BOBBY WHITLOCK that AMERICAN core that he brings to every gifted musical experience thats what ERIC CLAPTON AND GEORGE HARRISON RECOGNIZED and wanted to be part of GOD BLESS AMERICAN MUSIC
Close your eyes and tell yourself this performance is from 1970; not a hard sell. Bobby Whitlock is the man. Love everything he's done and continues to do.
Ok I know I’m gonna get some pushback but in my humble opinion the line up of Eric Clapton, Bobby Whitlock, Carl Radel and Jim Gordon were the best 4 piece band going.
Had they toured more extensively, finished that second album and not had so many drug issues then they could have been. As it is I think they're bettered by several line ups, not least a certain little band that consisted of Paul Kossoff, Andy Fraser, Simon Kirke and Paul Rodgers.
@@kevinjohnbetts Free was another great band from that era. One of my favorites also. I see your last name is Betts, just like the last name of my all time favorite band Allman Brothers. All of us who grew up during the 60-70s sure had some really good music to listen to Thanks
@@wecandobetter9821 I wish I could claim relation to Dickie but I've never been able to find a connection. I like the Allmans but not enough to follow them (I only have a compilation CD and the Fillmore album). They did spawn Gov't Mule who I nearly nominated as another great four piece, at least in their current incarnation.
Next time I’m in Texas I hope to see Bobby Whitlock. Although my wife not into music like me she really likes the song It’s to late on the Layla album. Whitlock nails the vocals on that song
Such a soulful, incendiary song! Many, rightfully, reflect on the Allman/Clapton connection, but for myself, Bobby's input gets criminally overlooked...love his work!
Have been watching his chats on RUclips all Pandemic. Great story telling from he who created so much that we love. Highly recommend for all rocknrollers and music history lovers.
Wow!...1973 I was in my friends college dorm room. " Oh, look, Eric Clapton record, "Layla and Other Assorted Love Songs"... Used to listen to it over and over...The 70's were good times.
Listened to the full album 2 weeks ago and love it. Layla got played so much, never took the time to listen to the album. Can that Tedeschi Trucks for that.
Great Band Not many singers that one line and you know who it is. That powerful voice of Bobby W the one and only. One hell of a performer AND songwriter. Also, CoCo Carmel, been in love with that woman forever , she has been around and a part of so many great musicians and their albums. They team up now, in later life, It's a blessing for all of us. Hang on to Coco Bobby, if not, I'm comin ' for her 😆🤠
As a fan who has followed the music and career of Bobby Whitlock for 50 years now, it is almost incredulous to say that he gets better all the time, but he does. There is a tear in his voice when singing the ballads and a closely and carefully though barely restrained roar when the rockers kick out one after the other. Performance and studio credits second to none demonstrate that he is not only a man of his time, but a man for all time when the notes from the organ begin to swell. Thanks for hanging tough Bobby, cause those of us who call themselves you fans have been hanging tough with you. God bless you and Coco.
Despite my continual pounding of the pulpit for the Carl Radle/Jim Gordon rhythm section, there are some good bass riffs here. Props to the bassist. And the drummer too. Both trying.... but Jim Gordon's snare and funky popping, along with Carl Radle's smooth groves and incredibe, unique (though very subtle) phrasing, will never be equalled! Not on this song, anyhow.
Good lord, Eric Johnson is from another planet! God bless DG, I don't think I could muster the courage to solo in the same state as EJ, never mind the same stage. And DG is a monster player.
The first time I listened to the full Dominoes album (of course I had heard Layla before), I heard this song and immediately thought "Who is singing this song?" I was blown away by BW's voice and organ. What a legend. Pure soul.
Check out the videos he's putting on RUclips. Just short chats on music, musicians, sessions, tours...all that stuff. He is a walking rocknroll encyclopedia. And funny, down to earth. You may enjoy? We've been watching all pandemic year...
Wow they really brought it ! Grissom for the feel Eric for the technique Coco incorporating the backing vocal & horns and Bobby on the B3 singing and playing it like he wrote it 😂. Just Stellar 👏
Looking back it's amazing how much of Delaney and Bonnie as well as Derek and the Dominos was Bobby Whitlock! When I saw Blind Faith, Eric joined B&D for encores, fantastic.
The more I watch this version, the more I like it..... David Grissom has such a great feel for the tune and Eric Johnson compliments him with just the right technical counterplay.... so Layla #1, D&tD's Live version off the double album, and this great cut from Austin. Love ya Bobby and CoCo!
Father Bob on the keys. What a great band, great song, both a guitarists dream and maybe nightmare, man you gotta be on to play this song, Coco's a force. Bobby was truly an integral part of that classic Layla album, what a lineup, a tight unit, if one fell all fell, they never fell, they sort of just went off I guess, must have been a great time of life for them in hindsite.
Depends on how you look at it. Eric went off to nurse a worsening drug addiction. The band broke up and the album didn’’t take off till the band was history.
Such a wonderful talent. Genius and so down to earth humble. Love him in Its Too Late with Eric Clapton. He is way more than what he gets credit for! Love him.
One of my long time favorite singer and musician.Good to see him well.Great version of Why does love got to be so sad. This song still sounds fresh.Phantastic🎹🎙👌👌👌👌👌
What a killer version. Bobby's Hammond technique is peerless, and the band are sooooo on point. And then there's CoCo's sax. Wow. This was the most satisfying eight minutes I'll likely spend this week.
Bobby Whitlock and Eric Clapton sure as hell would be great to see together again. I’d love an acoustic show or a Dominoes reunion. I’m sure Bobby has Jim Keltners phone number. If not, Gianni Russo has it!
This is just so tastefully done by EVERYONE here. The sound is amazing Everyone is on point and working cleanly together. Guitars riffing off of each other, the rhythm section cooking throughout and Bobby and CoCo showing that love does NOT have to be so sad - but a musical force!
The outtro just crushes..... incredibly beautiful. Also give some love to the rhythm section. Both are giving it that original energy that must be there or the song doesn't work.
Absolutely Fabulous! Sounds like you're in your 20's or 30's Bobby, Just STRONG. Great backup, too. I never really heard David much before this, man, what a great fit. Thank you! Steve.
Bobby!, CoCo!, Eric Johnson!, David Grissom! What a performance.
Thank You Lord for Bobby Whitlock & His Also Very Talented Wife CoCo Carmel !!!

