For the year 2020, the pre-pandemic era and as an long-awaited movie adaptation of a classic video-game franchise; this was awesome. One of the producers of The Fast Saga, Neal Moritz is lead producer of this franchise. For the storyline they mix up elements from some of the franchise such as the original game (1991), the first Sonic Adventure game (1998) and the anime series Sonic X (early 2000s). Ben Schwartz as the voice of Sonic is great. Jim Carrey as Robotnik is totally perfect and harkens to his 1990s vibes. James Marsden as Mike the Sheriff was cool too. I saw this at AMC in the Dolby Cinema format. It was more than just a video-game movie. It had heart and humor, also the idea that for Sonic to be the hero he is, he needs to be encouraged by those close to him. That no one is ever really alone in the world. Those action sequences of Sonic doing what he does best are amazing and the nods to the games are perfect. This became the no.1 film adaptation of a video-game in U.S. release and broke the opening-weekend box offce record held by Pokémon:Detective Pikachu (2019). Your gonna like The 2022 sequel and the Knuckles original series.
Its great to see the 90s version of jim carrey aka the old school jim carrey that always brings laughter plus he was so great as the grinch in the live action movie

Just wanted to point out that 'Dr. Eggman' is Robotnik's second official name. It's actually his original name from the Japanese version of the games, and it was later made canon in the English version, as Sonic's nickname for Robotnik, because his body is egg-shaped. In most modern games, he is usually called Eggman instead of Robotnik.
I'm really glad the producers took the time to redesign Sonic from the monstrosity they had before. I also really love the casting of Jim Carrey as Dr. Robotnik.
Fun fact, that last general in that meeting room you posted a fact about is Garry Chalk, who voiced Eggman in sonic underground and was optimus primal in beast wars and beast machines and then voiced optimus prime in armada, energon, and cybertron. I was so excited when I saw him when I saw him as a big nerd.
Tara, Jury Duty was FANTASTIC. It is so damn funny. Marsdan was so so good in it. He really displayed his improv chops and his acting skills. The whole thing was so damn funny.
To answer Andrews question, the term Badniks is indeed an Easter Egg, it's the group name for what Robotnik's animal robots from the Sonic games are called. Some of the other Easter Eggs in the movie are the name of the town, Green Hills, is a reference to the first levels of the Sonic games called Green Hill Zone. Tails in the credits scene is voiced by Colleen O'Shaughnessy, the lady that voices him in the games. Sonic talking about chili dogs is an Easter Egg in itself, as Sonic's favorite food is often said to be chili dogs. the "Blue Devil" drawing that the guy has in the movie is a reference to a Sonic "meme" where Sonic is poorly drawn like that and referred to as Sanic. the editors seemed to have picked up on it, but Sonic not liking the Mushroom World is very likely a reference to his rivalry with Mario and the Mushroom Kingdom from back in the day. Glad to hear you guys loved the movie, I grew up with Nintendo, but I also played a lot of Sega and Sonic cause my buddies had Sega, so Sonic is just as much of my childhood as Mario and the other Nintendo characters are, so I loved this movie as well. You guys should absolutely watch the sequel, it has a lot of Sonic references in that as well and is just as amazing. They are also releasing a 3rd movie in December I believe, and they just recently started airing a Knuckles show that takes place in the same Universe as these movies. Video game movies have definitely been having a Renaissance recently, and this movie has been a big part in that.
One of the generals sitting at the table actually voiced Eggman in Sonic Underground And in the behind the scenes they showed Concept art that shows Chris Evans when he was one of the options to play as Tom
When she mentioned how she liked how Sonic looked like he did in the game, I wonder if she knew what they were going to have him look like at first. I went to see this movie just out of respect for the film crew going back and changing it. Made all the difference. I don't know why anyone would try and do what they were going to in the first place, but respect for them listening to the fans.
My only criticism of Jim carrys robotnik, is the lack of chubbyness. But that's not an important enough detail to care. Otherwise, this was a great movie. I like flash in reactions, but taras reactions just make me happy and smile.
