Imho the soundtrack of XBC2 is one of the best soundtracks ever made, in any medium. And it's terribly underrated. Especially the fact that it even uses real a capella choral music, not just the stereotypical "epic boss fight Carmina Burana style" or "ahhhh, ohhhh, ahhh" stuff.
The game came out the week the show happened I believe. So it would have to be nominated for the 2018 show, which also didn’t happen and I’ll never forgive Geoff Keighley for that
Xenoblade 2 was just one of those pieces of media where when I finished it, I just thought “I will never ever experience something like this again in my existence, ever.” The team behind it poured so much love and soul to the music, art and story, and not to mention has the most fun RPG gameplay I’ve ever played, it’s not hard to say that XC2 is my favourite piece of media in general.
Same. I just didn’t connect emotionally to XC1 or XC3 even 1/2 as much as 2 and that battle system just keeps me coming back for more. Different stories for different people and 2 with soundtrack/story/and gameplay was for me.
The Parting into The Tomorrow With You made you cry without even experiencing its in-game context which is even more emotional. Incredible. I'd have to say, in this incredible OST of my all-time favorite game, The Tomorrow With You is my favorite track of all.
It really shows how amazing and well crafted Xenoblade 2’s music is, that it moved Dan so much without him having the context behind it. Mitsuda, ACE and everyone else who worked on the music did a fantastic job. Looking forward to when Dan eventually checks out Xenoblade 3’s OST.
Your commentary and after-thoughts after hearing 'Parting' was so heartfelt. It's probably not said enough but thank you so much for the work you do and the knowledge you try to impart upon us all. Also a big thank you to everyone who pushed for this OST, it was an absolute honour and joy to watch and listen to these blind reaction streams. ❤
I think its incredible to see how even though he hasnt played the game, doesnt knows the characters or the contexts, the end of this soundtrack still hits him just as hard as it hits me. I think it shows just how much thought and effort have gone into not only the soundtrack but the game too. Its truly beautiful like Dan says. Seeing you react to and point out cool music theory within the soundtrack of one of my favorite games of all time has been great. But like you said the emotion it causes, that's what art is all about, thank you Dan.
One Last You ending with those notes of the main theme is one of the most beautiful things I've heard. It's the last song on the OST and the very last one you hear in-game during the credits, and I don't know too much about music theory, but even I picked that up when I first heard it. This game means a lot to me.
One Last You is just a punch to the feels, man... That was beautiful to listen with your reaction. Hearing this piece 25 years after Xenogears gave out a feeling of full circle accomplished life, emotionally.
The fact these songs can ilicit an emotional reaction without even seeing the heartbreaking scenes they play behind shows how much love an passion went into both the game and the sountrack
1:55:15 Once again, thank you so much for reacting to and analyzing my favorite OST of all time. That final stretch of Disc 5 from "Our Hope" onwards all plays in a singular sequence in order, and yes, it is _incredibly_ emotional. This game and soundtrack are incredibly special to me, so it was heartwarming to see you have such an emotional reaction by the end. I do hope you play the Xenoblade games one day in your own time as they truly are magnificent. It's also a neat coincidence that you reacted to the soundtrack around this time of year since the game just had its 5-year anniversary a few days ago from when you recorded this.
The part of the game where Tomorrow With You plays broke me. If it wasn’t already enough of a moving piece, hearing it in the game’s context after I had already spent 80+ hours following Rex and Co.’s journey left me heartbroken. It’s moments like that which elevate XC2 above nearly every video game I’ve ever played. It’s increasingly rare as I near my 30s for a game to create memories I genuinely cherish, but Xenoblade Definitive and Xenoblade 2 did just that. In fact, they put an end to the burnout on video games I’d been in for nearly 4 years.
Going from parting to the tomorrow with you is the most hurtful, emotionally destroying gutpunch when it plays back to back at the end of the game. I was inconsolable for so long after I experienced it, even though you had no context, or the 60 hour game before hand, I'm glad you felt some of that sadness too
At 17:40, one of the great things about The Power of Jin theme is how it quotes the second section of the main theme, with a much darker sound, reflecting how twisted Jin's experience with the world has been.
