Being a young dope under twenty, I said sure, Kevin. When I arrived, he and his wife put on a Van Morrison album, and class began. That may have been when I realized older people, including my parents and grandparents, had opinions and life lessons worth listening to.

He just does it well and sometimes even better. I just like his music and his incredible voice. Best wisches from Hamburg (germany) @ you all
Steady block capitals man...yeah to answer original poster.. Caravan is one of the best performances of the entire show...The very very best is "Old Time Religion" by a coked up exhausted band filmed back stage chillin and fooling around...best bit of "impromptu" music I ever heard in my life.
Mellifluous: 1. Flowing like honey. 2. (figuratively) Sweet, smooth and musical; pleasant to hear (generally used of a person's voice, tone or writing style).
Van the Man does it all -- Rock, Jazz, Country, Blues. A great writer, wonderful voice, great band. This song is one of the greatest arrangements and instrumental recordings ever!
Lex...I could tell that the song reminded Brad of you because he made a move where he was going to pause but he gave a quick eyeball glance over at you and saw how much you were enjoying it and let the song go on....so you may be sweet...but Brad is definitely sweet on you!!!
Ok, you two focused on the line, "Sweet as Tupelo Honey" But I didn't hear you guys contemplating how the actual the verses tied in with that.. "You can take all the tea in China and put it in a big brown bag and drop it in the deep blue sea." And the line, "You can't stop us on the road to freedom, you can't keep us cause our eyes can see"...." Men with insight , men in granite". It almost sounds like references to the American Revolution, Boston Tea Party, granite statues of the founders of the nation etc. Maybe "She's as sweet as Tuplelo Honey" is really referring to 'freedom' from Tyranny rather than a girl. Freedom is sweet as Tupelo Honey. I don't know, but those are some interesting lyrics.
It's a love song from the early 70's, and it's about a man's love for a woman who he thinks is very special. All that other stuff you're going on about is only in your American mind.
You guys are just so adorable. Big smile on my face. Lots of great imagery in this reaction. Others have suggested great songs by Van morrison. I had so many friends that knew every one of their songs and I only ever knew their hits for some reason. But I even covered Brown Eyed Girl in my Honky Tonk band to Great audience response. As far as holding your lighter up? It didn't really have to do with any one specific thing. It had to do with greatness. If the majority of the people in the crowd felt like they were witnessing an incredibly wonderful or important moment together, that's when you brought out the lighters. And you had to be very judicious because there was only so much butane in any given lighter and it would run out. And if you were like me and used your pocket knife to damage it, that would make it flame out like a 3 ft flame in the air. But it wouldn't last very long at all. So it really is just a sign of respect for a great moment that everyone is sharing together.

Brad you are absolutely right. Lex is so sweet and I can't think of anybody who is even more sweet as your girl. Van Morrison has a knack for putting these feelings into words with a beautiful, enchanting melody. Did you pick up his strong Irish accent in his songs? Lex you mentioned his voice before. Probably due to Guinness and Irish Whiskey. Æx 🙏
the "SHE" in the song is freedom.. freedom is sweet like tupelo honey, its an angel of the first degree...the men in granite is Mt Rushmore.. the part about the tea in china and drop it in the sea is a allusion to the boston tea party. With Van being Irish he understands the importance of freedom.
Hmmm, seems like you have something else going on there in that interpretation of the lyrics of this song. But, hey, words and music affect us all differently, and who am I to upset your apple cart? Glad you love the song.
This is what reaction videos are all about. Seeing pure joy listening to great art. And yes as a teenager of the 70’s this is exactly what I thought about the girls I admired.
There is a beautiful live concert by Van Morrison from Montreaux, Switzerland from 1980. All the songs from there can be listened also separately in RUclips. The best songs there are 1) Troubadeurs 2) Satisfied 3) Tupelo Honey
Van Morrison should watch your reaction to this one. If it didn't make him smile, it would make me wonder why the hell not. :) I'd say he'd be overwhelmed.
Van could open the dictionary, or a phone book, and start singing and it would be wonderful! I'm an old guy, so the old stuff really holds me, but it's all really fine! You could literally have an entire Van Morrison Channel, there's that much material!

