brand new tech that's going to malfunction and keep the car at the dealer. I wouldn't upgrade either if I was you.
You could do 90% of that in a bone stock '03 honda civic with crappy tires.
six minutes to get to the drive lol
Millions of miles of paved highway, and the trendiest vehicles are built for off-road.

Nice 4x4, just the front nose is awful ! The nose of the Landcruiser is nicer. 😊

That twin turbo high pitch whining is a major turnoff
That’s transfer case gear whine from being in 4 low. For some reason they made us go into 4 lo for this course 😄
Thanks for pointing it out
Nice review but I don't like the vehicle, is pretty ugly tbh
Do actual off road, these dirt roads are weak..
Ugliest SUVs I’ve ever seen
Hello frpm Fiat Multipla😂 Uggliest car, thanks a lot toyota😢
It’s still a boring car, the engine is not the same for the same price comparing to Land Cruiser 2021
Pointless marketing fluff video without real data driven insights
They make ugly cars these days! Why is that? Is this the end of the global auto industry?