If I cry everytime I get to the end, having seen the whole package, your emotion really shows how well made this OST and game are. XC2 is my favourite game ever and I doubt I'll feel the same way with another game, this was such an experience.
If just the music got you this emotional at the end here, imagine how the game itself would make you feel. I was in a depressive rut for several weeks after I finished this game because of a combination of how it ended and the fact that I was just desperate for more. I was so upset it ended and it felt like I was being torn out of a world I grew to love. Happy belated 5th birthday to this masterpiece of a game - it launched Dec 1 2017.
It was so touching to see you cry. I'm glad that the soundtrack managed to touch your heart like it did. It is truly a special OST, and I'm happy that I spent my time seeing you react to it.
All three mainline games' soundtracks are absurd in their depth, variety, and quality. If there was any justice in the world, they would be celebrated as three of the best video game soundtracks of all time. Well, at least 3 finally got a nomination for best OST.

One Last You is too powerful. perfect song to end the game and just, so excellent. one day i'll play through XC2 again and it will just as it did the two times i played it. 400+ hours
I find myself constantly coming back to this man's reaction to parting because of how powerful it is. I love that song to death, and seeing him react the way he did got even me emotional. I'm glad this amazing music was able to really make him feel something, and I can't wait to hear his thoughts on 3 or X in the future.
Xenoblade Chronicles 2 is a game that has a lot of problems and quirks that can don't give the best first impression. But after sticking around for a while, it really shows its heart and eventually becomes something amazing despite its faults. This soundtrack is incredible, and its emotional power is to me emblematic of the ambition and passion that the small team of 40 core developers put into this massive game.
@@willycheez7218 I mean, look, I really do love the game, but Pyra and Mythra could easily have been given less revealing outfits. The fact that they didn't was pretty clearly for fanservice, just objectively. Also, unrelated to the fanservice, they REALLY should've made more time for the voice direction of the english dub, because you and I both know how many of their lines just didn't have the right tone for the scene they were in.
All the previous CDs had great music to listen to, but this final disc truly encapsulates just how special this game's OST is. They went above and beyond to make a memorable and emotional experience. This isn't taking away from any of the other Xenoblade soundtracks which are great in their own right, but 2's is...truly magical. I encourage anyone to give the game a try. It's got a few rough edges but it is something I was able to spend several hundred hours on and I enjoyed like 90% of that time. The characters are great, the story takes you places, and the music is an absolute treat.
That sigh you had after "Parting" and during the next song after captured my exact feelings when I first played the game. The first and last games are great, but the ending of XC2 has hit me like no other game besides Nier: Automata. Truly powerful.
this game, music, story everything makes me cry. The amount of talent, passion and love put into each and every single thing in this Game is insane. Forget about the low parts of the game or what the haters say, this whole ost alone is worth more than the price people paid for the artbox and a cartridge. I will be forever thankful for Yasonuri Mitsuda and Monolithsoft. I still think XC2 has the best music in the franchise
The game already put me through my feelings but as a soon-to-be-music educator myself, listening through this stream while taking care of Student Teaching paperwork REALLY got me in my feels. Such an emotional rollercoaster of an OST and I genuinely adore it.
The first time I ever heard One Last You was a couple hours after we had to put my family dog of almost 14 years to sleep, as you can guess I was a complete wreck, one of the most impactful music moments I've ever had
This was such a pleasure! I hold both this game and this soundtrack very close to my heart, and seeing someone with a deep understanding of music break down and analyze my absolute favorite OST was truly heartwarming. I’ve learned a lot about my favorite songs and about music in general, and you consistently pointed out small details in each track that I had never noticed before, offering a new way to approach them and enjoy them. It was also very touching to see your reaction to Parting. This game and it’s beautiful soundtrack has brought me to tears many times as well, and I’m very glad you could experience it along with all of us. Thank you so much for the awesome reaction and breakdown!
