We shouldn’t have to repair the paint on our vehicles. As much as these damn Manufacturers are charging us for them the paint should be the least of our worries and the manufacturers should have to repair EVERY damn car with defective paint!!!! No matter what year it is!!!! J/S
Anyone knows of a lawsuit action against Toyota for these crappy paints they have sold their cars with? I would want to join! It’s honestly stupid to expect a 10 year old well kept car starts peeling off paint everywhere!
Honda Pearl white paint on our 2015 Fit has awful paint issues. The dealer tried to pin on us and said we missed the recall window. Sadly we did not receive announcements to resolve it during the recall process. :(
I have the same EXACT Blizzard Pearl Toyota Sequioa Platinum, and it just started to peel. Also, my Toyota Avalon did the same thing. Thanks for taking the time to make this video for the rest of us.
@toyotafanatics1 Thanks for your response. On my Sequioa, it is peeling right above the windshield, on the roof. It is in-between the sunroof and the windshield. On my Avalon, it is flaking, not peeling, but flaking on the right rear panel. I also have a Lexus LS460 L, Blizzard Pearl, that has NOT shown any signs of peeling, but I am terrified of knowing that it could start. Again, thanks for your reply.
You did a really nice job on this. It looks great. I had a similar issue with my Honda Pilot. Spent all day repainting and a few months later it peeled again. Took it to the dealer who repainted the top of the car. Lasted longer but it’s peeling again. Leads me to believe it’s an issue (at least on the Hondas) of an issue with the base coat which isn’t allowing the paint to hold fast. Much luck to you for longevity of this fix.
I have a 06 pilot have to take it to the bare metal then use epoxy primer won't have further paint failures. The body shop usually gives a lifetime warranty against paint failures I would have returned it to them they are a professional body shop used urethane paint no way should have peeled again.
I will be trying this on my RX-350, the paint on my car is doing the exact same thing, and its pearl white as well. Such an eye soar for sure but this was very helpful!! Thanks for sharing all the “coats”that will be needed🤣🫶
Hopefully you can get motivated and repaint the areas and make it look normal again.. I bought the paint kit on ebay, and i was going to send you the link for your Kia Sorento, but there’s a few different shades of white.. but they’re all on there. good luck! 👍🏼
This video is very helpful. I will be needing to do this as the paint is peeling right off the trunk of my 2016 Hyundai Elantra. I have never had any of my cars that I have for a long time paint peel like this. I thought it was just me until I started researching and everyone with this color has the same issue. You guys did a great job. It looks beautiful. I appreciate this video’s visual to see how it’s done.
Paint the trunk as soon as you can and trade the thing in. This happened to my elantra as well. Started at the hood. Got it painted and decided to keep the car.now, every single pannel on the car has paint peeling.
@ I tried it with another kind of paint. It did okay. It definitely didn’t turn out as nice as his did that’s for sure. I will have to try again and this time try the paint he used in here.
as a lifetime automotive painter i can guarantee after looking at his sanding prep that paint was not properly feathered. in fact it still had jagged edges that appeared still ready to peel. i found that simply taking strips of gorilla tape and placing on the edge where it stopped peeling and pulled it still removes more loose paint. i kept doing it until there was no more paint on the tape. then sanded and feathered the edges so each layer was at least 1/4 inch apart that's primer to base and base to clear. if you don't you won't know if you have reached the point where the paint is securely bonded from where the peeling stops. this is currently happening on our 2016 chevy trax boracay blue metallic paint. along with what appears to be all model years same color vehicles from 2015 thru at least 2019 maybe more years. now there are thousands of ticking time paint bombs still waiting to go off. the problem like a lot of others is the cars are made outside the usa. mine is from south korea. and there are no osha, laws, regulations on how they screw up the painting process. the problem with mine is they used solvent primer that was not dried and cured enough. and applied the waterborne/ waterbase base coat over it too soon. for some reason it took 4 yrs to peel. i'm still getting peeling and just sand and prime for now until hopefully it stops. then i will apply paint. only time will tell. the tape idea just speeds up finding the end of the peeling. but may not completely. its possible the bonding failure will continue to spread over time. my advice is to not mix waterborne/ waterbase anything with solvent or epoxy. they don't use waterborne clear simply because its not durable enough. far as im concerned neither is waterborne base.
