But I suspect a lot of people use too much of the stuff and/or fail to use parchment paper instead of aluminum foil in the drip pan they place on a lower oven rack to catch the portion of the oil that doesn't initially get blown everywhere by the convection fan.

    Have owned my Gallery Induction since April of this year. Never used "air fry" feature until yesterday. Eight bone-in skin on chicken thighs seasoned when dry were the target. Sprayed tray, placed food & put foil lined baking tray under. ThermoPro dual probe thermometer was used. Temp set to 375 on oven, probe alarm for 190. Started from cold with perfect result. Oven was a mess that steam clean could not touch. Used 3hr self clean and Bar Keeper Friend to clean window and baked on crud. Oven was spotless before air fry with 30min cleaning it was spotless after.

    Just wanted to put in my two bits in. I bought my Frigidaire Induction Range in 2022. My wife and I absolutely love it. I viewed this vid and thought "Oh God, this is going to be a disaster". I set up my air fryer according to the mfg.'s instructions and was ready to rock. I sprayed the rack with Pam and lined the drip pan with foil and parchment paper as advised by another poster. Crossed my fingers! My oven preheated in no time to 425. Did not use an oven temp guage. Popped my wings in and set the timer to 30 min. Kept an eye on it. Some smoke, but that was easily taken care of by my hood fan. Timer went off and I pulled the wings. Perfectly cooked. No grease mess on the interior. No 4 hours of cleaning afterwards. Me thinks Frigidaire has listened to the complaints. Happy Cooking!

    No one has mentioned the oily splatter all over the oven. Can I use anything to cover the rack? Frigidaire states not to use foil any where in the oven. I also got smoke coming out using the frigidaure rack. Although I used a smaller air fryer tray from a different brand and my oven never smoked.

      @@missoli100 The only setting I am unable to use without it smoking was Air frying simply because the fan basically blew grease onto the door and it would drip to the bottom. I corrected that by buying a Nordic ware cookie sheet---the one with deep sides and I bought yogi mats so I do not have to use any cooking sprays or anything at all. Occasionally I will still get some ( very little puff) but only for about the first 5 minutes and it clears. Plus I lowered the rack. In hindsight to be honest, I would pass and get the table top fryer and skip the in oven one. Only because my experience might not be yours, or yours might be worse than mine.

      @@missoli100 no no. nowhere near. Before we had to open windows and everything. Now , when it happens, its more like a weak smoke, kind of like when your heat is too high on the stovetop, I guess. and it happens mostly from foods that are higher in fat like pork or chicken thighs. yes you can use it without using the fan. I wouldn't say throw your hands up. They are improving all the time. i got mine a few years ago, so by now they might have upgraded those issues too. Our first try with air frying was not good. Lots of smoke had to open windows to remove smoke to stop smoke detectors. The food turned out great but the oven was completely covered in grease and I had to do the steam clean which helped but did not get rid of all the grease. I ended up doing a full clean before another attempt at air frying. If I didn't and the oven smoked it might be because of residual grease. I worried that was this what would happen every time we air fry. So we examed all we did and eliminated spraying the wire basket, we did not spray the wings with a "light" covering of avocado oil. We waited for the oven to reach 425 using an oven thermometer (when set to 425F the oven initially reached 500F before dropping to 425). We also lined the baking sheet with tinfoil and then with parchment paper. The result was no smoke, no coating of grease in the oven it was perfect. We also covered the wings with flour to absorb the grease from the wings. The next time we will try not to use the flour. Seemed like a different oven absolutely no issues. ;)

    DO NOT run a self clean. Self cleaning and oven is one of the worst things you can do for your oven. I don't know how many times I've had customers self plain and damaged before Thanksgiving. If you are going to use that feature, use it months in advance before a major cooking event. All you need to do is bake at 400゚ for 30 minutes with nothing in it and that will take care of it

    Hi, I am considering buying the new Frigidaire PCFE3078AF that has an air fryer built in. My only concern is how well it self cleans. I currently have a big counter top Ninja that can bake and air fry, but I mostly air fry. I have only had it a year and it is covered in a black baked on substance that I can't get off. The manufacturer says you can only use mild detergent to try to clean it but that doesn't work. I just want to know if the self cleaning mode on the Frigidaire stove gets rid of that. I don't want to buy this stove if its going to end up looking like my counter top air fryer.

      The self clean setting will literally burn everything in the oven down to ash that can just be wiped out. It would really really well and the oven looks practically brand new when done. However, make sure you do it on a day you can open your windows as it does get really hot and smoky but other than that, it’s fantastic!! :)

I did cook 3 chops instead of 2, but they are not 1 inch thick as recommended by recipe. I kept opening door every 6 min to check for readiness. Tip: Be sure to pull the "lower drip tray" oven rack out simultaneously with the upper air fryer basket rack! This prevents drippings from the air fryer basket falling directly on the open oven door when ready to or while removing the cooked food. Also, I use a pair of insulated oven mittens to either remove the entire air fryer basket from the holding rack to a pre-positioned cutting board or parchment paper on the counter. I grab each side of basket and lift it out of the rack, or I use a pair of tongs to remove the food directly from the basket to a serving dish or platter without moving it from the holding oven rack. For me, either way leaves no oven mess. Hope this helps.

