Cheap GFX Sigma EF 50mm F1.4 option
I shoot with the Mk1 and Mk2 and its driving me bloody insane.
Shooting automotive and some portraits with the R5ii . . . the R5ii COMPARED TO THE ORIGINAL R5, just doesn't have the dynamic range I need. At major car events and Concourse d'Elegance, the best photo time is often before the gates open at usually 9:00 a.m. The light is fine, but isn't strong. With the original R5, early morning shoots are never a problem. Beautiful images. But with the R5ii . . . noise. Same lens. Same locations. Noise. So as much as I love the R5ii, I'm selling and buying a new original R5. The R5 just works better for me.
I have good experience with third party batteries. Specifically with a specific brand. I have a Canon 5d mark4 camera and bought a Jupio battery. It is a Dutch brand and comes with a 3 year warranty. The original Canon battery (LP-EN6) is 1865 mAh, the JUPIO is slightly more powerful at 2040 mAh and lasts longer. I didn't count, I didn't test it, but it can handle it noticeably better. I bought the JUPIO battery more than 4 years ago and it is still in good condition. Nevertheless, I am careful and that is why I watch these videos. Now I have a Canon R6 II camera, which would be nice to have a spare battery, I might try the Jupio again because it has worked so far.
What can I say! Awesome video! I’ll get a 100s 2 next year!
Thanks!
just wow

Thanks for all the work you have done on trying ef lenses… after switching from canon to nikon to sony and now to fuji gfx i had hundreds of lenses … some that I also had with canon/nikon seem to be real gems for the gfx system - may I ask you if you tried a side by side bokeh test with the 110gf ? 1.4 to 2.0 is a difference but how about lemon shaped bokeh ? Any issues with chromatia a… ? The fringer is surely fun but more when you still have ef lenses - I just got my 100sii and the 20-35mm and was thinking of adding the 55/80/110/250 and a 45-100 to keep it simple for travel (20-35+45-100) - would love to add a 24mm EF 1.4 lens but for astro edge to edge sharpness is important… anyway thanks for testing for us ! P.s. have I seen right that you have a great dane?
can you use the Godox v1 with the electronic shutter on the 5 ii?
yes. it works great.
Nice walkthrough!
Thanks Jason! I need to do a new one already with the updates.
Refreshing how you can put this hundred dollar pancake lens to professional payed use, thanks for sharing your views and results and review with us. While you happily use the stuff and make beautiful keepers with it, that balance between costeffective gear and high creativity is difficult to find elswhere on other tech-youtuber channels. While other tech-tubers try hard to sell the most expensive or the newest gear to us via payed links, you simply share your stories, of a holiday to Austin for example, while in the meantime exploring the gear used and share your findings with us. I admire that. Exposure, focus, settings, aspect ratio, black and white, composition, film grain, difference between vignet on and off, and once again, on and off, so we can see and judge and decide for ourself. Looking forward to future videos on things you find interesting, I personally find GFX system compelling, with adapted existing EF lenses and manual adapted (pankace small sharp) vintage lenses. The effort you put in the videos is highly appreciated. Unique. Happy to have found your channel sir. Hope to enjoy this channel for a loong time.
Thanks for watching and noticing all the work it takes:) Most of my videos are answering questions that I have.
Fantastic wedding
It was a good one for sure.
5:25 Nice skin colors! Nice eye colors as well! What Film Simulation did you use for this? And what extra custom changes to Highlight / Shadow / Tone / Sharpness did you add?
I used Astia/Soft and my custom preset.
Super helpful, thanks! When do you set up eye tracking when shooting a wedding? Just for certain scenarios like walking down the aisle?
I've found that you need to calibrate per scene. So if you have time before the ceremony it could work well. I calibrate it at my daughter's soccer game, but I stay on the same side of the field.
@@ThePhotographerGuy Thank you!
