I wouldn't say this is required viewing before Bride of Chucky, but it most definitely and exponentially increases the appreciation.
Most of the Bound references are from recent Chucky movies and that terrible show. Definitely not required as Chucky lore. But definitely worth it just as part of the Wachowski's filmography.

The Wachowskis wrote right in the screenplay: "This is the sex scene, and we're not cutting it." Given this was their debute feature, that showed SUCH SPECTACULAR BALLS that producer Joel Silver saw great potential in them and immediately agreed to do The Matrix with them.
If they were ever to do a live action "Betty Boop", Jennifer Tilly would be the top choice.

ME as well. My teens were such a dark time emotionally and socially because I was a butch queer in the Bible belt. Seeing this on cable in 1998 saved my life. It was like a drink of water from Fiji, after nearly DYING from dehydration in the desert. Only the second movie I had seen to not employ the "bury your gays" trope.

This is classic thirties film noir.
"Bound" was directed by the Wachowskis 3 years before they directed The Matrix and the similarities in visual style and sound design are evident here.

The dvd commentary on this movie is WILD.
Jennifer Tilly shows up about half way through and brings ALL the energy.
It's also genuinely a shame that the Wachowskis got so (badly) sidetracked into the wild mega-scale scifi stuff and never did another small, quiet noir flick. Because this is top fucking notch.
This is one of my most favorite movies of all time. I remember watching this when I was 10 or 11 when I found the vhs randomly among my uncles movie shelf.

It's crazy to realize that the other actress who was going to be violet was Linda Hamilton. I still think that casting would have been backward. Linda Hamilton MIGHT have been able to pull off Corky, but not the other way around.

I finally understand the difference between horror and a thriller.
I was surprised to hear that Gina Gershon's agent thought the romantic same sex scene would ruin her career when the year prior in (1995) move Showgirls, she played a bi-sexual dancer. Granted she didn't have any explicit scenes with Elizabeth Berkley, but it wasn't as if she had never had a same sex interest on screen before. But this move is highly underrated.
I hope you both start reacting to more noir, both classic and neo. Love your chemistry and humour. This is such a fun reaction to a movie you rarely see discussed, and I genuinely don't get why it seems so slept on.

❤😊🎉 57:40 the Walkowski sisters really don’t get enough credit to how outside the box they did their movies bound, and the matrix were outside the box Hollywood thinking and I think not knowing for sure think that taking Hollywood tropes and just tweaking it or changing it around for a new take on it is brilliant.
Bound did not necessarily do well in the theaters, but it has become a classic, a true noir classic, and it deserves it
I LOVE this movie so much and you're only the second reactors to cover it (ZZavid did it too!) I had no idea this was the Wachovskis and it certainly makes sense in hindsight. I never even considered Bound had any connetion to the Chucky franchize except the casting of Jennifer Tilly. Great movie, great reaction and great background info provided. Now watch some of my other underrated gem favorites like Fatal Attraction, Conspiracy Theory (Mel Gibson), Fallen (Denzel Washington, Cube, or A Simple Plan.

This movie was actually a test from the studio to see if the Wachowskis were up to making a huge movie before they were given permission to do the Matrix. When it did so well, especially on video, they were given the green light.

What an interesting movie choice! I hadn’t ever heard of this before, but this was great. How this ties into Chucky will be fascinating!
maybe this movie is not talked about too much because it's considered a class B movie. I remember watching/renting it from a videoclub when I was 19 and I was pleasantly surprised how good this movie was, especially by the low budget and the few characters in the movie.

❤😮🎉 58:30 now you girls have me thinking that if the Walkowski sisters and their personal life had these questions of who they really were how it affected, their films bound is a definitely a marker film, traditional male trope noir changed it to have the females be the trope. The matrix classic male lead, but really when you look at it it’s Trinity who saves Neo. She’s the one that makes him the one. I kind of see things differently than when I first watched these movies. Everything about who they are quietly reveals itself about who they truly are inside.

This movie is shot like one of those film noir detective shows. Absolutely bananas.
Don't get me wrong, Gershon and Tilly were phenomenal, but even in the 90's they didn't make movies like this anymore.

I’ve heard this movie referenced in the Chucky stuff but never watched it. I started the reaction and just a few minutes in I decided to pause it to watch the movie myself (on streaming) and I’m glad I did. It was amazing! Immediately after watching it I ran over to amazon and pre-ordered the criterion blu-ray that comes out in June.