Loved this reaction. Great team ups as always reject nation. BTW that horrible sonic look is still "around" they show up in chip and dale rescue rangers movie from disney lol. You gotta see that cameo.
I just noticed during this watch that when sonic is running down the building and San Francisco and catches the ring with a straw, it makes "ding" collection noise from the games
It seems James Marsden has a penchant for animated animal sidekicks. In Enchanted, he had a chipmunk called Pip. Hop, it was EB the Easter Bunny. Now Sonic the Hedgehog!
I'd just like to say the turtle Sonic saved should have been a frog trying to cross the road. Don't forget: Frogger is an original SEGA property. It would have been such a perfect reference since there's no way Frogger can be made into a full movie without being a Frogger documentary.
This was so much fun to watch! JIM CARREY FOR LYF ❤. I love how supportive yall are! I’m not a gamer so I wasn’t sure about all the Easter eggs but it’s always okay because Encyclopedia is always there to lay it down. 😂❤
I cried like a baby, when I saw this at the theater for the first time. The language Jim used was Japanese The other minion of Eggman in the original cartoon was a robot with drills and treadmills called Grounder (also an enemy in the 2nd game). His voice actor also happenes to be one of the government men in this movie
This is truly one of the best, if not the best, movies based on a video game, ever. It honors the game, with lots of easter eggs, and it is just a great movie!
Adam Pally is amazing in Band-Aid a musical film with Zoe Lister Jones and Fred Armisen as his band mates, Zoe being his wife and Fred the wacky neighbor
I am still amazed that the studio listened to the backlash to the first trailer and redesigned Sonic to actually look like Sonic instead of the grounded realistic monstrosity the execs pushed on the director. If they hadn’t the film woulda flopped hard but they came through for the fans and we came through for them.
If you like James Marsden, you have catch his shot at being a Disney Prince Charming, in "Enchanted" (with Amy Adams as Princess Giselle). The premise is simple: what if the wicked stepmother exiled the beautiful princess into the real world?
I had no expectations for this movie and it totally blew me away, and 2 is even better! Who'da thunkit? I also love that Tara is on two horror trains and is throwing in these other watches too, she is the channel at this point.
Loving the review 🥰❤️🔥🥰. Sonic 3D was my favorite game. The fact you could go back in time was awesome. The detail on the fire tracks on the ground when you ran fast enough was the “Back to The Future” cherry on top.
loved seeing this one, you two were as hilarious as the movie itself.. heheheh So glad to see and hear Andrew's comments about suspending his belief and just to go with it.. so many times i keep seeing everyone trying to place reality into these animated and fictional stories it drives me up the wall.. they have already broken reality from the start, quit tying to make it come back, and just enjoy the ride.. ;) hehehehehe You HAVE to do the second one as well, it just continues this fun ride, and you'll have another ball with it.. :)
If it makes you guys feel better, in the second movie (NO SPOILERS) they hint that Sonic's Adoptive mom DID kill them and maybe ALL them for reasons knuckles explains, but my guess is either she killed all those guys or she last second got back up from other owls and fought them back eliminating both Echidna and Owls in the process

Im ready for Sonic 2 already 😭
Watch him mix up the reference at 27:31 🤣 “Pop quiz, Hotshot” “Popshot, Hot Quiz”
One of the generals sitting at the table actually voiced Eggman in Sonic Underground
And in the behind the scenes they showed Concept art that shows Chris Evans when he was one of the options to play as Tom
I know Greg and John already watched it, but I want Tara and Andrew to watch Sonic 2(and maybe the Knuckles show)
Andrew got all those people in the conference room scene with the military guys, but missed Colonel Tigh from Battlestar Galactica
30:45. That's the same statement like in Sonic The Hedgehog 2 when Fox fell asleep in the fire 😊❤
My only criticism of Jim carrys robotnik, is the lack of chubbyness. But that's not an important enough detail to care.
Otherwise, this was a great movie. I like flash in reactions, but taras reactions just make me happy and smile.
