I've had mine for about 2 months now and average 12.5L/100km. Can comfortably get 550km from a tank before the fuel light comes on, with mixed highway and urban driving with the AC on - but driving on Eco mode. The fuel consumption got better after the engine was broken in. My guess is these guys test drove the car before engine was broken in.
They have been rolling deliveries out to customers at the same time as getting the press fleet up and running, so there is a fair few on the road already. - Sam
Yes, saw a black one at Brooklyn bridge on M1 & a grey one on GWH just near Bathurst on 10th September, thought holy shit, they'd only just been released. To see two in one day in a single trip, I said to myself this will sell well, possibly the most relevant Lexus to hit Aussie roads & trails. I like it myself.
Why do you say this is "neck and neck" with the Land Rover? This is far more capable. The axle crossing alone puts the LR to shame, which has none, especially with the suspension on the highest level.
I had just ordered my 3rd Landcruiser, a 300 series, until i saw the LX . I was excited to test drive one today and had the thought this was my new car. I was so disappointed after the test drive with the lean the car had through corners , my current 200 is way more stable through corners . Felt like i was sitting on a angle all the time . Has anyone experienced the same ? Everything else about the car was great .
I think the traction control is working even when the rear is locked. Atleast it is designed to do that. Might be subjective to what off road mode the tester has selected.
On road I heard a bit of banging and clanging which I thought was unusual considering you are using LAV mic. Is the car noiser than a Defender on a pot hole road ?
Couldn’t be bothered with the wait time. Would’ve liked the off road version but can’t get it in 7 seat config alas. Got a defender instead and not regretting decision.
The last few times we've tested the 300 Series saw us record consumption of 10.5 to 12.5L/100km against a claim of 8.9L/100km. Although the conditions weren't an exact match for what you see here, they are still close. Every situation is a little different, but we'd expect the diesel LandCruiser to be more efficient back-to-back with the GX.
@@Drivecomau I’m in a bit of a pickle. My country here in Central America sells the Land Cruiser 300 Gr sport but it’s 200k USD after import duty and dealer markups. Then the new Prado 250 diesel only comes with a center locker unlike other markets that get a rear locker. Base model or luxury model with the TV on the roof in the back. My dealer says they can order anything for me including Lexus models since there isn’t a Lexus dealer here. The GX overtrail comes with a rear locker as well. The only downside is the gas consumption being I dive city stop and go most of the time.
Why is there driveshaft tunnel when it’s body on frame? Even my 1998 LC105 has a flat floor for the middle rear passenger 😢 Cars seems progressively worse gradually over the years.
Sam, why such a delay in testing a Tank 500 off road? I'm hanging out for it as would be many more. Certainly a contender for this classification as similar size to LC 300 & GX550. Im truly curious to get your input on it, bring it on, please. Pretty Please, if that helps sway you. 😁😁 Wealie.
Looks good in this colour, that windscreen is going to be prone to stone chips being so upright, the rear looks like an old Mitsubishi Challenger, I think for the price the interior is disappointing little too much cheap plastic
@@michaelmo6575 Don't be such a fan boy, Toyota has recalled over 98,600 Tundras and 3,500 Lexus LX SUVs. The recall involves non-hybrid versions of the 3.4-liter V-6 twin-turbocharged engines, as hybrid models are not affected due to their additional electric motor that can take over in case of engine failure. The investigation began in March 2022, Toyota discovered the main engine bearings had seized, and as more cases came in, it became apparent that machining debris in the engines was causing the failures. By 2023, the company had received 166 technical reports and 824 warranty claims related to this problem, leading to the recall. Even engines that initially seemed fine showed signs of the defect upon further inspection. The recall, which involves replacing over 100,000 engines
in everyday driving I can confirm that it doesn’t consume as much, I reckon that consumption is for when it’s doing relatively heavy off road, but it’s still a thirsty car nevertheless

That's a sleek brown snake at 0:40.😮
We didn’t see it on the day, only looking back on the footage!
It's massive
i just paused to comment that haha. i spotted it too. holy fuckin moly.
Good spotting.
It only just clears track in time also, otherwise it would have been very visible thrashing around with tyre on its tail.
I recognize the area in the Blue mountains .Place is full of them these days.
Great video, wish Ronny Dahl would do a vid of its off road capability
I always watch your review videos first. Keep up the great content! Thank you
Thanks for the support Johnny!
I was waiting for his review too!
Imagine if this had the same V6 diesel engine as the LC300
Same chassis and wheelbase as 300 but with factory locked and swaybar disconnect. All cheaper than open diff 300 with much better interior.
Only thing this is missing is an option of diesel under the bonnet, but I agree with you 100% - Sam
@@Drivecomauwhy does a diesel matter? I’ve got a diesel at the moment. Curious why not petrol for a 4x4.
@@Itsme-zq3etthe fuel consumption. When your off the beaten path you don’t want to worry about needing fuel all the time.
Also low end torque when off-roading.
I have seen three this week, have been curious to know more about them. Not a vehicle for me but still good to know what I am seeing out on the road.

You might be right, I think. It's well tuned and hard to pick up from in the driver's seat. But it's impressively capable off-road. - Sam
Tom, when do you think the Prado 2024 review will be out?
Not sure who Tom is, but hoping to have Prado by the end of the year - Sam
wish i could have one thay are the best
Disappointing Overtrail doesn’t come in a 7 seater. I’d love to see a video testing the off-road capability of the base model please.
There is no front differential isn’t it?
On road I heard a bit of banging and clanging which I thought was unusual considering you are using LAV mic. Is the car noiser than a Defender on a pot hole road ?
Good looking but approach angle is low.

Which is better in terms of fuel consumption, the LC300 Diesel or this twin turbo v6 in the GX?

GX550 or LC300?
gas or diesel ? get gas GX550 and no LC300 in the U.S,
I think you cant get landcruiser in the US

awesome vehicle. the US landcruiser haha

100% agree, exactly as I see it, the original challenger from behind, except this would be taller.
Feels better when you sit inside one. But I agree to look at it gives that impression.
Lets see how the engine goes, there's been a lot of failures in the US in the Tundra, Landcruiser and Lexus
No there hasn’t. Just tundra. Don’t be a troll

@@-PORK-CHOP- It's manufacturing contamination... so anything new is not affected.
Looks much better than the Prado. But 18 l per 100 km fuel consumption is atrocious
so is the price...lol
200series diesel wasn’t far off from that in the real world.

Possibly worst case scenario of off-roading and urban driving, but we did punch along the highway for a bit as well - Sam
What figures are you getting? And what spec do you have? - Sam
STOP the frames @.41 seconds. Have a look in front of that Lexus......continue play, yep it is(almost star of the show)!!!
I'm glad we didn't flatten it!
Fuel consumption crap plus 75ish useable litres of fuel. Hook up any trailer and it’s likely 25l per 100km. I ask…..”why”
You'd prefer a diesel LC300, Defender or Grenadier for towing, definitely. But this thing has a lot of torque and performance
Where's the diesel? Disappointing
In the LandCruiser 300 Series, but the GX will get a more efficient petrol hybrid at some stage. - Sam
Lost me at the price
All the begging and ads are a put off... NO THUMBS UP
