Jim Carrey played Dr. Robotnik so perfectly. Also, I love how Sonic kept calling Tom "Donut Lord" X'DDDD.
And it all ties into how Robotnik gets his “Dr. Eggman” moniker lol

James Marsden never gets enough credit.
He combines the chiseled hero with the comedic straightman with the rare ability to act opposite a non-existent character.
He first demonstrated this in Enchanted and then Hop.
In Hop he acted opposite the son of the Easter Bunny, voiced by Russel Brand.
The wrong live actor can pull you out of the movie, but he can pull off the everyman in a romcom or partly animated with equal talent.
He's also amazing in Westworld!
Yeah, it's REALLY hard to act like you're interacting with a CG character.
"Does that mean we are going to get a part 2?" Haha yes yes we already did.
And we've got the 3rd coming this year along with the Knuckles spin off & a possible Shadow one in the future
With the perfect combination of Sonic and Jim Carrey, any 90’s kid would agree it’s impossible not to have fun with this movie.
Also I freaking love how Sonic acts just like me and my friends did when we were kids, running around everywhere, never shutting up, and always trying to have fun with friends.🤣🤣🤣
Sonic throwing them off the building had to be Speed inspired. He shot the hostages! The bad guy never expects the hero to do that.
Well, Sonic knocking them off the building might be a reference to something else within the Sonic franchise. But I'll get to that stuff when they do the second movie.
You gotta watch the 2nd one!!!! It touches on the found family dynamic even more!

It was so bad that it became a meme. Everyone who saw the trailer was saying the movie would probably be good if they fixed Sonic's design, and they did exactly that.
I'm so glad that the studio listened to the fans and changed Sonic's design and made him look more accurate. Awesome reaction ladies ❤
What's funny is that it was someone from Sega who saw the fan reaction and then told Jeff Fowler it should be changed. And Jeff agreed wholeheartedly.

I had the same feelings for this after watching the Super Mario movie. Good adaptation of the film and I like the direction they are going for the future films. Jim Carrey absolutely carried this though.

There is a Second Sonic Movie and in April Knuckles is getting his own TV Show and December 20th Sonic the Hedgehog 3 will be watchable in theaters

Been watching Jim Carrey since I was a kid in the late-1990s. The more I learn of him, the more I dig him. Including what he was saying about getting right with Christ. Glad he's coming back as Eggman!

After this movie, James Marsden would go on to voice a character in My Little Pony. I don't know if it was this that caused it, but around that time, bronies really started to latch onto the Sonic franchise.
i mean i would have liked jaleel white to voice sonic again but that's probably a minority opinion. they had to add enough to make a coherent movie without making absolutely everything cgi that it doesn't feel like an adaptation of the games, but that is fine. sonic games have enough unrelated timelines we can slot this in its own timeline unrelated to any games without feeling off.
In the first sonic trailer, (if I recall correctly) Sonic looked awful and everyone hated it. Then the studio spent a lot to make the change and all this ended up being positive attention for the film

I must say I was very surprised when I first saw this. I think I just expected a movie for small children or something but it ended up being quite entertaining. I wasn't as impressed with the second one but that could just be me. It was still a fun watch for sure. Super glad they changed Sonic's look. I'm normally all for realism and stuff like that but it just looked so wrong. Jim Carrey was insanely good.

Once they changed the look of Sonic to this version all the elements in this movie were perfect. This movie was 10/10 for me.

Probably one of the greatest financial decisions ever made in film was changing the original sonic concept they had for this film back to the cartoon-ey version like the game and show.
Both Sonic The Hedgehog movies are awesome! IMAO at this film. I never thought I'd enjoy a video gane movie.

I really enjoyed this one, Jim Carrey was perfect as Dr. Robotnik! Hearing Jim Carrey scream "Of course I want a latte, I love the way you make them!" Is something I will never get tired of. The second movie is even better, and the third movie is scheduled to release in December 2024!

So glad that after the trailer came out they delayed the move a bit and redid the character design for Sonic. The original design they had looked like a generic (copyright safe) sonic inspired stuffed toy.
