Here is our interview on oil from last week which includes how new oils can extend the life of your timing chain and improve your vehicle's MPG: ruclips.net/video/1yJoqNjuc8U/видео.html
I had 2014-2019 dodge ram 3500 models. I do cars hauling. Now I have 2022. It's a pile of garbage. Transmission, differential, manifold,... everything! Especially def and emissions systems. Meanwhile I have to pay my insurance and leasing. 🤬😤
I'm so glad that the government has protected us from all this pollution. Hundreds of millions of cardboard boxes, plastic jugs, toxic chemicals, additional mining for rare metals and additional hardware under your truck, poor fuel economy, and expensive repairs if your toxic chemical has expired. Wheww. this is so much better. Thank you government.
Couldnt have said it better!! I would love for a person to strongly present this evidence to the environmental cheeseballs that speak to Congress. No idea about 2nd and 3rd order consequences to these mandates/exhaust systems
We've come a long way with internal combustion engine emissions, but I think we're at the end of the road. Today we're only robbing Peter to pay Paul. We can reduce tailpipe emissions and have a clean running engine but at the expense of mining and its environmental impact, millions (if not billions) of pounds of single use plastics (and the environmental impact to produce them), as well as burning more fuel; which causes increased dependence on foreign oil, and the environmental impacts of drilling for and refining crude. Emissions reduction was never about saving the environment, it's only a political game.
Want less emissions use the technology you already have to go farther down the road per gallon. The only thing def does is give diesel truck owners a bigger maintenance bill and breakdowns on the road.
Here's a question. How much carbon is produced by having to: Create distilled water Create urea Create all the parts and systems in the trucks for DEF Create the packaging for DEF Shipping the DEF Disposing of the expired DEF Repairs to vehicles that use "bad def" Disposing of the plastic jugs and boxes
You can donate expired DEF to a farmer. It is a cheap form of fertilizer until the Government agencies force DEF manufacturers to poison it. Agencies do things like that thinking the "law" is more important. For example, during prohibition, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and firearms poisoned barrels of whisky. Consequently killing millions of speak easy patrons. BATF still has not made reparation to the families of the deceased.
Awesome! My new truck (2000) miles only on it has been at dealership 3 weeks now-DEF pump failed, then replacement pump arrived-defective... great video, helps understand DEF better.👍
DEF doesnt reduce pollution at all by itself. What it does is regenerate the 3 way catalyst (SCR). Power plants use ammonia for the same purpose on their SCR's.
DEF also requires you to spend more fuel. We’re basically required to collect as much pollution as possible so we can put it in our groundwater and back into the air.
DEF interacts with the the Selective Catalyst Reduction chamber which is down stream in the exhaust system, DEF does not go into the engine. If not for a stupid sensor in the SCR it would not know what or even if you had DEF. One thing that needs to be done is a drain plug should be on all DEF tanks so the owner can drain the DEF if it reaches a certain age so they can add fresh DEF. Most problems with the DEF system are because the DEF just became stale and that is the start of your problems in the DEF system. As for the API I personally think they create more problems than they solve with their stupid standards. The entire synthetic oil fiasco could have been stopped if only the API had stepped up and said sorry Castrol but Group III Conventional oil is not synthetic just because you hydro cracked it which only removes some more of the impurities in the oil. The molecules are not changed or created like a true Group IV PAO synthetic or Group V Ester synthetic. It was the Better Business Bureau's National Advertising Division (NAD) that made the decision that Group III Conventional oil could be labeled as full synthetic oil and sadly the API stupidly went along with that dumb decision making consumers the losers in that stupid decision.
@@ckryegrass11 No. A true 100% synthetic oil has a molecular structure where all the molecules are the same size, because it's synthetic--synthesized. Conventional or dinosaur oils have molecules of differing sizes.

My dealership had no idea of the DEF.. I heard later they had a whole fleet of pickups on the lot that had DEF issues... I think mine may have been one that had issues and never made a complete refresh or whatever it was they did..
I've owned a lot of diesel pickup trucks over the years I just bought a new Ford in October I get messages I'm from Michigan and it's winter time now I have to do a manual regeneration I'm having a message pop up that it's cleaning the filter I still have my 2000 F350 4wd drw it starts ok maybe I should store the new truck beside the Corvette for the winter
I live in Arizona, it's over 85 degrees half the year. So you mean I have to start refrigerating my DEF? I guess I have to keep the Pabst Blue Ribbon in the garage...
The guy in the interview is in Idiot. He is talking out both sides of his mouth. Many states are way over that temp. DEF in your tank gets that hot easily in pickups and semi trucks. Like you say in summer time certain states are that hot daily.
