- Sony launched the PS3 in Tokyo this morning but the Kutaragi-led event was marred by unruly crowds fighting among themselves to get to the new PlayStation. Check out the mob scenes midway through our video report.

When the PS3 first came out it had a blu ray player, which on their own then were $500+. There is indeed truth in what you say but you can't deny the ease of use and affordability the consoles provide and the advantage of being able to actually own your games and not just a digital file or a license for it.
The exclusives, trophy/achievement systems and controls are indeed a personal preference.

I remember waiting at home and my brother and our friend came home with the Sony PlayStation 3 and a few games. My cousins also had the PlayStation 3 and I had a Nintendo Wii. I remember we all went back and fort playing both PS3 and Wii. Good times back then. I love these vintage retro news stories and I'm happy people saved and uploaded them on RUclips. Cool video. ^_^

The later versions (the one that lacks the PS2 hardware) are more reliable but the early ones are notoriously unreliable and *very* heavy, sadly the early versions were never released in Europe.

The early ps3 had a 6 percent failure meanwhile the 360 had an 55 percent failure so the early the ps3 were reliable unless you are comparing to the later variants.
@@joeyreidelbach5509 what are you saying? the early versions - Phat PS3s were prone to YLOD and overheat issues despite having backwards compatible. The later iterations - PS3 Slim were reliable. My 60GB Phat PS3 (with 4 usb ports and memory cards option) went down the drain due to YLOD. Then in 2009 I went for PS3 Slim which still ok (replaced thermal paste in 2019) up to this day

im going to try to make somewhat of unbiased opinion here; The PS3 has so much potential and is practically a technological work of art, despite this though the biggest flaw it has at the moment well, it depends on which version you buy, I bought the 80gig version just this year but the PS2 Emulation software is downgraded from the 60 gig ver. so I cant play CD-rom games ; ; Anywho right now I cant say the PS3 is the best console, too few releases, all thats expected to be out is MGS 4 and FFXII
PS4 launch was probably worse and was probably bigger.
I don't know why people criticize PS3 for me it was the best console I had. I could have my own pictures, my own songs, videos and I could chat to friends in a playstation world with our Avatars. That shouldn't stop on ps4 nor ps5

This is why you wait for a year or two when it comes out...when its less crowded...when the best games are $20-$30 a piece :P thats what I did.
That's a massive fight? I'm still glad I waited two years to get my PS3. Now nobody can call me a fanboy because I have Wii, 360 and PS3 and most likely would have a real opinion on games that I play. Unlike alot of people who say a game is rubbish even though they have never played it.

It's not to late to get one. You can get it on eBay for $250. I got mines a week ago and I love it. It's a Japanese model too that's backwards compatible with PS2 and PS1 games.

yeh when the ps3 came out nearly no one at my school went out and bought one because it was to expensive. when the price came down considerably i went to get one wit my christmas money.

Xbox is so much better that a high percentage of owners have to send in their Xbox dude to RRoD. HD Lost the format war, and it isn't even built in. You had to pay $120 for it but now it's $60 because the lost the format war.
Where you have PS3 which has built in Blu-Ray and Built in Wireless.
Basically, PS3 is worth the price because it has built in Blu-Ray rather than paying extra for HD Dvd. Everyone has money and it's not hard to get either consoles.

That actually depends a bit dude, but generally the pc is mostly the better choice. You would get a gaming rig for half the price you mentioned at maximum a year after ps3 launch, with the rig being in analogy better in performance at the same games. Imagine with a $750 rig later till now...Your rig can also have dvd/br as ps3 and you can put it in the living room if you want it. Plus, apart from all that, it can do ALL THE OTHER JOBS a pc does.

The processor of PS3 has yet not been fully utilised. but soon you'll see proper usage of it n sixaxis tech similar to wii's bluetooth motion control.

I think the riots are more evident of how stupid Tokyo and Fresno, CA residents generally are, and how violent they can be. You don't see people from rural Japan doing this.

Ah, and something else...the pc can easily be upgraded for a lower cost per time than buying a console (although that depends a bit on what year you would buy the rig after launch).

no the power was the same there is no difference in performance between the ps3 slim and the fat ps3 at launch. the only difference between the fat ps3 and the ps3 slim is the size and less power consumption.
