In Australia it looks like we only get three grades - our overtrail being a mix of overtrail and overtrail plus. I don't live in the outback anymore so diesel vs petrol is less of a thing. The only concern I have is fuel tank capacity.

I think it sort of proved my theory about how much easier it is to get through there with it, then w/out it.

  • @jamisonjamisonx
    @jamisonjamisonx 8 месяцев назад +8

I love the new GX...I often daydream of a hybrid powered version (or even the current twin-turbo version would be amazing)...and I start thinking of what body parts I can sell to get one. but, gotta say, I'm not in love with the pop-out rear glass. My current 5th gen 4Runner (and I think all 4Runners) have rear glass that rolls down with a button on the center console and by putting the key in the tailgate and turning it (left down, right up). It's awesome, and I often roll the rear glass down to give my pups some fresh air or just whenever it's a beautiful 70ish degrees outside and I can. I've even rolled it down on the freeway at 75mph and I could barely even perceive any difference in sound. it's just really cool. The tech exists, it's been around on 4Runners since Napoleon. I get the pop-out glass is cheaper, but this is a lexus...cheaper isn't exactly the point. Not sure why, but I fully expected the new GX and Land Cruiser to have roll down rear glass...it makes me a little sad that they don't, but I guess happy that I have what I have and get to keep all my body parts.

Also, if someone was to get a Land Cruiser (North American) over a GX 550 Overtrail Becuase of rock sliders from the factory it would be the dumbest decision ever 😂. The GX 550 Overtrail is much better than the North American Land Cruiser. So few years ago I ws looking to replace my awesome mildly lifted 2012 4Runner as I had grew bored with it, like I do with many vehicles - Hey at least I admit I have a problem lol. I had wanted a new bronco, but after looking at them that changed. So I figured I would wait, sold the 4runner to a buddy and bought the wife a Explorer ST. This new GX550 is now my next vehicle as I prefer its non hybrid drivetrain over the LC. It will be interesting to see what Toyota does with the new 4Runner coming later 24/early 25.

    Are you doing the Ineos?

We've put feelers out with them, but don't have anything scheduled yet.

Ok, I'm sold! But you didn't lie down in the back? Is the back with the seats down flat? Can you sleep in it? I wanted a Tundra with a pop up camper shell, but that's going to cost as much as this Lexus.

So approach and departure angles never became a problem?

Thanks for the video! Are those factory rated recovery points or are they just tie down points? (they look like just tie downs, which in 4runner manual they say not to use as recovery points)

    • @drivingsports

They are recovery points according to Lexus

@@drivingsports as in rated recovery points (where they state the working load limit they are rated for)? Or do they just say they are "emergency tow eyelets" (which shouldn't be used for offroad recovery) in the manual? Thanks again!

Rock rails are an OEM port-installed option available on any GX 550. Mine is having them pre-installed before being brought to my dealer!

I’m sure it’s going to appeal to a new audience but I believe they are abandoning their current upper middle class female owners.

Likely, that is the audience that the new TX was created for.

@@drewk8601agree we went with an Audi Q7 back when my wife was shopping for a car as the GX road like the body on frame vehicle it is. The TX is a much better family hauler in my opinion with better ride.

Thinking women will like the TX more. But my wife is an off-roader and she loves the macho looks.

Would a higher suspension or beefier tires make a difference? Would a hybrid come out in Overtrail plus or only in a luxury? I have an old Rx, but am looking to upgrade soon.

How do you think this compares to the Wagoneer Series III in terms of off-road capability?

I have one reserved. I'm 29 years old now, have a new excellent medical career, and owned two 5th gen 4Runners over the past 11 years, dislike the current GX, so happy to FINALLY be getting a trustworthy 4x4 that is actually modern lol
