  • Which charger is faster for charging Milwaukee M12 compact and the new XC high output batteries? Is it the Super Charger, Rapid Charger, or a regular charger? Spoiler alert... While the SuperCharger is the fastest option for charging M18 high output batteries, the Rapid Charger is equally as fast for all other batteries. I guess the Super Charger isn't so "super" when it comes to the M12 platform!
Does a Super Charger charge faster than a Rapid Charger? Depends on the battery…
M12 CP 2.0 (CP = compact battery) No! Same amount of charge time!
M12 CP 3.0 - No! Same amount of charge time!
M12 XC 4.0 - No! Same amount of charge time!
M12 High Output CP2.5 - No! Same amount of charge time!
M12 High Output XC 5.0 - No! Same amount of charge time!
M12 High Output XC6.0 - Nope! Same amount of charge time!
M18 XC 3.0 - No! Same amount of charge time!
M18 XC 4.0 - No! Same amount of charge time!
M18 XC 5.0 - No! Same amount of charge time!
M18 XC6.0 -No! Same amount of charge time!
M18 CP3.0 High Output Battery - Yes! Supercharger is faster!
M18 XC 6.0 High Output Battery - Yes!M18 XC 8.0 High Output Battery - Yes!
M18 HD 12.0 High Output Battery - Definitely!

If you don't need the battery right away just use a regular charger

Absolutely and great advice for both M12 and M18 batteries. And despite what I’ve seen on various tool channels, my opinion is that slower charging (less heat) prolong’s cell life. I have 4+ regular chargers, a few Rapid chargers, and the Super Charger in my mix and time permitting I always use the regular slow chargers. Milwaukee’s BMS is particularly bad in the older M18 HD12.0 batteries (from 2018), and the Samsung 21700 40T cells were discontinued and replaced with the 21700 40T3’s because the 40Ts experienced significant drop off in capacity after a modest 100 cycles. The older HD12.0 batts also have a tendency to become unbalanced at which point they only charge to 3 bars. I was able to balance the cells in each bank and the batteries can hold the charge luckily, but now I stick to the slower chargers when I can.

I’m waiting for the blink of an eye charger. That’ll be the day I upgrade.

Ha! Love it! We need looping-self-charging-batts that never run out.

Super charger is great for high output batteries

Indeed! The supercharger is great for M18 high output batteries; however, it isn’t any faster than a Rapid charger when it comes to M12 high output batteries.

I've had 1 of these for 2 years and it seems a bit pointless compared to a larger multi-battery charger.

I have to agree with you. I only use the supercharger for 12 Ah high output batteries. I’m also suspicious of the heat generated by fast-charging the batteries. Milwaukee claims it doesn’t impact longevity, but heat is not friendly to batteries. When I can I still use regular chargers even though they’re considerably slower. That’s where having lots of batteries comes in handy. 👍

My rapid charges my 5ah batteries in 10-15 minutes from dead to full charge. I don’t understand 28 minutes…??

M12 HO batteries do charge faster in the rapid and super charger, but I’ve never experienced 10-15 minutes.
