I genuinely think the whole "bottom of Naraku to Tokyo" section genuinely changed my taste in media forever. A formative experience in my media consumption.
"The stars...they're beneath us?" "It"so beautiful..." "Those buildings...they're like tombstones..." "This is Tokyo, country of the Unclean Ones." Lines that forever changed my world view.
SMT IV was the first SMT I ever finished. I had heard stuff about the franchise but didn't know much about the details. The twist of Mikado being on top of Tokyo all along was something I never expected and that's when I knew I needed to see the story to the end
Yep, he did SMT 4 OST along with a few selected Bonus Tracks from Apocalypse. Always expect 2 songs to always make a return Dan in each mainline, the Fiends Battle Theme and Kichijoji
If you want context for Battle B3 and Release: You have willingly chosen to attack a reactor until it creates a black hole large enough to engulf the world. The reactor is a machine, it puts up no fight. You keep "battling" it like usual until it breaks, while the music plays as a constant reminder of what you've chosen to do. Release is what plays once you've finished the task. Instead of creating a new future for people and demons to live in, you've chosen to end this perpetual cycle of rebirth. May you find peace in Nirvana.

Finally finished the whole video! So here are some of my comments: - Loved how in various bgm for maps you straight up pulled solos, they went so goooood - I havent noticed that the achords played the theme a lot, or that followed a lot of the same structure! -The lesson on progresive achords was nice, i gotta watch the pokemon mystery dungeon one now! Tho aside that, i wish to make some kind of story one day, hope i can make use of that haha Overall thanks so much for the reaction and analysis, it was so fun and i felt so nostalgic and vivid remembering all the tracks in the game, i played it 10 years ago when it came out, and Final / Apocalypse a little later, but it has been so sweet getting to remember a lot of sweet memories of it Hope you react to SMT III: Nocturne ost one day!
SMT IV is both my favourite SMT game and my favourite SMT soundtrack. Ryota Kozuka’s synth work is just amazing, it really matches the cyberpunk-esque feeling of a post apocalyptic Tokyo.
This game is an absolute masterpiece of the JRPG genre, if anyone here hasn't played it and is into that genre, I cannot recommend it highly enough! You will probably need to emulate it but that's super easy with Citra
"Over a thousand and five hundred years have passed since I wanted to hear your reaction to this soundtrack... You are either truly skilled or a fool indeed to ignore our pleas for this long. I will dine on your reaction that wishes to mingle with the Unclean!"
Shame that we didn't get to hear the reactions to Dagda's theme, his battle theme, or one of my favorite yet in my opinion underrated good tunes, Kanda Shrine. But this was a ton of fun to watch all the way through, or just sit back and listen while doing work. Thanks for always delivering musically entertaining education!
One little cool detail abot the Apocalypses track, Battle F8 - Enemy of God, ( 8:56:06 ) that I think you might have missed: Notice how at the beginning there are those low booming horn sounds? In total there's seven of 'em, for the first sixx nothing else is happening, but once the sound comes the seventh time it's also the moment the whole track kicks in and actually starts to play. I have absolutely no idea if this is indeed the case OR if it has been confirmed or not, but considering the source material here (that the track plays when you're fighting against God, for example) I do believe that this is a reference to the "Seven Trumpets" from Book of Revelations, where the sound of the seventh trumpet signs the culmination of Gods plan for this world and the remaining steps He needs to take in order to secure it, in otherwords try to kill you - the one who opposes the God.
Another neat thing about Enemy of God: It's got a very similar structure to Battle A1, especially during the more triumphant parts, implying that--at that point in the game--God is just another random encounter.
I actually decided to give it a go after listening the ost first. Oh boy, glad I did that, quite amazing game, especially tense dark fantasy atmosphere. The same case was before with Nocturne. And after those 2 it was different with SMTV, I've started waiting for the game and new ost release. Great composers!
SMT IV is probably my favorite soundtrack from the megaten franchise probably because of how different it is compared to the other modern games, it has this retro nes vibe that you cant really get elsewhere it feels like the older smt game than the newer ones, very unique. I hope you'll do a part 2 for this ost because theres a lot of tracks youre missing (Battle A3 my favourite battle theme)
Damn, a Doctor Who reference in an SMT IV stream??? My favourite game and favourite TV show in one video, nice. As always your reactions are fun, and I really enjoyed hearing my favourite ost get explained in such good detail. Now I'm just praying for the psx Persona 1 ost, which is pretty much the only soundtrack to come even close to this and V's quality.
damn. wish i was here for this. SMT IV is not only my favorite SMT Mainline, but my favorite game of *all* time. Glad you enjoyed the OST. definitely the best smt ost in my opinion.
Id also totally like to see y'all reply on your favorite Demons from SMT and why. For me its Totally Manananggal The Vampire Witch of the Philippines on how she can separate her Body but you'd still see her Organs intact
Amon, Ainahita, Odin and Manananggal, are probably my favorite Doi designs. Ardha, Susano-O, and the Devil Summoner design for Cu Chulainn are some of my favorite Kaneko designs. And a special mention to Koga Saburo for having such a cool design from a quest artist.
SMTIV is probably my favorite SMT games and it's really wonderful being able to sort of vicariously listen to these songs for the first time again. I love the improv over some of the tracks and all the faces made. I've always been impressed by people who can get into music so much that it reads clearly on their face/body.
It's really entertaining how you dissected the game through the music, when you described the hidden/hints tunes lurking from earlier piece and becoming more apparent in later pieces, the game really does have this mystery outside of the what in front of the protagonist's face that becomes more apparent as the story goes. I have zero clue about music so i loved going through this entire vod and listen to your interpretations and see how it reflects the story and plot of the game
As someone who played and adores smt 4 and 4a, I love seeing/hearing what he thinks is happening with each song. Cause all the underground districts besides the ikebukuro one, they're all safe spaces with no battles(I just got to the ginza district theme as i write this). It's also just nice to see more people hear and appreciate these games soundtracks even if they don't know anything else about the game. To actually comment on the video itself, it's also interesting to learn about the chords, notes, similarities between the songs and just like an indepth look at them coming from a perspective of knowing nothing about music theory. Keep up the good work man!
Almost 10 years of listening to this game's OST and I just realized last week that Merkahbah 2 has Mikado's music in it Truly one of the greatest soundtracks of all time that never stops giving
The philosophical question about true freedom and what it means to be truly free is really good to muse about and Shin Megami Tensei III Nocturne provides a story route for this which allows you to challenge causality itself. Really interesting stuff!
Really disappointed that the Apocalypse playlist you used skipped a bunch of tracks, including some of my favorites. Dagda's theme, Asahi's theme, both Kanda Shrine themes, The Third Choice, the ending themes, and YHVH's universe. I don't get why those would get left out.
An Hamauzu soundtrack (so like Final Fantasy XIII) has to be done! He's notorious for his crazy harmonic structures given his previous classical music composing aptitude. Would be a very interesting watch! A perfect example of how wild musically he can get, is in The Star Graal in The Legend of Legacy soundtrack, that's essentially a contemporary classical piece in chamber arrangement.
Very enjoyable classification of the respective music titles! I would like to hear your reaction to the "Pokemon Colosseum OST". Greetings from Germany!
Battle B4 always give me the same vibes as a Keiki Kobayashi (Ace Combat 4-7) composed track. Just something about it giving you that same feeling of flying through the air and also all the emotions involved in the fight really bringing the realities of the conflicting perspectives and what fighting for them really means.
Please if anyone who can suggest things to him, i NEED NEED to see him react to Made in Abyss OST. It's not a game but it's the best OST i've heard in any media. Would genuinely be so interesting. Or if you, Dan, take recommandationa from the comments directly, keep this one!!! It's truly a masterpiece. Love your stuff!
I really hope you see this, I absolutely love your content, especially the Minecraft and Terraria reactions, and I just wanted to say that there’s 3 new Minecraft albums out right now! I don’t know it there’s a pool or not, but you should really give them a try!❤️❤️❤️

