It's interesting to see how often it happens that the estate (that hasn't done any contribution to the artist's work as such, whatsoever) of a deceased artist take it upon themselves to "guard" the artist's legacy, with so much, unduly zeal...
Your are the first to touch upon what I have been thinking about... It's all about LIABILITY! Bobby Whitlock is in a similar situation as say Mick Taylor & the STONES. Whitlock & Taylor are obvious heavy contributors to some obviously great works that are now "property" of "Rock n' Roll Corporations. They both were compensated very little for their work. @@thebostonbrawler1 I love Keith Richards rhythm guitar playing that is his strength lead guitar is not. I think anyone who collaborates deserves songwriting credit. Mick Taylor’s time with the Stones was their greatest musical period. With Ron Wood they’re unfortunately more like a really great cover band. They lost their creativity many decades ago. It’s obvious when they keep pumping out live albums and few noteworthy studio albums .
@@docbearmb Its unfortunate , because I loved Ronnie’s playing with the Faces . He does what is needed no more no less. Mick Taylor can still play scorching lead guitar. If he could write great original songs and sang better he would have been a bigger star. He didn’t go in for theatrics like Hendrix but what a great guitarist he is and he made every band better. The Stones were lucky to get him when they did he made them the greatest rock and roll band in the world during his tenure with them. God bless Charlie Watts may he Rest In Peace. Thank you so much for posting this. I watched both Bobby and Cocos videos on this and did find it strange that they had spoken to the Harrison estate and then on the later video, one of them had been taken down. I don't know who is supposed to have a say over credits but if it's down to Danni and Olivia then they should be grown up about it and rectify it. If it's down to the label, which is likely, then it has to change and the Bobby and anyone else who hasn't been properly credited needs to be. I won't be surprised if the latter is true and it doesn't get sorted. Another case of musicians getting short-changed as usual.
One has to wonder if Dhani and/or Olivia knows anything about this? Karma is not just a word, and ignorance of what happens on your behalf is no excuse. Hopefully, someone can remedy this situation. If not, then I have held too high an estimate of their true spirituality. What would George think of this? What would Love do in this situation? Hmmmm.
Karma has nothing to do w/ this, Bobby W has already stated that G Harrison was meticulous about royalties and thru Bobby W's tumultuous life (post Harrison) he had always received royalty chks from GH that seemed to always pay bills like lighting or electrics....

Yes, Olivia and Dhani should step up - if they can. Remember some years back, George was criticized (as were Olivia and Dhani) for not helping George's sister, Louise, when she was in financial straits? In reality, George DID help Louise, but tax laws in the U.S. set a limit on the amount a person can give to a family member (than a spouse or children), before it's considered a gift and subject to taxation. Giving a larger amount of money to Louise would have resulted in a tax on her, which George wouldn't be allowed to pay on her behalf.
@@markprovance8995 actually George's sister declared that she was cut-off from the pension after George's death and that she was not informed about George illness until a couple of days before George's death.

Sadly, we’re slowly losing the direct links to some of the most important times in rock and pop - the 60s and early 70s. The people who were actually there can tell the whole story, straight from the horse’s mouth. Once they’re gone it’s all conjecture and hearsay. No opportunity should be lost to hear them tell their story. And record it.

I had also seen the videos before they removed. them. The only thing I could surmise, as the reason for the "estate" having them taken down, was that Bobby's factual recollection differed from what they had already finalized, packaged, and released for sale to those with too much money to blow on such things. They screwed up on the facts and it's easier these days to silence the truth rather than admit error and remedy their mistakes. Bobby and CoCo are good folks above this sort of crap. Wish I'd have stayed in Texas instead of moving back to California in the hopes of meeting them. Appreciate that you addressed this John!
"They screwed up on the facts and it's easier these days to silence the truth rather than admit error and remedy their mistakes" And can you imagine a sentiment more antithetical to the good-guy image that attached itself (mostly deservedly) to George Harrison?
Thank you so much for this video. I’m a little embarrassed to tell you that it was the Utube algorithm that brought you to my attention. As much as the algorithm irritates me with the out there suggestions, sometimes they bring me true gems. Both you and Bobby Whitlock now have another subscriber. Keep fighting the good fight.