I was told by my drivers friend not to do that because it goes from one tank to another and can be contaminated. I just use supertech been good so far half what bludef cost
@@a-a-ron8437that driver is dumb. The use cycle rate of truck stops has the freshest ASTM diesel and ASTM DEF ..., the boxes are what's actually commonly stale they're no good after 90 days
All these specifications and API requirements and the one thing that should be required is a USE BY DATE... They should not be able to hide behind all these date codes that you need Indiana Jones to decipher.
Carry a spare speedometer senssor in your semi truck and you will never be stuck at 5 mph. Just unplug the mounted speed sensor and plug in the spare and lay it on top of the transmission. The system will know a sensor is connected but not know how fast you are going. Most will default to about 45 mph.
Brand new equipment you know that a maintenance bill and down time is coming quick. Got a brand new bobcat T770 with that shit on it. And I have 100% confidence in this machine outside of the DEF system. Hoping there’s a machine guru out there working right now trying to figure out how to delete this shit so we can get back to productive reliable equipment.
Many truck stops have def pumps. Fill up over there at Thornton’s. It’s much cheaper. No packaging. And it ain’t gonna get too old or too hot sitting in an underground tank.
I just purchased a diesel pickup and the dealership asked me if I have a truck stop near my home with a def pump. So I called the truck stop and asked them and they said yes they do. When I told the service manager that the truck stop did have a def pump he said good use it that is the best option.
I bought a diesel Jeep Grand Cherokee abouta yearand a half ago, not knowing anything about diesel believe me I just had an expensive learning lesson almost gave up on it (a couple people tried to talk me into getting rid of it) until I came across a couple of videos on def. Man if I would've seen some these prior I would've have save me thousands. Now I know it's more about maintenance. I'm on it now lol
Most people fail to understand that emissions controls have brought us more powerful and economical engines. In my house, our pickups are diesel. My wife's truck is a 2018 Ram 2500 Crewcab 4wd 6.7L. The engine is rated at 370hp and 800 lb/ft torque. 26mpg @ 55mph. And is rated to tow 17,200lbs. The mechanical 5.9L of the first Dodge D250 pickups. Got 14mpg @ 55mpg. Were rated at about 160hp 400lb/ft torque. And was rated to tow about 8,000lbs. And made a lot more noise! A gas D250 pickup got 9mpg. Starting in 1974. The DOE, EPA, engine manufacturers, and the major oil companies did testing on water injection to the intake system for pollution reduction. A benefit was actually MORE power and BETTER fuel economy economy under most conditions. But the best improvement was with the electronically controlled common rail injection systems. We got stuck with after treatment and DEF as a polluction reduction system. Because people just don't keep fluid levels correct. With DEF, if the fluid runs out, or is not the specfied fluid. A warning light comes on. You got 50 miles to get to dealer for service. Or the computer will shutdown the engine! The study had also tested various alternate fuels and formulations. Some formulations reduced emmisions. With similar or better fuel economy. To me, DEF is messy! Requires keeping the injector cleaned. And works best with the tank kept at least half full. If you run the tank low. The injector must be cleaned more often. To clear the crystals that build up.
My 05 Dodge Ram doesn't have any of this useless garbage. When and if I decide to get a new truck it's going to be fully deleted and tuned. The def is going in the toilet where it belongs and the rest of the emissions junk is going to the scrap yard.
You credit the emissions guidelines with automakers advancing their engineering to get better mileage and not the pursuit of higher profits? I disagree. Automakers are financially incentivized to make more efficient and stronger motors.
In my Colorado’s 2.8 Duramax I just use the cheap stuff from Walmart. I always look for the newest manufacture date. Been using it for 4 years. Never had an issue. I store a 2.5 gallon jug in my closet under a blanket so it’s a pretty stable environment. I just don’t think there is a whole lotta difference between GMs version and Walmart’s.
After four years you need to pull your DEF injector and I bet you will find that the hole is bolts to on the SCR is almost completely plugged up with only a small hole left in the white build up for the DEF to get through. The DEF injector is easy to pull and check.
So what’s the difference between DEF being stored in a container vs sitting in the tank in the truck? It gets to 105 where I live. Seems like DEF is a Diesel engine destroying liquid and this is why we delete our trucks.
I enjoyed the video, but I’d like to correct a couple things. 1 DEF never goes in your engine. You cannot screw up your engine. DEF or bad def or no def goes in the after treatment system. It can be very expensive to repair but it is not in the engine. Second, most commercial trucks do not buy bottled DEF we buy our DEF at truckstops with the bulk tanks. you want to go to a big truckstop that uses a lot so it rotates. Modern diesel engines that have been deleted run better have more power and get better fuel economy than emission engines. They are just illegal.
