Right in the feels when the princess died 😢
NO for reboot but YES for those two amazing animated movies!!!!
I genuine believe that the Troll Market is exactly what it looks like inside of Guillermo Del Toro’s mind looks like.😊
Agreed
Troll Hunter show can confirm!
I believe the troll market would make a great movie
@@anonymousfreedom4346 not just a movie, I would see a tv series of the Troll Market. He had something like that in the Night Market in What We Do In The Shadows.
Doug Jones was dubbed over in the first movie without his knowledge, and didn't know he would be during filming. He came up with the voice and mannerisms, and in post they decided to replace his performance with David Hyde Pierce (Niles from FRASIER). When they asked Doug to return for the sequel, he actually had to FIGHT for the right to voice the character himself and won.
Wow! I never knew that. Especially weird for me since I saw them out of order 😂
Also to David Hyde Pierce's integrity, after he heard Doug Jones' performance in the first film he wondered why he was even hired for the job and refused to take a credit on the film out of respect for Doug Jones' work. For similar reasons Pierce also turned down offers to voice Abe in future projects leading to those roles going to Doug Jones.
Del Toro promised never to dub over Doug Jones ever again, something he had to go back on with Pan's Labyrinth, but then he ended up doing it with Jones' blessing because he knew he wouldn't get the Spanish right.
How we never got a sequel to this, I'll never know. To say that Del Toro is an absolute genius is a vast understatement, and these movies (and all the rest of his works) are living proof of it.
I don't like this movie, only for the plot or rather the decisions characters made. All logical and made sense, just hate it.
I'd side with the elf. That plant god, that thing was beautiful. Was so sad when it died.
Because budget Guillermo asked for from the studio is way too high, but that was before he became a two-time Oscar winning Director
Mike mignola and Del toro were always at odds when it came to Hellboy, del toro was doing his own thing and Mike wanted to follow the comics, he didn't like that Hellboy was having kids and so much other stuff.
Guillermo Del Toro and Mike Mignola had a severe falling out that ended both their personal and professional relationships with one another. So no third film.
They tried but the studio didn't like the script it was gonna have to twins in it it was in a interview he said he tried for 4 years to get 3 made
The practical effects, costume design, and set design are unbelievable good in this movie. Some of the best ever. I wish del Toro got to make a third one.
It'll blow their minds when they find out Seth McFarlane is Krauss.
Wait seriously 😮?
@@sidtheviciouscritic7292 yup!!! =))
I swear than man is in everything 🙄 😂😂
I can see/hear that. Especially the last line he does at the end.
I always love the scene of Kraus possessing the lockers to beat up Hellboy.
The face mold on the door is one of my favorite effects
I never laughed so hard my dad put me on these movies as a kid and I was beyond excited when I learned about golden army 😂
Luke Goss played an amazing role, thanks to him Nuada became the remarkable antagonist he is
I remember Luke as drummer of 80s band Bros where his twin brother Matt was a singer.
Bada$$ martial artist as well.
You’re right. While Doug Jones played him in both, he was dubbed over in the first film but not the second
I love that David Hyde Pierce refused to be credited for dubbing Abe’s lines because he felt it would detract from Doug’s performance.
Yes I did the research and it says David Hyde did the original voice for Abe and the first one and then the second one they just gave the voice to Doug but to be honest it just sounds the same so I don't know
The death of the elemental got to me as well - you understand why it had to die, but you wish it didn’t. Kudos to Prince Nuada for that move, he forced Hellboy to make a choice, end a species or let it kill, which is the same dilemma the elves faced. Either die, or reclaim.
Well, funny thing, that tree god species actually spreads by spores, so Hellboy killing it actually just allowed it to finally not be the only one
@@samcochran8203 I guess humanity or some other force burned most of them during the war or something?
One of the few instances where the sequel surpassed the original.
- "Give him a reason to live."
- "You`re going to be a father."
- "No, I said give him a reason to LIVE."
Nah, one kid is fine but twins... about time Hellboy goes to the gas station for some Newports and doesn't come back 🤣
53:40 Wow, she really overthought this, when they say the army is “indestructible” it means the army just repairs itself
Luke Goss is a really underrated actor who does his own stunts. Often overlooked because of his physical performances you should look up some of his other films where he does some good acting. He did a good creature in the 2004 Frankenstein.
As always, great respect for Selma Blair who continues to be a symbol of strength for all those who have life-affecting illnesses and injuries.
And yes, it was Seth McFarlane who voiced Kraus.
Fun movie, great reaction, but unfortunately there are no more. But, if you want more Del Toro weirdness, you need to see Pan’s Labyrinth.
Yaasssss! Pan’s Labyrinth ❤❤
This is one of my favorite comic book movies ever. Really love that Del Toro just went full fantasy with it. Absolute shame he never got to do a third movie.