Thanks for letting us know about that here in California i know one of my friends told me about some paints and clear they don't sale here in California and paint shops won't ship it to California they say waterborne base paint is good now but when they first came out there was a lot of issues with it but thanks for letting us know and have a Great Blessed Day
It will peel again but for a quick job looks better then it did. If you want to do it right have a place to do it remove everything down to the bare metal then epoxy prime, base and clear most don't have a place to do that without getting everyone lives around you upset with the smell of strong solvents. I used to run a media blasting business removing paint used crushed glass worked great leave a nice rouged finished primer stick to. Didn't warp metal crushed glass will not do that. It was a hard work looking back I would have done lot better if I just invested the land in real estate.
I realized you did a great job on your car my friend. I am looking for help to do the same thing. I would be happy to know what to use and all the steps, unfortunately you hadn't showed nor explained anything clearly. I will keep watching other videos, so an other dude can help me.
*We have a gray Toyota Sienna, and the headlights were hazed over and yellow. So, I wet sanded down to 4,000 grit and used the clear coat you used. The 2K stuff. ($40 CAD/$30 USD), which is astronomical. One use, too. Wow!! But 3 coats and these headlights look brand new. $40 ($30 USD), and we have new headlights. The clear is UV protectant, as well.* 👍
Nice job!! Going to give this a try!! I have an 08 Lexus IS350, with “Starfire Pearl white”. Paint code 077. It’s starting to peel also- not so bad but it will expand. Reached out to Lexus headquarters, they said no originally because 1. Not paint code recalled, 2. It is an 08. But the rep said to go get a quote at a shop. The estimate was $4200. Called Lexus back… and they said no! 🤷♂️🤦♂️
I sanded with 400 grit sand paper, cleaned with window cleaner, then spray painted with Duplicolor color match spray. I used piece of cardboard as a mask. It turned out waaay better than I thought. It's not the right way but it was quick and less effort. For $600 car, it's great
I’ve got a 2013 Avalon that was partially repainted under a recall/warranty by Toyota during Covid. I’ve got more paint beginning to peel a couple years later. I need to buy one of these kits.
I don’t understand the need for this video. You’re not explaining anything sandpaper grit numbers. I mean most of us that come here already already know the procedure but a lot of people would like to know what grit to start with what to end with what to use for wet sanding, things like that.
Will definitely try this my Toyota RAV4 has peeled twice. It was still under warranty. They painted it twice. It just started happening again. They said the warranty is over. They won’t do anything. It’s right on the passengers door and it’s definitely an eyesore, but my fear is we do this a couple months later it’s gonna happen again another spot. It’s just so annoying .

@@toyotafanatics1 any time! Does Mrs. Fanatic’s Seequoia have an upgraded CarPlay head unit. I have been exploring options for my Tundra however it has the factory Bose. Alike the Platinum Sequoia. Apparently there are a few hoops to jump through with regards to additional components to ensure the factory Bose amp can be restored. (iDataLink Maestro) Curious to know if you have explored this option?
I’ve got this issue with my Tacoma, so this is a lifesaver! I was just quoted over $1900 to fix it so I would love to be able to do it myself! Would you mind linking the kit that you bought?
Bummer to hear you’ve got paint issues too.. i’ve noticed those tacomas start shedding by the driver and passenger window frames.. You probably need the super white (040) kit.. here’s the link: www.ebay.com/itm/115897121046?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=noi4E82DT9W&sssrc=4429486&ssuid=7znpTDOfTJ-&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY
I wet sanded it afterwards with some 1000 and 1500 grit.. definitely give that a try, should clean up the lines.. but i’m sure it looks good, anything is better than peeling paint!! 👍🏼
Toyota should recall and repaint all of these cars. My RAV4 IS ABSOLUTELY EMBARRASSING. HOW YOU CAN BUILD SUCH GREAT CARS WITH SUCH HORRIBLE PAINT IS BEYOND ME. WAKE UP TOYOTA AND STOP LOSING YOUR LOYAL CUSTOMERS.