Awesome! Thank you! Could we perhaps have an interview on diesel fuel standards? Cetane numbers, lubricity, sulphur content, and last but not at all least biodiesels, both FAME and HVO and how they affect the quality of the fuel, with moisture and sediment. In Europe we have B10 ES 590 diesel, meaning 10% by volume FAME based biodiesel in otherwise mineral diesel. There are subtleties about storage and sedimentation, and there is a lot of bro science and mythology around this. Likewise with diesel fuel additives. It would be great to have his view on this. Great videos! Keep the diesel talk coming, love that stuff 🤓✊🏻
I've checked for dates for years and never saw one. You never explained about the date code.... I try to get it at truck stops so hopefully it'll be fresher..
Pretty much every diesel truck I’ve owned in the last 6 years burns through a jug of DEF every 10 000 km. As long as your drive is he vehicle regularity this should be an issue as long as you put fresh fluid in your tank.
buy DEF at diesel pumps rather than bottles at gas stations. Here in Calgary a 9.4 liter bottle is $30, I just filled up this week at a truck stop and the DEF from the pump was $1.10/Liter. So the same 9.4 liters is only $10.34 vs $30 in a bottle
We use to have problems with it freezing in the tank on very cold days. Truck needed a reg but it was froze up. Truck had no power. Also for it do a automatic Reg u need highway with city driving. Only short haul the truck would never get its self clean out. No power.. That's why semis have Manuel reg button. Your can do a parked reg. U press it and engine would rev up. . Smoke would pour out Then after 15 minutes truck would idle down.
if DEF goes bad over 85 degrees then you wouldn't be able to use it in the south, we've had 100+ temperatures for more than 60 days. From what you've said I wouldn't be able to drive across town before the DEF would be bad
Agree. The DEF in trucks tank cannot be controlled. Such as in a parking lot in direct sun all day while at work. Most summer days it's a 100 degrees even in the shade.
Storing it at higher temps? That makes no sense. Since my trucks DEF tank is, well, mounted in my truck and it’s 98°F outside, and my DEF capacity is 8,000 miles or so, that DEF fluid is in my truck for about 9 months. During that 9 months it’s stored in all temp ranges that the truck is in.
Def in direct sunlight will affect the uria reading which is if I remember around 32.5. Doesn't touch the engine just throws codes to make people spend money at the dealership. Def in your truck no matter how hot it gets won't change. Its a dumb system and causes too many issues heavy or light duty.
It is my opinion, but engine design should not allow damage from the transmission, or from DEF or from the exhaust-system nor the steering or brake system.
I have a story and a question. I used to have a 92 Caprice. Once it failed to pass an exhaust inspection. I looked up on the net, ways to help this. I saw several tips on RUclips and elsewhere, to slowly add Seafoam, to a vacuum hose. 6 ounces, while running. Then turn off for 15 minutes. Reattach vacuum hose. Turn on car, let idle, rev engine multiple tiles, until all dried particles, carbon, etc , are spit out of exhaust. Yes, that works instantly! I returned next day to inspection station, and car passed. Or u can add a whole can to gas tank, half a tank of gas or less, let it run until nearly empty. This has the same effect. My question is related. I have a new company truck. Diesel. I get a.. engine will Derate in x minutes...every day. Since Derate and Regen has to do with same issue-exhaust particulate and the cat converter, couldn't I expect the same results, adding Seafoam,to my diesel? On a side note; because I'm one of those people who has to know how and why things work, I called Seafoam about 15 years ago to ask this question. I actually talked to the inventor and chief engineer of the product 😮😮 he told me it's 3 main molecular components, and how and how and why it works. Put shortly, it completely dries up , shrinks up, crusts up, all solid matter and clinging particulate, from ur injectors spark plugs piston heads cylinder walls, all the way out past ur cat converter. Like a chunky dried up riverbed in Africa in summer! Then is easily blown out, by normal exhaust usage. So wouldn't this also work on a diesel that uses Def? Thanks for anyone's answer.
I literally learned nothing from this video other than DEF has a shelf life and a temp max, both of which don’t seem to apply in the tank, just in the jug. Someone please explain.
You need to eat the words on several things. Def doesn’t go further. Def doesn’t damage the engine but the emission cans. Def won’t make it to the next oil change. Def is a cash cow.
The EPA should of kept their nose out of this stuff. Costing truckers, and light truck owners huge expenses. Just another knife in the back of the consumer to end the use of internal combustion engines. DEF was the WORST idea EVER.
