xenoblade soundtracks have always been my favourite. one song will be the best metal song you've ever heard and the next will be the most beautiful orchestral piece you've ever heard. and sometimes they're both in the same song.
The music of the Xenoblade trilogy is in my opinion, some of the greatest music ever composed. Once you finish 2 and Torna, I'd recommend waiting until 3's soundtrack is officially released before recording your reactions to it. Some of the current game rips are low quality and cut off in premature places.
What I love about this official ost release is that it plays in the actual order that the musics come up in the game (minus some exceptions). So I find it’s a great way to relive the game. That’s what’s lacking from RUclips playlists that put them in the game file order, or classify them in combat/ field/ cutscene category, like most XC3 rips currently
I don't know if anyone will see this anymore, but about the "Ancient Vessel", there was a combination of clearly an oboe (1st solo instrument) and most likely a bassoon (2nd solo). So no english horn there
I’m glad to see you reacting to my favorite OST of all time. I hope this means you’ll also react to the music for the Torna DLC, which is also fantastic.
Idk if he reads these, but I think it's important to understand the setting of the game. It is set in a world where people live on the backs of massive titans, that all swim in an endless sea of clouds, circling a huge world tree as the centerpiece to it all, with elysium sitting at the top. It's a whimsical and fantastical setting, despite the horrors of its world, and is jaw-droppingly gorgeous.
22:21 So I played french horn for like 15 years and I believe those sounds are indeed french horns. I could do those sounds. It's kinda hard to explain how, though. Let's see... when playing a brass instrument like the french horn, you change what note you're playing by pressing certain valves but more so by your mouth. Without pressing any valves I can, for instance, change between a C and an F just by mouth movement. How I would do one of those rips is kinda dirty, where I would nail the starting note and then without cutting the air flow try and move my mouth into position for the second note while just sorta fluttering my fingers on the valves, it all happens so fast that I'll go from the starting note and hit the goal not but I'll hit some notes in between as well to get that kinda slide effect. More skilled players than me know alternate fingerings and do it all on one fingering that is chosen because you can hit as many notes as possible in between the start and the goal but that's beyond me, especially seeing how I haven't played for a few years.
been seeing this pop up in my recommends for a while now. finally checking it out. 30 minutes in, loving it haven't actually sat and listened to the xc2 ost in way too long. its still peak of peaks and the commentary is all tops
Disk One is not only a perfect introduction to Xenoblade 2 with great tracks like Exploration, A Ship In A Stormy Sea, and Gormott, but also a great introduction to the most important Xenoblade meme of them all: Don't forget me. Two great remixes to listen to after this are "the xenoblade chronicles 2 battle theme but you won't forget it" by avvvani on RUclips and "Don't Forget Me" a Torigoth Night remix by Fusion42 Music on RUclips. And for fans of Xenoblade X there's "NLA (New Los Ardain) Night theme" by SleepyFLCN on RUclips. In all seriousness, I'm so excited for this series of reactions. Xenoblade 2's entire soundtrack is incredible and getting to see someone react to the lesser known tracks is an absolute pleasure. This is my favorite game of all time and I couldn't be happier that these reactions are happening about two weeks before the game's 5th anniversary. Also, Torna has very few new tracks, but maybe a few too many to tack on to part 5. Maybe Torna's soundtrack + the bonus disc could be its own video at some point?
Oh, also I forgot to mention "Tiger! Tiger!"' is an in universe arcade cabinet and its graphics and music are based off the NES. Super Smash Bros. Ultimate has a remix of "Tiger! Tiger!" that is instead based on the sound of actual arcade cabinets. So that's a cool remix that's officially made by Nintendo.
53:06 Gormotti Forest the most calming game OST I've heard ever since feels like you are one with the forest or you are living your dreams adventuring in a fantasy world like Xenoblade. Btw there's someone called Shea's violin who covered this OST too in Erhu and it is an excellent cover too never thought an Erhu syncs with it so well ❤🔥❤🔥❤🔥
Just a fyi, but place names are generally based on the cardinal sins or virtues. It might not be so apparent in English, which I kind of prefer, but in the Japanese version places are literally named after the cardinal sins in Latin. Argentum is Greed, Gormott Gluttony etc.
The reason for the weird flute whistling in the back of tracks like Gormott(Night) is due to the fact that the game takes place on the back of a bunch of country-sized dragons. The sounds in the background are quite literally the snores and sleeping noises of the dragons put into the music itself!
Wait, really? I thought those were just night time sounds? Doesn't Gaur Plains Night have something similar? Or perhaps I'm thinking of something else.
I’ve spent about 180+ hours on this game. That’s not including Torna. I forgot how jamming the battle music was. Gormott is still my favorite track of them all.

22:00 Brass player here, those rips are on French horns, it's basically a really fast lip slur. You leave all the valves open and use your embouchure to go low to high really fast, resulting in that rip effect They're fairly common and really fun to play

I recall him saying that it was actually one of the hardest OSTs to make. It also probably wasn't done that early considering how the reveal trailer uses lower quality beta music instead of the final recordings.
As a whole, I cannot believe how much I enjoy this soundtrack. Yeah, XC1 may have a few songs I prefer more, and... I haven't heard enough of 3 to have an opinion on it (no Nintendo Switch, I played the first two when I lived with a friend) but like... there's just something so special about XC2's music and story together that I love.

Brass rips happen when you slur notes fast. And you have to do we the correct fingerings depending on the circumstance. And using more air makes them more broad. Less air it sound a little weak.

