There's a town in Mississippi, also called Tupelo, in the deep south of the U.S. It's so interesting how a then young man from Belfast, Northern Ireland, can bring a sweet, swamp grittiness... a soulful feel with immense authenticity and heart, yet also make it universal. That's artistry!
This is one of several "our" songs that my wife and I have by Van. A few others include Moondance, Into the Mystic, I Forgot That Love Existed, and Days Like This.
Van Morrison's recording career spans nearly seven decades. He is is a Northern Irish singer-songwriter & can play guitar, harmonica, keyboards & saxophone. In the mid 60's he was in the band "THEM" & their biggest hits were "Gloria", "Baby Please Don't Go", "Here Comes The Night" & "Mystic Eyes". Van Morrison later went solo & has had tons of hits such as "Brown Eyed Girl", "It Stoned Me", "Into The Mystic", "Moondance", "Crazy Love", "Jackie Wilson Said", "Days Like This" etc.
As you discovered his voice is like another musical instrument so much variety. IMHO No one else has a voice like his. One of my favorite songs. This song came out in 1971 while I was in college and was played countless times during that time and since then.
Tupelo honey is one of the rarest honeys in the world, and for centuries, it was an under-the-radar delicacy found in some regions of swamps and waters in Georgia and Florida, where the white Ogeechee tupelo tree blooms for just a tiny period. Real Tubelo has a slight golden-greenish color and has a touch of a cinnamon, sweet flower taste.
Thanks for playing Van. He's got the sweetest songs. And great upbeat guess too. Thanks for not doing up the sing with spoken comments. I also liked the way you closed your eyes to focus on the music.
In the nine songs on "Tupelo Honey", Van Morrison sings almost exclusively the hymn of love to his then wife Janet Planet in 1971. In the process, he created some of his most beautiful compositions: In addition to the sweet title song and the ballads "You're My Woman" and "Old Old Woodstock", the rhythm & bluesy songs "Starting A New Life" and "(Straight To Your Heart) Like A Cannonball". Another highlight is the storming "Wild Night", one of Morrison's few US single successes.
Such a simple song, it would have been a throwaway for most people. But Van put so much passion and feeling into it, that it was an instant classic. No one else would have sung it that way, or even could have. That was *all* Van Morrison 👍😎
I'm 48 and being a life-long music fanatic, I've always thought about who my all-time favourite artist is. I know, I know, it doesn't really matter, but mine is Van. His music triggers something in me that other great, great artists simply don't (to the same extent). Great reaction 👌🏻
My absolute favorite song of his. When this tune played on the radio you couldn't help but get enveloped by it no matter what mood you were in, kinda like honey.
The great Irish singer/songwriter Van Morrison. I remember when he and his first Band "Them," had their first hit song (Gloria) back in 1965. I was 9 yrs. old The rest is History, with "Brown Eyed Girl," "Moondance," "Wild Night" and so many more. So much soul in this man.
I loved your reaction, Van Morrison is great too from time to time. I think the first time I heard that was in 1974. I always thought the honey came from Tupelo Mississippi. As I got older, I started wondering if he was talking about the sensual sense of the word.
I heard a story that Van was a big admirer of Bob Dylan and moved to Woodstock to live. All the time he was there he never once met Bob Dylan who also lived there. It was said Van who was shy and a bit of a recluse never got up the courage to set up a meeting.
I saw Van perform in a night club in 1981. The Inn of the Beginning in Cotati, California. Maybe a 150 of us crammed into the room on a hot summer night. Charged. Intense. Perfect. By the way, I could watch you all day. Thank you.
Toda una leyenda. ¿Quien no ha escuchado Days Like This?
Its what brought us He-Man lunchbox carry'n kids into school. A feeling of safety and joy. We didnt know it then. In 2024, we know it now. Today is a diffrent day. I wish it wasnt.
78 still fabulous still touring still grumpy. . Had one hell of a go at the Government for not allowing audiences the chance to see him in lockdown.. he even wrote songs about it 😆 🤣 😂 😅
Van was notoriously moody. I went to see him in concert ( it was brilliant ) but he came on in a long black coat and big black hat, never took them off and never spoke a word all night. He didn’t introduce any of his songs so if you didn’t know his catalogue you were stuffed!!!!
Tupelo is close to where Elvis was born.. I'm British and never tasted Tupelo Honey.. but its supposed to be one of the best in the world, like Manuka honey is

One of the very best performances I ever witnessed was with him in Boulder Colorado in 1978. Intense night!
Van the Man. He is uniquely awesome.🤩

Love Van. Seen him twice. He's mellowed in recent years. If yku have a chance ...
Into The Mystic "I wanna rock your gypsy soul". ❤
Van is mesmerizing.. I suggest you react to "I'll be your lover, too", one of the most beautiful songs ever written.
This is one of several "our" songs that my wife and I have by Van. A few others include Moondance, Into the Mystic, I Forgot That Love Existed, and Days Like This.
Van Morrison is a treasure. So many great songs! Thanks for sharing this one.
Van Morrison is the master in a class by himself.
You can never go wrong with Van Morrison... and early Van Morrison (like this song, from 1971) is some of the best music... well, ever! 👍😎
Van Morrison has been one of my favorite singers from the first time I heard him.
Van The Man: Lyricist,Songwriter,Conductor,Singer, etc. and has broad spect. of genres from rock jazz etc. and founder of garage music
One of my favorite love songs. Haven't been there in a long time. Takes me right back there!
"Into The Mystic", and "Moondance" are two of my absolute favorites from Van!

IT'S LIKE Peeling back AN ONION SO MANY LAYERS. 😊😊

Van has it figured out.
60's early 70's music. Listening to the radio, records, everything was whatever you wanted.
Thanks so much for your comments as you listen to this with no talking! No interruption.
Love your facial reactions to this. You get it. Delve deeper into Mr. morrison, you'll be pleasantly surprised.

Your soul shows through young lady. There is a lot behind your eyes.
My absolute favorite song of his. When this tune played on the radio you couldn't help but get enveloped by it no matter what mood you were in, kinda like honey.
Loving the honey metaphor 🤩
Tupelo honey is from a place in the south where the honey is famously sweet and of the best quality.
Van Morrison's Moondance is a must-hear, Sabina. Great reaction!
He`s British.
Tupelo honey, the LP, is by far my favorite album of his! Uplifting and powerful.
Love the written comments vs pausing and talking them. Refreshing. New sub.
You nailed it. Van is (for many decades now of his music) always authentic. And that is its power.
I loved your reaction, Van Morrison is great too from time to time. I think the first time I heard that was in 1974. I always thought the honey came from Tupelo Mississippi. As I got older, I started wondering if he was talking about the sensual sense of the word.
I'm sure that take was done all at once. The band and the singer in the same room at the same time just doing the song.
Bob Dylan once said that “‘Tupelo Honey’ has always existed and Morrison was merely the vessel and the earthly vehicle for it”.
I heard a story that Van was a big admirer of Bob Dylan and moved to Woodstock to live. All the time he was there he never once met Bob Dylan who also lived there. It was said Van who was shy and a bit of a recluse never got up the courage to set up a meeting.
You're a deep listener, I appreciate the written commentary.
The Astral Weeks record is one of the most influential albums in history
Two other songs from this same album that are true standouts (like Tupelo Honey) are the songs *Wild Night* and "You're My Woman" 👍
Wow very smooth n swaying Loves it...😎❣️
Yes, very 😍
I like the way you don't interrupt the songs, but write your feelings down. That' s great!