Hyundai too 😭 it’s the white pearl paint.. it’s several makes. I have a 2019 Hyundai sonata. So awful. My hood is peeling, & now my actual roof it makes me so upset
Toyota's are not know for having great factory paint jobs. Don't get me wrong, they look great when they are brand new. But they just don't last very long at all. Their paint chips very easily and it also starts to fade rather quickly if its in the sun a lot no matter if you wax it regularly or have it ceramic coated. The sun is its biggest enemy. I wish Toyota made their paint with the same quality as they made their dashboards. And it doesn't matter much what color you have. Yes, some colors seem to fair better than others but its the thin weak clear coat that Toyota uses on all of their cars that is its biggest problem. I think European cars paint jobs are the best personally. It just seems like they use a lot more paint on their cars compared to most Japanese cars. I hope that quick fix paint job works out for you. I would be worried that your going to keep having more failed paint on those cars and that the paint is going to start looking real patchy if it doesn't already. There is no way for anyone to really see how well the paint matches from a video. You would have to be there to see it to be able to judge it. I considered doing what you did but my paint isn't peeling in certain places. Its clear coat is fading everywhere to the point now that when I wash the truck, red paint is starting to come off on to my towels when I dry the thing and there are spots now where you can see the grey primer because the paint just rubbed off with a towel and soapy water. I tried a ceramic coat but that didn't work for very long as I had hoped it would. So its just time to do some serious shopping around for an entire quality paint job better than the factory provided. I'm going to stick with the factory color but I'll use a better quality paint if I can and definitely use more clear coat than the factory put on it. I'll strip the entire truck down myself and have it towed to get it painted. I don't like masking things off and not painting the stuff underneath the mask. I want the entire Truck if possible to get sprayed if possible. I might miss some parts like behind the dashboard but I'm planning on stripping my truck as much as possible. My T100 has been an incredible truck for me and its still deserving of an incredible paint job since I don't ever plan on selling it. I just wish I new the paint was going to fail earlier so that I could have had it done before it started to fail. But at least now I wont have to sand it down as much since the majority of the paint is washing off almost like its been painted with water color.
It would be super helpful if you listed the paint brands/kit you used. Anyone have a idea?? 13 carolla is peeling like a banana and i need to get it done its so ugly
Thanks for the video. My 2014 pearl white Honda is peeling. I’m gonna try myself after getting a $2300 quote. How long to dry between steps (primer, paint, and clear)? Thanks

If you have a white Hyundai, kia, or other Japanese - Korean you can most most time get it redone by factory for free!! There’s a recall on most of those cars with white paint peelings and I don’t believe there’s a time span on it. Call your dealership. I’ve been having issues with my silver Hyundai Sonata started on 35,000 miles but since we don’t drive the car much we didn’t qualify for the five year/60,000 miles warranty, although we had under mileage yet the five years past and so they wouldn’t warrantee it. We’ve been fighting with Hyundai for two years on this and no matter what there’s no resolving, but if it was a white paint job I would’ve had it gotten it done for free. So I recommend you call your dealership and ask about the recall and get it done for free so you’re not doing it. Good luck
nice work on the paint repair. it is 605 pm cst and the wife and I are driving to Texas tomorrow morning to pick up a 2ND gen Sequoia for myself. we had to go all the way to Dallas, because for some reason you can't find a 4WD Sequoia in Louisiana. first is the lift, wheels and tires. she is a standard black, so any suggestions on the combo of wheel and tire package? then a full 360 dashcam system, because people here cant drive. we will be passing the 1st gen down to my son.
That’s awesome to hear, definitely worth the drive for that 4WD!! so you say it’s black huh? i definitely have some ideas on wheel/tire combos but lemme think this over.. not sure if your into bronze wheels, but could look amazing, definitely a ton of good options.. lemme know how it all goes.. 👍🏼
Horrible! Didn't leave a link or anything! I tried to pause the video and zoom in when he was waving the can around but it didn't help. This video could've been 1,000% better if he had given links to all the products he used! 😢
2012.Toyota Corolla in white, paint is coming away from the primer coat in small (2cm) random spots on the roof only. Definitely seems to be a base coat issue, the primer coat beneath is as new, This model is from Japan so am surprised at this quality issue, the Australian made models with the water based paint technology had no such issues even after twenty years.
It’s so great you can paint cars with a cans of paint hey my brother did one of his GSX are 750 all white. And it look great He has a shop where they do everything the kind of work body work all that stuff and he had his painter clearcoat it but he painted it with I can’t remember exactly what paint he used but he clearcoated it and they break it on my God you know what a shop does he did that just because of rocks and stuff and riding real fast
You'll need 600, 800, 1500. Use all three to feather the paint, use wet 600 so smooth the primer. Be gentle, the primer comes off with very little pressure, just make sure its smooth before painting!
@scorpiondardevil7440 you can dry sand to remove paint. But blending always do wet. Especially with primer always wet, start with 600 and use the 1500-3000 to buff and blend

I had same issue, first time they repainted roof under warranty, after that hood, trunk lids and B pillar started and I lost patience with dealer, I buyed 6$ white appliance paint with primer from Walmart and when chunk come off I respray same day and move on, its freaking appliance that takes me to work and around town who cares.
