You know what sucks? No radio station in America would even play bands like Cream, Derek and the Dominoes, Delaney and Bonnie, Allman Brothers, etc., if they were just appearing on the scene. Honestly, I’m glad I was around when this kind of music was nearly common place. Awesome performance.
@Joseph Lentz I realize that. I happen to be old enough to remember those years. But what I said was no radio station would even play music like that “IF THEY WERE JUST APPEARING ON THE SCENE.” Meaning now, as a contemporary band. No, we don’t even get to hear people like Gary Clark jr., Derek Trucks / Susan Tedeschi Band, Gov. Mule, Indigenous, or any true rock/blues bands currently producing music. We have to hear their stuff on pay services like Pandora, siriusXM, etc. When was the last time you heard anything played on the radio from Keith Richards excellent recent album or Buddy Guy’s? Instead we get Harry Stiles, Sam Smith, and extreme auto-tune “artists.” Sheer crap. Damn I miss Stevie Ray Vaughan, Eddie Van Halen, George Harrison, John Lennon, etc. I miss Clapton when he was good. Dire Straits... I could go on and on...
@@easy56wedge Well said! I fill my ears and mind with the great music you mention above. There are great bands and shows still available and I seek them out. The current popular "talent" is best at lip sync and pretending to play instruments to a digital feed and also crotch grab dancing.
Late career renaissance for Bobby. Seems like he is reclaiming part of the musical legacy he staked out back in a really fertile time in his life. Stax. Delaney and Bonnie. Clapton. George Harrison. Derek and the Dominoes! Fifty years ago!! Glad he’s still around to enjoy this.
Layla has never been sung as well as when Bobby was in the Dominoes, screaming it out, back in the day.People underestimate his vocal contribution on Layla.😁👍👍
Bobby's voice stood out so much on that album...PLUS, he cowrote the songs with Clapton, Clapton himself said Bobby Whitlock had the strongest voice out of all of them.. His 'Thorn Tree in the Garden"...C'mon...what a better way to take that album out. all of that riotous guitars, then just a couple of acoustic guitars and Bobby singing. that was GOLD 🤗✌
@@truckerkevthepaidtourist Not all, but yes Mike was the high tenor and I think made the backing vocals so strong for VH., Know that in the studio , all sang the backup Dave, Mike, and Eddie. Alex was the only one who never sang.
Cool and original reworking, with Bobby Whitlock, the most prominent "Domino" behind "Derek," actively asserting his justified authority in the creation of this classic.
This version absolutely kicks! I really wish Bobby and Eric had done more stuff together. Even just getting together for the occasional live show these days
In 2000 Bobby and Eric got together for a couple tunes on UK show 'Jools Holland... Later'. Here they are with the house band. ruclips.net/video/fZNL0wvIj78/видео.html
look at the A lister guitar players ....Eric Johnson, et al....Bobby Whitlock co- wrote lot of the songs on Derek and Dominos: he has a Michael McDonald voice: exudes blues
Just found this. Wow Johnson and Grissom on guitar (they could have worked out the first solo a little better). Bobby has the most soulful voice in all of rock 'n roll. Coco is a nice touch.
Next to Duane Allmans amazing slide solo on layla, This is one fantastic version that captures the passion of the original. Only Bobby Whitlock and COCO could pull that off with a great backing band of top notch players!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Eric Johnson would disagree with that statement ive known Eric since 78 and he would shake his head no on that one .. too bad we could not hear Brutons Dumble Steve was good cat,
For all his contributions to some of the greatest music ever, Bobby is rock royalty to me. Never got his due. Great stuff!
it didn't hurt to have David Grissom & Eric Johnson playing guitar either !
Unbelievable, Eric Johnson (Cliffs of Dover fame,) on this one, epic!!--

Quite reminiscent of the Kinks Davies Brothers. Dave has the voice to cut through too.
@@regbale Michael Anthony was in Van Halen. All those vocals you here backing up Dave were all mainly Mike.