Beat the game a couple weeks ago. Truly amazing OST. Dan, I love tour reaction, so pure and emotional. Thank you for your time and knowledge and I am glad that you enjoy this great music. Happy Christmas.
The number of tracks throughout this whole soundtrack that you were able to get a general of idea of what happens in the game during that track is impressive, and just proves how much of this game's story was told through the soundtrack. Yasunori Mitsuda is a legendary composer. Edit: If those last few songs on the OST got you crying, just wait until you play the game. There is a reason those songs invoke such emotion.
Its amazing that even though he did not play the game the OST still brought him to tears at the end. Truly a great series. I have a tough time deciding which Xenoblade I like most but 2 always fights hard for the top spot. Great area's, Music and the like.
i just realized that xc3's "the weight of life" uses the same rhythmic motif as a lot of songs in this soundtrack like "after despair and hope" and "counterattack". hoping he eventually checks out xc3's ost when it's released
There are a LOT of references to XC1 and 2 in the music of XC3 that are so well integrated I never even noticed despite playing both games several times each. You may enjoy this dive into the music of XC3 until this channel has a chance to tackle it. ruclips.net/video/kXBtgPivFNY/видео.html
1:42:06 Came back with One Last You Lyrics! Very end of eternity The final day has come to an end, it's gone for good I would then slowly close my eyes And be cuddled by the shining memory piece I will trace back all the memories with you That's the only wish I have The last day with you was truly magical The frozen time began to flow At last the longest night has gone and brought in light I felt myself melt in the morning light The final grain of sand has dropped I will slowly so quietly fall into sleep I see you gently fade away Your silhouette has gone (to) the other side of the mist And all the memories with no sound so quiet Just like in slow motion it moves so slowly And so the last day with you was truly magical The frozen time began to flow At last the longest night has gone and brought in light I felt myself melt in the morning light You have gifted many things to me (But I) wonder if I could've done the same for you If you would let me, I will give back a handful If it would put a little smile on your face Can I ask you, God? Despite all of this... Could the sandglass somehow take back the time? One last time is all I ask from you Can you please spare me some time with the one man I loved? I wouldn't care how and where (you could) it should be But I need one last time I want to tell you, how I feel inside for you I want you to know...
The way the end of 'One Last You' returns to the main theme, and how that coincides with the very end of the entire game is just crazy. It hits like a truck every time.
Thank you so much for reacting to the soundtrack for one of my favorite games of all time. And what a genuine reaction it was. Now I don't know your taste in games at all, and it is quite a time-consuming endeavor, but I would love for you to experience the Xeno-series. I think context for these wonderful tracks would elevate them to even higher emotions. Either way, thank you!
When XC2's soundtrack wants to hit, it *hits* like nothing else. For all my mixed feelings on the game overall, the quality of its soundtrack is undeniable! The game has a very emotionally-impactful conclusion and boy, was the music written to match. It's incredible to watch it work its magic like this! I hope you'll listen to the third game's OST as well, once the story DLC for it drops! It'll still be a wait, but I have high hopes that it'll resonate with you just as this game's soundtrack did. I'm sure it'll be worth it!
I wonder if listening to some of these songs in isolation would have had the same effect? Or perhaps, it was that Dan was hearing these songs in the context of the rest of the ost that conveyed that power and emotion so well? I’m genuinely curious
You were talking about the rhythmic motif and everyone in chat kept saying Counterattack, but I think the song everyone was thinking of was Crossing Swords. After Despair and Hope is a really obvious callback to that song, which plays the first time you fight Malos (the final boss) at the beginning of the game.
The way you got so much of the same emotions and outlines of the story that I got from actually playing the game shows me that Mitsuda, Hiramatsu, Kiyota and ACE really hit it out of the damn park with this soundtrack. It isn't just fun music to go with the game, it IS the game, something is seriously missing if you remove it. As someone who aspires to be a composer, this soundtrack will always be my goal to shoot for and I'll honestly be lucky if I hit it before I die.
