- In a tragic incident captured on shocking bodycam footage, a Utah man was killed in a police shootout on June 6th after allegedly opening fire on officers. According to the Ogden Police Department, 36-year-old Brian Simonton began firing at law enforcement who responded to a 911 call from his ex-wife claiming he was violating a protective order against her. The intense exchange of gunfire left one officer wounded before Simonton was fatally shot by police.

The cop shot that gudder 3 times because he wasn't trained well enough.
at 10:45 the cop shoots the gudder for the 3rd time.
why say alleged ?
It's a legal thing so they have to say "Allegedly" basically stops them getting sued etc
Imagine the ex wife, in her apartment, hearing all those gun shots...she knew he was going to end this today. What a sad story. Glad the wounded officer is out of the hospital.

I kept imagining the same thing. Must have been absolutely heart wrenching. I bet she still doubts herself to this day for calling the police but I think this was inevitable with his mental state.

Why none of these cops brought a rifle with them to a known man with a gun call is beyond me....
Yeah, seems odd. May be a SWAT only thing for them due to politics. It probably would have ended with a lot less lead flying if a cop had brought a rifle. Even a shotgun....

THANK YOU, officers, for your service to the community. The world doesn't need more simonton-types running around, causing mayhem! I hope the brave officer who was hit has made a full recovery!
I would NOT thank these officers. They literally started a war in civilian neighborhood trying to catch one single not trained guy with the gun. Just try to count how many shots those officers fired with no damage to the suspect before they finally get that guy shot down. It's unbelievable! As a civilian I whish to see professionals who well trained and know what they're doing and not starting shootout on the streets with a million shots fired. I appreciate their sacrifice but as I said that would be better if they would be trained well.
they know what they are doing, how else are you suppose to defend off an armed person who is literally firing rounds at you? they basically did the only logical thing to try and stop him. Police officers are trained professionally and know their way around a firearm. Its also really hard to concentrate on the target when you are getting fired at aswell. The average M1911 also isnt good for medium ranges and its accuracy is harder to predict at further ranges, so them managing to take the criminal down is very impressive.@@andersspiegel1216

Nope. To these guys, it’s either his life or your life.
Facts
Correct! She called to defuse the situation but she did know he needed help and it may turn out wrong which is why she warned them of everything including the firearm. He was going to end someone eventually but it would've been her most likely.
Of course its "his fault" but as to whether she should take any blame. Thats a little more complicated. At best her choices lacked a pragmatic approach and common sense due to dispatch asking "will he cooperate with officers" she said "uhhhh im scared how this is going to turn out". She knew he was likely armed, and she knew hed likely shoot it out with the cops when they got there. If its true (and shes the one who said it) that all she had to do to de escalate and potentially resolve the situation was to take the dog. Then she could call ASPCA or whatever later. Point being, she didn't do anything that wasnt within her rights, but not being able to think pragmatically or with common sense, being that simply accepting the dog wouldve diffused the entire situation and she chose to instead say no and call the cops. As its been established she consciously knew the likely outcome of bloodshed and mayhem. Its hard for me to agree that given she had the power to prevent what she knew was likely going to happen. She knows that, and she will now have to live with the guilt shes definitely going to feel and i in the spirit of honesty wouldnt attempt to convince her otherwise.
When these women have protective orders and the guys violate it and come back armed, that is typically a horrid situation for the woman or whomever initiated the order! Thank goodness she was unharmed and thank you to the police!
You haven't read Gonzalez v. Castle Rock have you?
Cops don't usually show up to protection order violation calls.

@@GAme4life916while I agree, I say kudos to the Ogden police force for not providing ARs to standard field officers. We’ll just because someone is shot doesn’t mean you can’t move. The officers are telling him that so that he doesn’t get shot anymore. Tension is high, stress is through the roof, adrenaline is off the charts, anger and rage is flowing throughout the body because someone tried to kill you and If you make a move it’s likely you will be shot. Especially if you move towards a weapon on the ground. Also just because the suspect has a gun doesn’t mean he only has one. Many cops have been shot by a second gun they didn’t see. He makes any move except his hands out and away from his body and any weapons will be considered an assertive move and will be dealt with as a threat.

