DUUUUDE!! I returned my drill because of the flashing red and green battery lights....only to get another drill and get the flashing lights....AGAIN!! I'm thinking what are the odds I get 2 faulty batteries in a row? So I come to youtube and see that I just needed to push the battery down harder. LMBO! You all just saved me another trip to Home Depot!
@@63bigjack how does HD not know this? Lol! I just had same issue on new unit. Though he doesn't say in vid kinda saw i better push down pretty hard. Now it went to red instead of flashing green and red. Wow.
The LED light indicators need to be on the front so you don't have to walk up to it to see how much it likes being charged. awesome video!!! Thanks Got my charger in the mail today!
Mine makes a very slight high pitched whine. If I'm not right next to it I can't hear it. If you're in your twenties or younger it will likely be more pronounced, since you gradually lose hearing in that range as you age.
@@DoresoomReviews I'm 45. My hearing is great lol. But no I wouldn't be able to hear it if was in the next room. Think I might just keep it and not return it.
@@DoresoomReviews thanks for the quick response. Maybe its just my charger. Just finished charging a battery 15 mins ago, definitely can smell a fume. Going to return and buy a standard charger.
Mine smells like hot plastic and makes a hissing sound. Just watch it. If it is too hot or hissing take it off and put it on again...mine went from red to green when I did this
I looked it up and found that the rapid charger is harder on batteries and they won't last as long. I'm sure Milwaukee won't mind selling you more batteries more often.
Mine is brand new. It hisses, smells burnt and is too hot to touch. This can't be normal. My multi bay ridgid charger had a fan on it. I can't hear a fan on this one. Thoughts?
There's no internal fan with this charger. I can hear a very faint hissing sound on all three Rapid Chargers I have if I listen closely. However, none of them smell like something's burning, and I'd say they only get warm to the touch. I'd return yours for a different one.
People that look like something like this expect a complete charge test using the same battery and the 2 different chargers. That would be the most relevant thing you can do.
I don't have any concrete data on it, but in general rapid charging is tougher on the battery cells than a slow charger is. However, if the charger is operating within the battery cells' specified maximum charge rate, there shouldn't be any significantly greater cell degradation. But I don't have the exact cell data sheet, or the current output of the charger over time so it's hard to tell.
my new battery both do not charge. they flash green and amber what dose that means i bought new kit and try to put them to charge they flash what dose it means ?
If they're flashing alternating green and red, that means it's a bad battery. Sometimes it does it if you don't have the battery seated properly on the charger. Otherwise you need to return it for a refund/exchange.
any one. i just got rapid charger charging HD6.0 battery charger on top a very worm like little hot. IS THAT NORMAL or something wrong with battery or charger???
If the battery is too hot it will let it cool down before charging, or if you already have another battery in the other spot, it will finish charging the first one prior to charging the second.
Hi! Informative Video! I thought I had the Rapid Charger until I saw your video (i have the slower one). I got the charger in an M18 Milwaukee Combo Kit that came with two M18 Red Lithium xc5.0 Batteries. Do you believe my old model charger will fully charge the M18 xc6.0 Battery? What would be a miracle, to me, would be if my Standard Speed Milwaukee Charger could even handle the xc9.0 or 12.0 Batteries!
I am having trouble with one of the that old, I charge my 18 and is ok. but when I use for charge the 12 v alone flashes and make a weird noise like sending energy but the light never get charging solid. do u have any clue what might be going on? thanks
+Maic Soares The older multivoltage charger flashes for several reasons: Slow red flash means it's waiting for the other battery to charge. Fast red flash means the battery is too hot to charge, and it's waiting until it cools down. Alternating green and red flashing unfortunately denotes a bad battery. Have you tried it with multiple M12 batteries, or just the one?
The six bay Rapid Charger (3X M18, 3X M12) is basically three of these in one housing. So it will charge 3 batteries simultaneously, then charge the other 3.
Hi Doresoom Reviews, thanks for your nice review. My problem: I plugged my 120v charger (old one) into 220v outlet causing the power IC exploded. I replaced by a new TOP260EN IC. However, the charger cannot charge. So, can you help check the voltages of charger output terminals if they have any voltage with/without battery inserted? Thanks a lot.
i just bought a brand new battery m18 and a milwaukee charger that takes m18 batteries and the very first time i plug it in i get a flashing red/green. so i wait for it to "warm up" i guess. nothing changed. i guess i just suck
It could be a defective charger or battery, which I would return if it's brand new, rather than messing with a warranty claim. Otherwise, I've seen the M18 chargers flash like that when the battery isn't fully seated or the outlet powering the charger isn't supplying enough voltage.
I leave mine plugged in with a battery in it most of the time, and it will just maintain the battery. I've never had an M12 or M18 battery pack go bad on me in the 5 years I've had tools in those systems. Hidden down at the bottom of the manual, it states: "As a general practice, it is best to unplug battery chargers and remove batteries when not in use. No battery pack damage will occur, however, if the charger and battery pack are left plugged in."
Rich Mine doesn't light up until I put a battery on it. Then it comes on as a solid red when charging a battery. It sounds like yours might be dead. Either that, or check to make sure the contacts don't have metal debris shorting them out.

If it's flashing red and green, then yes. The other explanation is that your wall power isn't sufficient or is getting interrupted. I've noticed if I unplug the charger with a good battery in it, it will briefly flash red and green before shutting down.
They need a switch or something automatic for a lower amp charge because i saw someone checking the output and it was 6 amps which is way to much for a 2 Ah battery really 5 Ah is about the lowest that would be with in spec
Was the amperage test done using a 2Ah battery, or a larger one? The charger may be able to distinguish which type it's charging and adjust accordingly. When I took a tour of their battery lab this year, they told me that their tools can distinguish the difference between batteries and cap the current they draw accordingly, so it would make sense to do so from the charger perspective as well.
Well i just got a 9.0 and the rapid change and it does the same power on 2.0 but to be fair i was only checking the input watts but they were the same so i dont see the charger just dumping all those extra amps into a resistor or anything but i think all the charges need a switch for a standard charge and a fast change since 18650s standard charge is .5c which would be preferred and then at the job go all out but that being said 6 amps would still be way over current for any 1p pack even for a rapid change
If they added something to identify what kind of battery it is because even a switch would only give you the 2 setting and really there should be a standard and rapid for each battery because it would be different depending on the capacity of the batteries
gee mcgee I've measured the Rapid charger at 25 minutes for a 2Ah M18 battery, and 38 minutes for the regular charger to do the same. So up to 50% faster in my testing. Different capacity batteries may not have linear scaling though.
If I use the m12 gen 2 impact driver with the 2.0ah battery. How long would that last me? The reason I ask is because I have a project coming up where I will be installing 13 blinds and I do not want it to die on me while I’m working.
Thanks just got my first kit and wasnt sure why my batteries were flashing green/red and not charging. Didn't push the suckers in enough.

Does your charger make a squealing noise while it charges? It's damn annoying.

I've had one M18 battery die on me in the last 5 years while exclusively using this charger. Doesn't seem too bad to me.
These rapid chargers are more inline for their bigger batteries. Like the 8ah and 12ah.
The batteries don’t actually die from rapid charging they would die more than likely from over heating or dropping not from fast charging …

How long do each battery last while it’s in use before dying ?
That is highly dependent on which tool you're using them in - it varies from minutes to many hours.