👍👍👍
I finally got myself a GF 35-70, and it's great. I'm selling my camera now, and plan to get this GFX100 II in the future, when I can afford it. Hopefully they'll update the firmware to fix the auto-focus issues, though I'm sure it will be a nice step up from the original GFX100 anyway, even if they don't. I'm wondering if you ever use your 70-200mm f2.8 L IS on your GFX100 II. I think I'm going to end up with a GF 20-35, GF45-100, GF110, and Tamron 150-600, but I'm really curious about that 70-200mm f2.8 L IS, since I miss mine (loved using that lens on my Canon 5 D). Thank you for this video and all the videos you make about the GFX system cameras and lenses. I found you because of your videos that show your full-frame lenses on your Fringer adapter, just so you know.
That's awesome. that lens looks super fun. I don't have an EF 70-200 but I did test the Tamron version at WPPI and it had pretty good coverage.
Wow very very nice shots! I hope I can ask you two questions. About Iceland and the shots. 1. which month do you recommend for Iceland? 2. which drone did you use to take your shots?
Thanks! I have only been in April and it was great. We caught a bit of Northern lights and it wasn't too crowded. I have heard the weather can be unpredictable that time of year, so you might want to do a little more research. I used the Mavic 3. I prefer the variable aperture in the bigger drones. Then I don't have to mess with ND filters as much.
Hi, sorry, I know this post is a year old now, but I'm thinking hard about that Samyang and wondering if what you have is a v2. I'm seeing a v2 for Nikon but not for EF. Thanks for the consistently great GFX content!
I ordered the 28-70 and I wait for Black Friday to buy the r5 ii. it's a huge upgrade from sony a7iii and a7 iv, so I can't wait to try it. also your videos are the perfect ratio of information and creativity.
Thanks! I use that lens a lot. It's so great. I'm liking the R5 II more the better I learn how to use it.
Is the AF fast enough for relatively fast moving subjects? Let’s say running? Idc if it’s not instant or noisy.
It's not amazing for someone running towards the camera. I would wait for the new 50mm 1.4 vcm. I'll probably switch over to that one.
@@ThePhotographerGuy Yeah the 35 VCM was a huge let down with the wild distortion. Coming from the GM primes I really miss the 50GM and the 35GM, specifically the AF speed. Just really prefer the canon cameras.
what uv filter are you using
I use this on everything. amzn.to/3zUjO33
First waterfall is seljalandsfoss and not kvernufoss…

@@ThePhotographerGuy welcome - and the viking village was built to film a movie but wasnt realized 😉
@@tansanite09 haha. awesome.
I bought v1 pro f but it doesn’t seem to work with xt 5. Is there a reason?
You might need to go to the flash settings and either move the front or rear dial to turn it on. I had that problem with these flashes not working.
I like this camera. But not yet have camera..😢
Perfect example of a “show, not tell” review.
@@benjhaisch thanks Benj! This lens is too good.
I miss my fuji!! Def need to pick one up soon for fun
Their new zoom lens looks rad.
@@ThePhotographerGuy I’ll check them out
as an editor this what am waiting for
If every image is soft, that’s not ‘fine’. It’s a professional’s camera. It needs to work as well as a stock lens or better to make an adapter a viable option. Otherwise it’s just a toy.
Toys are still fun;)
Great content Ely..Always appreciate your efforts, and your real life pro thoughts and input. The community thanks you sir.
Thank you. It really is an impressive camera.
Phenomenal shots!
Thank you. It is a beautiful place.
Beautiful shots, which drone was that ?
Mavic 3. I wish I woud have shot it in D-Log.
I'm interested in the gfx100s for my 24, 50 and 135mm ts-e lenses. Do you have any experience with these optics?
I did test a few 50mm lenses. I put the 135 from Sigma on my camera once. It was pretty good. 24mm gets a bit too wide for Medium Format. I have a bunch of different videos. There's also a great "non-gfx optics" facebook group that has tons of info.
