Love this vehicle! Saw it once in person in a Lexus showroom many months ago. Road tripping is an essential function. Looking forward to what the aftermarket will offer this model.
Man, your commentaries are just the best! Love this GX. Can't wait to see what the hybrid variant is like.
Love the fact it has a shifter lever on the console and paddle shifters. And the fact it has a proper gauge cluster and a radio that's in the dash, not just 2 screens plastered on top of the dash. And really liking the square body. Overall fantastic vehicle. But that price is nuts. Great video as always.
Thanks for the suspension feedback, was hoping the eKDSS would provide a big difference vs the LC, but if it’s not a huge difference seems like the LC Sway disconnect will be fine with less future maintenance
I5 is under construction and is a noisy stretch through Orange County. The 550 was very quiet considering.
Just went to my local dealer and test drove their display 550 Premium Plus. I've never driven a body on frame so that was odd. However, putting it in sport, stiffens up steering so it felt better to me having never owned a truck. The fit and finish is great and the nuluxe interior is very soft, no need for leather and it lasts longer since it's man made as opposed to leather trim. Plenty of torque and speed. it is very smooth and quiet. i will say, in sport I did not enjoy the high shift point, but use the paddle shifters if that bugs you.
being in the desert the rain part 🌧 was most exciting ❤️... excellent review 🙏
Effortlessly stylish and timeless.
I love the new GX, this is the one I will get. BUT there are we reports of the main bearing failures on this engine on the LX. Gonna wait until they address that.
@@bluethundar now 2 months after your comment / concern it appears the recall is not including the GX 550 engine.
@CJ-rk5eg Too early yet they're just rolling off the dealership lots
@@bluethundar true but they were not included in the recall announcement
Love your reviews. I will be trading my 5Gen 4runner for this in the next few months...
Great decision - huge upgrade to something more sophisticated
Good luck finding one.
@@fishmojo865 I can wait, not big deal...In fact it is hard for me to let go of my 4Runner
Wish there was an option for a 3rd row… would be a perfect fit for my family
I agree
There is one other trims
agree... no 3rd row.. no sale
There are so many options for family shit now a days I don't understand what wouldn't make a perfect family oriented vehicle from any brand.
You wanna go off-roading with the whole family?
Better than a third row of seats...a third row of diff-locks!
This thing is so good looking!
My dream car. If I win a Ferrari I’ll sell it and buy one of these, and with the rest of the money I’ll go on an epic overland adventure in this magnificent SUV. DREAMS, DREAMS, DREAMS.
Love that road! I use to ride my motorcycle up there all the time going on the south grade up to Palomar Mountain!
Trying to read between all of the 250 platform tea leaves to see if it's worth splurging for a 1958 LC later this year or if I should grab an outgoing 5th Gen 4Runner with KDSS before it sunsets.
I wonder if adding vortex generators around wind nosies areas would make a difference in reduction.
Great car but the fact they are charging a subscription after the first 3 years for remote start and self driving is disgusting.
Wow that’s great to hear 23mpg on the highway at least is better than epa estimate. What speeds were you traveling?
God I love this rig. Thanks for posting!
why can't they update the interior of the IS models like this
2 best lexus, Lx and GX
We still get the "Real" landcruiser down here in the southern hemisphere and the LC300 isn't to far off the price point of this lexus. For the LC You get more car and features and from the looks of it better drive quality and power response. This car is beautiful though one of the best looking suvs if not the best. Just wondering if they could have done a bit more for its price.
I wish Lexus at the very least OFFERED a 3rd row on the Overtrail. It may not be necessary for everyone but some larger families with small kids like overlanding too.
Put a V8 into it, preferably with forced induction, and I'm sold.
Did you like this more than defender?
I already have a 2023 GX460 Premium, should I add a 2024 GX550 Overtrail+ ?
No
The second row, middle seat position does not seem to have very good foot spacing. Is that right? What is that bulge on the floor?
