Van is so good. This was definitely one of his more jazz influenced tunes. Check out Here Comes The Night, Bright Side Of The Road, And It Stoned Me, Brown Eyed Girl and Into The Night just to name a few. PS & BTW He's touring this year...✌️
Van is one of the true greats. His music crossed many genres (rock, soul, jazz, blues, folk). I think ultimately he is a soul singer (Irish backgrond), and poetic song writer. His live performances tend to be more Jazzy, and Bluesy than his albums, but their are Jazzy elements on the Moondance and on his classic album Astral Weeks which is a true piece of art. He played some sax himself. I think I have about 15 of his albums all worth multiple listens.
Van Morrison's 1970 album, Moondance, ranks high among the very best of the 20th century. "And It Stoned Me", "Moondance", "Crazy Love", "Caravan", "Into the Mystic", "Come Running", "These Dreams of You", "Brand New Day", "Everyone", "Glad Tidings" -- Morrison swings in some way on every song, like drifting down a lazy river on a warm sunny day, a hot bowl of soup at home after months at sea, a couple dancing in the moonlight. Listen to them all together when you can.
You guys should react to more Van Morrison… "Someone Like You", "Domino", "Here Comes the Night", "Crazy Love", "Days Like This", "Caravan", "Wild Night", "Gloria", "Sweet Thing", "And It Stoned Me" 🎸🤘
@JD B not completely true. They have people vote during live stream. The songs that are voted on are picked by number of live stream requests for that song, but the songs can be influenced by superchat gifts.
Classic combo jazz that's swingin' deep from Van Morrison, who's got soul for days. I'ma go way out onto that limb and recommend you check out Take Five, by Dave Brubeck. It's an instrumental that has this same vibe, but Brad might really dig it.
That's my favorite song of all time! If they reacted to Take Five I'd be so happy! They could also react to Al Jarraeu performing, he has vocals in his version.
This is another one of those songs that was so different from everything else at the time it just grabbed you. Van has been my favorite writer, singer, and performer ever since.
This is 3 piece jazz all day guys, a standup bass, a guy tapping rhythm on a small drum set, and a fat piano player sweating out any song you want to tip them to play in the bar. Classy.
This is Jazz Pop. Van Morrison had a unique sound and a number of hits in the 1960s and 70s. When he was with the band Them, they had a hit with "Gloria", which was later a huge cover hit for The Doors. Van was one of the special guest performers to sing onstage with The Band, for their farewell concert, filmed in 1975 by a young Martin Scorsese ("Taxi Driver", "Goodfellas", "The Departed"). The concert film is called "The Last Waltz" and, until "Stop Making Sense" by the Talking Heads and director Jonathan Demme, was considered the greatest concert movie ever made.
We forget how much pop and rock owe to JAZZ! Especially records like this. Not only the instrumental Interludes, but his voice is as much jazz as it is rock.
Van the Man has soul...genre defying Soul. Can honestly say his first dozen albums are always worth listening to...Veedon Fleece and Common One are my personal favourites.
Soul singer, guitarist, pianist, sax player, writer, producer. All-time great. Blues/jazz/rock. Saw his live show last year - and at 74, still unbelievable!
I've been fortunate to see Van Morrison in concert. One of my favorites upon first hearing him, after purchasing my first album (1975 or so) - "Superstars of the 70's" I've always thought his voice expresses, and sounds, like the instrument he plays - Saxaphone.
It's funny - I had that same thought just listening to this now, before I read your comment. Especially when he stretches a syllable out, such as the ni-i-i-ght's magic. I've heard and enjoyed this song for decades, and that never occurred to me before.
The chose of instruments greatly influences that mood of the song. Here you have flute, sax, piano, standup bass and drums, giving you that nightclub vibe. Especially the standup bass, such a cool instrument.
It's amazing how far you two have come since the early days of listening to music. You are almost music connoisseurs now :D See how much music opens your minds without you even realising it. All it took was a couple of thousand songs to understand a range of emotions, feelings and points of views from hundreds of artists. I'm sure you feel much wiser compared to when you started?
