Milwaukee's new M18 FUEL High output batteries advertise some voodoo about packing more of a punch, but is it enough to downscale in battery size without losing power? The CP3.0 "HO" 48-11-1835 goes up against the standard XC5.0 found on most Milwaukee M18 tools including this 2962-22 Gen 2 Mid-Torque.
Funny to go back and watch the early episodes vs the current ones. You have gotten so much more comfortable and better at showing differences.

@@Code325 This is a guess sp take it with a grain of salt, but if you were to write it down some formal way with the date (and evidence of that date) before giving it to them, then if they were to use it anyways you may be able to sue them for royalties. That or get a patent and then email them about it
How about air to electric. The air turns a generator that makes electricity for an electric motor. It's kind of like a diesel locomotive so it must be good right? Just kidding of course

I switched to all Milwuakee and wouldn’t go back, even their weed eater and blower are awesome. Their 18v fuel impact is my fav impact.
I own the cp3.0 as well as the xc5.0 and high output 8.0. With my impact driver as well as the mid torque and my hammer drill I can tell the tool is stronger with the 3.0 compared to the 5.0 and even stronger with the 8.0.
Same here. The M18 CP 3.0's are also far cheaper than the 5.0s and up. Bigger doesn't mean better, but Milwaukee wants it's fans to think so

Having 3X 5.0 I bought 2XCP3.0. Did not notice any difference in performance, but it is lighter so it is a win. They do cost a small fortune here in Poland though (90$ for the cheapest).
Here in the USA the 3.0 CP batteries are available everywhere for less than $50 each for two - Amazon, eBay, & many other websites. The 3.0s are excellent. That's all I'm going to buy from now on

On the subject of HO batteries I would really appreciate seeing DeWalts 20x XR 6.0 batteries vs their 5.0 ah XR batteries. I feel the 21700 cells make that much of a difference over the 18650. But before I invest in more 20v XR 6.0’s I’d like to see some data to back up my suspicions. Thank you guys for your consistency , money spent and hard work. It’s certainly appreciated. Looking forward to 1000’s, well maybe hundreds of more videos 😂.

It's not that much as far as actual consistent torque in all tools. Bigger isn't always better. The actual length of battery charge varies widely depending on the work being done and which tool is being used

Hey thanks Busted in Philly! Worth keeping in mind these are for high draw but shortish use impact tools (because of the disconnect between motor and impact hammer mechanisms). Might be very different on a drill for instance with a constant and potentially longer draw.
The Red Lithium M18 3.0 CP batteries can be bought new for less than $50 each if you look around. They're everywhere, eBay, Amazon, & many other websites - because Milwaukee fans don't buy them often enough.
If you are going to run a H.O. 6.0 battery... might as well step it up to the H.O. 8.0 battery. Same case, same size cells internally, should be same weight, more total storage capacity. Edit: just saw the newer video showing the battery comparisons, good job!
TorqueTest I know I'm not alone in wanting to see this. Would you please do a simular comparison like you've done here but with a reputable knock off m18 battery? I would be willing to fund the knock offs and perhaps do the research as to what the best ones are. Could really use your help on this. Thanks and keep them coming!
IVE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS!! Glad I subscribed. Great vid great job. Although the 3.0 is shorter and lighter, it is longer and wider, so the size doesn’t seem proportionately smaller. I’m guessing the 2.0 doesn’t keep up like the 3?

I’m watching this 2 years later as a long time Milwaukee owner, I have the blower and the grinder and they chew through 5.0 batteries, so I picked up a Home Depot special buy with an HD 12.0 and it came with 2 CP 3.0 batteries for the same price as a 12.0 by itself (250) and I wanted to see how they stacked up, I actually didn’t plan on using them, but now I think I will on my lighter tools like my m18 drill.
I have the Mid Gen 2 and the 3.0 HO, 6.0 and 8.0 - this made me feel great about all the work on my car I'm getting ready to do with over the next week or so...
The 5.0 is the tried and true battery honestly sure 3.0 offers almost the same performance but the 5.0 longer runtime
to be fair 21700 cells are physically 50% bigger and heavier than 18650 cells. The cp3.0 had five samsung 21700 30t cells and the xc5.0 has ten samsung 18650 25r cells. Thats why the cp3.0 really is not much smaller or lighter than the xc5.0. The cp3.0 is physically shorter but is longer and wider than the xc5.0 and is only about 15% lighter. five 21700 cells are comparable to eight 18650cells in terms are size, weight and mass. This is also why the high out put xc6.0 and 8.0 have ten 21700 cells but they are actually bigger and weight more than the m18 hd 9.0 which has fifteen 18650 cells.