Do you have any experience with the Base Coat version of the paint? I’m stuck between getting either the Primer/Base Coat kit or the Primer/Ground Coat/Mid Coat kit
My car is in same situation with white paint peeling (hand to face emoji) so embarrassing looking at it. Worst paint job on any car. But car works great.
Sorry i took me so long to reply.. here’s the link, they have all the colors you might need! what vehicle and paint do you have? www.ebay.com/itm/115539918718?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=noi4E82DT9W&sssrc=4429486&ssuid=7znpTDOfTJ-&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY
My rave 4 top is piling. I just called and they said the extended fix has expired 8/23. Is there a list or something we can join to fight them on this.
I've got a white 97' Ford F-250 not even a faded clear coat....sitting in the texas forever. Just bought a 98' Chevy van paint flakes off if you rub your hand over it. What did these auto companies do wrong? ....and....If you fix one spot won't it just flake again somewhere else?? .....
I have a 2013 Triton and the paintwork is piss poor...peeling away...with no signs of dents of chips...this is nothing more than deterioration of poor quality, low grade paint..so this is going to help me out...though I'd like to know about the sand paper you used...
Looks much better. Unfortunately, soon, new blisters and peeling will occur elsewhere, usually hood, top of fenders or along weather seal at bottom of windows. I agree with @bubbabowers8883, these vehicles should be repainted by Toyota or Honda, Dodge and other manufacturers whose paint or clear coat is prone to premature weathering, wearing off.
Wish you would have popped out that dent before painting! And, just incase, don't get ahead of yourself and use the blow dryer directly after painting that area. Wait and do it at the end when the paint is tacky, bc the air will push the paint around. This was NOT from a personal experience, although I do have a 04 White Tacoma and will be doing this fix...it's just basic common sense. Not everyone is born with it! I'm not referring specifically to the channel owner at all, I like the channel and like the content! I'm just saying. 🧠
I have the same issue with my white elantra and they will not pay for it. I wish i had the money to have the entire car repainted. Im now looking into trying to paint the hood and roof myself 😡

(iDataLink Maestro)
Curious to know if you have explored this option?
Agree with everyone. People need to know what your doing. Another how to vid with music and no explanation.
I'm glad my dealer is still going to cover my 2012 Sequoia Platinum. It is peeling all over the place.
Man looks so good! Great job!
Thanks.. hopefully we can jump on some mods soon.. 👍🏼
You probably need the super white (040) kit.. here’s the link:

How do you know what kit to order? I have a 2011 Nissan Quest. Thanks for the video!
It would help to know the product you used
Omg we’ve been waiting for this video 🤩
It looks well done. I wish you consider explaining what you were doing to help those of us who have no idea and want to give it a try.
I just knocked it out, easier than i thought! Howd you get rid of the paint lines?
I wet sanded it afterwards with some 1000 and 1500 grit.. definitely give that a try, should
clean up the lines.. but i’m sure it looks good, anything is better than peeling paint!! 👍🏼
@@toyotafanatics1Where do I find this kit at???
Bro is back!!
How do you blend it at the edge of the new pain and original paint?
It will be nice if you explain the process and what you're using exactly
I will do a more step-by-step video soon, but all the supplies are listed in the description.. 👍🏼
What grit of sandpaper did you use if tou dont mind me asking
I used P400 before painting and then P2000 to wet sand after before compound.. 👍🏼
It would be super helpful if you listed the paint brands/kit you used. Anyone have a idea?? 13 carolla is peeling like a banana and i need to get it done its so ugly
Looks great, thanks for the tutorial and info on this project, I’ll definitely keep this in mind if in case I need to do this!!!
It looks amazing! You made a good job!
I'll try to do the same on my Sonata. I have a same problem with it Thanks for the tutorial!
Great work! My 2013 Frontier is pearl blue and leeling on the top. I need to do this when fall is here...in December. Lol
I wonder how long it will be before it starts peeling somewhere else on the vehicle that still has the original paint.
Thanks for the video. My 2014 pearl white Honda is peeling. I’m gonna try myself after getting a $2300 quote. How long to dry between steps (primer, paint, and clear)? Thanks
15-20 minutes between coats. just make sure the outside temp is 65-80 degrees, not in the direct sun.. you should be good! 👍🏼
I was told it’s the base coat primer issue. Needs to be stripped to bare metal or this is an annual process.
Same with Ford/Lincoln primers on certain years... I would rather strip the whole panel and start from scratch I think
First thank you for the video, if you could please share the website link to bey the pain and clear coat.

@toyotafanatics1 I have a 2013 Honda Accord bumper paint peeling. Can you help me so I can order the right thing?