      I won't know until the end of the month (backordered). If I am remembering correctly, while I was helping my mother research gas ranges, I saw on the product's page on the Home Depot website that the owner's manual was available (in .PDF format) for reading/downloading, so you could probably find the answer to your question that way. However, there's "a little issue" with trying to use an automatic shutoff function on an oven - it's still going to be at whatever temperature you set it at, after it shuts off. And it will cool down *slowly* , meaning whatever you've got in there will continue to cook. And that means you'll almost certainly want to remove the food from your oven as soon as it has been properly cooked. And, when you do... you can simply press the button to turn the oven off.

      Thanks for asking. It is normal for the fan to run during preheating on standard bake and then pulse on and off after preheat. Don’t worry. It only comes on very low speed during the bake setting and it’s just to help keep heat even in the oven. It will not effect temperature or time on standard bake. I don’t see why you wouldn’t want it to come on as it makes practically no noise and it’s just helping to keep heat even and it’s such a low speed for such a short period of time that it will not effect the way items bake. When using convection bake, convection roast, or air fry, the fan runs constantly at a higher speed. Here is a video of normal operation. ruclips.net/video/ruvXOH8wB1o/видео.html

      It’s not just the use of oil it’s actually the smoke temperature of the oil. Avocado oil has the highest smoke temperature and leaves no flavor on your food. You can get it in a spray bottle. I spray the wings with oil and use the oil to help the seasoning stick. Try that and let me know what you think. 😃

    Thanks for the video. I picked up one of these oven earlier this week, air fried 2 dozen home made chicken wings in it last night. The wings were great, but the mess was not worth it. Grease all over the over and the racks. I probably did 4+ hours of clean up. Any tips on how to contain the mess? I barely used any oil and did have a pan underneath.

Also, how does one get the racks clean? I’ve hand washed many times but that does not get off baked on grease. Help.

    Question, when our oven is on bake only the fan still runs, I thought it only ran during convection bake and air fry, what gives?

    • @videogamesandmore6948
      @videogamesandmore6948  3 года назад +1

    • @videogamesandmore6948
      @videogamesandmore6948  3 года назад +1

      Unfortunately, your not going to like my answer but for the model you have, it’s normal. However, I think it’s absolutely ridiculous and it should definitely run constantly for proper air frying and evidently, Maytag and Whirlpool don’t think so. You see the problem here? Multiple people have been complaining about this for years about their convection and air fry ovens and apparently, Whirlpool doesn’t care. I’m not saying the oven you have is bad at all but the air fry and convection features definitely have huge design flaws.

      To decrease a smoke content, you should not use olive oil. Olive oil produces a lot of smoke..Use peanut or sunflower oil..those have low smoke.

    What is the difference between the air fryer and a convection oven?

    • @videogamesandmore6948
      @videogamesandmore6948  4 года назад +11

      Adrian Abshire Well to be honest, the concept is the same. Fan forced hot air but Frigidaire’s technology plays a difference. First of all, the air fry ranges have a 900 watt convection element compared to the 350 watt element you get in the non air fry ranges. Also, the convection fan is more powerful than the non air fry models. Second is the algorithm. When you select the air fry option and set the temperature, the oven will actually preheat about 100 degrees hotter than the temperature you set and hold that hot temperature for the first few minutes after you open and close the door to put your food in. This allows the outside of your food to get crispy and sear. Then, the oven will gradually cool down to your set temperature and maintain it while the convection fan circulates the hot air and this allows for the inside of your food to get cooked. Again, the concept is the same but the algorithm and the more powerful fan and element is really what makes this oven special. I’m sure you could similar results in a normal convection oven. It would just take longer and the results may not be perfect.

    IF you use added oil, make sure it's a high-temperature oil like avacado oil. Not all cooking oils have the same characteristics, definitely some are better for high-temp cooking!
    The owner's manual recommends putting your baking sheet on the lowest rack position (on the bottom of the oven). Using parchment paper may be problematic since "paper" burns at about 450 degrees, so maybe use aluminum foil?
    Another thing the owner's manual recommends is NOT to push the air fry rack all the way up against the convection fan. I think that's a downside of using the optional (read: you pay more for) Frigidaire air fry rack and it's corresponding rack holder - it goes where it goes, you don't have any options.
    PERHAPS you could use the air fry basket you bought but NOT use the rack holder that came with it -- use one of the oven racks you got with your oven and be sure to rest the air fry basket as close to the oven door as you can (as far away from the convection fan at the back). I think some people believe that pushing the basket as close to the convection fan as possible helps with browning or air frying or whatever -- I don't think that's recommended... It *feels* like placing the air fry basket in the center of the oven makes the most sense, but apparently not?
    (Great tip on first running a full oven clean cycle when taking delivery of your new oven, though I see below in other comments people saying that a self-cleaning cycle is damaging to the oven, so you do you! I followed the recommendation to bake at 450 for 30 minutes before using it, it certainly burned off a lot of factory chemicals!)

Last night I did a steak at 400 degrees for 12 minutes and like before it started to smoke. Once the steak was done it was mushy and gross, didn't resemble air fried steak at all. What am I doing wrong?

    • @videogamesandmore6948
      @videogamesandmore6948  3 года назад +2

      When you first get any new oven, you need to run it at 400-450 degrees for an hour with nothing in it to burn out any manufacturing oils. It’s normal for it to have an odor and smoke during this. If it’s still smoking after the hour, remove the racks and run a self clean to completely burn it out.