I ended up getting the 3 and 8 high output batteries for my Gen 1 Mid torque and the power difference from the 3 to the 8 is pretty noticeable. I skipped the 6 since the footprint of the 8 is the same and they say you gain 15-20% over the 6. I switch between the 2 depending on fastener and the room I have to work with. Generally though I rock the 3 since it's lighter. It be really cool to see what that Gen 2 can do with an 8 or even that crazy 12 high output battery👍

@@ezrawaters6653 Nice!!! I only have one impact wrench so far with that battery platform, but looking at picking up a M18 leaf blower here shortly so the hour or so run time with a 12 would great. I like the more compact Gen 2 Mid torque so I have my eye on upgrading aswell as a picking up a high torque m18 impact, but waiting on the Gen 3. The high output batteries on impacts do bump up the power a good bit.
@@johnny4713ify I’ve ran a runtime test with the M18 Blower and 12.0 battery. It will consistently last 25 minutes each time with the trigger locked and in high speed. That means if you’re not constantly holding the trigger fully down, it would last 30+ minutes in high speed mode

BTW I just got back from HD was gonna pick up there Buy more save more deal on a Mid and High Torque impacts, but they only had the Mid in stock SMH.
The 12 ho batteries are amazing, I'd never pay full retail but I'm able to get them for $150 shipped which makes it worthwhile to use.

In a day of Orwellian doublespeak and marketing & sales gimmicks, you guys are the champs of the truth about tools with the vital information that matters most - how much power do they really have & which batteries live up to the manufacturer's claims?
I wish you guys would take all of Milwaukee's current line of impact drivers - both brushless & Fuel and test them for their spec claims. It's really odd to me that they offer so many different impacts with minor performance variations. I've got almost every one & there is little difference in their power & performance with either the M18 3.0 CP & the 5.0 XC. I'd be happy to help cover the cost of the test run.

A different tool like their M18 framing nailer minimum requirement is the 5.0. The 3.0 doesn’t consistently allow nails to be fully set.
That's what i wanted to know, if the H.O. 3 amp battery woulf be good for the framing nailer, cuz I wanted to cut on the weight

The 3ah HO battery is quite a bit longer out the front which gets in the way when using shorter bits in impact drivers or stubby sockets on an impact wrench.
First I'm not an Engineer, and this comment is not to dog your efforts. A few things that came to mind while watching you test this battery powered impact.
1) Testing different battery packs back to back may be giving you flawed data if the impact was at room temperature when you ran the first test, then switched packs and tested the 2nd pack immediately. The reason why is heat buildup in the motor and gearbox from the first test.
2) The smaller pack will not have as long of a life compared to a larger packs, so you may end up buying more smaller replacement packs over time in you use the impact frequently in a repair shop.
- The pack is going to be discharged and recharged more frequently in a shorter period of time.
- Fewer battery cells to spread the current load over means they get hotter during discharging and recharging, and heat has a major impact on cell health over time.
Just some considerations to think about.
3) Without testing the packs performance independent of the tool, how would you know that the packs are both good (i.e. one is not defective in some way) to start with?
If only big red would give us some proper M18 18650 HO packs. The M12 HO uses samsung 25S cells v the 25R cells used in the M18 packs. If there was a M18 5.0+ that used the considerably newer 25S cells it would stop the 3.0cpho into the dirt. The 25S has less voltage drop at 30a then the 25R has at 20a. I think a new 3.0xc would actually beat a new 5.0xc. The 15M cells have less initial voltage drop and for a 15 second test that will carry it.
Thanks for the great video. Wondering about “runtime” CP 3.0 v XC 5.0- for Milwaukee orbital car polisher. If the power is about the same - should the runtime be equivalent under similar conditions ? Since the Polisher is different from the tested impact wrench - where a polisher capacity /runtime and weight are the important variables - and similar question for the XC 6.0 v 8.0.

You can find new OEM M18 3.0 CP batteries for less than $50 all over the place, eBay, Amazon, & many more. They work great & weigh much less than 5.0s & up
All three batteries. 5.0,3.0,8.0. The 3.0 won’t hardly run my 6” grinder. The 5.0 does decent but doesn’t last long.

Just a heads up. The CP3.0 battery does not fit in the blow molded Milwaukee case(s).
Good because they belong in the trash anyway.
Test them on the 1/2 high torque 3/4 or 1” they have more current draw I’d like to see em.

Im thinking the weight of the battery is affecting the performance, so probably raw power output at the motor is higher with the 3.0 battery.
The gen 2 mid tourque loves to eat charge on the 3.0, but on my high torque 2863 is more efficient on charge with the 3.0 packs
You should compare the MAC Tools mid Torque with the Milwaukee mid Torque. The reason I say that is because I leaning towards the Milwaukee but my MAC dealer has a pretty sweet deal on the mid Torque Impact right now.
the mac won’t be anywhere close to the milwaukee. warranty sucks, it’s just rebranded dewalt.

could we get a dewalt mid torque 1/2 impact test, the DCF896, there arent any reviews online that really test the torque of this thing other than using it on lug nuts
I have the Mac Tools version of that impact. I love it. I am an auto mechanic and it does 95% of what I need to do. Very rarely do I have to pull out my full size 1/2 inch Mac gun.
Is it the indiviual battery's capacity, or the fact that there are more batteries in the pack that make the difference?
The main factor in all battery & tool performance has a lot more to do with the type of work being done, such as drilling concrete with masonry bits, which draws a lot of power/energy to do the job. Or just light work as drilling into wood or installing wood screws. The torque or power demand is what determines the overall performance on the different m18 battery sizes. The M18 3.0 CP batteries are less then $50 each all over the place. Start with Amazon & eBay. There are authorized Milwaukee OEM resellers for batteries & accessories on both sites. I'll take two 3.0s over any 5.0, 6.0, or larger any day for any job. The bigger is better game Milwaukee plays is just a gimmick for the average tradesmen who uses his tools every single day.