Do the new Gx550s have infotainment connectivity issues that 24 rx350s have? or did they fix it. I had a loaner and I would spend 10 minutes trying to connect to my bluetooth for music because it keeps shutting off and not re connecting. Something you didnt test.
Sad Reality: No Lexus dealer can assure a new or prospective GX 550 owner that the crankshaft main bearings of twin turbo V6 will be durable. If they are not durable the financial consequences to the owner could be catastrophic ($30,000 to replace an out of warranty engine + a $30,000 decrease in resale value.
A 2024 Land Cruiser is a safer purchase bet because it's turbo 4 cylinder has not had durability problem after 3 years of production.
This vehicle is recession proof
Planing to buy the 2025 version❤
Thanks for the video! Do you notice a difference in ride comfort between the premium and overtrail? Particularly on highways.
how would you compare the ride of this vs the new Land Cruiser?
17:20 thats unfortunate that EKDSS is not as sharp on turns as KDSS on previous gen.
This looks my hometown of Santa Barbara and the San Marcos pass up to the valley.
They started off in Irvine/Lake Forest. They ended up on 79 in San Diego County.
Any idea the cabin s8ze vs. the 5th gen 4runner?? Im curious, I think it shows 9" wider, but I think that's mostly fender flares...😂
I have a 2023 GX with the V8. Is the new one better?
I regret buying grand cherokee after watching this video ,, 1000% it will be the next one
I like the exterior styling and the simple interior of the Land Cruiser better. But the hybrid 4 banger is the weak point. Not only is it a smaller engine but the battery pack eats into the cargo area quite a bit. Now it only makes a little less power when paired with the hybrid system but the engine still makes about 280 hp by itself. Out of a 2.4 liter which sounds impressive but what I hear is the overstressed components screaming in pain. A regular naturally aspirated 2.4 would probably make somewhere around 160-180 hp. So in order to get 280 hp out of it you really have to turn up the boost. Then you generate a lot of heat which has to be dealt with. Once common way they do this is by having thinner cylinder walls with slits in them and a larger water jacket. Thinner walls + high boost = problems. Plus you have all the issues associated with turbo engines. Carbon buildup on valves, lower compression and rich mixture which hurts efficiency, high heat which stresses everything especially gaskets and added complexity. Now a 3.4 liter non turbo V6 would make somewhere around 270-300 hp. So bumping it up to 350 hp is not that much of an increase which means low boost. Still not as reliable as a naturally aspirated V6 but much better than the 2.4 I4 turbo. If Toyota put the V6 in the Land Cruiser it would be perfect. Or a turbo diesel I4. Diesels have much thicker cylinder walls and more durable components in general so they can handle lots of boost.
I wanted this for the wife but the wife wanted a Land Cruiser FE so we have a LC
I so wish Lexus would put a v8 in this GX
The 2025 hybrid version will (most likely) have more horsepower, more torque, better mpg, and an engine that takes regular fuel. Are there any reasons to get this? Or should I wait?
You'll be waiting a while for the hybrid. Probably 2026, 2027
@@RupakShakur is that confirmed? I heard it’s coming for the 2025 model
@jonhyzy9624 The dealership I went to said they'll only be making a handful a year and that It'll be very difficult getting it the first few years. I saw the waitlist for the new gx (which I'm on) and it was very long.
This is Porsche macan territory in terms of price. I wouldn’t be spending 80k on a Lexus unless it’s an LC
I just don’t think this is really worth the money it’s asking. I paid about half for my 2020 rav4 xse and this doesn’t blow it out of the water or anything.
Review the Mercedes CLE 450 and or the CLE 53 Please❤❤❤
Does the driver alert sensor thing give off a reflection of your face while driving?
not just camera
Is there only 1 air vent per passenger up front??
seems you are in Irvine
What do you think…. This or a X5 50E?