Killer version! Bobby and Coco sound great together.
Nothing better than Whitlock playing the B3.
Knowing that Bobby was sort of brushed aside, I'm really glad to see he's getting the recognition for his contributions. Bravo and Brava.
@Bobby Whitlock & CoCo Carmel ............ WOW!!!
Talk about giving it Rice! Incredible performance.
a fresh look at a piece of music nearly unimaginable..recooked .simmered turned breathtaking.even more so....sweet......
What a performance by this sensational band. CoCo Carmel is not just a great saxophonist, she's one hot babe.
Literally who asked

WOW - That's What We Called Music!!
Best version ever! Love the change in tempos.
Another great Eric on strat

Damn, that's some real music! Great take on this song.
Wow, great performance....gave me the chills!
Incredible version.
Great performance of a great song. This is a great band.
Great rendition by legendary musicians
Bobby and Coco letting their light shine before men!🤩✨⭐️🌟💫
Bobby and Coco are awesome. I saw them many times at the Saxon in Austin. Very great music and nice people too.
Well this was different! Amazing!! ❤
Absolutely LOVE their arrangement........... way cool!
She is one good saxophonist. I knew she could play guitar, but damn!
Love Bobby's vocal nuance.
Bravo! Great version of a greatest all-time classic 🎉❤

Me too but I think that era is too difficult for EC to revisit ... I just watched the documentary and wow, he was in a bad way during the Derek years
That's the greatest band Clapton was ever with! The Dominoes were all great musicians in there own right!
nice arrangement, with many of the best musicians on the planet! Like to hear more of Whitlock
What a musically talented beauty!
Hell yeah! What a band!
Great arrangement. Awesome performance by everyone.
my favorite version of Layla ... Bravo !
Bobby rules!! Coco can blow and EJ is incredible..tight band in general and awesome performance by all. Love it lots.
I'm digging the blues verse/rock chorus vibe
Great performance! I especially enjoyed my friend David Grissom's guitar solo
Thanks a lot!
My goodness this version just effing smokes!
As badass as it can get!!
Amazing!
Great song and great musicians!!!
What a beautiful pair 😍
look at the A lister guitar players ....Eric Johnson, et al....Bobby Whitlock co- wrote lot of the songs on Derek and Dominos: he has a Michael McDonald voice: exudes blues
Its the other way around....Mike looked up to Bobby
Stunning.
That was Killer !!!... Bobby & Coco nailed it!!!... Whaler
Bobby kicking ass as usual.
With the great Eric Johnson on guitar!
Other dude ain't no slouch either...that's David Grissom.
This is brilliant.
Excellent
Absolute truth in every note.

❤️ this is superb. Simply wonderful.
Amazing version!
I think that's Brannen Temple on drums, and he doesn't get nearly enough credit. One of America's top ten drummers.
Unbelievable. Straight to the short list.
Got my vote. Great sound !
Fantastic!
Nice interesting performance
wow. I love it.
Awesome
Wow!
Great version
Epic!!!!😃❤❤❤
Eric Johnson on the job ...holy schmoley...wow...
Just KILLIN'!
Bobby Whitlock, ( just ask your ears) all the essence, few of the credits.

Bobby on the B3 and Coco on sax, just kill it here!
That... is one hot version of Layla! Bobby Whitlock & CoCo are fantastic. Thanks for this. When was this concert?

Fucking wow.
Yeah mon

Aha! 2007
Could you upload a HD version if you have one, the sound quality doesn't do it justice. Thank you, amazing version
Baby you wrote a song for my wedding for Mike Miller & me. Could you tell or sung that song. Sincerely Melissa Hartman from Memphis TN. Love you 😍 💗
Nothing like great sax!...Sorry, I couldn't help myself!
I'm sure Clapton loved this.
Did Bobby sing lead on D&D's Layla?
I think Eric sang lead in the verses, then it was a combination of voices in the chorus of Layla.
What treasure Coco and Bobby are.
What year was this?
07
I love her sassy sax. She makes me think of Pink Floyd when she plays
I prefer this to Clapton's version 💙
Funny Eric Johnson isn't mentioned in the title, he is more successful and famous than all of them put together.
Eric Johnson would disagree with that statement ive known Eric since 78 and he would shake his head no on that one .. too bad we could not hear Brutons Dumble Steve was good cat,
When sidemen attack.
THAT AINT NO SIDEMAN
Slow, fast, slow, fast. Like someone playing with the speed control. Pretty good overall, except no pretty Jim Gordon coda.
Shoulda played the piano coda outro - I know Bobby doesn't like it but it's part of the song whether he likes it or not. Other than that it was GREAT!
