    Fun fact: Zelda’s music was deeply inspired by early 20th century French music and impressionist pieces. Ravel’s Bolero was supposed to be the title theme for the 1st game. The fact that we’re seeing so much Ravel and Debussy in the classical answers really doesn’t make it easy.

    • @jaredf6205
      @jaredf6205 8 месяцев назад +30

      Oh no, I’ve been telling people this whole time that Ravelle’s Bolero was supposed to be used as the title theme for Ocarina of Time this whole time lol. I wonder how I missed that part of the fun fact. Because I also remember that the song was only a few weeks away from its copyright ending, but they had to ship the game and couldn’t wait.

    • @Clery75019

      Mystery from the French impressionist composers fits very well with the dreamlike worlds from Zelda. Particularly Debussy I would say. I never made the connection but it's true that now that I think about it, it really makes sense.

      @@jaredf6205 Small mistake, probably because OoT's title theme reuses the flute song from Zelda 1 (SMB3 also used this tune, to the point people actually tink it's from SMB3 instead of Zelda 1 lol).

It's somewhat understandable for people to be confused if it's Zelda music, especially when it's brought forward to full instrumentation instead of the 16bit sound of the original.

      @Caddynars you play oath to order where you need to and it plays the "giant theme". as far as anyone should be concerned it's called oath to order since that's an actual name for the song rather than an unceremonious "giant's theme

    • @Caddynars
      @Caddynars 8 месяцев назад +5

      @@ObeliskDemon I was mostly trying to provide an in-game lore explanation for it. Officially, the actual soundtrack lists it as the Giant’s Theme, with Oath to Order being used for the ocarina tune.

    • @5-Volt
      @5-Volt 7 месяцев назад +5

      @@IlSharmouta I mean.. I'd argue the same thing. The "lost woods theme" is titled "Saria's Song." Even though it also plays in MM & the context is kinda lost. Just like the theme of Lon Lon ranch is titled "Epona's Song." It's really just a semantics thing, I'm not taking it that seriously.

    It took me a solid moment to get bonus round #4 because it really does sound like something from an A Link Between Worlds cutscene but then I remembered where it’s really from and had a great laugh. Also helps that the actual name is so odd out of context. A lot of tunes from that source would be great trick questions on video game music quizzes

    Only missed 3 of them myself. The triforce heroes one, the rocky area theme, and that last one. That second one I did think sounded like the exact song, but because it just sounded off without the other instruments on it. That last one though sounded nearly identical to a song that actually is in Zelda. Just a hair off it but I thought perhaps that was just how it translated like how I messed up the previous one.

    There's a song in BOTW that legit sounds nearly identical to Fountains of Rome. Vah Medoh Shrine B sounds like it's nearly the exact same notes and tempo as Fountains of Rome. I think the same notes are used in the cutscene right before the Colgera battle in TOTK as well, which would make sense thematically given them both being Rito related.

    I think a big tell for many of the classical pieces are the subharmonics of the piano and string notes. There's a softness to each note strike and some reverberation that the MIDI sampling in most Zelda songs lacks. I bet this quiz would be especially difficult if each piece was recorded by the same person on the same instrument with the same equipment.

    On Fountains of Rome it got me. The piano sounds VERY similar to the "Inside Divine Beast Vah Medoh" theme from Breath of the Wild. That same lower, alternating pattern that quickly runs up, then down, and then holds at the low end before repeating. 100% this piece had to be the inspiration for the Zelda song.