Great photo mate ! And great sound too ! Any video soon to share how you get this so bright and deep voice sound ? i have the Rode NT1 5 and my sound is not as clean than yours
Thanks. I followed the tips in this video. ruclips.net/video/57I644cTVpc/видео.html
I have quite a few EF lenses just sitting around when I moved to the Fuji X-H2. I was curious whether you noticed any vignetting. I would love to get my hands on a GFX camera. If the EF lenses work well, this might make it worth while for me. 😁
I have a bunch of videos testing a lot of EF lenses. They vary a lot. The 35 does pretty well.
It is so refreshing to hear your perspective on this camera with real world examples! Great video, thank you for sharing!
Thank for watching and the kind words.
just stop drinking before shooting and you're good to go
😂
You should set up triple AF back button. For me that I shoot sports I have the main one for general tracking, AE lock for eye AF, and AF point button to register/recall and set up for spot af area and non-tracking. That way you never need to go and change AF modes
I’m gonna have to dive in the menu some more and try this.
@@ThePhotographerGuy there are several videos out there illustrating how, for either the R5ii or R3. It works well also for other canon R models.
Thank you for the video. Just bought a new R52 yesterday with 35 1.8... which system is best for video editing? PC or MacBook Pro?
that's awesome. I am really not the best to ask about video editing. I use final cut on a mac but i haven't tried anything else.
@@ThePhotographerGuy hows your experience with the Mac! And which model of Mac and camera do you have ?? Do you feel easy to edit or difficult for rendering?
Adding one of the locked AF areas to your available choices eliminates tracking.
Thank you!
Your video included the pair of LP-E6P batteries, but there was no mention of the third-party battery issue and its specific limitations. It is rumored that Canon might have an upcoming firmware update will enable the LP-6NH to function normally with the R5ii.
😂😂😂😂
I haven't had any luck with third party batteries, so I just stick with the camera brand.
@@ThePhotographerGuy - Many photographers opt for third-party batteries; I use the 6LP-E6NH PowerExtra from Amazon in my 5R and 6Dii without any issues, and they see a lot of use in media sports photography. It's important for those considering the 5Rii to be aware of any compatibility issues with the R5ii. While the choice of camera brand batteries is personal, it's crucial to inform others about the potential battery issues with the 5Rii.
The banding on 9:10 is probably due to lens correction in Lightroom.
@@stefanklein1863 interesting. I’ll try turning it off and see what happens. Thanks.
@@ThePhotographerGuy Great. Let me know, if that worked.
I just checked. It did work. pretty cool. Thanks for the tip. It reduced it probably by 90%
Your reviews led me to buy an adapter.
@@thirakhor5634 awesome
Thank you Ely I appreciate this hard work. What were the top reasons you wanted to upgrade? Any features you didn’t need really?
Thanks for watching:) Autofocus defiantly an upgrade, On off switch and speed of on and off for capturing my kid on trips, electronic shutter.
Looks Amazing! You captured it perfectly, really makes me wanna go!
Thanks Danny! You would love it!
One question, how did you remove the tripod collar from this 105mm Sigma lens?
You have to just keep turning it until it hits one of the slots that allows it to fall off.
I shoot with the R5C as I need high end video as well as stills however with electronic shutter there’s always flicker of indoor lights. Have you noticed that on the R5II or I?
I don't to a ton of video work, but I do know that the shutter speed can be fine tuned in video. I haven't had any flicker issues with photo.
Great shots buddy!
@@jyangphotoatx thanks Josh!
amazing shots, scrolling is a bit annoying, so i checked the post myself
haha. perfect. the talking part is more for travel info.
Can you select a smaller single AF point like you can on canon cameras? That single af point was pretty huge. I also shoot canon and want to add this cam to my workflow. Does the 70-200 2.8, 100mm 2.8 & 24-70mm 2.8 work on it as well or do they need adapting? Thanks for a great tutorial and the samples.
I think there are 4 or 5 sizes. It can't get as small as canon but smaller than you probably saw in the video.
@@ThePhotographerGuythanks. Have you tried those other canon lenses? I noticed you had to remove something from the 100-400. I don’t think I’m that skilled but would love to use my canon lenses on this camera.