The moment the game gave me control over my character and Argentum music started playing I just put down the controller and listened to it for a few minutes. I did it a lot of times through the whole game. Same with XC3, which has my favourite soundtrack of all time.
I think out of all the xenoblde games, 2 definitely has the most bangers and extremely emotional tracks, they absolutely nailed the leit motif for this game, its used so many times and its somber beauty really supports the games (fairly) heavy religious themes. I absolutely love xenoblade 1’s iconic battle themes and cutscene tracks and overworld themes but they dont feel as cohesive as 2’s Xenoblade 3 placed much more focus on its performances and toned back the music to compensate and i can appreciate the insane amount of work they did for that game as well. All that being said, Xenoblade 2 has so many battle themes and overworld themes that just absolutely slap, and other toned back themes that are just beautiful, but the emotion portrayed in the compositions are nothing short of palpable, despite the sometimes lack luster voice acting the music was such a highlight that this could have been released just by itself and still manage to tell a complete story without any words (excluding lyrics) truly i believe that this is the best soundtrack that was ever produced for a video game.
Damn, I remember watching the trailer when it was first shown off. Elysium In the Blue Sky made me instantly want to play it. And it is still my favorite Xenoblade game, a huge part having to do with the music. So emotional
I think the best Xenoblade OSTS are from XCX, that game's main composer was Hiroyuki Sawano, who is one of the best anime / videogame composer of all time for me, every single OST from each contintent is memorable, and also it has many others like THEMEX who are absolutely amazing
A bit late, but, brass rips are done by going up the notes by changing your embouchure, which position on the mouthpiece, and the air speed. It's best done on French horns as seen in the stormy seas song. This is because you don't press any of the keys down when doing rips. On trumpet, it would go from C-G-C-E-G-B flat-C if you pressed no keys and ripped up. However on horn, you have many more notes, which gives you the iconic rip sound. Hope this helped a bit, the video has been fun so far 🙏🙏 Edit: Someone explained later in the video, good to know now 💀💀
lol Exploration plays and someone in live chat goes "this is mitsuda??" meanwhile the track is right there showing the composers "ACE (TOMOri KUDO, CHiCO)" 🤦♀🤦♀🤦♀
I always associate torigoth with the Celtic side of things. Especially with the type of blue collar feel of the people there. But it’s interesting that the music is so much more island inspired.
Hi Dan! I love your content you are the best music coach :) I wanted to ask if your channel will have other anime soundtracks besides game soundtracks? For example: Monogatari series, Hellsing OVA, Death note, Monster. There are great soundtracks.
My favorite game of all time is Xenoblade Chronicles 2, followed by Fire Emblem Three Houses. I feel like I am the exact target audience for this series
Fun fact: A Nintendo Direct used a different recording for the Gormott theme than the final game. It's a little hard to notice, but if you listen carefully you will probably notice that the Direct version was recorded live compared to the synthesized version used in the game itself.
It's really interesting listening to Gormott after hearing so many earlier songs with full live instrumentation. They were definitely going for a Gaur Plains type theme from the first Xenoblade, but I think they fell short, and part of it that the violins just don't sound real at all (especially when they hit multiple repeated staccato notes in a row - there's just no variation). Still a fantastic soundtrack, but I wish Gormott had been a little better. Maybe budget reasons.

Woohoo ! Can't wait for the next episodes :]
TIME FOR XC2, YESSSSSS
Damn, I remember watching the trailer when it was first shown off.
Elysium In the Blue Sky made me instantly want to play it.
And it is still my favorite Xenoblade game, a huge part having to do with the music.
So emotional
Things will get only better
you have to do ultrakill man, acts 1, 2, and chaos/order
Hope this helped a bit, the video has been fun so far 🙏🙏
Edit: Someone explained later in the video, good to know now 💀💀
lol Exploration plays and someone in live chat goes "this is mitsuda??" meanwhile the track is right there showing the composers "ACE (TOMOri KUDO, CHiCO)" 🤦♀🤦♀🤦♀
It begins!
Someone needs to tell him about Ys VIII soundtrack
Xenoblade Chronicles series is amazing and the sound track is just fenomenal.
Simply one of my favorites ost, and my personal favorite is Gormotth, maybe because the ns presentationd and reveal pf this game with this song
Xenoblade 3 next? 👀
Should probably wait until we know the actual titles of the tracks lol
@@Amitlu And also give other series a chance.
as a xenoblade fan I approve this video
My favorite game of all time is Xenoblade Chronicles 2, followed by Fire Emblem Three Houses. I feel like I am the exact target audience for this series
Dang this music is good. Never played the game but now I'm curious.
39:59 I'm just imagining Rex circa Future Redeemed recreating this scene
ohh, missed the live notification
I am ready or gormotti for when he gets to “Counterattack”
Fun fact: A Nintendo Direct used a different recording for the Gormott theme than the final game. It's a little hard to notice, but if you listen carefully you will probably notice that the Direct version was recorded live compared to the synthesized version used in the game itself.
Awesome :D
I do not want to speak about how many hours I put into playing Tiger! Tiger!. It is embarrassing to me as a human being.
WHERE ARE URAYA'S THEME AND COUNTER ATTACK THEME
1:20:31 I'll stop you right there. The island you're thinking of isn't Jamaica, the Steel Pan originated from Trinidad
Can you do a reaction to new Minecraft 1.19 soundtrack by Lena Raine
Empire of the undergrowth pls
torigoth night >>>
It's really interesting listening to Gormott after hearing so many earlier songs with full live instrumentation. They were definitely going for a Gaur Plains type theme from the first Xenoblade, but I think they fell short, and part of it that the violins just don't sound real at all (especially when they hit multiple repeated staccato notes in a row - there's just no variation). Still a fantastic soundtrack, but I wish Gormott had been a little better. Maybe budget reasons.
Funny, I prefer it to Gaur.