Will the truck tell you (in advance) when a regen is coming? Can you decline the regen at that time? (For instance, you’re pulling in to work and it starts a regen and you can’t just keep driving to let it happen normally)
Because regens have to occur it should be mandatory that all Diesels have a button you can push to do a manual regeneration for the exact reason you just described. There is no reason anyone should have to go to a dealer and pay them to do a manual regeneration.
My 2017 ram has nothing but emission problems. I absolutely hate the def system. I know people who deleted the def system and the truck gets better mpg/longer oil life.
You need a mechanic that can bypass sensors and computer chips that will disable your vehicle. Maybe early models but very hard to work around modern setups.
DEF is everywhere. There's zero need to "store" it in quantity. When you need some, buy it. No one should ever need to buy 6mos worth of the stuff. It's literally in every WalMart, Fleet Farm and such let alone AZ/AA.
Yeah DEF is everywhere. But I am using about 10 galons per week and I will not stop two times per week at Walmart to buy one bottle. When I stop I buy 10 bottles
really, because people's lives don't matter? i don't love all this emission equipment either, but it is saving tens to hundreds of thousands of excess deaths from air pollution annually
Why store DEF at all, just buy it when you need it, DEF lasts for quite a while before you have to add more to the DEF tank. That way you know you are getting fresh DEF and not using DEF that you have stored for months and no telling how old it is if you did not read the date code on it for how long it was sitting in a store.
I have a 2018 Chevrolet Equinox 1.6 liter diesel. This little diesel has a DEF tank along with its bigger brothers. I skip buying the plastic jugs but I look at the high turn over truck stops and find the DEF pump and go inside and purchase the DEF from these guys. Why would I pay upwards to $4.50 a gallon when the truck stops are most times less then half the cost and I never had a issue using this method. Also it is a lot easier to simply pump it in the DEF tank then holding a heavy jug and almost always spills a little.
So don't store above 85. And if you live in Sacramento, Phoenix, Mojave??? So how fast is deterioration in 90 to 100 quite common in these areas, especially in DEF tanks that cannot be openly cleaned? 8:00
Many guys on current Forums are putting in a Gallon per 100 miles when towing. The new trucks when compared to 2019 and 2020 trucks are using way more DEF.
@@TDub_ADV I couldn’t say that’s just what they are saying. I have a real world result for you. Today I drove from my 418 Miles from the Dallas, Texas “area” to Scott, Louisiana. Final destination being 30A, Florida. During this trip I went through 3-4 gallons of DEF, I don’t have the exact amount because of the partial amount I started with. I filled up and just as I was getting here I got the notification that I have 500 miles remaining of DEF. I drive a 2024 F350 SRW 6.7HO Platnium Tremor, towing 18k pounds at 70-75mph. Total weight of the 5th wheel and my truck is 26,020 pounds. The speed may have something to do with it. The DEF tank is 6 gallons. The truck is for sure maxed out payload wise I have 8 pounds to spare (airbags help level up). My GAWR is over by 300 pounds and so is my GVWR by about the same 300 pounds with a full tank of fuel and current load out for a 12 days vacation. So I am running heavy and going the HWY speed limit. When I am not towing DEF will last like you said before at a gallon per 1,000 miles, roughly. These Fords seem to love thier DEF. Frankly I would prefer to let the truck breathe and have a few parts fall off. These rough Louisiana roads may just do the trick for me 😅😂😎😎. I didn’t want to get a dully because i like the idea that I can take it offroad, and the car wash, and the drive-thru other wise it would have been a F450 Limited FX4. I do love the truck I have but the F450’s do look pretty cool too. I nearly got a GMC but the GMC Denali AT4X-AEV wasn’t coming out until just after I would have taken delivery of mine and I couldn’t wait any longer. The Vader Chrome on the Denali’s is unbelievably cool.
@@Captain-Awesome WOW!!!! That is so much more than i use. So i own a 2024 GMC 3500 Dually and pull a 46' toyhauler that weighs 24k. Total weight going down the road is almost 33k. We live in this full time and have been traveling pretty frequently lately. In march we left Florida headed to Maine. We have travel thru GA, SC, NC, TN,KY,IN,OH,PA,NY and are currently in MA. In that time we have put about 6k on the truck mixed towing and just normal driving. I filled the def when we left Florida at a truck stop and just filled it again in NY before we crossed in to MA.
DEF dosent go into the engine or fuel its completely seperate from the engine so hmmmm maybe I'm overlooking somthing here. Many drivers I know have deleted their def systems and haven't had any issues. Cant get away with that in California though.
