- The Cincinnati Police Department in Ohio released bodycam footage showing a suspect allegedly striking an officer in the face with a metal pipe. Officers received a 911 call about an alleged robbery that the man was a prime suspect for. Injured officer, Johnny Harris, arrived on the scene while an officer was already engaging the suspect. The suspect allegedly struck the officer when another officer used a taser on him. The man was arrested and charged with numerous felonies including assault and robbery. Officer Harris suffered several facial bone fractures and will need reconstructive surgery, police say.

I worked 33 years as a LEO and this is loss of control by the police. We used to take down EDP like this with one or two officers and a can of Freeze Plus P pepper spray. How times have changed and for the worse.

All officers are different, those first two officers probably figured that they didn't have the physical ability to take him down, short of shooting him, so waited for more able-bodied officers to arrive, is my theory. On the flip side, some officers were accomplished athletes in high school and still keep in shape, and woulda felt confident in trying to physically tackle the suspect. All depends on the officer.

Louisville Metro (Kentucky) got into some serious lawsuits after a man who had used PCP ended up being shot, because he attacked the officers with a box cutter knife, even after being handcuffed. The man had superhuman strength to be able to contort himself to attack the officers with the knife, and they were able to prove it, so the family lost the suit. This was 15-20 years ago.

Sometimes (as in ALWAYS), it’s better to neutralize the crazy SOB who’s committing assault & battery on others (especially law enforcement), destroying property and removing the risk of potentially hurting more of the public. Allowing him to strut down the street, likely because they’re afraid of the repercussions from tackling this CRIMINAL, is what happens when people discard the victims and apologize for criminals.

Suspect likely high on PCP, aggressive and armed with a pole. No one is around so no innocent people are endangered by this man - lethal force is not needed or justified. Wait until more officers arrive to ensure a successful hands on takedown whilst staying close and monitoring the situation to make sure members of the public aren’t strolling into danger. If the situation changes and bystanders are threatened then lethal force will be used. If not; well smashing a few windows doesn’t warrant a death sentence.

He didn't get hit, certainly not in the face. It's assault to be sure, but he didn't get struck. If something did hit him, it wasn't a metal pipe.
A hit like that from a metal pipe would have put the cop on the ground, stumbling around for a least a little bit. Unless he's the literal Terminator, he wouldn't just keep walking like nothing happened.
So "strikes officer in the face with metal pipe" is an allegation that is at least partially untrue.

I feel like the new police tactic is to let the suspect do as much damage as possible so they can absolutely arrest them and have zero technicalities for getting off.
You can to be insane to be a police officer nowadays. The public will turn on you in a heartbeat. Praise you one second and then the next they lynch you for not being able to deescalate a situation because the situation is highly subjective. Especially since they only have mere moments to decide but everyone else can rewatch and judge every little thing you did wrong.
