    Love the fact it has a shifter lever on the console and paddle shifters. And the fact it has a proper gauge cluster and a radio that's in the dash, not just 2 screens plastered on top of the dash. And really liking the square body. Overall fantastic vehicle. But that price is nuts. Great video as always.

    Just went to my local dealer and test drove their display 550 Premium Plus. I've never driven a body on frame so that was odd. However, putting it in sport, stiffens up steering so it felt better to me having never owned a truck. The fit and finish is great and the nuluxe interior is very soft, no need for leather and it lasts longer since it's man made as opposed to leather trim. Plenty of torque and speed. it is very smooth and quiet. i will say, in sport I did not enjoy the high shift point, but use the paddle shifters if that bugs you.

    I like the exterior styling and the simple interior of the Land Cruiser better. But the hybrid 4 banger is the weak point. Not only is it a smaller engine but the battery pack eats into the cargo area quite a bit. Now it only makes a little less power when paired with the hybrid system but the engine still makes about 280 hp by itself. Out of a 2.4 liter which sounds impressive but what I hear is the overstressed components screaming in pain. A regular naturally aspirated 2.4 would probably make somewhere around 160-180 hp. So in order to get 280 hp out of it you really have to turn up the boost. Then you generate a lot of heat which has to be dealt with. Once common way they do this is by having thinner cylinder walls with slits in them and a larger water jacket. Thinner walls + high boost = problems. Plus you have all the issues associated with turbo engines. Carbon buildup on valves, lower compression and rich mixture which hurts efficiency, high heat which stresses everything especially gaskets and added complexity. Now a 3.4 liter non turbo V6 would make somewhere around 270-300 hp. So bumping it up to 350 hp is not that much of an increase which means low boost. Still not as reliable as a naturally aspirated V6 but much better than the 2.4 I4 turbo. If Toyota put the V6 in the Land Cruiser it would be perfect. Or a turbo diesel I4. Diesels have much thicker cylinder walls and more durable components in general so they can handle lots of boost.

    We still get the "Real" landcruiser down here in the southern hemisphere and the LC300 isn't to far off the price point of this lexus. For the LC You get more car and features and from the looks of it better drive quality and power response. This car is beautiful though one of the best looking suvs if not the best. Just wondering if they could have done a bit more for its price.

      @paulbugoni2846 23 дня назад

      I’d do an x5 with the B58; it actually has better ground clearance than the base premium and luxury GX550, reliability is good for a German car and the on road dynamics, performance and fuel economy is much better than the GX550. I’d avoid the MB.

    • @ARentz07
      @ARentz07 23 дня назад +1

      @ZoomZoom356 20 дней назад

      This cant really be compared to any of the german SUVs, an X5 or a GLE are basically lifted sedans, luxury crossovers, the GX is a truck, body on frame, it's more of a Land Rover Defender competitor.

  • @Chris-bl5fs
    @Chris-bl5fs 21 день назад

    Too much money for what is essentially no larger than a 5G 4Runner. A twin turbo V6 that has a history of crank bearing failures. Tons more electro-nannies that will beep at you for seemingly no reason. And the topper: having to deal with the “new” manufacturer/dealership model of poaching the customer with dealer-installed crap, crazy mark-ups, and just generally a sour buying experience. Oh and let’s not forget about the mostly crummy dealer service departments, whose philosophy is to sell unnecessary service and perform mediocre work. Add in the crazy high insurance rates and keeping my old 5G 4R is an easy decision. I don’t know why automakers think the entire buying population wants cars loaded up with touch screens and soft keys, lane keep assist and blah blah blah. Oh and don’t forget the premium fuel - you just might detonate a cylinder. Rant over!

    My assessment is based on what I observed at the Auto Show in California. For comparing this SUV, I recommend examining others. To attend, both my wife and I had to pay a $30 fee, and I was particularly eager to personally see the Lexus GX due to the hype surrounding it as a large off-road SUV.
    Before I outline the positives and negatives, I want to express my anticipation spanning decades for the GX to unveil a new design. However, I am disappointed with what I encountered.
    Pros:
    * The shape is commendable, featuring a perfect boxy design akin to competitors such as the Defender, Jeep Cherokee, and GMC.
    * While the central infotainment system is not groundbreaking, it maintains consistency with other Lexus models, which is acceptable.
    *
    Cons:
    * There are numerous drawbacks. The model I viewed exceeded $77k and lacked the ML sound system.
    * The absence of a panoramic sunroof, now a standard feature in modern vehicles, detracts from the luxurious experience.
    * The panoramic sunroof in the Luxury+ model is underwhelming and seems to mimic the idea from the Venza, which has been on the market for over six years.
    * The quality of leather and interior falls short compared to other SUVs in the same price range. Even the Toyota Highlander boasts superior interior quality.
    * The exterior feels excessively plastic, particularly upon contact with the bumper, hood, and other body panels.
    * Leather quality across all trims is subpar.
    * Fuel economy poses a significant issue in 2024, averaging only 17 mpg.
    * Many materials exude a cheap feel, failing to deliver a luxurious experience.
    * If one opts for all available options on the Lexus GX 550, it may be preferable to choose the LX 600, which offers a higher level of luxury and power.
    * For a better depiction of luxury, consider examining the Infiniti QX80: ruclips.net/video/NMzD7nLQlDY/видео.html
    I've been a longtime enthusiast of this SUV, but now, even surpassing $80k plus tax, it's hardly worth the investment. In 2024, there's a myriad of alternative options I've contemplated, including the Ford F150 Electric, Rivian, Cybertruck, GMC Denali AT4, Sequoia, and the Volkswagen Atlas Off-Road version, among others, boasting advanced technology and commendable qualities.
    Toyota and Lexus seem to be marketing very basic vehicles under the guise of reliability. Many individuals I conversed with at the auto show shared my sentiment that the GX 550 pales in comparison to the 460 in terms of quality, feeling cheaply constructed.
    This SUV no longer epitomizes luxury, not by a long shot. If you disregard reliability and juxtapose it against brands like BMW, Audi, and Land Rover, it's disheartening to witness its decline.
    Purchasing this vehicle entails enduring it for another six years solely to mitigate depreciation, while numerous other automakers are already introducing superior and more advanced technology.
    At present, I must explore alternative options, as this SUV is not worth $85k out of the door, if you're fortunate enough.
    Best wishes with your new purchase. Just bear in mind, I've encountered numerous instances of Toyota dealers leveraging social media to generate interest in these vehicles.
    In conclusion, this is merely my perspective. Enjoy your new purchase