What I always hated about Diesel engines was the smell of the exhaust (pre-DEF). My DEF Cummings has less order than my 3.5 ford turbo, in fact you can’t smell anything. The one thing I wish we could all legally get rid of is the EGR!!!
Can we have a segment on Cenex diesel. I here these commercials saying Cenex diesel is better for my rig but it’s definitely more expensive then regular diesel why?
Diesel power magazine(when they were still in business) had an article about that. It had higher Cetane, higher lubricate additives and so on and so forth. In other words it was ultra premium diesel.
@12:50 API doesn't license but the API logo means the product has been CERTIFIED to meet API's standards!!! The word license and certified have different meaning!
Supposing a person bought some DEF and it has a use-by date on it and it expires, how would someone dispose of that DEF? Surely, you can't pour it down the drain but how would you get rid of it?
Our workplace has a big tote that they leave outside for us drivers to fill up with. Is it bad that it’s sitting out in the sun all day everyday? We have multiple dump trucks and work tool trucks that end up derating. I would think that they would put two and two together that that tote is the issue. It just seems prior we used to stop by gas stations to get def and we never had derate issues back then. So I was curious if thrm leaving thr tote out in the sun could be an issue.
What? I've never heard of that one. I wouldn't do it myself, the trucks are designed to clean out their own filters which is why regen exists. My guess is that's old school thinking and doesn't apply to new diesels.
I ran my 2013 duramax out of DEF. Ot went into limp mode - down to 7 km/hr. I drove a couple Kms to a place to pull over. I refilled the DEF and now I’m stuck in limp mode. I let it sit over night; I ran the engine for a while, but the thing won’t reset. Not sure what the problem is.
DEF converts Ozone in your exhaust into safe ammonia. “NOX” nitrous oxide exhaust is sprayed by the DEF urea. All this bs because EPA is concerned nitrous oxide will cause climate change. Seriously. Real reason is the Greenies simply hate diesel engines and fuel. I have a MB diesel Sprinter and it is so complicated, it is bound to fail all the time. Both Dealerships near me are always packed with lines of Amazon diesel vans that are having exhaust issues. This is a political issue that diesel owners of all kinds are on the wrong side of. I only hope the recent Supreme Court verdict against the EPA recently, can somehow fix this ridiculous exhaust situation. Almost every machine that makes America and the world work is diesel. Water pumps, construction machines, boats, ships, etc. There has to be a simple effective solution that can replace this madness. BTW, It came from California’s Clean Air board-CARB. The same board that outlawed concrete manufacturing in their state in the very near future. Also outlawed small gasoline engines, like generators, lawn tools, etc.To take effect in 2 years.
Need to discuss how many issues have been created by this crap. Trucks in the shop for fault codes, filters plugged, trucks in limp mode, some catching in fire due to the high temperatures of the process. Oil is filthy dirty using DEF. My Pete was still clean without DEF while our new KW’s had issues constantly and the oil was dirty in the first week.
DEF has nothing to do with the oil. That's the fault of the DPF crap. Your KW'S engines are probably designed to inject diesel during the exhaust stroke to fuel the regen in the DPF. Some of the excess fuel gets past the rings & dilutes the oil. If you wait long enough between oil changes, you'll probably notice the "oil level" rise when you check the level during fuel stops. That's the excess fuel combining with the oil in the crankcase. Great system, huh? Use excessive amounts of fuel and oil to save the planet. Go, team green, go!
MOPAR uses a standard manufacture date date with a use by date that is two years apart. Example Manufactured 1/1/2020 use by 1/1/2022. So it is MOPAR DEF for you but you likely won't like the cost of the MOPAR DEF. I am using the new Peak BlueDEF Platinum which they say will help keep deposits from forming in the SCR.
@@endurofan9854 "Selective Catalyst Reduction", it is a chamber located down stream in the exhaust system that the DEF is sprayed into to reduce the NOX in the exhaust.
I am confused. when I put the def in the car, is it now just in another storage device inside the vehicle? If I don't drive that much, is the product going to expire in the vehicle? Should it be drained and replaced?
Here is our interview on oil from last week which includes how new oils can extend the life of your timing chain and improve your vehicle's MPG: ruclips.net/video/1yJoqNjuc8U/видео.html

I wish tim would of brought this up in the interview
Want less emissions use the technology you already have to go farther down the road per gallon. The only thing def does is give diesel truck owners a bigger maintenance bill and breakdowns on the road.
Thank corporate America if they could market shit they would sell shit to you.