I think he will be chubby in Sonic 3 for sure
Loved this reaction. Great team ups as always reject nation. BTW that horrible sonic look is still "around" they show up in chip and dale rescue rangers movie from disney lol. You gotta see that cameo.
I just noticed during this watch that when sonic is running down the building and San Francisco and catches the ring with a straw, it makes "ding" collection noise from the games
8:07 that drawing wasn’t made for the movie, it is a meme drawing by a fan known as Sanic
It seems James Marsden has a penchant for animated animal sidekicks.
In Enchanted, he had a chipmunk called Pip.
Hop, it was EB the Easter Bunny.
Now Sonic the Hedgehog!
I love how well Sonic knows Speed. He shot the hostage! Or threw them off the roof in this case.
Angels in the Outfield was a major childhood movie for me… Realizing Neal McDonough was in it hit me like a bolt of lightning…. Jose can you seeee!
I'd just like to say the turtle Sonic saved should have been a frog trying to cross the road. Don't forget: Frogger is an original SEGA property. It would have been such a perfect reference since there's no way Frogger can be made into a full movie without being a Frogger documentary.
Sega does what Ninten-don'ts.
This was so much fun to watch! JIM CARREY FOR LYF ❤. I love how supportive yall are! I’m not a gamer so I wasn’t sure about all the Easter eggs but it’s always okay because Encyclopedia is always there to lay it down. 😂❤
27:34 Did he just say “popshot hot quiz?”
Yes he did!
Unpopular opinion but I liked Knuckles more than this film & it’s sequel
I cried like a baby, when I saw this at the theater for the first time. I’ve been a Sonic fan since I was a kid 🥰 his personality and energy is kinda like me 😁 I’m still in awe that we finally got this movie 🥹 Sonic 2 literally exceeded my expectation and I had a scream of joy in the theater and my family looked at me like I went psycho 😂 I love Sonic The Hedgehog 💙🩵
Tara 🤍ing James Marsden, same girl, the fact that he was good looking, great actor, & could sing & yet didn’t become an A list leading blows my mind!
The language Jim used was Japanese
The other minion of Eggman in the original cartoon was a robot with drills and treadmills called Grounder (also an enemy in the 2nd game). His voice actor also happenes to be one of the government men in this movie
This is truly one of the best, if not the best, movies based on a video game, ever. It honors the game, with lots of easter eggs, and it is just a great movie!
the time when robotnik sees sonic for the first time is super funny 😄😅😂🤣
Robotnik's song choice was Where Evil Grows by the Poppy Family from 1971
Adam Pally is amazing in Band-Aid a musical film with Zoe Lister Jones and Fred Armisen as his band mates, Zoe being his wife and Fred the wacky neighbor
I am still amazed that the studio listened to the backlash to the first trailer and redesigned Sonic to actually look like Sonic instead of the grounded realistic monstrosity the execs pushed on the director.
If they hadn’t the film woulda flopped hard but they came through for the fans and we came through for them.
Keanu Reeves is the ONLY person in existence who could have voiced Shadow!
Literally put this movie on last night because I hadn’t seen it in a while, then u guys upload watching it today. 😂
If you like James Marsden, you have catch his shot at being a Disney Prince Charming, in "Enchanted" (with Amy Adams as Princess Giselle). The premise is simple: what if the wicked stepmother exiled the beautiful princess into the real world?
The skiing is a reference to the show and games btw
45:31 Well, Robotnik has been more known as “Eggman” than Robotnik for the past two decades
I had no expectations for this movie and it totally blew me away, and 2 is even better! Who'da thunkit? I also love that Tara is on two horror trains and is throwing in these other watches too, she is the channel at this point.
Also in the military council scene four actors were in Stargate SG-1 series... whish was also shot in Canada. :))
39:46 was my favorite part of the film.
Ah Jim is magnificent as Dr Eggman can't wait for the new movie so glad Jim stayed.
This movie is so much fun! Jim Carrey is so great and funny in this movie! 👍
