I have recently driven both and the LX is certainly more luxurious and rides more smoothly. That’s not to say the GX is not comfortable but the interior of the LX is superior. The power train the GX was surprisingly more responsive in every drive mode. I prefer the exterior of the GX and in particular the Overtrail Plus. I haven't been interested in Lexus since they started with the hideous Predator mouth grill. The new GX550 is starting to go away from that look with the grill area looking more like an X than a spindle. If they stop with the incredible price inflation, I'd consider the 550. If more room is needed, I'd suggest saving a $40,000 and going for the Sequoia instead!
The lx is built better than gx. The frames control arms etc are different as well. Paint is thicker on lx. Interior of lx is higher quality. Glad to see the first real comparison between the 2. Wait for lx600 refresh and hybrid version. Lx infotainment is horrible and needs to be redone. The lx has safety 2.5 versus 3.0 on gx.
Lx also used aluminum panels vs the steel on gx550 . That could be why the weight is nearly the same. Better mpg is probably the bigger turbos and engine tuning on lx.
Thanks for the comparison, guys. As you did for the Grand Highlander vs. Sequoia, I would like to see a similar review for the TX vs. LX regarding getting more space for less money.
They don’t understand why Americans want Luxury and horsepower from a V8, for 100,000$ of their money. Like, no not trying to learns the power of small displacement turbo engines, in this huge tank for 100k.
Yes I really do not think the LX is worth the price tag considering how much features the GX has. I think they need to make the LX longer to make buyers want it. More cargo space can attract many luxury car buyers to want it vs the GX or the competition.