Here's a question. How much carbon is produced by having to:
Create distilled water
Create urea
Create all the parts and systems in the trucks for DEF
Create the packaging for DEF
Shipping the DEF
Disposing of the expired DEF
Repairs to vehicles that use "bad def"
Disposing of the plastic jugs and boxes
It's a JOKE
They just come up with more bs to make us spend money
You can donate expired DEF to a farmer. It is a cheap form of fertilizer until the Government agencies force DEF manufacturers to poison it. Agencies do things like that thinking the "law" is more important. For example, during prohibition, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and firearms poisoned barrels of whisky. Consequently killing millions of speak easy patrons. BATF still has not made reparation to the families of the deceased.
All this crap is scams. Lining pockets of all these elites. Just doesn’t make any dam sense. Same goes for all these EV’s.
Bad def makes great fertilizer for your garden, yard or farm ... It's steroids for plants 💪💪💪👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Saving the planet one cardboard box and plastic jug at a time
LOL
Not to mention API has a pretty good cash cow. I wonder how much they charge annually for certification?
And 30% more fuel used in order to produce less pollution. lol
You can safe money and avoid the plastic crap if you fill up your DEF at the Semi Gas Stations. It is probably fresher also!
@@marckruse2181 I specifically avoid the truck stops. Have had friends tell me horror stories

DEF doesnt reduce pollution at all by itself. What it does is regenerate the 3 way catalyst (SCR). Power plants use ammonia for the same purpose on their SCR's.
@mizzouxc actually it's not.
its correct we use ammonia and catalyst to have 0 emmision
DEF also requires you to spend more fuel. We’re basically required to collect as much pollution as possible so we can put it in our groundwater and back into the air.
I just love saving the earth by throwing away a box and a plastic jug every month as well as burning Urea out my exhaust!
Are all synthetic oils just cleaner conventional oils? Just bought a 2022 ram 3500. Its my first diesel truck.
@@ckryegrass11 No. A true 100% synthetic oil has a molecular structure where all the molecules are the same size, because it's synthetic--synthesized. Conventional or dinosaur oils have molecules of differing sizes.

Wish my dealership was more clear about DEF when I purchased the truck... Thanks for the update
Most dealers don’t know this stuff neither. I certainly learned a few things!
My dealership had no idea of the DEF.. I heard later they had a whole fleet of pickups on the lot that had DEF issues... I think mine may have been one that had issues and never made a complete refresh or whatever it was they did..
The dealership sucks. The only thing they know how to do is take your money.

LOL
The guy in the interview is in Idiot. He is talking out both sides of his mouth. Many states are way over that temp. DEF in your tank gets that hot easily in pickups and semi trucks. Like you say in summer time certain states are that hot daily.
No refrigerator need hahaha
I use the DEF at the pump at gas stations, primarily at truck stops, like Quick Trip.
I was told by my drivers friend not to do that because it goes from one tank to another and can be contaminated. I just use supertech been good so far half what bludef cost

@@Pickuptrucktalk there is no drain on my DEF tank so if I deploy for six months or longer how to I refresh the fluid in my tank?
Carry a spare speedometer senssor in your semi truck and you will never be stuck at 5 mph. Just unplug the mounted speed sensor and plug in the spare and lay it on top of the transmission. The system will know a sensor is connected but not know how fast you are going. Most will default to about 45 mph.
Will that work on automatic like dt12?
Does that work on pickups?
Its comical that we as consumers need to spend effort to overcome ( as he said in the video ) a billion+ dollar industry. Its beyond comical.
Any issue using the DEF pump at Thornton ?

Good points! The 2019 and up Ram Cummins is even MORE powerful, better mileage AND uses less DEF!
My 05 Dodge Ram doesn't have any of this useless garbage. When and if I decide to get a new truck it's going to be fully deleted and tuned. The def is going in the toilet where it belongs and the rest of the emissions junk is going to the scrap yard.
@@duckwacker8720 We’ve got a badass over here!
Newer trucks are far more expensive, too!
@@ramecodiesel8271 who cares? I’ve ran the cheap stuff in my Ram for 226,000 miles and no issues. J/s

@@mp5kfisher241 price varies upon where you buy the non Walmart stuff. The Walmart stuff should be priced the same across the country.
So what’s the difference between DEF being stored in a container vs sitting in the tank in the truck? It gets to 105 where I live. Seems like DEF is a Diesel engine destroying liquid and this is why we delete our trucks.
Buy well and get a two year life. So in the heat, at least 1 year. Think you’ll get thru that?
How do I delete it? I have a chevy cruze diesel. The pump is bad
How does DEF destroy a diesel engine? Its injected in the exhaust.
I saved damaging and harming my truck by deleting it. 👍🏻🇺🇸💨
How can I get mine deleted?
