I really like that you're straight up about not even doing this on a 5-6 year. Honesty that this isn't a perfect looking or permanent repair is really good to see.
One thing you might want to include when using those spray max 2K cans is that once you pop that internal canister, you’ve got about 36 hours before that can is a brick. I know you used the Eastwood version, but it’s the same thing. There’s a company called Car Rep that has a 2K clear with “infinite” shelf life. It uses the moisture in the air to cure.
Outstanding video for my 2011 RAV4 with 190,000 miles on it and a few chips that I can't stand. The chips are in areas that can't be isolated to one body panel - I want to fix one of the front pillars, not the whole roof that it's welded to. And most painting videos give advice to paint an entire section that *can* be isolated. Thanks for this video!
Hi Brian, that was so helpful, I really appreciate why blending the clearcoat is so important to a near invisible repair ! Blessings from the U.K. my friend! 🇬🇧
I want to thank you for all the videos you put out. Your detailed videos gave me the confidence to tackle my 95 mustang this winter. I had lots of little areas of scratches, chips and even where some A-hole keyed my fender. Your suggestions led to paint job I can live with.
Totally true what you esplain..there are diferent ways..maybe there are..but it works for me and for you...awesome explain..the new painters laugh at me...but they will reminding of my and your works...
Awesome work as always Brian I'm so glad there are guys like you showing these simple repairs and explaining where they have a value and place in are industry as a mobile painter we get a lot of negative comments about are work methods alot of ppl just don't understand value comes in many forms some ppl value high quality top notch repairs and other ppl value fast convenient and affordable repairs even if there not the best. as there are lots of cars out there that need some work but it just doesn't make sense to spend a lot on them your videos are great at showing ppl there are alternatives that may be just what they need.
My 2009 Vibe GT was repainted. I’ve had to touch up my hood about 100 times. Looks great in bad lighting decent in daylight. Would love to learn minor dent repair.
Good educational video. I've been searching for a bumper repair video for a spot on the rear bumper of a 2010 Honda just to get rid of the black spot. It seems the method may be different from metal and rubber/plastic.
No matter what I can't get the paint to blend. when I start sanding it looks like the paint just starts coming off and there is a noticeable line difference between the new paint and the old.
Can you make a video breakdown of selecting primers/base coat/clear coats for a project? Like what keywords to look for, and what to ignore (i.e. urethane primer, dtm sealers / high solids clear / "euro" clear / etc)
All that work for a couple of spots. I would have taken the easy way and just painted the spots and clear coated it. But nice job and very well explained. Nice garage too. That helps.
Brian, what would you do for spot surface rust that's part of a larger area being painted? I live in Hawaii. If I don't cover the sanded metal area with primer right away the rust will come right back. It's a smaller spot and part of a larger area that's not ready for primer yet. Is there a special spray to just stop the rust & treat the area until I have a day, no wind or rain, to finish the rest of the job? This is with rattle cans. Mahalo Nui Loa
been really tempted to spray can my 2002 RSX/Integra, most of the clear coat are gone anyway and the color is faded really badly (the infamous Milano Red) so I guess I have nothing to loose, the spray cans will probably cost more than my car LOL
Love the notes at the end! Is there any way we could get some counseling on repairs? For example I have some road rash on the side skirts and I'm not sure how to address that.
Great video! Just bought a 2022 Chevy Malibu that had only 43,000 miles on it. There are some chips in the paint on the bumper, which aren't horrible, but they bother me. What would you suggest that I do to get them removed since my car isn't that old?
I have a 7 year old mazda cx-5 with one or two chips that have rust in them. Want to fix it myself so I can learn. Do you have a video on the touchup repair?
If you’re doing this on a lower part of a bumper do you recommend clear coating the whole bumper to reduce the change of that line coming back as the clear coat would be more even and thicker?
Hey, great video also i never thought of using UV filler!! Quick question, you mention rust around 4:25 I have a car with a few rusty chips that i want to repair. I plan on taking the chips back to bare metal and then using UV filler and spray base and clear coat followed by a cut polish and wax. Will this work? Is there a danger of rust if I use UV filler?
Do you have a video on repainting an old roof top that is starting to show rust? It’s my 2007 Ford F-150, and I’d like to do my own repaint job to it, because I’m not worried about it being perfect, I just don’t want it to completely rust on me.
Excellent work and lesson. I am curious on a couple things. I see you using the eastwood 2k clear when you are doing aerosol work. Have you used the spray max 2k glamour before? Thats what i currently am using and am curious if the Eastwood is better or the same. The other question is what was the electric DA you used when you blended with the 1500? Thank you for your time and like maby others , i appreciate your excellent work and clear description with all your videos. It has certainly helped me take my work to the next level.
Body shops around me quoted me between $5,000 and $11,000 to just paint a few spots on a 7 year old car. 4 different body shops. Very minor paint work. No body damage. So...if you have some goobers on even a newer car, and you can fix it in 4 or so hours and $100 in paint and supplies, I say eff the hogs at the body shop. You just paid yourself $1,000 per hour or over $2,000 per hour by fixing it yourself. Even if it doesn't come out perfect, it is unliely to look worse or any worse than globbing on touch up paint with a brush, or unrepaired. It didn't used to be that way. Used to be that body shops would just do what was needed and try to give you a reasonable price. These days, body shops are right up there with most car salesmen, who get thier jollies over screwing customers.
Bought 2 oz jar of Grand Prix white for my 1982 911. The paint is too thick. Any recommendations for where to get small quantities of reducer to thin it?
Hey Brian just I have a question.Going to paint my 2011 Silverado and I’ve taken some spots to the metal and filled the dents with filler and sanded them out.Rest of the paint is in good condition but just old and dingy.Question is do I just use like a 600 grit and knock the clear coat off and then paint or do I need to primer the whole truck.Any info would be greatly appreciated?Love the channel.
That was awesome! I just picked up a daily driver Scion that needs the hood and roof re-cleared. The clear has fogged and looks dry but isn’t chipping or cracking, I’m gonna try scuffing and spraying it with 2k clear. Any tips?
Dumb question but what do I do if it is a newer car? I've got stone chips on the bonnet of a white Mazda6. I've heard the Mazda white colours are nightmares for repair. Do you recommend forking out the extra cash for a professional respray/blend? Cheers.
I'm trying to paint some small trim pieces on my car and everything goes fine until the clear coat. I'm using the Eastwood 2k aerosol and it is coming out with horrible tiny orange peel. I have tried spraying multiple ways from super light to super heavy and having no luck. What am I doing wrong?
Rattle cans are not gonna be able to atomize like a hvlp gun so you’ll probably gonna need to wet sand and polish. You might try spraying in lower ambient temps though to allow it more time to flow out and self level
Great repair! Why does every know-it-all on the interwebs say you can't apply a 2k product over a 1k product? Why does that logic not apply in this instance? Thank you!!
I did not see the polisher you used in your list. The random orbital one that you said had enough RPM to polish out the 3000 grit sand paper scratches. What do you recomend that wont break the bank. Im doing a 1 time surface rust repair to the roof of my 2001 dodge dakota.
If my car was that bad I wouldn't touch it. I would do this on a newer car before I would a beater like that but if I was going that far I would probably just paint the whole hood.
@@PaintSociety , if that is the one that you'll recommend please share the model , or anything else that you think it might be good to sand a complete vehicle, I been watching your videos and I'm planing to try paint my son car , he had an accident the car is put back together with parts on different colors I'm planning on painting it solid black or great , also planning working on my work truck , so I think I can give the tool some use , thanks for all the info in the videos 👍. Does the car rep 2K have the nasty isocyanates like the Eastwoods and spraymax 2K ?
That's a good question.
@CP_FPV no it does not.
I’m pretty sure he knows
@@buddyrebel_Garcia I know Brian knows. I simply suggested he point that out so viewers understand
Just painted half of a bumper due to a fender bender. Your videos helped a ton! The bumper turned out great and all is happy
Awesome!! Congrats!
I have a 2008 Honda Accord that I'm doing now but I have to wait for warmer weather. My garage isn't heated. Thank you for making this video!!!!!!!
You can do it!
You are definitely a maestro sir, paint guns and rattle cans. Maestro. Perfecto!
Don’t overthink it 😊 Beautiful