Love a lot of Van''s music. For me Hymns to the Silence is one of my faves. As well as Stranded and Have I Told You Lately. The layering and multi- dimensional production of his music always surprise me and make the songs worthy of playing time and time again. Thanks for sharing !
Catchy, classic and jazzy! You guys are both great reactors, individually - and at the same time make a good reacting team! This song is used in it's entirety during a sex scene in "An American Werewolf In London", ha! You don't even mind because the song is so good, lol.
This song brings back memories of the film American Werewolf In London. It is used over a well shot love scene between David (David Naughton) & Alex Price (Jenny Agutter).
After watching a whole bunch of brad and lex's reaction videos it's clear to me that Lex has an old soul soul ...in the best possible meaning of that term. She FEELS THE MUSIC of my life ( im 62 years old).and she feels it deep in the CORE of her being. Right on Sister!
I am reminded of Trick or Treat night when I was 10(1974), there was a huge harvest moon that shined so bright that I wasn't nervous about walking around my new neighborhood that had no streetlights, I danced along the side of the gravel road. It felt magical then, & my memory retains that feeling. This is my favorite from Van Morrison!
One of my top five songs of all time. So well composed and the lyrics are great. It talks about romancing a love and the song itself is great to play while on a date while at home making dinner for two.
Another lovely review of a great Jazz and Soul influenced song. Another of my favourite Van Morrison songs is "Natalia", from I think the Wavelength album. Thanks again you two!
Stand up bass has a special sound that just fits with jazz. I've played in jazz bands and love it and when this song came out on the radio, I was really surprised that people my age liked it. Not the typical jazz fans.
The song "Gloria* was played on the radio when I was a very young girl. It was Van Morrison , but his band was called "Them" back then. That was the first time I heard Van Morrison.
As someone that loves jazz, this was always one of my favorite Van tunes. I've likely listened to it a thousand times and it never gets old for me. The vibe just relaxes me to my soul after a long workday
As a Bass Player back in the day, I loved playing "Moon Dance" because it gave me a chance to use some jazz chops. It was the only song that gave me that space.
Before Going Solo,, Van (The Man) Morrison Was In This Group Formed In Belfast Ireland (1964) Them "Here Comes The Night",, "Gloria",, "All For Myself" & "Could You Would You"
There have been some great jazz covers of this Van original, by different artists. His music often crosses between genres from jazz to blues to pop to whatever. His early work with a band called Them is well worth a listen too. Gloria, Baby Please Don't Go, Here Comes the Night and It's All Over Now, Baby Blue (a Dylan cover) are some of the stand outs from that era. Van's masterwork (IMO) is Astral Weeks (the full album preferably, or just the opening track of that name) and should be on your musical bucket list. It's a sprawling, spaced out journey of visions and memory, reaching for the infinite cosmos by the end, with a group of incredible studio musicians improvising a laid back jazzy accompaniment to magical effect. Sit back and let the music take you to the moon and stars, Alex, while Brad can have fun, puzzling over its haunting, enigmatic lyrics....:-)
That whole album is fabulous. I listen to it over and over and never tire. A great album for relaxing alone or having a drink with friends or to scoop you out of a bad mood.
I always think of that film and Nurse Jenny Agutter in the shower scene when I hear this. She got more than she bargained for when she wished for a man with a hairy chest!😄
Van got his start as an alto sax player in Irish showbands in the early sixties. He can do this type of scat jazz number in his sleep, and probably any other genre there is.
A very cool Jazz-Rock hit from Van, released in January 1970 on the album of the same name. It wasn't released as a single until '77! It sounds like an old fashioned Standup Bass, but indeed it's an electric bass. I've always been partial to WILD NIGHT(the long mix from the Tupelo Honey album), and DAYS LIKE THIS , and also SUMMERTIME IN ENGLAND from the 1980 album Common One - (the whole 15 minute jam).
