I love that he more often than not, takes the time to be polite and respond, just for the sake of responding. I'm building my laundry list of things I'd love to ask. Great tip on the Adobe Neutral. I just bought a R6MKII (coming from a Sony A7III) and I like everything about it more than the Sony except the image quality... until now. I find the R6MKII just crushes blacks and blows out highlights when importing in Adobe Color and even Adobe Standard. Makes for this overly contrasty image with no shadow or highlight detail. Switch to Adobe Neutral and it looks beautifully natural with plenty of detail. I think a lot of people overlook this setting.

Tomorrow will be the big test (EOS R, was the prior camera, now the backup). I had the R, for 5 years and put 297k photos on it, lol. Before that it was the 1DX for 7 years. All weddings. Hi Ely, I believe you can have the R5 track the same way the R6ii does, it's just a setting you need to enable. AF menu 5, Initial Servo AF pt for face tracking, you'll want to swap from auto to the first option. It needs to be set to the first option, and in wide area focus. Great video!

    It's amazing Canon didn't incorporate a mode dial lock button on the R6II, a camera that is obviously aimed at the prosumer and pro user groups. Also don't like that they moved the on/off. Maybe there was a design requirement that drove the change but control familiarity between models is no small consideration, especially when you're mixing bodies in the same shoot.

    I'm new to the channel and this is an excellent video! Just a quick remark, I think you can enable classical AF on the R6II without tracking as well. I agree! Another quick question: The start-up times you showed for the R5 vs R6II, are they card dependent? I have heard that the R6II is quite fast, but the R5 seems to be noticeably slower. I don't shoot weddings but I do shoot birds/wildlife, and while a 45MP reach is nice, it seems like the R6II offers more bells and whistles in that regard (faster startup, pre-capture, slightly better AF).

    • @ThePhotographerGuy
      @ThePhotographerGuy  Год назад +1

      The colors on the Fuji seem to have a larger range. they're both great but canon seems to be a bit stuck on warm tones, which can be great for weddings and families. Fuji is really dependent on the Profile you choose in LR. I just use Astia/Soft and work from there.

    • @m0nztam0nk
      @m0nztam0nk Год назад

      @@ThePhotographerGuy thank you for the answer. Ive found (comparing Sony, Fuji, Canon side by side) that the color nuances/strengths & weaknesses are actually not easy to match or correct. Worst culprit imo is Sony with its harsh color contrast really overexaggerating greens, reds and yellows which leaves skintones to be rather muted… Fuji does it best with near flawless skin- & greentones but seems to suffer in bright yellow evening light…Canon i havent tested in summer so i have a more negative view on canon than i feel what would be fair…
      I know, with advanced colorediting i can match them all, but Sony consumes too much time to get there and now im either going with Canon or fuji in the future… i just wished fuji had a Fullframe camera then it would be easy…

    Hello. Thankyou for this video. I bought the r6ii (coming from a Nikon), shot a couple of weddings this season but the photos are lacking sharpness. I use the canon rf 35mm f1.8 - the pictures are not sharp neither the white balance settings are working for me. The pictures are more towards pink tint. Also the focus does catch fast but moves alot, when i touch the screen to focus, the focus square does not stay on one spot, it keeps moving esp when i shoot details, Idk if its just me or the lens is a problem. Your pictures are waaaaaay way sharper than mine.

    I am shopping for a new Canon. I was debating the R62 or the R3 with new sales.. I decided on the R3 but you just said it is too big and rather use the R62? I dont get how it is too big but maybe I like bigger bodies like I used my 1Dx. Felt like a tank. I have an R6 that does not excite me and my R7 is the second one since this second is going back to Canon as well. Bad luck with R7 giving my mostly soft images? So you confused me now. What is your favorite wedding lens. I shoot basketball and deciding between the RF28-70 f2 verses the RF 85 f1.2?. Thanks for the video.

      @ThePhotographerGuy  11 месяцев назад

      The R3 was too big for me because I use 2-3 cameras on a wedding day. If you are only using one camera then that wouldn't really affect you. I would get the 28-70 over an 85mm 1.2. But that's just me.

So very rarely turn off the power unless expecting an extended lull.

    Couple of questions I have, Do you shoot in manual or Av mode 😊. Also, I shoot the R5 and I have my front button set to single point, and my back button to eye focus. What exactly are you doing differently? Also, sometimes I’ll just switch to eye af. And I let it pick up an eye, and move with the joystick to which ever eye I want to be on. When you say it doesn’t track, do you mean you tap or put the square on something and it tracks it wherever you go? And are you saying that the R5 cannot do that? I hope I asked this right. lol

    • @ThePhotographerGuy
      @ThePhotographerGuy  8 месяцев назад

      The R5 Tracks but not anywhere as well as the R6 II. I have my buttons set up the same. The R6 II will over track when you have subject detect on. I turn off the Subject Detect on the R6 II so that I have more control over my focus point.
      for example. If i want to focus on something that is not a face and there is a face in the screen. The camera will chose the face and not my focus point with subject detect on.
      I'm always using manual.

    I'm new to mirrorless, so I have a question about AF from your timestamp at 6:27, if you want to focus on something that isn't a face, ie. ring, flowers, etc. how come you don't turn off Eye Detection, Subject Detection, and Servo Full Screen Tracking instead of just Subject Detection? Isn't it also redundant to have a button for Eye Detection/Tracking, and also have it also doing Eye Detection from your shutter button?

      Press AF point selection button (originally configured) and then move with joystick. It should work if other configuration isn't overlap

    Thanks for the comprehensive review. Could you add a couple of points about the differences with the R6? Why not stay with the camera that was a good work horse for you. Thank you.

      @@ThePhotographerGuy Hi, if you do have a moment to give a couple of pointers about why the original R6 no longer meets your needs that would be appreciated. Thank you

      Sure. R6 II is a much better camera when it comes to AF and ergonomics. It has 4 more megapixels and will be easier to resell when the R5 II come out. I took two OG R6's to just under 200,000 clicks then it was time for me to try out the R3 and R6 II. I photographed almost 100 weddings with the OG R6. It did great, but I like trying new gear.

    The 600 Canon or 530 flash will not work on the r-6 II with out an adapter. Canon screw up in my opinion.

      Interesting. I've only used Godox flashes with them.

    Wich color profile do you use to get Natural colors when you shoot product with Fujifilm?

      I'm using Astia/Soft with Fuji. I have to tone down saturation but love it.

    You mentioned Boise in the video. Made a trip that way in 2013 and ate some of the best Italian I've ever had at a place called Asiago's. Just looked it up and see that's it's closed permanently. :-/ That's a shame. Made it to McCall to film my first wedding (on top of Brundage). Just amazing country!

      That's awesome. Idaho has some amazing landscape. We were in Stanley in a hot spring and it was -7 degrees. Pretty crazy.

      @@ThePhotographerGuy - Ely, would you say the photo dynamic range (especially when pushing shadows/pulling highlights) is any better on the R5 over the R6mkii?
      After shooting Nikon for photos and getting used to my D810s superb dynamic range, and using a Canon 90D for video work, the time has arrived to get serious about going to one cam to do both and use the 90D as the second angle on vid shoots. I know the R5/R6 won't match the photo DR of the D810, but if I can at least get somewhat close - the video they provide are just so much better than Nikon.
      You've gained another sub, btw. Good info and channel!

    Great review with one correction only . If you want your R6 to not take a picture without a card - the menus selection - camera- page 8 - should be OFF. In your tutorial you said it should be ON.
    Thanks so much for all your expertise and hard work putting this video together .