I enjoyed the video, but I’d like to correct a couple things. 1 DEF never goes in your engine. You cannot screw up your engine. DEF or bad def or no def goes in the after treatment system. It can be very expensive to repair but it is not in the engine. Second, most commercial trucks do not buy bottled DEF we buy our DEF at truckstops with the bulk tanks. you want to go to a big truckstop that uses a lot so it rotates. Modern diesel engines that have been deleted run better have more power and get better fuel economy than emission engines. They are just illegal.
Who said DEF goes into your engine?
Tim I guess I misunderstood what you were saying. I thought you said bad def could damage your engine. I guess I heard wrong
@@Bigben-pz8bx Honestly, it has been so many years since I filmed this video, I don't recall what I said. That's why I asked. LOL
13:47 you say bad storage could damage your engine. But I think you mean the parts using the def only.
First time diesel owner. If I were to delete my 2022 3.0, I wouldn’t need DEF any longer?
What happens to the 4 gallons inside your tank when it’s above 100 degrees outside everyday?
Exactly I was going to ask the same question
High heat is one year life. So use it up within the year of manufacture.
Awesome!
Hmm... I’ll see what I can do.
I've checked for dates for years and never saw one. You never explained about the date code....
I try to get it at truck stops so hopefully it'll be fresher..
There is an entire chain of custody protocol that keeps it below 66degrees until you buy it. I have read. This is the Mercedes plan.
So what happens if it’s in your tank system here in south Texas weather is 100 degrees and over
Pretty much every diesel truck I’ve owned in the last 6 years burns through a jug of DEF every 10 000 km. As long as your drive is he vehicle regularity this should be an issue as long as you put fresh fluid in your tank.
Why is he going on about things that might contaminate DEF harming the engine, when it's injected into the exhaust?
Because he is clueless

plugged exhaust will harm the engine

The critical mistake I haven't made since 2012, is not buying any new diesel garbage.
I haven’t looked yet , but I am guessing there is a test kit to insure the DEF is still safe to use to protect the equipment.
buy DEF at diesel pumps rather than bottles at gas stations.
Distilled water and Pig Piss!! How could that ever go BAD?? It was Bad to begin with! Lol 😆 🤣
UREA is biodegradable and great farm or garden fertilizer
Ok you talked about temperature and def the back trucks bringing it to store get really hot during summertime
Def is Def it it meets the ISO 7000 standard
DEF is basically cow piss. That's why the smell of ammonia. The engine now emits ammonia.because of DEF.
Can you comment on the difference of regular def and platinum def? Is it really worth the extra money?
I've found price matching makes up the cost difference. I'm going to continue with Platinum.
@@cashishift I’m still trying to find out what the platinum def does for the engine?
Im sticking to Platinum since Banks recommend it.
Thank you for your information. I am very grateful. What is the best DEF
if DEF goes bad over 85 degrees then you wouldn't be able to use it in the south, we've had 100+ temperatures for more than 60 days. From what you've said I wouldn't be able to drive across town before the DEF would be bad
Storing it outside for extended periods is the issue.
Agree. The DEF in trucks tank cannot be controlled. Such as in a parking lot in direct sun all day while at work. Most summer days it's a 100 degrees even in the shade.
Better then a EV
The Government should pay for the repairs.
Questions who pays the government? (We do)
Leave it to Scientists to F’ things up
Storing it at higher temps?
Maybe we should only fill the def tank halfway so it doesn't break down.
How do we ensure temperature control from the vendors? Should we sniff before filling up?
Thanks for the mental image of guys walking around gas stations sniffing DEF fluid.
So if u live in the desert do u store the def in a cooler. What about the def in the truck when it’s a 120 out side for 3 months. Do I need to worry?
I'd worry. Excessive heat or cold is a problem for DEF.
Omg the talking was so quiet, then the intro blasted my ears out hahah! Good vid tho
So glad to see this video. Self life and drain when not using my rv.thanks
It is my opinion, but engine design should not allow damage from the transmission, or from DEF or from the
exhaust-system nor the steering or brake system.
Isn't saying DEF Fluid like saying ATM Machine?
Does DEF expire at the same rate while sitting in the DEF tank in a truck you don’t drive as often?
I literally learned nothing from this video other than DEF has a shelf life and a temp max, both of which don’t seem to apply in the tank, just in the jug. Someone please explain.
Exactly. That was a lot of time to say very little.
Please how are you going to possibly regulate the temperature of the DEF in the trucks holding tank itself.
And it’s also a super dense heavy product to transport around in bulk. Burning even more fuel.
You buy bulk DEF at truck stop. How do know if fresh and if it's quality Def.
Look for the date on the package.
BULK. At the pump?