I've mentioned the story before of how I was driving in the middle of the night in the middle of nowhere when a radio stations played the first side of the Moondance album. This song isbthe second track on the album. Otherworldly experience. I'm having a bittersweet memory of a summer birthday party of a person in my neighborhood. There is always a lot of live music, often including one of my jazz bands. It was an significant birthday for the man of the house and his wife requested we play, among other things, this song. I listened to the recording to hear the bass line so I did the song justice (I play the bass). I learned from a mutual friend a week or two ago that this man is suffering from a terminal illness, so now this song has a different meaning to me now.
No one does smooth jazz like Van Morrison. Except maybe Sade's _Smooth Operator_ - you should check that one out if you haven't already. Both are perfect music for spending alone time with your honey. 🥰
Getting ready to go out music, ha! We listened to this song while getting ready to go out in college every time! 😆 I can still picture my friend putting on her makeup and grooving to this song.
The song was released in January 27, 1970 so it was written before that ,, which would give it an older sound. While I have never researched it it's possible that Van Morrison had some/part or all of the song earlier in his career but either sat on it or needed to get to where he was well known enough for it to get the attention it deserved, and the praise it deserved. Greg Lake, of Emerson, Lake & Palmer, began writing "Lucky Man" when he was only 12 years old, and had, other than what would be ELP finishing touches on it, finished it before ELP was a thing. So in that case there was 11 years between the beginning of writing the song and it being recorded and released. That is not the most common thing in the music business, but it has happened a good number of times over the years.
Van the Man...One of my top 5?....6? right around there....Nice cool bluesy sound....Always liked his style....Not boring or done by many.....relaxed but upbeat enough to get you to tapping your feet or bobbing your head.
Glad you liked it. I am the recording engineer that recorded it at Mastertone Studio in NYC.
That had to be a nice time. Did you guys think, “this will be timeless.”?
It does have a jazzy, old time nightclub sound. This music is just relaxing
Van is so good. This was definitely one of his more jazz influenced tunes. Check out Here Comes The Night, Bright Side Of The Road, And It Stoned Me, Brown Eyed Girl and Into The Night just to name a few. PS & BTW He's touring this year...✌️
Moondance is a cut I’ll NEVER tire of! My pops used to play along with the flute part flawlessly. Peace ✌🏻

He also recruited Pee Wee Ellis former James Brown Band / JB. Also Fred Wesley.
Van Morrison has a very unique vibe. Always enjoyable.
It's definitely a Jazzy vibe from this song. Van Morrison is one of my favorite artists, he has a lot of variety in his songs I Love it!
Swing jazz
My favorite song since 1970! I just love the jazzy vibe and the romance of the song.
Mine too. Even more than Brown eyed Girl. That's saying a lot.
Van Morrison's "Tupelo Honey" is the best, romantic make-out song recorded.
YES!
Oh big time.
Yes. Oh my goodness, yes.
played this at same gig (see above)
Is that right? Is thaaaaaat riiiiiight?
Van Morrison's 1970 album, Moondance, ranks high among the very best of the 20th century. "And It Stoned Me", "Moondance", "Crazy Love", "Caravan", "Into the Mystic", "Come Running", "These Dreams of You", "Brand New Day", "Everyone", "Glad Tidings" -- Morrison swings in some way on every song, like drifting down a lazy river on a warm sunny day, a hot bowl of soup at home after months at sea, a couple dancing in the moonlight. Listen to them all together when you can.
And "Astral Weeks" is arguably the greatest album of the rock era.
@@scottfrench4139 Indeed, Astral Weeks is a great album.
I love the syncopated rhythm of this tune.
the bass does sound like an acoustic upright.
You guys should react to more Van Morrison…
"Someone Like You", "Domino", "Here Comes the Night", "Crazy Love", "Days Like This", "Caravan", "Wild Night", "Gloria", "Sweet Thing", "And It Stoned Me"
🎸🤘
Jackie Wilson says
Half a mouth full of cornflakes, and the rain came pouring down…
I love Days Like This, and the others you suggested too 😉
Blue Money
@JD B not completely true. They have people vote during live stream. The songs that are voted on are picked by number of live stream requests for that song, but the songs can be influenced by superchat gifts.