Can we just get a shirt of Tara yelling “Ring the Bell!”
Please???
Front could be her "CITIZENS OF THE REJECT NATION!!!"
The back could be her "Ring the BEEEELL, RING THE BELL!!!"
I just realized that they liked my comment, I’ve been seen
@@fireeaglefitnessmartialart935 even freaking better
This is not only one of my favorite comic book movies but one of my favorites of all time. The script is super memorable with great lines of dialog. Also one of the funniest cut to credits.
So David Hyde Pierce refused to really take credit for the part because he had immense respect for Doug Jones who is the physical actor for Abe. So by the time the second came around, he didn’t even want to do it. He said that Doug Jones should be the one to do it.
Reference to Arnold in Kindergarten Cop:
"It's not a tumor!"
"It's like, 'Darth Maul doesn't have s*&^ on me!'" LOL! YES!!!! There was a time when I spent two minutes a day angry that there would never be a Part III. THANKS for this!!!!
Same here, in terms of grieving for the never-made third movie.
I love Del Toro's style, it's such a beautiful mix of otherwordly whimsical fantasy and horrifying dangerous. The second Hellboy was better than the first and I will forever be sad we never got a third.
Same here.
In the first film Abe was played in-scene by Doug Jones and voiced by David Hyde Pierce, in this sequel Doug Jones does the whole performance. He also plays the Angel of Death and King Balor's counselor.
Yep, I love the first one, but Golden Army is my fav of the Del Toro HB films. So much lore for this world, and as a fantasy nerd, this setting is amazing, blending "real" and fantastical.
I like the fact that Hellboy is actually the villain in this movie
45:24 I had to look it up because the voice sounded so familiar, and I was 100% right. Seth MacFarlane is the voice of Johann Krauss
Woot this movie is great! One of the best sequel imo. Seth McFarlane is awsome as Kraus. Love how he got the same guy that played the villian in blade 2 to play the villian here. Luke goss has done some great villian chars.
Luke was so good! Both in this and Blade 2
Which HELLBOY flick is your favorite??
1st one. Kroenen the best.
I think this one is my favourite . Although it’s different tone wise it’s for me more enjoyable . Plus the fight scenes are insanely good
Such a hard question. I like them both for different reasons. I like the first one for how fresh it was and though different than the comic book, it captured the spirit of it so well. And it was such a great origin story.
On the other hand, the second one was such great pure horror fantasy. Reminded me of some of the best urban fantasy in literature.
The second one is probably my favorite, overall. It’s better fantasy.
I love this one they really made you feel for the villain born of a race that love nature forced into a position where they can do nothing to stop its destruction. The prince's weapons were also really awesome and the way he used them, that throne room fight is spectacular.
This one.
The puppets at the intro are so cool I almost wish it was like that the whole film.
"The Golden army must not be awakened"
A few hours later:
Sad there won't be a 3rd one.
The mix of practical and Cgi in this film work so well.
And Doug Jones killing it in multiple roles, the master.
Seth McFarland was funny too.
This is a very underrated movie, not perfect but still pretty good, lots of cool practical effects
Prince Nuada was an interesting villain too, wishing mainly to protect his own race from extinction
14:30 My favorite scene♥ The Tooth Fairy hungrily crawled into his pants
I believe that's actually Doug Jones voice this time around for Abe. At the time I saw this in theaters it didn't throw me off as much since I had gotten used to seeing him in other movies and TV shows. But I understand it sounds different if you watch the Hellboy movies back to back, it's more noticeable. Also, it's a pretty funny the plot point in the beginning about Hellboy being exposed to the public since in the comics, he's a known public figure almost from the beginning. Which means that the comic book version's universe is populated by so much paranormal weirdness that some big red horned guy walking around seems mundane. Of course most of Hellboy's adventures take place outside of major cities. The series has him frequent very old world locations, country sides, and isolated areas the majority of the time, rarely in a big city like in the movies. Despite that, it's still pretty amusing that people in the comics, even in these settings, just react casually when Hellboy walks up and starts asking them questions about some creature they witnessed or encountered, while smoking a cigarette
you did it! can’t wait to watch this, one of my favourite movies ever
really enjoyed Hellboy ll. this made me want to go and rewatch it.
Hellboy at full power is more powerful than Thanos with all the Infinity Stones.
So excited for this sequel reaction! One of the few decent sequels out there. Love this Tara/Andrew reaction duo too. Funny and informative.
Del Toro has said he needs 200
Mill
To make his 3rd film and knows it hard for a studio to give him that much for a older franchise
and now every shitty disney movie blows that out the water...
