Kids will never know the feeling of booting up a Playstation and seeing the incredible graphics of these early games. Seeing Crash Bandicoot, Tony Hawk Pro Skater, Final Fantasy 8, and Tekken 2 was mind-blowing at the time!
I agree. For us who have been around when all those systems and games came out it has been a massive journey to see the graphics improve. We never see such a massive graphical leaps again.

For real, he has an incredible dad, I'm kind of envious having grown up poor and with an abusive dad. But it still makes me happy to see this. When I become a dad one day I know to correct his mistakes. I'll probably introduce more retro stuff to my kids, as of right now I'm just an uncle

Which is understandable I suppose but this guy actually had a dad that was with the times and was into the same things as his kids. So many of its games like Crash Bandicoot, Spyro the Dragon, Tomb Raider, Resident Evil 2 Castlevania, Rayman and especially Metal Gear Solid always found their way to peek my interest and get me to play them and have wonderful experiences and I'm still discovering many to this day. Hey man, just found your channel and just want to tell you that it’s unbelievable. It’s so awesome that your Dad decked your house out with the latest audio, visual and gaming tech and then on top of that filmed your experiences with it. I remember getting a PS1 with Ace Combat but I had literally no idea how to play it. I think it eventually got returned or traded in for the PS2 when that came out. And I’ve been hooked on the brand ever since. Watching this video on my PS5 is a wild experience. It definitely made me cry.
Living my childhood dream. My parents were poor so I simply didn’t get all of this but what I did get, I was thankful for. My first system was a Super Nintendo 2 years after it was released. Flashback to 1995 pre-ordering my PS1 at the Mall along with my best friend.. Picking it up that Fall and being on the phone with him for like 2 hours as we played the games and the demo disc that came with the system.. We knew video games had officially hit next gen.. He passed away NOT long ago.. I still think about those times..
It's crazy seeing these types of videos. You guys were thinking about the 2000s the 2010s the 2020s & planned everything out way ahead of time. This is amazing 🌟🙌
I remember getting the Playstation 1 from Toys R Us in 1995 or 1996. I have since been a Playstation fan and will be for life. Who else has only had a Playstation?
The Time Crisis part really hit me. Reminded me of the times i spent with my dad on the main and special modes. What a great game. Thanks for these videos, they are super nostalgic and give me a feeling i haven't had in a long time.
Man when I say your Dad was the coolest dad ever I mean that💯 Thank you for sharing this wholesomeness with us bro. Good feelings and vibes all around❤️
Ah the Playstation! So many great memories with this system. I still remember the Christmas day that I received it, along with the first four games I obtained: Megaman X4, Spyro the Dragon, Wild Arms and Megaman Legends. Those were good times indeed! Great video as always! Thanks for sharing your experience with us man!
Fantastic video, Tyler! I have been looking forward to this one for a long time. The original Playstation is one of my favorite systems of all time. I didn't own one but my friend had one and I would always be at his house playing games like Crash Bandicoot, 2Xtreme, Twisted Metal, Casper, Tony Hawk Pro Skater, etc. The PSone era is probably my favorite gaming era because there was so much innovation in gaming during that time. Developers were much more willing to take risks with games and there were so many unique games that came out. It was sort of like the WIld West for gaming. When that Playstation startup screen played, you really felt like you were being taken into the future. I still love seeing it; it is so iconic.