How big are the speed bumps at the shopping mall?
How narrow are the streets at the shopping plaza?
My assessment is based on what I observed at the Auto Show in California. For comparing this SUV, I recommend examining others. To attend, both my wife and I had to pay a $30 fee, and I was particularly eager to personally see the Lexus GX due to the hype surrounding it as a large off-road SUV.
Before I outline the positives and negatives, I want to express my anticipation spanning decades for the GX to unveil a new design. However, I am disappointed with what I encountered.
Pros:
* The shape is commendable, featuring a perfect boxy design akin to competitors such as the Defender, Jeep Cherokee, and GMC.
* While the central infotainment system is not groundbreaking, it maintains consistency with other Lexus models, which is acceptable.
*
Cons:
* There are numerous drawbacks. The model I viewed exceeded $77k and lacked the ML sound system.
* The absence of a panoramic sunroof, now a standard feature in modern vehicles, detracts from the luxurious experience.
* The panoramic sunroof in the Luxury+ model is underwhelming and seems to mimic the idea from the Venza, which has been on the market for over six years.
* The quality of leather and interior falls short compared to other SUVs in the same price range. Even the Toyota Highlander boasts superior interior quality.
* The exterior feels excessively plastic, particularly upon contact with the bumper, hood, and other body panels.
* Leather quality across all trims is subpar.
* Fuel economy poses a significant issue in 2024, averaging only 17 mpg.
* Many materials exude a cheap feel, failing to deliver a luxurious experience.
* If one opts for all available options on the Lexus GX 550, it may be preferable to choose the LX 600, which offers a higher level of luxury and power.
* For a better depiction of luxury, consider examining the Infiniti QX80: ruclips.net/video/NMzD7nLQlDY/видео.html
I've been a longtime enthusiast of this SUV, but now, even surpassing $80k plus tax, it's hardly worth the investment. In 2024, there's a myriad of alternative options I've contemplated, including the Ford F150 Electric, Rivian, Cybertruck, GMC Denali AT4, Sequoia, and the Volkswagen Atlas Off-Road version, among others, boasting advanced technology and commendable qualities.
Toyota and Lexus seem to be marketing very basic vehicles under the guise of reliability. Many individuals I conversed with at the auto show shared my sentiment that the GX 550 pales in comparison to the 460 in terms of quality, feeling cheaply constructed.
This SUV no longer epitomizes luxury, not by a long shot. If you disregard reliability and juxtapose it against brands like BMW, Audi, and Land Rover, it's disheartening to witness its decline.
Purchasing this vehicle entails enduring it for another six years solely to mitigate depreciation, while numerous other automakers are already introducing superior and more advanced technology.
At present, I must explore alternative options, as this SUV is not worth $85k out of the door, if you're fortunate enough.
Best wishes with your new purchase. Just bear in mind, I've encountered numerous instances of Toyota dealers leveraging social media to generate interest in these vehicles.
In conclusion, this is merely my perspective. Enjoy your new purchase
10:05 why you stopping it's not a stop sign just go people.
I guess you didn't see the long line of cars coming from the left.
Lol are you blind dude
He was being safe and watching for the traffic he has to merge with. Then using the rest of the merge lane to accelerate. He would have to accelerate IN the actual traffic lane had he not left room to accelerate in the merge lane. I think it is well done.
Does it ride as nice on the highway as a 460?
second that question
Can we get a watch ID?
Now lets see if it will have the same wheel bearing issue as the tundras and Lx600/LC300
would rather have a german competitor tbh like a x5 or GLE. There superior in every dynamic way except reliability right?
I’d do an x5 with the B58; it actually has better ground clearance than the base premium and luxury GX550, reliability is good for a German car and the on road dynamics, performance and fuel economy is much better than the GX550. I’d avoid the MB.
You don't seem like the target buyer for this car if you care about "dynamic" attributes. The GX is essentially a truck.