Van Morrison is a legend “have I told you lately “ or “ healing game” are just a couple gems
Classic combo jazz that's swingin' deep from Van Morrison, who's got soul for days. I'ma go way out onto that limb and recommend you check out Take Five, by Dave Brubeck. It's an instrumental that has this same vibe, but Brad might really dig it.
I concur with this recommendation!
Then, the Stranglers' Golden Brown with Dave Brubeck in the video
That's my favorite song of all time! If they reacted to Take Five I'd be so happy!
They could also react to Al Jarraeu performing, he has vocals in his version.
This is another one of those songs that was so different from everything else at the time it just grabbed you. Van has been my favorite writer, singer, and performer ever since.
Yesss! This song and Tupelo Honey are my go to Van Morrison tunes. Just sit back and relax.
Good job.
Yeah I love Tupelo Honey too
This is 3 piece jazz all day guys, a standup bass, a guy tapping rhythm on a small drum set, and a fat piano player sweating out any song you want to tip them to play in the bar. Classy.
I can totally picture walking into a old school club. Smoke everywhere and Van up on the stage belting this out while I sip on some fine whiskey
This is Jazz Pop. Van Morrison had a unique sound and a number of hits in the 1960s and 70s. When he was with the band Them, they had a hit with "Gloria", which was later a huge cover hit for The Doors.

Van Morrison has a unique vibe, but is also somehow super accessible. There really is no one like him. Great choice!
thats a good way to put it
Lol..... definitely a jazz/rock fusion. Very smooth.
Soul singer, guitarist, pianist, sax player, writer, producer. All-time great. Blues/jazz/rock.
Saw his live show last year - and at 74, still unbelievable!
Brad&Lex, you'll love his "Wavelength" and "Domino" as well!!!
The bass was a stand up bass, that's why it sounds so good.
One of my favorite songs!!! Van Morrison, still listen to him. Thanks guys!
You should check out Caravan, the live version he recorded wit The Band for The Last Waltz movie. It’s SO good!
Van the man.
'Robbed within a week". That made me chuckle. Thank you to both of you. Love your reaction videos.
I've been fortunate to see Van Morrison in concert. One of my favorites upon first hearing him, after purchasing my first album (1975 or so) - "Superstars of the 70's"

Van the man, yes he covered pop, blues, jazz, and even some folk/blues/psychedelic in "Astral Weeks," my favorite LP by him. Thanks for covering him.
The best of the best masterpiece!!!
Thank you!
Moondance, tonight!

I remember that night! It was a beautiful harvest moon and a fun trick or treat! Lots of fallen leaves here in the northeast!
Caught Van Morrison this past May, and the man is a perfectionist performer. The best outdoor sound ever, perfectly balanced and spaced. Absolute joy.
VAN THE MAN!! An iconic genius singer/songwriter for decades
This song is very jazz influenced. That style of bass playing is called ‘walking bass’. All time classic
This is the Title track to one of the great albums of all time. This album is a mandatory listen for any music fan. Pure bliss
One of my top five songs of all time.
So well composed and the lyrics are great.
It talks about romancing a love and the song itself is great to play while on a date while at home making dinner for two.

You’re right in that it definitely has an old school sound- like we’re in some old time jazzy club enjoying the live music, ha! Great song!
a lot of babies were made in the 70s to this song and this album, which is one of the most romantic albums ever made.
Stand up bass has a special sound that just fits with jazz. I've played in jazz bands and love it and when this song came out on the radio, I was really surprised that people my age liked it. Not the typical jazz fans.
A great song from a great album. Glad you folks liked it.
Van Morrison wonderful genius
I've heard this song hundreds of times and never realized what the lyrics were. The song is such a vibe, I just never cared.
Reminds me of good times back in the past.
Very much a cool jazz walking bassline in this one.
It’s the restrained percussion that gives this song it’s smokey feel. That’s where the magic is. Masterful.
This song will forever remind me of my first summer job. Heard it on the radio all the time that summer
The song "Gloria* was played on the radio when I was a very young girl. It was Van Morrison , but his band was called "Them" back then. That was the first time I heard Van Morrison.
One of my favorite songs, from one of my favorite albums. Y'all's reaction just makes it better. Thank you!
