  • Milwaukee Tools SUPERCHARGER Watch Before You Buy! (UNEXPECTED RESULTS)
    We decided to see how fast the new Milwaukee tools supercharger can charge M12 batteries compared to a standard and rapid charger. We had some unexpected results and now we need your help to come up with an answer!

    For the m12 side of the fast chargers, they're probably the same design. That extra minute is probably just a margin of error. I bet if the test was conducted multiple times, the results between the two would probably be even closer.

    I think the supercharger is mainly optimized for the M18 red lithium lithium high output platform.

      You are correct sire! The only batteries that charge faster on the supercharger are the HO 6.0, HO 8.0, and HO 12.0
      All other m18 batteries and m12 batteries are charged at the same rate. Even the charge rates for the HO cp3.0 are the same for the rapid and super.

      @@MostlyPeacefulCombatVet it's a hard sell especially since most tools don't need the 12.0, adding in if you have the rapid charging station and more than one 12.0 battery you shouldn't need a new battery every 2 hours.
      I'm a 1st year Carpenter I've used a 12.0 with a skill saw at work I ran a 12.0 dry in 4 total hours of constant cutting.

  • @muddybadgers5205

    That's less than a 5% difference in time which could be a number of things making that small difference. The super charger and rapid charger are the same until you put a HO M18 battery on it

    I built a sort of “charger box” a long time ago, mounting my Milwaukee and dewalt charger to the top of the box, cutting in a 3 gang with a gfi, a usb outlet, and a regular outlet, wired everything together inside the box off the load of the gfi, and then one cord out to plug it in and power everything, fairly simple to do and everyone on job sites was just amazed with it lol. Put some handles on it and painted it, then put a little bracket on it so I could hang it in my van, was pretty awesome. Your stand reminds me of it, great work!

  • @MostlyPeacefulCombatVet
    @MostlyPeacefulCombatVet 4 года назад +5

    The charge rate is the same across the rapid charger and super charger on 12v batteries.
    The charge rate is the same on the rapid and super on all m18 batteries too. EXCEPT the HO6.0, the HO8.0, and HO12.0. Even the compact HO3.0 charges at the same rate on both chargers. The battery and charger communicate the optimized/maximum amps a battery can be safely charged at. (All chargers have the redlithium technology) While individual cell voltages are monitored, and temp is monitored, etc. It's more involved than I will explain, but the charger and battery will agree with what is best for said battery at the time under any circumstance.
    If you run a lot of 6.0HO batteries, the super charger is cool. But..... Nobody is buying a supercharger to charge one battery, so in my opinion, buy / use 2 rapids or more, and charge your batteries that way. If you only have one battery to charge, you probably aren't doing a ton of work to justify the cost of the super. I'd buy more battery. Just my honest opinion. Though I do love the super charger... I feel like an HO starter kit for another 50-100 is what makes most sense to me.
    Thanks for the Video @VCG Construction! 👍 man y'all are lucky to have that beautiful HO/supercharger PackOut kit. I want one of those just to have one.

  • @jdreynolds29
    @jdreynolds29 4 года назад +2

    You said that all three batteries were equally depleted I'm wondering which method you used to determine equally depleted. Because if you ran them down in the same tool until the tool cut off that would not necessarily be exactly the same depletion for each pack it would be very very close but would not be equal depletion because of the fact that battery temperature is going to affect battery voltage and the battery temperature being run down in the same Fashion on the same tool would be very very close to each other however it would not be exact and the rapid charger in that supercharger was very very close charge times but not exact. So unless the battery packs were allowed 2 rest until all of them Reach the same room temperature and then use your DMM to measure d voltage to determine depletion of each pack this could be the difference in the rapid charger being first place finishing before the supercharger. However it could also be the charge rate of the rabbit charger compared to the Supercharger so that brings my next question what is the charge rate of do you supercharger. I don't have any standard M12 Chargers or any standard multi Chargers because I sell them as soon as I get them being that I have plenty of Rapid Chargers. In the charge rate on the rapid chargers for the M12 is 12 volts at 4.5 amps

    Have several Rapid chargers, & am happy with them. Only way I’m getting super is if it’s a gift or price drops😅
    My guess as to why super charger came in second. Might be within the “error” percentage of acceptable charge times & maybe a different super charger would have been the same as rapid charger🤔❓; as it wasn’t that much over. Don’t all m12 batteries charge at a particular amperage......as in they don’t go over 4.4 amps or something like that?
    Interesting vid though👍🏻

    I think someone else hit it the nail on the head. I think the M12 charger sections on the rapid and super chargers are the same and the only difference between the rapid and super is the super’s ability to charge M18 high output batteries at a faster rate. Now, that might change in the event they develop high output M12s...pretty sure they only offer XC M12s right now.

  • @Mopardude
    @Mopardude 4 года назад +1

    If you look in the power specifications for both tools, the output amps for 12v batteries is the same. The only reason the rapid finished first is because that battery wasn't not as drained as the one in the super. Redo the test with 18v batteries and you should see a huge difference because the output amps for 18v is about twice what the rapid is.