Just watched Bobby's video and was thinking of doing a follow-up on my channel, when I noticed your entry here. Its a travesty that Bobby wasn't included on the ground floor of this ATMP re-issue and now the thing already has a tarnish on it in my view. I think you've nailed it with your rationale for why Bobby's videos have been taken down. In my opinion, they should delay the issue of this anniversary set long enough to get the facts right, rather than knowingly issue something they know isn't right.
Record companies seem to lack the basic understanding that review/reaction videos are literally free promotion and advertising for their products. Any coverage of the music results in increased exposure to both old and new audiences, giving the music commercial and cultural longevity. I think I suspect this is more of a label/rights issue than actual interference from Olivia or Dhani--record companies are notorious for their non-negotiability/inflexible thinking and I feel like I've heard several artists discuss their personal views that they love the ongoing covers/adaptations/reactions but even when they verbally approve things, the companies get the final say and they categorically defer to 'cease and desist' tactics. It's a great way to make your music irrelevant and render your art 'forgotten.'
I agree. Olivia and Dhani seem like genuinely good people. This smacks of typical record company stuff. Olivia and Dhani should overrule all these lawyers and executives. I'm pretty sure George would've.
People have software to make mp3s of the RUclips videos. It’s simple and only takes a minute. Artists have a right to get paid for their work. Maybe you haven’t noticed over the last 26 years, but the music business has lost many millions from illegal downloads.
@@jamess7626 I work in the music business, and these people do not control the record company. I don’t use RUclips under my real name for a variety of reasons. I work in the music business, and that claim in this video is idiotic and false. They haul Olivia and Dhani out when they need extra publicity. The record label has final and creative control, it’s in the record contract.
The bottom line is we got the music all ready in our hearts, no one can charge us a cent, George gave us a message in all his music , Beware of the darkness and isn't it a pity,
How I wish I had watched the Bobby Whitlock videos when I had the chance, yet thank you John for acknowledging some of the musicians on the All Things Must Pass Album, and also sharing some of Bobby's memories. What a shame that he was not consulted for this reissue!

Why have all the videos with Bobby and Coco regarding ATMP 50th anniversary been wiped???? It's disgraceful . Talk about a nanny state. His recollections of these sessions are priceless..I totally agree with this posting.
I listened to All Things Must Pass on Spotify and a small blue tooth speaker and it sounded fine . But I haven’t heard it through a good stereo system on cd or vinyl and apparently that is where the problem lies. It seems from what I’m hearing the remastering of the album wasn’t very well done. The way Phil Spector recorded the album with all that heavy reverb I wouldn’t think it would be possible to totally strip away Spector’s production without stripping away some of the instrumentation. I would like to hear the vinyl version to compare it to the original version but I don’t think I want to spend the big bucks. I don’t appreciate the way Bobby Whitlock is being treated , by pulling down his videos describing the way the album developed , who played on different songs and his opinion of it fans are losing a piece of rock history. It’s really a shame .
It’s not the estate. It’s the people at the label. Selling Beatles recordings and the solo albums the the bread and butter of EMI’s catalogue sales. No one in the business contacts the players like that. They didn’t release anniversary editions to be sentimental, they do it to make money.
In a studio hub in Shoreditch, London, I am the caretaker, gardener. In one of the studios is the graphic design company that has done all the McCartney re issues. They have achieved some serious awards for their work as well. Over the years I think it has been a major part of their work which shows the amount of effort if takes to get these re issues right. I wholeheartedly agree that re badged versions should not be ripping people of, but there is quite a bit of income dished out to people along the line. As the studios in the hub pay service charges, this is how I get my living. So in some small way I get revenue from Paul McCartney(my hero) how good is that!
Interesting Patrick thanks! Here’s coping we get London Town & Back To The Egg archive soon! Funnily enough I am over from Hungary and have just been in Shoreditch record shopping today (Rough Trade, Flashback) - I like the atmosphere around Brick Lane…big contrast from the City!