Wrong. No desscalation, just dominant orders; it was over the health of a dog..officers pursued combat instead of a solution. Perhaps dispatch didn't relay his motive 🤔
So nobody in that police department has a long gun? That was painful to watch. Taking shots at 100 yard with a pistol is insane
Female cop keeps hiding behind the male officer, won't stop tying up the radio, keeps "narrating" throughout the entire incident, totally useless. Kudo's to the officers engaging the suspect, and prayers for the wounded officer.
Wife : I can’t have him here
Police: say no more
Luckily we had a narrator who tells us everything after we see it for ourselves
These officers go out there and do this for us every day to keep us safe I'm not saying everyone is right in what they do sometimes but most of these officers for their life on the line to save us give them credit enough is enough of this thank you officers for everything you do

Shouldn't go near anyone who has a restraining order against you. It shows that he was never going to leave the woman alone. He couldn't move on probably because of drugs or alcohol and so this was the end.
They gave the dude plenty of warnings
Dude deserved
what he got !!!
Hope the dog recovers and finds a good home.
I know me too I kind of wonder if the ex-wife regrets not just taking the dog to a shelter instead of causing all this.
@@Mike-01234 ..... One of the most senseless comments here. He only brought the dog to her because he wanted a shoot out with the Police to end his life. She didn't cause anything, she helped it find a good end.
If the police officer was allegedly shot, then shouldn't the dude be allegedly dead?
On cop shows on tv when a suspect is shot you see the policeman / detectve still carrying his gun after the event, but in true life will all the eight officers who discharged their gun have to sacrifice the firearm and be assigned other duties till a report on the incident is concluded.
So when cops get in a shootout and say your car happens to be there and you get some bullet holes into your car, who pays for the repair?
Perhaps a little practice at the range? Geez
You spend a lot of time on the range making pancakes. Scram.
@@RLTtizME Yeah, I'd bet 6 buddies and I dumping mag after mag after mag at one suspect could get lucky at least once. Have a nice day, officer.
@@brycecrousore1985 Blueberry pancakes are my fav...just like you make them at Waffle House. Much respect.
Happy ending, the ex-wife won’t need a protective order anymore and taxpayer dollars were saved.
“I wasted everyone’s time getting a protection order and now he’s here and I want him to leave but I don’t want to press charges”
WTF!?!?!?
That woman cop made things 100 times worse and more tense for the first responding officer. And parked 1000 feet away.
I was waiting for him to ask her if she wanted him to draw her a map.
Then, she TOTALLY blows their cover, and THEN wants to be the ‘Alpha’ female 🤦🏽♂️
When she calls out to the criminal when her partner has no cover , unbelievable
Brutal
Her yelling where is he? And to obviously watch shots fired and plugging her ears from the sounds was kind of discouraging not gonna lie
She sux, she fired off a few rounds and can't even hit the target. Putting everyone in danger.
That lady cop completely escalated things and just let him know their position.
It seems like she saw him drawing down on the first officer and yelled out to get him to turn off of the first officer. Not exactly a bad idea.
Her movement, use of cover, decision making and tactical appreciation on the whole were woeful. I would not want that as my cover.
That looked like a situation where there was going to be some cross fire going on. From what we saw that was not a good tactical response. Hopefully the video will lead to some good training.
One cop said,"he's still got a gun."Isn't that the reason you're there??
Good on the ex wife for calling the cops and not running out there screaming to protect him once the shooting started.
Right. Good for her..... for taking his children from him, getting that Magic Restraining Order to keep him from his children, extorting his every last dollar, making him homeless, and couldn't even care for the sick dog.
She had life insurance for him no only kidding it sucks for everyone including the 🐶 hope he finds a good home
Why did none of these cops have rifles. They coulda ended this at the very beginning with a single shot. From that distance pistols are just lobbing lead and getting lucky if they get a hit.
those bullets whizzing by was crazy in the crossfire.
Why did it take 3 calls to 911 for the cops to finally come?
