    Tip: Mix the white base with the clearcoat, then apply 2 or 3 final coats on top. It will match. Also, use 1000 grit min. 400/600
    is way too harsh and will take out your factory paint in no time.

      No, don’t follow what this guy did, you should use much higher grit sand paper, sand the gloss or use a razor blade, and use a cutting compound and polish to finish it off.

    DO NOT sand your car with 400 grit people please.... Also, how do you miss the easiest/most useful part of this process? A little bit of compound and polish!!! Doesn't even require power tools, just hand compound, hand polish, and itll look 10x better than what you have now.

      Are you talking about after painting it because he started with 100 grit. I am trying to do this. Would you be able to give me a list of what grits I should use before and after putting the paint on.

    • @rawcasts
      @rawcasts 2 месяца назад +3

      @@jacksontenny174After paint yes, but I wouldn’t even prep my surface with 400 grit, that’s more for woodwork. Start with 1000-1500 grit, then finish it off with 1500-3000. It all depends on your situation and paint. If you want to be careful just work with a higher grit and take your time and consistently pour water on the sandpaper. Then compound, polish, and you’re all set.

      I have 2 small paint chips above my front wheel on the passenger side. Some big car must have scrapped it with their wheel i guess when getting in or out of bay. So annoying they still got me even if I'm parked inside bay plenty space between lines lol. Does compound treat it or should i go paint it as it looks like i can see the black metal and a bit of white of my red car.

    • @rawcasts
      @rawcasts Месяц назад

      @@alexyuwen If it’s 100 times bigger it sounds like the whole panel needs to be repainted, little touch up paint won’t work and it’ll end up looking worse. Spend the couple hundred bucks to just have it resprayed by a body shop or depending where you’re at there’s even mobile touch up experts you can Google.

    Quick tip for gm cars…. Inside the glove box there’s a “ service parts identification “ sticker and at the bottom left corner there will be
    “ BC/CC U 726S “ that was an example of a Silverado I just did yesterday. But if not all then most Gm cars will have it there.

      @JayOnOneWheel Quick tip for *modern GM cars*.... Where he showed the QR Code is the exact location for this information, on the B-pillar. All aforementioned codes are embedded in the QR code and beneath the QR code (where the paint code is also embedded) on his 2017 year Chevy Bolt it states 8624 which is the paint code for Summit White for this vehicle. Your information would have had someone going on a wild goose chase - where he found the paint code is where it is located and the car only came in one option for white that year. The days of the RPO code sticker being in the glovebox is most often a thing of the past and is typically (if found there) is typically a carry-over from legacy models and not something expected to continue (see aforementioned information on option QR code which is standard on GM vehicles 2018+).

    For paint chips the kit you used is fine, but for the large area with missing paint would have turned out much better if you would have sanded, primed with spray, painted with spray, scuffed up surronding area with Scotch Brite pad, blend clear coat spray into scuffed area. subsequently sanding the clear coat after dry with a very fine sand paper, buff and polish.

    I am working on a similar sized repair on the hood of a customer's car. I'm a detailer not a body repair guy. Color is white like in your video and the paint touch up I got from the dealer is not a good match. My repair is level with the surrounding paint, I used clear after dry, but the clear did not level well at all. This made me decide to wet sand the clear, but even after a full 24 hours to cure, the clear flakes off as I try to sand. Have tried twice. Any advice? The paint alone does not have enough shine especially right on the front of the hood, it really stands out.

    Never sand with metal sand paper without using water during sanding. Pass several incresing sand paper grit that is 800, then 1500, 2000 and even 5000 if you want. Finally polish with any polishing liquid or crean. These steps will make de difference.

    • @Desert-edDave
      @Desert-edDave 3 месяца назад

      This is poor advice as the purpose of wetting the surface when sanding is purely to prevent the paper from clogging and on such a small area, dry sanding the metal to clean any rust off and to texture the surface for paint adhesion is fine. 5000 is superfluous for such a repair and also poor advisement.

    While it makes for a good video because it's the least possible reflective color and also in the shade (thus preventing any reflections... it's better to not cut an inch of your paint away to bare metal with a razor blade. It hides the damage unless you're looking for it but any sort of a darker color and this large gash would be more noticeable than it already is.