It takes time but ive used a match an filled in the chip with paint and build it up then dab clear and wet sand

Thanks Brian excellent explenatoin always thanks 👍
That csi works really well, but it loves a brand new damp wool pad. No further polishing needed once it heats up
I really like the UV filler idea, but haven't been able to find it around, just online.
What would be the drying time for the dupli color before adding the 2k clear on wont it have a reaction

This exactly what spray paint cans are for. Any bigger major paint repairs or refinish need a body shop.

Good video Brian from KaapStaad in Suid Afrika
What sanding machine your using please thank you
Will this paint and clear work on a primed bumper cover
Great job, Benny Safdie, but be aware that with a repair like this you REALLY need to have the same base color, which is very hard not to notice
Brian what electric orbital sander did you use?
I have a 7 year old mazda cx-5 with one or two chips that have rust in them. Want to fix it myself so I can learn. Do you have a video on the touchup repair?
I keep reading that 2k can’t go over fresh acrylic.
Has it held up over time?
And what pads and adapter are you using too
I would recommend eye protection when using that UV light bro
Was that the Bauer long throw polisher?
What’s the sand paper grids?
Great video! Thank you for sharing!!
Thanks for watching!
The lower (lowest) part of my front bumper has 1,000 rock chips. Can you show us an easy way to fix this kinda problem? Love the channel Brain

Wouldn't you want to use upol blend 9 on the edge of your new paint to old paint? I am just curious 🤔
Same here but I think maybe it's not always necessary
On that first 2000 grit sanding job at 8 minutes was that totally dry? Not wet sanding?

yeah start with rotary then finish it with rotary, sandit with machine, such a DIY :D how mucch cost to have those tools? 2k usd?
Amazing Brian.
No problem to use a DA polisher to wet sand. Much safer for people than that rotary killer.
Yeah- even a 3” rotary. Rotary is best for large, open areas (and a lot of paint to cut-down).
Hi brian. Just a quick question. Can you please tell me how long does it take to paint a full car normally? Thank you.
