I just recently drove both. I have an old treasured 1996 Series 80 LC so I'm a fan in general. I did end up getting the GX550 OT+ however. I like the inside a bit better, but the main reason for me was the way they drove. The LC was ok, but the GX550 was a bit smoother from an acceleration point of view, and the ride was a bit better, felt a bit tighter and had less body roll on turns. I am sure I would have enjoyed both, but the GX seemed right for me.
Bro, the Land Cruiser has both 360 ‘birds eye’ cameras and the mirrors tilt down when you put in reverse (you have to push the button that lights up when engaged on the rear view mirror adjustment buttons. There’s also a manual fold button you can set on auto that folds the mirrors when you lock it and unfolds when you unlock. The buttons for the cameras are in diff places on the two different vehicles. I have a 2024 Land Cruiser and wife has a GX 550.
Cool, thanks. I guess I missed the mirrors thing when I was driving (or maybe it was turned off?) But I know they both have 360-degree cameras; I my point was that the Lexus' larger screen enhances it, not that it's unique. I pointed out the LC's 360 cameras too.
@johnrose7212 actual buttons? After test driving, both I ended up with the GX. The drive train is just better if you plan on keeping it long-term. Dealing with replacing the expensive batteries on a hybrid gets too expensive, plus all the extra electronics will be a headache. Luxury brands like BMW and Audi depreciate more but not Lexus whatsoever you still see used 98 Lexus LX470 with 300k plus miles going for 14k. Plus, GX are produced in lower numbers, so they will depreciate less.
LC actually has leather seats, GX used Tex vinyl. Screens actually same size when viewed as GX lower portion used for settings. LC better grill, mirrors also view down when in reverse and better mpg! Also when similar equipment LC about $8k less!
Got the GX 550 OT+ pretty happy with my purchase. Got it for under MSRP ( friends employee discount) after someone backed out. Already did the wescot design lvl lift and 34’s on 17 methods. Truck gets plenty of attention and is very nice on the trails

Yeah, it's such a tough choice. @@internetbrandsautogroup3826 I’ve owned a 5th gen 4Runner Trail new with KDSS and went to a 18 GX460 for the 3rd row. Loved both, GX much more refined. I ultimately went for the LC. There's lots to like with the GX though. For me, the mileage and interior layout were the main deciding factors. I like that the GX has less black plastic on the outside, the lower load floor would make loading my heavy cooler easier. That lower load floor would make the rear window tougher to use though. In my LC, I can reach through the window to the cargo floor, but just barely.

The GX should get the new hybrid engine that was just announced with the new LX570. These vehicles need to get at least 25-30MPG to make sense for long term ownership.
You’re not getting good mpg with a box boxy suv unless it’s ev. The land cruiser 4 cylinder hybrid achieves 20mpg avg real world, and that’s with non-trail tires.
Oh, man, post-pandemic I have no idea where the used market is going anymore, hahaha. Typically, I'd say used Toyota and Lexus offroaders do pretty well long term, I'm not sure one will be more popular than the other. But, time will tell.
You mentioned the Land Cruiser stereo was good but lacked bass. No mention of the 10 speaker standard stereo in Lexus. I really wanted to know if the GX Overtrail stock stereo was worth a damn.
I'd give an edge to the Lexus system, but not by a whole lot. They're both okay systems, but bass lovers and/or audiophiles will probably want to do some aftermarket upgrades. The Overtrail+ (I think?) also offers an upgraded Mark Levinson system, but even that isn't crazy good IMHO.