Your dad was SERIOUSLY AWESOME man 😎 so good that your daughter has his grandpa on all these videos. I can only imagine both of you smiling while watching this
Dude - this is one of the coolest things I've ever seen! I literally got goosebumps watching this. I grew up in a very, very rural town in northwest Kansas most of my life. Population ~300 people. So most of the people there weren't too tech savvy and a lot of my friends, myself included, weren't too well off financially. My grandma owned a cafe and did OK and she spoiled me rotten, don't get me wrong haha. But that being said, we were among the last people to find out about upcoming new consoles and video games. We would usually find out far after they had been released by either going to a bigger town that had stores with games and consoles or coming across gaming magazines which, for some reason, NONE of us subscribed to any until late in the PS1 era. My friend and I mostly had the n64 and were really happy with that. I didn't get a PS1 until the summer before 8th grade - so summer of 1999. I played a demo disc that had Metal Gear Solid and I was absolutely HOOKED. I worked all summer at my grandma's cafe and she sent me back to my mom's with a bunch of cash so I could buy one. I can't even fathom how many hours I logged on my PS1.... between MGS, many RPGs, Dragon Ball Z import games, etc. What an awesome time that was! I was head over hells in love with Sony at that point. Also, I can't tell you how freaking cool it is that your dad video recorded SO MUCH of your life. I barely have any photos of me, let alone any video footage. Again - small town. Only like 2 of my friend's parents have video cameras and they only used them on super special occasions. Kids today have it so good in that, because of cell phones, so much more of them will have their lives on video or photo to look back on when they're older. I had to subscribe to your channel and very much look forward to seeing more of your videos! Thank you for putting in all of this work to sift through all of those videos, upload them, edit them, etc. to share with us. I can't imagine how much time it took to do but I bet it was super fun for you to do!
PS1 and SNES are where I have most of my gaming memories. Some of the greatest games ever were made on the PS1 and in the US this is when JRPGs were at their height of popularity.
Yeh, great machine and some great games. And there's loads of games, mainly rpgs, that were released on the PS1 in the US but never came out over here in Europe, unfortunately.
Yeah for me too. My 'Trifecta' of 90s consoles were: Super Nintendo, Nintendo 64 and PlayStation. Those 3 consoles have been essentially 80% of my gaming experience through the entire decade. With a honorable mention to the Sega Dreamcast, back in 1999 that thing was WAY ahead of its time.
Would have been so cool to have been more involved with the launch, I didn't even know anything about the PS until my dad bought one randomly with Tomb Raider!
I love this , brings back good memories as a child. I am a little older than you so it was the Amiga and ST for me that really started to blow our minds after the commadore 64. Thanks for the memories.
You know what... I'm not so sure. There's something interesting about finding stuff on your own when you are a kid. I'm not saying he didn't have a great time. Just that living gaming as a kid's community experience felt special to me.
Having all those console and game collections must have been so cool at that age. I'll tell you one thing I'm most jealous of is the clear amazing relationship you and your dad obviously had. S tier family vibes!
This video out here making me feel nostalgic about a decade I wasn't even alive during haha. Very interesting to look back on being a 2000's kid. I grew up with a PS2, 3, and even 4 technically, but I did get a PS1 a few years ago as well. I don't think many people realize how interesting retro games are to younger people. I love seeing where many popular franchises today began, and seeing actual footage of the time is just another piece of the puzzle in my mind. Very interesting, and even though I wasn't around then, it really makes me wish I was able to experience these moments! But then again, I am still grateful to have all the memories I have with the consoles I grew up with. For reference, the PS4 came out when I was 10, and I got one when I was 12. I still love discovering and playing older games, though. Just wish they weren't so expensive nowadays!
Vidja Gamer give it time, content this great is it's own hype machine. And speaking for myself, I would imagine there's a healthy batch of us MRL fans that didn't care for PGS (these are two very different target audiences, it's only natural) and weren't subscribed and will slowly be trickling in as time goes on and people periodically decide to check on MRL's playlist over on PGS to see what's up (that was the case for me, being subscribed to PGS wasn't really a viable option as I disliked them).
Few people's dad had the greatest jobs in the 90s. The ones who had the courage to pwn camcorders and record us habing our earliest thiughtful conversations were extra cool.

Given he was in the industry with connections, but still had to be memorable moments for the both of you. I got mine that christmas, thankfully my mom and dad was hip to gaming and tech as well, but we were a middle class family back then so no crazy extras to harp about.. good old days

I'm so glad I found this channel! I grew up in the same era of videogames and it's so wonderful that your father documented everything back then for you to share with us today. So much nostalgia!
Your dad truly was awesome! It makes me so happy you got to share your gaming memories with him as well as your friends! Thank you for sharing these videos with us!