Plus he has a sweet jacket. 🎉

Keven, I’ve seen Gov’t Mule in Baltimore when Warren first formed the band.

Grissom and Johnson on guitar ain’t bad! Bobby sounds great!
Lordy! Where is this kind of music today???
Bobby Whitlock is a force of nature, and really carries the energy in this group.
A great day to find some new music!
New to me anyway..

Stephan Bruton, Eric Johnson and David Grissom , on stage at the same time.
Guitar players dream
so much heart and soul in this one. Takes me back to my Young days and the easiness of live back then!
I can't help feeling proud that the stage was full of Austin musicians, all badass. This is why I live here.
I live in NY State and I wish he would tour up here OMG
Love the dog on stage!

I just love how in the moment Whitlock is. He's enjoying himself through and through. 5:21 is so genuine. What a musician.
The Johnson & Grissom exchange was simply incredibly awesome !!
Bobby Whitlock at 5:41 .... the pure ecstasy of communing with a Hammond B-3 when you got the "chops"!

The bass player is crushing it.
Victor Wooten on bass .. the Dudes from another universe
My bad, I meant Grissom. LOL Wooten is in my top 5 bass players though.
Despite my continual pounding of the pulpit for the Carl Radle/Jim Gordon rhythm section, there are some good bass riffs here. Props to the bassist. And the drummer too. Whew....that poor old Hammond B-3 has seen much better days cosmetically but it still sounds sensational under the leadership of Bobby.
The guitar reminds of winter mick Taylor and that’s a huge compliment to say there is no god never listened to Bobby Whitlock or saw secretariat
Let him loose as soon as possible with a band like this and get Eric to join them he’s a genius both on keys/Hammond organ and vocals
I want a purple b3!
belongs to the late Ian MacLgan
What a great writer uncredited kick ass Singer Writer B3 Player. He can work as much as he want with the right Mgt. Yeah

Nice Job Lady and Gentleman. ive owned the Layla album since 1983 . i know i was late , but had heard it all on the radio since middle 70 s.

You mean Jim Gordon and he’s in prison still
@@ctrlyoda4581 i mean, because Jim Gordon is in prison, a great choice for a Dominos reunion would be the great Jim Keltner.
