My husband has a 3500 Ram. DEF problems mostly because he forgot to reload. Counting down the miles until he need to creep along at 5 mph. Went online and bought a new filter. Took it to a garage and they took the old one out and put in the new. Took it to a local Dodge dealer to reset the system. They couldn't do it. He ran out of miles on the way home. Pulled into a neighbor's driveway and decided he could make it home quicker if he drove in REVERSE because it ran at full speed backwards. Fortunately, we live in a very rural area, so it was possible for him to do that. However, he only went a couple of hundred feed backwards and then decided to turn around again. Drove it a few feet at 5 mph, the message changed and in an instant was running at full speed in DRIVE. It reset itself. We would suggest finding an empty parking lot, driving around backward for several hundred feet, turning around and then driving in forward gear. It might have just been a Christmas miracle; but all we know is that it's fixed and running like a top. Who knew?
Yes. I removed my DEF injector today on Xmas eve because it was clogged. Cleaned it and as I was tightening the bolt a nightmare happened. It broke with just a tiny sliver sticking out. I just can't believe that happened to me today . I need some advice do I take it to the dealer or can it be done without getting screwed over by them
Thank you I just got the service def see dealer on Sat and by Monday morning I had the 5 mph after 150m message. I just replaced the def injector ($500 at the dealer) and now the 150 mile countdown is gone and now after driving and starting it up twice the check engine light is gone as well. Thank you so much for the video!
I recently removed my DEF injector and cleaned the white crystals out with hot water. My 3500 had only 51k on it and was surprised how dirty it was. I also replaced the 10 mm bolts with stainless steel.
Service DEF See dealer just came on about 30min ago on my 2020 Ram 2500 and now came across your video,. I'm going to try this in morning... hope it solves the issues I'm having Great video and good information
Thank you for your video. It is good. I really appreciate your tip on the pbs blaster. I have two comments. Last year a 175 miles from ANY diesel service center in New Mexico the dreaded DEF message of 150 miles then five miles per hour came on. So you can disconnect both batteries then short circuit the positive lead of one of the batteries to a ground for 10-15 seconds. It will magically reset the computer. Reconnect the batteries an go on your way. When I got to Albuquerque the Dodge dealer check the truck but the codes were erased. I drove around town for 2 days and no DEF warning. Drove 1100 miles home and no warning in last 5000 miles. ???? Anyway in a pinch ground out your system and it will reset and you can get to a dealer. I have seen one injector resurrected from dead by soaking in the crusty white head area ( not the wiring) in warm water and dissolving the white stuff and then it worked.
Thanks for that tip! I have done that on Chevy diesel trucks to reset the anti theft system as well. Intermittent failure is usually how the injector starts to fail. Mine went off and one for a long time before ultimately failing.

You’re welcome! No, I am not in the military, just prefer to take an analytical approach to problems and do my own research. I enjoy sharing what I do because I think there’s a lot of bad, misinformation out there…hopefully viewers can find some value in our content. Thanks so much for watching!
My 2014 Ram 2500 4WD. Same issue . I threw a new def injector and still had the same results . Both nozzles had the same Ohm reading. I found out during my Drag link recall service there was an update/recall notice for the Def system. After the Flash . Code is gone and running great . No Charge. I hope This helps.
Do you fill your DEF up at the pump or fill from the box? I attempted to fill from the truck stop DEF pump one time & the whole nozzle was crystallized & nasty as heck - there was no way I was going to stick That in my tank. Since the first tank fill up, I’ve used the box - so far no issues within the system.
Great video. I have same Problem on my 2017 2500 cummings. It seems like every 7 to 6 months I had to replace this part. This the 3rd time I replaced the DEF injector is that common?
I’ve had to do mine again TWICE since this video. One was under warranty through Auto Zone but it only lasted 2 1/2 months, so I gave one from Amazon a shot and so far so good. Oreillys sells one with great reviews but it’s $239. If this one fails prematurely, I’ll probably go with that one.
There are so many components on the DEF system that can fail…and I have ZERO confidence a dealer can accurately diagnose an intermittent failure. I think you’re on the right track!
You’re welcome! I actually just changed this AGAIN today. If you haven’t bought the part yet, I’d recommend Oreilly’s. It’s made by Standard in the USA and has a lifetime warranty. The Autozone part in the video failed twice, once under warranty. Tried a cheap one from Amazon and it made it just past the 90 day warranty.
I just got the def message. Code U02A2 remember. P CODES= Power train(actual parts needed). U codes = wiring and network communucations (possible baf wires)
What’s the update to your other codes. Did the battery swap rectify that? Also, would antiseize be a good idea for those two 10mm bolts? Great video. That looks really easy.
@@JouppiOutdoors Thank you for the reply. Did you end up doing that actuator yourself? If so, and if you happened to record it, can you reply with your link? Thanks again.
Unfortunately, it happened while towing our 5th wheel. Had to change it at a campground and was not in a very good spot to record it. It’s not difficult, the biggest pain is having to drain the cooling system.

I started using the Peak Platinum in my Cummins about 8 months ago. My average between regeneration was in the low 300s.