Lighters. They were/are used on ANY song that MOVES You to "FLICK YOUR BIC"! Mainly it's an action by the crowd as fans of the Bands song are motivated to show appreciation. I have sat in 20,000+ seat arenas where the Crowds, Lighters cast a Candles Glow in an otherwise dark hall. The band finished it's song list, they exit the stage the crowd is going wild with excitement and wants to hear MORE. Cheers, Clapping, Whistling, High 5's and Lighters are how we show the Band we loved them and need to hear ONE More Song! Jackson Brown sang about this very thing in the song Load-out/Stay. Give it a Listen.
Van the Man is the best! I live close to Tupelo (MS) and there are a few Tupelo gum trees in the back yard. However, Tupelo Honey mostly comes from the Florida Panhandle and is greatly prized and eagerly sought after. It is claimed to be amongst the best in the world. So... my best friend, his young daughter got me onto this song. Thank you D, now I think of you when hearing this song. BTW D was 13 at the time. Rock on Brad & Lex
The song is a tribute to his first wife Janet who inspired him and his music, others say it is about Freedom. Maybe it's a reference to both, or maybe he felt the freest with his wife or maybe it's about two things he loved most. either way it's a beautiful song.

All the tea in China is a British idiom meaning of incalculable value, ie "you wouldn't get me to a Justin Bieber gig for all the tea in China."
Too funny
Thanks for sharing the real meaning!!! I knew this. I still enjoy it as a love song as well. Just a powerful and beautiful song
Hmmm, seems like you have something else going on there in that interpretation of the lyrics of this song. But, hey, words and music affect us all differently, and who am I to upset your apple cart? Glad you love the song.
Sir Van was Knighted by the Queen a few years ago he`s a Northern Irish Protestant who would regard himself as British before Irish.
Hold the phone!!.. easily one of the the best tunes written.. along with how his soul Coats the music.. whole thing is just beautiful!❤️☘️
This was the first dance at probably millions of weddings over the years
This is what reaction videos are all about.
What a voice all these years later It still sounds so good !
This was my favorite reaction from y'all. Brad nailed it...Y'all as sweet as tupelo Honey...and a lovely break from my current existence...thanks guys😊
this was a new song for me, I know some of his more popular radio stuff but I never delved in to his other music, good song, I liked it
she is gorgeous, my man Van is the greatest, come on what soul in his voice and the music, sax, strings, horns etc are the best, a one of!!!!!
I think Lex is one of the best I've ever heard at describing a singer's vibe (feeling).
I hear ya Brad. From what I can tell, Lex is a sweet lady. Loved both of your reactions and appreciation of this song. It's one of my favorites, by any artist. The whole album is great. Perfect for listening to, from start to finish. Y'all will love all the songs on it.
Honestly, the song you must must must review is the studio version of “TB Sheets” ….. mind blowing lyrics and superbly sung. The story of a man visiting dying tuberculosis sufferer. It is phenomenal song.
Great blues tune. I also love the version of “I’ll never get out of these blues alive” with John Lee Hooker
@@patrickcraig8022 it’s also excellent 👍
The man was him and the sufferer was his girlfriend. He broke down many times in the studio recording this song.
@@tomroome4118 hello Tom… since I read your comment I went back and listened to the track again and now I can’t stop listening to it. Funnily enough my daughter. who heard the song just once, is now a Van Morrison fan. From listening to Rap music to Van Morrison ….. Wow!
I have an entire playlist of Van.. you can't go wrong with him. You will get so lost in the music and his voice and lyrics
Can has written so many great songs but this is one of his best. The production is really spot on.
Van????
The reaction is on par with the first degree......... you guys really make this fun. Van Morrison has made a lot of great music! I love his Keep it Simple record, A LOT ( Lover Come Back and End of the Land transports me away......from here). The hole is extraordinally deep. Thanks for reacting guys.
Really enjoyed your reaction and comments to the soulful and heartfelt sound of Van Morrison.
Two lovely people enjoying one lovely Song and the great artist who wrote it.
You're a lucky man to have that one, and you just won her heart again.
Van the Man!!!!!! Greatest singer-songwriter-musician of the Rock Era!!!!!
So... "She's as sweet as Tupelo honey" is a huge compliment and high praise.
OK Lex I'm glad that you enjoyed this wonderful song but Brad you nailed it on this reaction. You guys give me hope for the future.
3:04 "You can't stop us..."
...click...Brad begs to differ
my best friend, his young daughter got me onto this song.
'THE INN OF THE BEGINNING', COTATI CA. WE USED TO GO WATCH VAN WORK OUT HIS SHOWS/TUNES
One of the best ever and he has had some new music come out in the last couple years.
Very lovely reaction to a great song!! Nice dedication to Lex by Brad😊
Van is up there with the great songwriters, his songs speak to your soul