I love him! "Sounds like the Deku tree from Zelda!" Nice
29:37 in defense of the first Hellboy there was no direct fight with Rasputin, but only the Behemoth entity that came out of him which made sense to be CGI. You also had Kronean as the more skilled fighter
I love the HellBoy movies.
I just wish that Guillermo Del Toro and Ron Perlman would have made a third film in the series, but instead, we got a God awful reboot from 2019.
Reboot just bad
Tara’s Energy is unmatched. Love her. 🙏🏾
Based on your reaction to the first part of this movie, y'all might like to react to the 2010 Guillermo Del Toro movie: Don't Be Afraid of the Dark.
The nightmares that bloody film gave me. The stove bit at the end ugh, makes my skin crawl. 😬
@sugarandchaos I can't believe I watched it. I already had issue's with little creatures out to get me from Gremlins. forget giant monsters... little creatures are the true nightmare fuel.
I used to get breakfast at 4 am in New York when I was younger before I caught the train at 6 am back to Jersey to jump in the shower and get to work at 8, the city never sleeps
So excited to see Andrew and Tara react to this movie! This sequel is pretty great! 👍
Seth MacFarlane was so underrated as Krauss. I kinda wish that he used that voice on Family Guy.
American Dad has a German accent goldfish. Is that not Seth?
I remember when this came out. For some reason, people weren't excited about it at the time. There was little enthusiasm, people wouldn't really talk about it despite the advertising. The Dark Knight came out the same year, and there was a ton of enthusiasm for that. Its a shame
Not ashamed to say that i had the biggest crush on Prince Nuada growing up 🫠
33:52-Lol literally EVERYONE who's reacted to this movie has said that 😂
Lol The Flash will now always make me think of CGI babies haha
0:31 - That was…I FELT THAT
An epic fantasy flick filled with great visuals and gripping action sequences that are well integrated in its immersive story. In my personal opinion, this is one of del Toro's best films.
I loved how he basically yelled at her during the market fight lol 😆
Tara! Andrew! Was wondering if you two were going to watch the 2nd! Awesome! It's a solid sequel.
Great movies wish we got to see the 3rd one.
Great movie. Good reaction. Maybe turn the movie audio down on the headphones so they don't have to yell at each other to be heard? I mean, they're sitting 2 feet apart but talk like they're in separate rooms.
Like gross is just amazing I love they brought him over from Blade two he plays Jared Nomak and the prince perfectly as the antagonist in both films, you get his reasons but it’s how he chooses to go about it.
"Yup, you're in love. Have a beer." 😂 A gentleman and a scholar.
You guys need to check out 'The Devil's Backbone' That movie is amazing! Also 'Pan's Labyrinth'
Some of my friends worked on this back in the day. They made of the background characters for the underground market.
The Can’t Smile Without You scene is one of my favorite movie moments EVER.
When Rasputin dies in the first movie, we cheer, he's horrible. When Nuada dies, we cry! He had a point (kinda) and it's just sad, the world really does get poorer with his people's fading. He's tragic, and it's a shame him and Nuala had to die.
so stoked to watch this with y'all i might need to re-subscribe to patreon for this one
Andrew's screaming is my favorite. Lol
That market scene is one of the best practical effects scenes of all time lol
This is the perfect sequel in my opinion. One of my favorite Guillermo Del Toro films of all time ❤
So glad you got to see this film. It’s my favorite of the two because of the creative new creatures, the princess and Abe’s budding love story, and beautiful sets.
FAB!! Luke Goss is on top form in the fight choreo, just like he was in Blade 2. In terms of tracking shots ... Have you guys watched the 1998 Brian De Palma thriller SNAKE EYES with Nicholas Cage and Gary Sinise ...12 min opening tracking shot - exquisite!! Well worth a reaction!
I have not seen this film yet. i gotta do this soon. Nice video thanks for the entertainment!
One of my favorite del toro films of all time!
So crazy that I couldn’t originally recall much of this movie besides the scenes in the beginning (up to the tooth fairy creatures part) and the creepy Angel of Death looking character, but I remember the cat lady and the inching of the blade towards _a_ heart so clearly. Strange that those parts of those scenes stuck in my mind, but I could never remember where they were from.
Del Toro also did multiple animation series on Trollmarket and Arcadia. Trollhunters
Prince Nuada is THAT DUDE
What a gem among other comic movies! it's funny, spectacular, touching, scary and hideous. Guillermo had set unbelievably high plank with Hellboy 2. Now is 2024 and it has barely aged a day. Thanks for your reaction. I appreciate so much love for films that i adore myself so i dare to recommend you check 'Lone Ranger' with Johnny Depp, 'Sherlock Holmes' with Robert Downey Jr, 'The Grand Budapest Hotel' with Ralph Fiennes, 'La migliore offerta' with Geoffrey Rush, 'Escape Plan' with Sly and Arnie, 'The Watch' with Ben Stiller, 'Paul' with Simon Pegg and Nick Frost.