There was an awesome video John. Very direct, and very much needed. Poor Bobby is getting the short end of the stick. Thanks for calling Olivia and Dhani out on this one. They really need to make this right… Sooner rather than later.
Well the duo shafted George’s sister so nothing new here
It's interesting to see how often it happens that the estate (that hasn't done any contribution to the artist's work as such, whatsoever) of a deceased artist take it upon themselves to "guard" the artist's legacy, with so much, unduly zeal...
Estate?
Your are the first to touch upon what I have been thinking about...
It's all about LIABILITY! Bobby Whitlock is in a similar situation as say Mick Taylor & the STONES. Whitlock & Taylor are obvious heavy contributors to some obviously great works that are now "property" of "Rock n' Roll Corporations. They both were compensated very little for their work. Any actions of these Corps giving these workhorses any creedence of importance or authority would activate the power of so many LAWYERS adept at this sort of "lawsuit thing". A sad & familiar consequence and fallout of a meteoric era in the art of R n' Roll!
@@danielcombs3207 Truer words were never written.
He was a master drummer.
Bobby was there and what he said in His videos was great. George would certainly be ashamed at any negative treatment of Bobby Whitlock!
The biggest problem with the music industry is the people who are in it.
Thank you John for your insight !!!!!
Very interesting analysis and info John, thanks.
@@thebostonbrawler1 Thanks for the clarification. I stand corrected. Cheers.

Good to hear it.😊🎸🥃👍
I concur
Well Done Thank You Sir !!!!!!
Bobby's a pain in the ass too a lot of these people because, 50 years later, he's still alive and trying to set the record straight.
I still like Gary Wright's Dream Weaver even if he's trying to take undue credit
His RUclips videos are complete pointless drivel, imo
Set the record straight 😆😅🤣

Sounds like arrogance and greed to me screw the harrison estate
I applaud 👏 you John for standing up for accuracy & the simple truth ,,, Bobby Whitlock deserves his due recognition & so does ATMP . It is now a historical point in Western Music and as such is owed all the truth it can be given . This new release the 50th Anniversary needs to be put right and be as accurate as can be , there is no honourable alternative. Thank you again for being a shining light on all this,, 🥂Cheers
"Catering to the Michael Palins of the world"...now that's what I call a pricing pain point!
excellent observations, persuasively and modestly articulated.
Great video and thoughts John. I was unaware of much if this. If true, I'll say it...shame on the Harrison estate!!! Cheers Matt
thank you so much for this....❤️
I love Bobby and Coco's channel. Great storytelling from a guy who was THERE for so much amazing music.
Bobby Whitlock is a multi-instrumentalist, soul singer & fabulous song writer! No where near just a basic keyboard player. Get the facts right.
Thanks John - a knowledgeable and heartfelt comment on this lamentable turn of events.
I came here from Andrew Dixon's live stream and I am delighted at:
A) Your spirited defence of Bobby Whitlock and
B) The absence of floods of intrusive mid-roll ads you used to have and which drove me away from your channel some time ago.
As a comment on Bobby and Coco's page said, "They behaved very un-George like."

Please don’t forget to mention Leon Russell being part of this group.
Fritz Cat Yes, I forgot myself...Good Catch!
@@1060michaelg never really understood what the big deal was about that dude