A top-5 song of the century. A veritable perfect song.
Great song. But top 5? Get out of here.
@@scottfrench4139 Name the five then
I really like that Brad is starting to loosen up and have a good time with this. He can be pretty funny at times.
An Absolute MUST HEAR Soul Classic,,
Junior Walker & The All Stars "What Does It Take"...TRUST ME On This One!!
One of the best from Van...This entire era of music was so full and rich with talent...Best if times...
Finally some real jams!! Van Morrison is absolutely pure soul!!
It's got a jazz vibe.
Two of the finest while soul singers ever to have walked the earth, Van Morrison and Joe Cocker, both on the same day. Nice.
That’s the sound he was going for here, pure jazz, absolutely a classic.
This is such a great song / performance! Fantastic!
Also Van doesn't follow. He is the real deal.
I've always felt that there was something magical about this one.
As someone that loves jazz, this was always one of my favorite Van tunes. I've likely listened to it a thousand times and it never gets old for me. The vibe just relaxes me to my soul after a long workday
This the Jazz side of Van Morrison coming out. What a talent.
Van (The Man) Morrison Is An Absolutely Legendary Music Icon With A Large Catalog Of Great Music.
As a Bass Player back in the day, I loved playing "Moon Dance" because it gave me a chance to use some jazz chops. It was the only song that gave me that space.
Before Going Solo,, Van (The Man) Morrison Was In This Group Formed In Belfast Ireland (1964)
Them "Here Comes The Night",, "Gloria",, "All For Myself" & "Could You Would You"
I've never been to a wedding reception where Brown Eyed Girl wasn't played, but Moondance is my favorite Van Morrison song
A timeless classic.
This is almost new orleans vibe for me. Lex nails it subconsciously.
'Have I told you lately', 'Days like this', and 'It once was my life' are great Van Morrison songs, but moon dance is just magical
There have been some great jazz covers of this Van original, by different artists. His music often crosses between genres from jazz to blues to pop to whatever.

Tupelo Honey, Wild Night, Brown Eyed Girl. Van has some good tunes out there.
The "robbed within a week" riff was comedy gold. Bravo!
That whole album is fabulous. I listen to it over and over and never tire. A great album for relaxing alone or having a drink with friends or to scoop you out of a bad mood.
In the early seventies I bought this album in a Columbia house twelve for a buck promotion. I was probably fourteen. Loved Van ever since.
Love this song and album! Song was used in the movie "An American Werewolf in London", good film!
I always think of that film and Nurse Jenny Agutter in the shower scene when I hear this. She got more than she bargained for when she wished for a man with a hairy chest!😄
I would love to see them react to the AWIL film - I know song reactions are their MO but this would be really fun 🐶
Van got his start as an alto sax player in Irish showbands in the early sixties. He can do this type of scat jazz number in his sleep, and probably any other genre there is.
I need to have a van Morrison Sunday with a bottle of wine!
Thanks for reminding me!😉✌💛🧡❤💙💚💜
A very cool Jazz-Rock hit from Van, released in January 1970 on the album of the same name.
No one does smooth jazz like Van Morrison. Except maybe Sade's _Smooth Operator_ - you should check that one out if you haven't already. Both are perfect music for spending alone time with your honey. 🥰
I've been listening to Van the Man since the 70's, plus Them and never realised it was "music to get robbed".
Lex you are extraordinary when it comes to music you have a special apreciation for music
Getting ready to go out music, ha! We listened to this song while getting ready to go out in college every time! 😆 I can still picture my friend putting on her makeup and grooving to this song.

Such a good song!!! The original Irish soul singer.
timeless song that NEVER gets old much like many of Van Morrison's other songs.
Lounge! Love it!
Looove Van Morrison for along time already! Check out "Domino" by him next, such a fun banger!!
Van the Man...One of my top 5?....6? right around there....Nice cool bluesy sound....Always liked his style....Not boring or done by many.....relaxed but upbeat enough to get you to tapping your feet or bobbing your head.
Moondance always sounds to me like Van just started singing and the rest of the group followed him. Such a great deconstructed sound.