1:48:26 “forget about the video game” Believe me, I fully get what you’re saying about just how much went into the music itself, as it’s truly worthy of your reactions without even knowing the context to which it’s associated. … but also believe me when I say that listening to Parting/The Tomorrow With You/One Last You without playing Xenoblade 2 is like listening to Celine Dion’s “My Heart Will Go On” without ever watching James Cameron’s “Titanic”. The context takes these already moving songs and makes them genuinely heart-wrenching in a way that will stick with you for life.
1:09:00 The cymbals here sound like crash cymbals, where it's actually two seperate plates. Normally, the sound wouldn't pan so hard, but if you record close enough to them (like say for a digital library) it can happen.
at 1:39:05 @luke kapetanios mentioned that Pneuma means spirit, but I seem to recall from my ancient greek lessons that it means breath, or air. I don't know, it might be a homonym, maybe the greeks thought of it as the same

@@willycheez7218 BS and you know it.
@@NuiYabuko Tell me how I'm wrong.
What I think is, listening through the entire soundtrack and then reaching "Parting" and Tomorrow with You. is pretty much all the context you needed
Well now we're all crying.
Soundtrack of the year 2022.
Dayum - Dan got broken at the end. Right on
Beat the game a couple weeks ago. Truly amazing OST. Dan, I love tour reaction, so pure and emotional. Thank you for your time and knowledge and I am glad that you enjoy this great music. Happy Christmas.
Now imagine this music + the context they are played in. Not even fair.

Came back with One Last You Lyrics!
Very end of eternity
The final day has come to an end, it's gone for good
I would then slowly close my eyes
And be cuddled by the shining memory piece
I will trace back all the memories with you
That's the only wish I have
The last day with you was truly magical
The frozen time began to flow
At last the longest night has gone and brought in light
I felt myself melt in the morning light
The final grain of sand has dropped
I will slowly so quietly fall into sleep
I see you gently fade away
Your silhouette has gone (to) the other side of the mist
And all the memories with no sound so quiet
Just like in slow motion it moves so slowly
And so the last day with you was truly magical
The frozen time began to flow
At last the longest night has gone and brought in light
I felt myself melt in the morning light
You have gifted many things to me
(But I) wonder if I could've done the same for you
If you would let me, I will give back a handful
If it would put a little smile on your face
Can I ask you, God? Despite all of this...
Could the sandglass somehow take back the time?
One last time is all I ask from you
Can you please spare me some time with the one man I loved?
I wouldn't care how and where (you could) it should be
But I need one last time I want to tell you, how I feel inside for you
I want you to know...
i love you bringing other tracks to display motifs, it’s nice
This soundtrack never fails to make me cry.
The tomorrow with you: BABYGIRL 😭😭😭😭
Bruh Walking With You has to be my most favorite song of ALL time. Not just in video games but like everything.
The way the end of 'One Last You' returns to the main theme, and how that coincides with the very end of the entire game is just crazy. It hits like a truck every time.
Sea of clouds always hits hard for me. Especially for the final stretch of the game
1:24:18 yup, we need to get Dan on that XC3 OST the second it’s released
Walking With You is the same song as Desolation but fully orchestrated
When XC2's soundtrack wants to hit, it *hits* like nothing else. For all my mixed feelings on the game overall, the quality of its soundtrack is undeniable! The game has a very emotionally-impactful conclusion and boy, was the music written to match. It's incredible to watch it work its magic like this!
I hope you'll listen to the third game's OST as well, once the story DLC for it drops! It'll still be a wait, but I have high hopes that it'll resonate with you just as this game's soundtrack did. I'm sure it'll be worth it!
Man, can't wait for you to experience what the third game brings to the table. Love your reactions.