Why do you tubers think they have to have music come on that is way louder than the talking part of their videos?
Just a miss for me while I was editing.
Yes But, How wonderful that test are done, don't keep too much on hand, but how long is too long? How does heat affect it, etc. ?????
It’s nice of them to let him out of prison for this!
You need to eat the words on several things. Def doesn’t go further. Def doesn’t damage the engine but the emission cans. Def won’t make it to the next oil change. Def is a cash cow.
Did you happen to ask what it is made out of ? Not sure what chemicals are in it. Thanks Tim keep the great vids coming
Automotive grade Urea and pure water basically.
Tim is absolutely right. 32.5% automotive grade urea in 67.5 percent pure (distilled, deionized) water.
I put distilled water in my DEF tank and the truck runs just fine.
What type of truck do you have? How long have you been putting only distilled water in your DEF tank?
I don’t use/ drive my truck a lot. DEF sets a while in mine. What can I do to optimize storage of this fluid
The EPA should of kept their nose out of this stuff. Costing truckers, and light truck owners huge expenses. Just another knife in the back of the consumer to end the use of internal combustion engines. DEF was the WORST idea EVER.
ya, to the hell with the environment. Trump still lost.
Will the truck tell you (in advance) when a regen is coming? Can you decline the regen at that time? (For instance, you’re pulling in to work and it starts a regen and you can’t just keep driving to let it happen normally)
I don’t know of any truck that allows that, usually they tell you when you are starting a regen and it’s best to let it regen when it wants.
Because regens have to occur it should be mandatory that all Diesels have a button you can push to do a manual regeneration for the exact reason you just described. There is no reason anyone should have to go to a dealer and pay them to do a manual regeneration.
Regen will continue the next time you drive it. That’s what mine has done on both Duramax trucks I own (6.6 and 2.8)
My 2017 ram has nothing but emission problems. I absolutely hate the def system. I know people who deleted the def system and the truck gets better mpg/longer oil life.
Yes a delete is preferred I was on the edge of it and waited too long.. now it seems all the pipes, tunes and tuner companies have died off..
Can you delete the DEF sensor? I heard that this can be done and runs a thousand times better.

They charge more for everything. With their gas they start with 87,89 and 92 octane then add the 10% alcohol that boost the octane level two points.
Actually urea is a fertilizer. I would bet you could dilute and use on the lawn.
I would suspect leaving it in the sun is a problem, yes.
It could be simply a aging fleet.
@@kmg501 oldest truck is 2018 kw t880
how do we charge more for a 99c gallon product.
Would this product work the same on a regular gasoline old truck? Thanks
Why would you want to add Def to a gasoline truck?
@@Pickuptrucktalk I was given a 2.5 Gallon jug, later I foud it was for a diezel vehicle.
@@1945temo DEF is for diesel engines only. Worthless for gas engines.
The whole DEF system fucks up your truck!
It's not Def system that screws things up it's the EGR and DPF that does it.
So very true.. wish I would have known about it before I purchased my truck
@@forrestmiller4055 that's right. I love my 05 lly and all the usless emission crap is off of it.
Save the planet and money, delete the stupid system.
I was told by friend that add half cup of Ammonia NH3 to full tank DEF is good to clean the filters. Is that true?
What? I've never heard of that one. I wouldn't do it myself, the trucks are designed to clean out their own filters which is why regen exists. My guess is that's old school thinking and doesn't apply to new diesels.
What is certification we should look for
I ran my 2013 duramax out of DEF.
Pull the batter
Commercial DEF already has to meet ISO 22241 standards - what does the additional API certification ADD??!!!
Never covered the freezing issue
Also making us buy newer tractors even though the ones we’re selling are just fine. CARB is run by unscientific communist morons who hate business
@@tjztyger EGR cause a lot of the oil issues
Is Blue DEF Premium needed? Worth it?
The first def company that puts a regular xx/xx/xx expiration date or born on date will get my $$$
MOPAR uses a standard manufacture date date with a use by date that is two years apart. Example Manufactured 1/1/2020 use by 1/1/2022. So it is MOPAR DEF for you but you likely won't like the cost of the MOPAR DEF.
I am using the new Peak BlueDEF Platinum which they say will help keep deposits from forming in the SCR.
whats an SCR?
@@endurofan9854 "Selective Catalyst Reduction", it is a chamber located down stream in the exhaust system that the DEF is sprayed into to reduce the NOX in the exhaust.
I am confused. when I put the def in the car, is it now just in another storage device inside the vehicle? If I don't drive that much, is the product going to expire in the vehicle? Should it be drained and replaced?
Many times the owners manual will tell you to flush it if it sits too long.