Good luck
Name of the kit online?
My sonata is sooo bad. Thank you for this
My snow white pearl optima has a huge spot on the trunk. It's gross, I plan on fixing it.
What grit sandpaper is good to use on cars?
nice work on the paint repair.
it is 605 pm cst and the wife and I are driving to Texas tomorrow morning to pick up a 2ND gen Sequoia for myself. we had to go all the way to Dallas, because for some reason you can't find a 4WD Sequoia in Louisiana. first is the lift, wheels and tires. she is a standard black, so any suggestions on the combo of wheel and tire package? then a full 360 dashcam system, because people here cant drive.
we will be passing the 1st gen down to my son.
Hey, can you share the kit you bought for this project? Looking around and not quite finding it. Thanks.
What were the products involved?
Nissan Silver from the early 2000s had this issue
Usually it’s white and especially white with pearls.. silver on occasion.. bummer
how do you color match it?
What sand paper did y’all use my friend has the exact same issue with her paint
You'll need 600, 800, 1500.
Use all three to feather the paint, use wet 600 so smooth the primer. Be gentle, the primer comes off with very little pressure, just make sure its smooth before painting!
@@timmccall4566 sweet so first wet sand with 600 then use the 800 followed by 1500
@scorpiondardevil7440 you can dry sand to remove paint. But blending always do wet. Especially with primer always wet, start with 600 and use the 1500-3000 to buff and blend
Thanks for answering that question, i’ve been slacking on responses.. much appreciated and a perfect answer.. 👍🏼
did you link the paint kit you used anywhere?

Soooooo what grit sandpaper did you use???
I’ve got a 08 Lexus is250 with the same pearl white paint and both my back door panels are peeling right under the windows🤦🏾♂️
No Toyota or Lexus white paint is safe.. bummer
Happening really bad with white chevys, especially around the roof above the windshield
Active warranty on the blizzard pearl paint. Take it to a certified Toyota body shop. Will get a free paint job through Toyota.
We JUST missed it.. we tried so hard, but they stopped the repair campaign a few months ago.. or they just lied and told us that.. i could see either way.. bummer.. but we made the best of the sitch.. 👍🏼
What sandpaper you use ??? Grit?
Sorry i’m late to reply.. i put what i used in the video description..
Good job, you saved yourself.
Now She won't demand new car.
Oh, you also sold me that DeWalt thing.
Got a Nissan peeling, pearl white QAB.
Dang, even the Nissans get the peel.. bummer
Actually a class action suit against Nissan for this@@toyotafanatics1
So you didn't even sand them down with the original paint so smooth things out? Isn't there going to be a line when tape is removed
I wondered that as well
Do you have any experience with the Base Coat version of the paint? I’m stuck between getting either the Primer/Base Coat kit or the Primer/Ground Coat/Mid Coat kit
Mid coat? I’d your car a pearl or metallic?
With pearls, u go primer, base coat white, then spray the pearl, then the clear
What type of sand paper you use
I used 1000 and 1,500.. i’m no pro, but i felt they worked good. 👍🏼
Does anyone know what the clear coat he used? Or the brand ?

My rave 4 top is piling. I just called and they said the extended fix has expired 8/23. Is there a list or something we can join to fight them on this.
Where’s a link to the paint kit?? Can’t find them anywhere….
I've got a white 97' Ford F-250 not even a faded clear coat....sitting in the texas forever. Just bought a 98' Chevy van paint flakes off if you rub your hand over it. What did these auto companies do wrong? ....and....If you fix one spot won't it just flake again somewhere else?? .....
I really hope not, or at least not for a while.. but yes, eventually it will.. 😭
Got 2012 mazda3 pearl white now starting to peel by passenger side door by window. On the driverside😢
Same here. Have same model and color. Also peeling on driver side and top .
My 2018 frontier in white is doing the same
My white Chevy Impala is doing this bad! Can't wait for warmer weather.
My 2003 Chevy Impala LS is flaking pretty bad as well!
I agree with @bubbabowers8883, these vehicles should be repainted by Toyota or
Honda, Dodge and other manufacturers whose paint or clear coat is prone to premature weathering, wearing off.
You are the best. Thank you.
What grit sandpaper?
I have the same issue with my white elantra and they will not pay for it. I wish i had the money to have the entire car repainted. Im now looking into trying to paint the hood and roof myself 😡
It looks great 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Does this work on Honda
Good results!!
Chevy has the same problem 🤬 they don’t leave the primer dry properly before they paint them .
