I followed each step exactly like you. Damn, it looks brand new. But mine was on the hood front middle by the latch. I had to sand it down more to the corners too because I had bubbles but wow. I love it.

This is extremely helpful. The peeling just started happening on my 2019 elantra gt. I drive on the interstate everyday and over time debris hit and ruin some spots on my car. I will be using your guide to fix my paint.

My Hyundai (White) tailgate is peeling. Hyundai said to bad not covered my insurance wont covet, 2 autobodies want well over $1,000 to repair.

Thanks a lot for your comment Ben ! Paint repair are so Expensive , spray can paint is not perfect for sure but when ITs well done IT came really hard to See the difference for 90% of Mortal and ITs a good compromise between let the car on primer or spend over a 1000$ .

That was a fantastic job. I own a 2017 Elantra with massive amounts of paint peeling off. Same color by the way. Unfortunately, there is not much I can do to stop it. I hope the area you fixed is the only area you have to fix. Maybe you'll have better luck than I did.

That was a great job, very well explained! You mentioned that this was your first time doing this, how did you learn to do it like a pro? You pretty much knew exactly what to do, I been looking for a video on how to fix peeling paint on a bumper but I have not found anything helpful, seems like this is the closest video I have found on how to fix peeling paint, I hit a little snow bank with my bumper and now my bumper's paint comes off pretty easily in greater areas on the driver's side by finger, I'll try and follow your steps, only thing is I don't have the buffer you used at the end.

Thanks for the video. Was thinking about doing this but now I know for sure that it’s way over my head. It’s just too much. You have to get every grit sandpaper ever made, 20 different cans of paint, a buffer, McGuire’s, bando, and a million other things. It’s overwhelming
I understand ahahah sand paper on Amazon is 20$ for a set paint is like 100$ and compounds by hand will cost you 30$

Excellent tutorial! I am hopefully going to try on my White Hyundai. Like another poster, 2017-2018 white hyundais have an extended warranty coverage but the dealers i called either didnt call back or told me they dont do it because they just dont want to. Thank you for your guidance!

My is 2017 and the extended warranty expires in August 2023, i have an appointment on August 30th I know they going to BS me but I’m going to try, I’ll never buy Hyundai or kia ever again, I know lots of other brands suck but kia and Hyundai are ridiculous, the amount of issues i had with this piece of junk is overwhelming

I want to know if I can skip the bondo body filler, and just sand the body to metal, apply thin primer layer several times, sand it, apply white base layer and the rest like what you did. Is skipping body filler bad for the job? Thanks!

This is great! I only wish I found this in the summer when the paint peeled on my kia Sorento instead of now in Quebec winter 😅 hopefully I can find a winter solution and fix this in warmer weather.

Your welcome Brother 🙏 and Wait AT least 5 minutes and by hand ITs the same méthod Except That you Will need a Sand block to put your Sandpaper on ( to make sure everything is flat) and for the compound you just need a lot of elbow Grease and a couple of microfiber

White paint loves to chip and peel. Soaking your can of clear coat in Hot water before start helps with the clear coat issue.

Yeah its call bleeding when you gonna wet sand it will make a smooth transition even if sometime the color match is not perfect its à 100x better than the primer keep flying away :)

I believe there is a warranty for this but only applies to 2017-2018 white Hyundais. The dealership is supposed to hire a shop to fix it. And they will only repair the panels that are actually peeling/bubbling. Unfortunately the entire car will start to peel eventually because the clear that they use on the entire car is bad

Was Your SWP paint an exact match? I had mine mixed at the paint Shop and the shade looks much brighter then OEM. I have 2014 Kia. U can see the difference for sure.
Swp is real hard to match mine is not perfect but look Great no body cant Tell if i not show There where to look
Ideally it would be best to give the paint time to level and release the gas before applying coatings. Overall Excellent job

You are welcome ! And instead of the boffer you and go with Elbow grease and do all the work by hand its just 5x longer sometimes marketplace you can get it for less than 50$ and for the paint code just call the dealer with the serial number they gonna tell you the paint code

Only thing missing is the time between primer/paint coats. hours,days, weeks? Obviously the manufacturers are not doing it correctly since many brands, gm, honda ,kia, hyundai are having this problem.
You are right brother I miss this step I wait 10 minute between coat and 30 between primer/paint and 1h paint/clean coat

Thanks for your comment ! And the answer may depend if you Do IT all by hand IT Will cost you around 150$ for everything , paint , putty , sand paper , buffing compound and wax ... But if you dont have the tool AT Home i suggest you the use market for a Rotary Sand machine and the buffer ... for both can be around 60$ and New IT can cost Up to 150$ just for the both tools ! Hope That IT Will help you
My white elantra is like that but I've ignored it for a while and it's gotten real bad. It's all rusted up. I'm debating if trying to paint it is even worth it at this point
In this case its hard to make thing gone worst but when the rust show Up i a gamble to Do this for nothing and have bubbling paint

Regarding the sanding machine you use: is it a Finishing Sander (no rotations just oscillations, like Makita XOB02Z) or Random Orbit Sander (like XOB01Z )? Thanks.

Well there is no dent. He'll need to use filler before I prime paint it and clearcoat it? I picked off the pit as you suggested so my question is, do I need filler or do I just do all of the other steps that you suggested when there is no dent? Thanks again for this. You are right , IT seem like nothing is left on camera but There IT is a thinny bit ...just enough to fill the dent and thank for your encouragement
I have a similar sized area that I will need to do when the weather is warmer. What do you think the total time would be for this size of a job for someone doing it the first time?
I Will suggest to Wait for a warmer temperature something close to 20°C or 68°F and overall That take me 2-3h ~ including the drying Time ... Good luck

I’m finished with the all the priming and I’m going to order the paint but yeah when you say base coat and pearl coat I wasn’t sure if “base” coat was like a ground coat and the pearl paint follows or if the base coat was also pearl

The base coat is really the color (white) and the pearl is a kind of clear with pearl in it they are distinct spray can so you a a can of primer an other for the color , an other for the pearl and the last one for the clear coat ... and for the paint I get I to m'y local car part seller... they sell car part and paint stuff ... I hope that respond to your questions