This cant really be compared to any of the german SUVs, an X5 or a GLE are basically lifted sedans, luxury crossovers, the GX is a truck, body on frame, it's more of a Land Rover Defender competitor.
Beware of the V6 engine
But why do all the overstrails have olive green interior trim 🤢
What's with the orange Toyota pickup following you?
That’s Substitute Topher!
Pretty cool impressions on the LEXUS GX 550 OVERTRAIL PLUS 😮 ❤ 😊 IF THE JAPANESE LEXUS BRANDS COULD MAKE IT WITH MORE TORQUES AND HORSE POWERS SUCH AS THE 5.2 LITRES V8 ENGINE 699 HORSEPOWER AND/OR 6.3 LITRES V12 ENGINE 800 HORSEPOWER IN THIS VERSION COULD BE MORE AFFORDABLE AGAIN
For me the Lexus feels way to cheap compared to the Defender 130
If they cared about reliability they would have kept a naturally aspirated engine
That V8 engine was great only thing is that it’s inefficient and doesn’t meet epa standards anymore that’s why they switched to a V6 TT
Knowing how conservative the Japanese are, if it weren’t for emission laws, they would’ve chosen to stay with the old V8 if they wanted to.
We just have to vote differently next time, and maybe we’ll get our good old reliable NA engines back.
@@BigAltimaEnergy719 why is it some manufacturers are still making V-8 engines?
@@SpeedisSpeed They make V8s but they put some stupid shit on there like Cylinder Deactivation, Direct injection, forced induction like Twin Turbos and superchargers, and other stuff that could shorten the life of the engine, Toyota has always kept simple their V8s by not implementing those things that’s why they last so long
@@BigAltimaEnergy719 what does the sierra 1500 6.2 have on it?
Too much money for what is essentially no larger than a 5G 4Runner. A twin turbo V6 that has a history of crank bearing failures. Tons more electro-nannies that will beep at you for seemingly no reason. And the topper: having to deal with the “new” manufacturer/dealership model of poaching the customer with dealer-installed crap, crazy mark-ups, and just generally a sour buying experience. Oh and let’s not forget about the mostly crummy dealer service departments, whose philosophy is to sell unnecessary service and perform mediocre work. Add in the crazy high insurance rates and keeping my old 5G 4R is an easy decision. I don’t know why automakers think the entire buying population wants cars loaded up with touch screens and soft keys, lane keep assist and blah blah blah. Oh and don’t forget the premium fuel - you just might detonate a cylinder. Rant over!
Is it noisy when you drive in highway or just me
No thanks -I’ll keep my 23 Gx
8.9 inches on the most off-road “capable” version lol meanwhile a new Prius literally has 8.0 inches of ground clearance. Look it up.😅
Prius has 5.5” of ground clearance
He don't like Lexus obviously 😅...The best Suv ever
Toyota and Lexus are dead to me. I hate the new gx. Make it cheaper, ready to break and charge more!
Perez Timothy Jackson Christopher Hernandez Donna
Wayyyy too expensive for what it is
It's a luxury SUV specced for off-roading. Not to mention Inflation.
You’re wayyyyyy too broke
@@97Crazysteve inflation is what is killing it
What does it compare to? Really...it's long term well built vehicle that's being sold in a time of high inflation.
Oversll average price of new vehicles is now $48k
And that’s not even including the $30,000 dealer markups
Cost to much money ant worth it plus it’s got a v6
Wilson Laura Hall Amy Lee Anthony
Another garbage and overpriced SUV that will be bought by the same people that complain about eggs being expensive.
Not garbage, very capable SUVs off-road, built in Toyota's legendary Tahara plant in Japan.
early
Kinda dark interior? It's a sea of black.. yuk. Lexus do better.
Interior looks basic. Lexus use to have their own personal luxury touch compared to Toyota interiors. The new lx Literally looks like a copy and paste version of the new Tacoma interior