I think Peter Frampton played on some of the songs but, I dont know if they used the tracks he was on?
I’m really missing Bobby and Coco a lot. Hey guys, please let us know how you’re doing. This world needs your voices. Best wishes and prayers for everyone involved. May peace prevail.
I watched Bobby's video on ATMP and it was all positive and heart warming! Good video here John Heaton.
That Bobby has been
publicly telling the stories
like a Village Elder,
complete with breaking into divine laughter and song,
very publicly online
for the past year or so
without Apple
or ANYONE in Beatles Inc
paying serious attention is somehow…
very cool…
VERY George…
Well said. Agree 100 percent. 👍
Grate take on this issue, also Bobby was left out of the concert for George also. So sad.
Bobby should get his credit.
He’s a great artist in his own right.
Dhani and Olivia need to step up.
Thanks John for that nice wrap up on Bobby Whitlock and his major musical contribution to ATMP and historical knowledge of those sessions. I too am a fan of BW's RUclips channel and have learned a great deal from him on those classic rock years. I hope like everyone else that Olivia and Dhani make things right with BW before the albums release. Thanks as always for your insight. William, Parker CO
@@markprovance8995
Right.
@@markprovance8995 actually George's sister declared that she was cut-off from the pension after George's death and that she was not informed about George illness until a couple of days before George's death.
Bummer to learn this, especially as it's now old news. Thanks for the d lo,hope it worked out nicely. Something is really wrong with your soul if you can't get along with Bobby or CoCo...
I too will not be buying any of the new "product"..... not only because it's insultingly overpriced, but also because of the treatment of Bobby Whitlock.
Here's a hint lawyers...and Olivia & Dhani: Thousands of us already saw Bobby's videos, the word is out. You can't bury it. YOU have the chance here and now to make things right - not to cover anything up.
You're not missing much, the remixes are no good.
@@keriford54 From what I've heard I agree... unfortunately. Sounds like someone mixed it in their bedroom on cheap insufficient monitors and didn't know how to properly EQ anything anyway. Embarassing.
Thank you for this. Really. You have nothing to gain except to do the right thing. Respect to you, sir.
Dhani should’ve brought all of the remaining living artists who played on All Things Must Pass and have their input on the remixing or remastering of all things must pass. Truly dreadful remix
"It's all too much." Thank you for the perspective...and I agree whole heartedly with your assessment. and FYI, my comment on Bobby's channel about your video....got Taken Down. Strange days indeed...

Thank you for the concise and well articulated opinion on this situation. I am American, but have Heaton ancestry on my mother's side.
Bobby Whitlock was much younger than everyone else. That's why his memory is so much sharper.
They've got to make this right. Money should be no object. This is history. Even if delays the release. Make it up to the fans for a change. Great review John!
I am so glad that you posted your excellent critique. I hope Dhani and Olivia see it. I wonder what George must be thinking of this. I appreciate you John. Thank you for this and for all your work.
I always tell people when I see them doing wrong "tell your lawyer to see your therapist." (I work at a park in Miami, FL). Bless
They give the impression they are still in Texas, but have moved a few hours west of Austin.

I will not be buying this release, simply because of their treatment of Bobby. It's shameful. George would not have ever let this happen.
But John - why slag Michael Palin?
Thanks for standing up for what is right, Mr Heaton.

Excellent review. Well done !
I’d like to know who played drums on Hear Me Lord.
In my opinion, they should delay the issue of this anniversary set long enough to get the facts right, rather than knowingly issue something they know isn't right.
well said Paul let’s hope eh?
Amen!
Yeah that's record companies for ya.
Tje videos are back up. I watched a few yesterday that were focused on ATMP and Bobby's input.
@@jamess7626 I think George would've enjoyed seeing tributes/covers in different styles from different voices too :)

Will you be buying the 60th and 70th anniversary editions ? George will be reincarnated on the 100th anniversary edition. He will promote it himself.
Why have all the videos with Bobby and Coco regarding ATMP 50th anniversary been wiped???? It's disgraceful . Talk about a nanny state. His recollections of these sessions are priceless..I totally agree with this posting.
The "Estate" cancelled the pension that George had bestowed on his sister.
That's awful
What was that Rutles song "All you need is cash".. somewhat reminiscent?
what about the backup singers and orchestra
Sigh...lawyers...they ruin everything...

I wholeheartedly agree that re badged versions should not be ripping people of, but there is quite a bit of income
dished out to people along the line.

I met George in 1977. Please don't mistake "the Estate" for George.
But George directed and controlled his estate/ assets.
Thank you for making this video John. Bobby has only reminisced about the experience and expressed gratitude for being involved. This is making the Harrison Estate look bad to me. I’d expect them to be gracious and apologetic for not acknowledging Bobby’s contributions.
Well said John!👍
If not for Bobby Whitlock's YT channel, I'd have known nothing of his contributions to D&B, D&D, & ATMP.
His obscurity to this 55 yr old is more a sad statement on record labels fame than on my own ignorance.