    • @Mopardude
      @Mopardude 4 года назад

      Also if you did the test multiple times with the I bet you would see they average out which one finishes first. Even that 1 and half mins difference or whatever it is is well within tolerances if that is what you want to call it to saying both batteries finished at the same time.

    There is tech built into the chargers & batts that detect which type of battery (standard, XC, high output, etc) is placed in the charger. This protects the lower output batteries from getting a charge designed for high output cells.
    Basically Milwaukee is protecting your investment by making it stupid-proof...All batteries are compatible with all chargers and the equipment chooses the correct charge rate for you.

    I would guess that the supercharger is optimized for 21700 cells found in their HO batteries, which naturally have a higher core temperature when charging and a shorter life cycle. Because of this the supercharger is likely programed to be more conservative with temperature and charging voltage.

  • @69sound81

    Difference might be due to the battery life, use, etc. They should (and are) virtually the same. The super charger is mainly for the huge M18 batteries of high discharge rate or high output. There it will really shine. And the 12V is never going to give you so much of a difference anyway. It aint relevant for the user due to the work intensity of the tools. If you get a 12v tool it is 4 convenience (not power, force or run time), just size and weight.
    On the other hand, the 18V system is targeted at the person that needs more juice, run time, power, etc. And most often doesnt care about the bulk or weight, but actually needs the tool to perform @ the very best both in runtime and power. So they buy the huge batteries and the supercharger to keep their tools running (but will have standard chargers on the workshop to charge batteries over night). So M12 batteries and chargers dont have to be so fast or powerful, they have to offer lightweight and compact yools and batteries

    There's no mystery to this. The rapid and the super charger are obviously charging the m12 batteries at the same rate. The 1 minute difference is within the margin of error and is most likely due to the battery being slightly more depleted on the super charger then on the rapid charger. The super charger most likely only made to charge the m18 batteries faster.

    Interestingly “toolcraze.net” lists a charge time of the rapid charger for M12 2.0 = 34 minutes. And 28 minutes for the “rapid charge station with 6 bays”. Most other batteries had similar times. I’m even more confused now.
    Rapid charger
    M18 2.0 = 34 minutes (24% faster vs 45 minutes*)
    M18 XC 3.0 = 51 minutes (15% faster vs 1 hour*)
    M18 XC 4.0 = 1 hour 3 minutes (30% faster vs 1 hour 30 minutes*)
    M18 XC 5.0 = 55 minutes (47% faster vs 1 hour 45 minutes*)
    M12 1.5 = 20 minutes (33% faster vs 30 minutes*)
    M12 2.0 = 34 minutes (24% faster vs 45 minutes*)
    M12 XC 4.0 = 54 minutes (40% faster vs 1 hour 30 minutes*)
    Charge times on the Rapid Charge Station for comparison purposes
    M18 XC 5.0 = 56 minutes (46% faster*)
    M18 XC 4.0 = 1 hour 6 minutes (26% faster*)
    M12 1.5 = 23 minutes (23% faster*)
    M12 2.0 = 28 minutes (37% faster*)
    M12 XC 4.0 = 54 minutes (40% faster*)

    Red said the supercharger charges every battery the same as the rapid charger except the ones (HO) with 21700 cells inside, it can charge them slightly faster with a bit more amperage. There is a spec sheet floating around the Internet I saw right when they announced it. Why the rapid finished first is prob slightly higher voltage in the battery bc 1 min or less is irrelevant. Diff tools diff cutoffs many variables I would assume. If you had taken a multimeter and checked them before hand the voltage would of most likely been a tad higher. I know you have a multimeter (harbor freight coupon lol) laying around? & I would expect it nothing less then Fluke in the VCG workshop 😊 I love you guys VCG, but your the worst with these click bait titles/pictures/arrows/statements 🤦🏽‍♂️ it reads/feels so gimmicky. You kill me every time I get a notification😫 I wish you didn’t have to ride that generic RUclips bandwagon for the followers...Again much love just telling you how it is...which I’m guessing you know already since your doing it lol. On a side note... sometimes I’ll use an m18 tool just a bit, couple holes or something etc. then throw the battery on the charger thinking I’ll just cap it off and both my chargers say it’s fully charged. Red must have it set that if it’s not below ie: 4.0v in each cell then it doesn’t register needing to be trickle charged. I have a bunch of non-tool Li-ION chargers and you can really get a Better understanding whats going on inside the battery/cell even with LiPOs.

    Read the packaging before you make videos like this it's only optimized for a specific type of M18 battery's

    facepalm... charging an M12 in a supercharger doesnt tell the whole story. the supercharger is designed for the higher capacity batteries that use the 21700 cells. look at the charge time chart right on the box.

    Fast charger, are battery killers. If batteries live 2.5 year. With fast charging, it will last 1year.