I wonder if listening to some of these songs in isolation would have had the same effect? Or perhaps, it was that Dan was hearing these songs in the context of the rest of the ost that conveyed that power and emotion so well? I’m genuinely curious
It makes me cry too bro dont worry
Dan playing megalovania over Jin’s song was hysterical
You were talking about the rhythmic motif and everyone in chat kept saying Counterattack, but I think the song everyone was thinking of was Crossing Swords. After Despair and Hope is a really obvious callback to that song, which plays the first time you fight Malos (the final boss) at the beginning of the game.
I'm so glad it was midnight in my place because here I am wrecked in front of my computer
You my friend, are a legend
The way you got so much of the same emotions and outlines of the story that I got from actually playing the game shows me that Mitsuda, Hiramatsu, Kiyota and ACE really hit it out of the damn park with this soundtrack. It isn't just fun music to go with the game, it IS the game, something is seriously missing if you remove it. As someone who aspires to be a composer, this soundtrack will always be my goal to shoot for and I'll honestly be lucky if I hit it before I die.
Just realized the latin vocals in the Praetor’s theme at 27:00 is a huge reference to One Winged Angel
Is it though?
1:48:26 “forget about the video game”
Believe me, I fully get what you’re saying about just how much went into the music itself, as it’s truly worthy of your reactions without even knowing the context to which it’s associated.
… but also believe me when I say that listening to Parting/The Tomorrow With You/One Last You without playing Xenoblade 2 is like listening to Celine Dion’s “My Heart Will Go On” without ever watching James Cameron’s “Titanic”. The context takes these already moving songs and makes them genuinely heart-wrenching in a way that will stick with you for life.
he breaks down emotionally now just imagine if he knew the context behind parting and one last you, its heartbreaking
Loved the reations. One doubt. Didn't A Moment of Eternity play in any of the episodes. I would love to see the reaction to it.
He cried so much he made me cried as well
Amalthus Acting God is the same lyrics as Past from Far Distance
This ost hits different
Walking With You is pretty much a more orchestral version of Desolation.
Best OST ever.
1:09:00 The cymbals here sound like crash cymbals, where it's actually two seperate plates. Normally, the sound wouldn't pan so hard, but if you record close enough to them (like say for a digital library) it can happen.
15:32 the most REAL thing said in this channel so far
Wow the last few tracks were hard to watch after the emotion got to Dan, he was totally gone. Xenoblade does that to you
I had to grab tissues. Again. For, like, the 100th time to listen to those last 20 minutes
at 1:39:05 @luke kapetanios mentioned that Pneuma means spirit, but I seem to recall from my ancient greek lessons that it means breath, or air. I don't know, it might be a homonym, maybe the greeks thought of it as the same
If you get the time you should def react to the Xenoblade 3 ost next :))
Aw, I wish I caught the ending of the stream... I would've cried as well
YOU MUST DO XENOBLADE 3 SOUNDTRACK NEXT PLEASE GOD ALSO!!!!!! 😢
1:40 that reaction was priceless 😂😂
Xeno games have the best OST
"She's right THERE!!!"
"poppi made promise"
just so you know the description still says 4 out of 5
1:45:36 whew. Always gives me chills.😍
The Tomorrow With You makes me feel pain. It’s probably my favorite track (well, maybe Drifting Soul), but it hurts to listen to.
I adore how the music changes over the course of the game because *spoiler* *spoiler *spoiler*
Xenoblade 2 and Street Fighter Ex Plus @ best game soundtracks imo. I let em go while I write
Time to do XC3 when the OST will release :p
Please listen to Xenoblade 3 ost next
what happened to his risk of rain 2 ost reaction?
Check under the new "Live" tab, it's there
Please if you can, review the Team Fortress 2 soundtrack, or the Splatoon 3 soundtrack. This is one of my favorite OSTs and I would like to see more.
I'd like a Splatoon reaction. ^^ It doesn't even matter with which game he'll start.
Splatoon's music is really something special. So underrated !