My pleasure! Those were such amazing days it’s my pleasure to share them
Mate that made me cry. I never had a dad like you’re’s but my mum gave me every game and console I wanted 🙏🏻
This might be the best episode, and that TV is insane.
8:48 four boys glued to the screen. Times havent changed 😆 Awesome video!
This is great, your dad rocks
Thanks!
It's crazy seeing these types of videos. You guys were thinking about the 2000s the 2010s the 2020s & planned everything out way ahead of time. This is amazing 🌟🙌
Your dad is definitely a one cool dad! Lucky guy
Starlink Mega Man X 4 is one of the best and Wild Arms is one of my favorite RPGs
Ahhhh yes, Battle Arena Toshinden, that beings back memories.
This is old but gold...😊
Kevin Radigan Thanks Kevin! I love the startup screen. One of my favorites
Your videos are the best Tyler! Enjoying this and I’m not even that big of a PS1 fan! :-)
Thanks Greg!
how did this 12 minute video feel like an hour, wow, so many memories. this was awesome
Your dad was SERIOUSLY AWESOME man 😎 so good that your daughter has his grandpa on all these videos. I can only imagine both of you smiling while watching this
This channel brings back so much memories man
Dude - this is one of the coolest things I've ever seen!
Watching videos like this make me feel cheated out of a good childhood
I love it! Great job! Oh and finally I get to see you get the Sega CD! oh and you were right you didn't have a reaction! But you still loved it! 😆
Looks cool but I hope to see the PS2 video next
Having parents that actually under technology must be a blessing from God
It really was man
You know what... I'm not so sure. There's something interesting about finding stuff on your own when you are a kid. I'm not saying he didn't have a great time. Just that living gaming as a kid's community experience felt special to me.
the current generation of kids will have parents that gamed and understand it. I think that’s gonna help gaming really blossom moving forward.
Is that seriously a boxed version of Earthbound on the table at 10:32?
Great console! Man how is your sub count not higher!? Thought way more would have followed over from PGS. Happy to see you back on your own channel.
Look what the cat dragged in! Long time no see buddy!
Thanks man! You’re in before the PGS announcement 🙂
I remember my parents queuing on launch here in the uk they waited hours so me and my brother could have one
Few people's dad had the greatest jobs in the 90s.
The ones who had the courage to pwn camcorders and record us habing our earliest thiughtful conversations were extra cool.
"Next to saturn baby" i laughed too hard at that lmfao
Saturn was his baby! He loved that console
And then N64 was released Sept 1996 in the U.S. PS1 almost became a memory. These 2 will always be tied for best teenage gaming memories for me.
Lmao almost a memory? Huh must be high
@@PickleRick91x um ya me my friends and everyone we knew put our ps1's aside when N64 was released.
@@gemini92406 lmao. Bro Nintendo 64 only sold 36 million to playstations 102 million
Keep dreaming.
I'm not hating on n64. I loved both for there own games. But n64 was more for children...
@@PickleRick91x dude where I'm from..... All the kids forgot about playstation for a good while when N64 came out. Idk how many units sold. All the kids that I knew in Philly switched. What else u want me to tell you? Thats just what happened.
your dad was epic for recording these moments, and going out of his way to make this happen for you. Given he was in the industry with connections, but still had to be memorable moments for the both of you. I got mine that christmas, thankfully my mom and dad was hip to gaming and tech as well, but we were a middle class family back then so no crazy extras to harp about.. good old days
What a great video. People just seem to have a way better back then.
I remember when I got my PlayStation. My dad and I got robbed while I was at school and I came home and my Super Nintendo was gone. My dad bought me the PlayStation and I forgot all about my Super Nintendo
You are now allowed to admit everything was planned.
I would do ANYTHING to go back to 1995 !! Living in Miami and Puerto Rico !!! miss those days :(
I absolutely love this footage it brings back so many memories you dont even know. Your dad was a hero doing all this footage for real. Im 41 and still as mad about gaming as i was when i was a kid but you dont get the feeling you got back then not even close. Nice one brother.