The "main theme" that you listened to for SMT 4 Final was mislabeled. That was actually the end credits song.
Love smt Apocalypse so underrated
NOOO WAYYYY
OH BOY OH BOY ITS COMING
Imagine him analyzing Digital Devil Saga 1 and 2... that would be a good one.
We NEED to get him into Digital Devil Saga. He's gonna love the guitar there
Please if anyone who can suggest things to him, i NEED NEED to see him react to Made in Abyss OST. It's not a game but it's the best OST i've heard in any media. Would genuinely be so interesting.
Or if you, Dan, take recommandationa from the comments directly, keep this one!!! It's truly a masterpiece.
Love your stuff!
Its in the list of reactions, i forget where its placed tho
Edit: its in about the 50th place

I really hope you see this, I absolutely love your content, especially the Minecraft and Terraria reactions, and I just wanted to say that there’s 3 new Minecraft albums out right now! I don’t know it there’s a pool or not, but you should really give them a try!❤️❤️❤️

Me when battle A1
That kinshicho park jamming though!
good ost from a good game! love it, more should experience this masterpiece
His explanation on F6 kinda fit the fight that the song goes with. I also want to say this game is very Is neutral heavy, so he's almost on point.
Bro was playing Don't Stop by the Chili Peppers fighting literally God lol
He always looks like he just ate something extremely sour when he hears good songs