Doug Jones's also plays the Asset in Shape of water, in my mind it's Abe Sapiens origin story 😤. Love that movie too
Btw, if you guys haven't seen Pan's Labyrinth (another del Toro film), it's amazing as well. Definitely recommend it if you guys haven't.
Prince Nuada: "Is there anyone here who would dispute my right?"
Tara: "Uh, Yeah. We all do, I think."
Tara, you are so subtly funny. I love it!😂
"They remind me of the cockroaches from Mimic"
Well, that was also directed by Del Toro, so him and his team may have done similar designs.
The first film had a budget of 60-70 million and the second 85 million. It also looks better than what we are getting more and more of these days.
Man I saw this movie in theaters with my brothers back in 08. I was so disappointed when they didn't make a third film, I was waiting years for a third movie, but we never got it. Damn shame.
in 2016 there was a museum exhibition of Guillermo Del Toro's work in the Los Angeles County Museum of Art; for a time you could have seen all his stuff irl in the right here in Cali.
iirc he converted his house into a museum of classic horror monsters and a lot of his work would obviously be in his own museum; thoudg i don't know if that's still a thing
"Long shots give me um, all day baby" Alright, we'll just leave it at that Tara, no need to elaborate lol
I love this film, visually it is such a treat. Del Toro makes such beautiful worlds. Still gutted we didn't get to complete the trilogy. 😕
The cgi is great in this one better than a lot of more modern films
Such a shame it was decided to do a reboot which btw started near the end of the comics. While the reboot was closer in plot to the comics, the Del Toro movies really nailed the themes and visual story telling which made the comics so good
Pre-pandemic, yep, 3 AM traffic on the Brooklyn Bridge could be bad sometimes
36:25 The woman was played by a hungarian actress and the agent who was killed by the tooth fairies earlier is also played by a hungarian actor because this movie was mostly filmed here in Hungary!!
David hyde pierce voiced Abe Sapien in first Hellboy while Doug Jones did acting part. Story is that David refused to take credit for the voice in respect to Doug Jones and did not come back for part 2 so Doug can do both voice and physical part.
This movie is SO. FREAKING. GREAT! I really wish Del Toro was able to make his Third movie... 💜
Abe is Doug Jones in both films and he also played the amphibian man in shape of water.
I've been dying to rewatch this one. Glad to see it with the Reel Rejects! Hellboy 2 Rules!
Yo- your reactions are SUPER loud. It sounds like both of you are yelling like you’re at a monster truck show that everyone has ear-gear for!!! 😂😂
id love a 3rd one that cold opens with his twins as toddler/1year olds, they grow fast canonically, but the actual story follows them as teens getting into more trouble than usual because they look human but are powerful. where their parents and the reformed group need to step in and then everyone woks together for the 2nd half, maybe we'd see their rare demon forms.
When Roxy and Tara get to Curse Of Chucky and Cult Of Chucky, Greg better make sure they watch the unrated cuts for those movies since the theatrical cuts don't have the post credit scenes that set up the next installment because Greg keeps skipping the unrated versions like he did with The Descent, Jennifer's Body and the Saw movies.
Same guy who did this also did the monster work in Pan's Labyrinth
Luke Goss was also part of the Group Bros with his brother Matt the band from 80s
34:09 gotta respect the "Scream 3" reference lol.
I love Hellboy, I never read the comics, but I absolutely love all the movies and his character. He’s such a fun guy with a hilarious sense of humor. The guy who played the Prince gave me Tom Cruise Interview with a Vampire vibes ☺️☺️☺️
PS I love when Tara and Andrew speak in different Accents 🥰❤️🔥🤣
Not sure if it was mentioned, but if you're into anime watch the Fatal Fury Special film (Fatal Fury the motion picture) I think it's called sometimes. Literally the exact same story. Not sure if that's where Guillermo got the plot idea from. But it's crazy.
I highly recommend watching the making of of this. The practical and prop effects are ridiculous. Like the shot when Nuada holds up the green bean in the egg? They actually built a huge version of the egg and bean (and his thumb) to shoot the extreme close-up. Also the final shot of Nuada's statue body breaking apart is an actual prop statue getting destroyed in a controlled manner, which they apparently only had one shot at to get right.
12:00 Doug Jones plays Abe Sapien. This is Doug Jones' voice in this movie. In the first movie, they dubbed his voice with the voice of David Hyde Pierce from Frasier (because he was a bigger name), and they didn't tell Doug Jones they were going to do it. When Pierce found this out, he refused to take official credit for voicing the role and withdrew from any press or premieres out of respect for Doug Jones. Doug Jones playing the whole character (including the voice) in this movie was the studio righting a wrong.
