RIP David Bowie 🤍
RIP Mick Ronson 🤍
died of the same thing
dont let anybody bullshit you. youth is everything. I want to remember Bowie like this
SO do I my friend. I saw him live the first time in the late 70's
yep...youth is everything and anything to the contrary is indeed bullshit!
i was 17 when i last watched this on midnight special, i'm now 68, still feel like that young girl who embroidery his name on my blue jean bell bottoms
*David Bowie & Mick Ronson... **_R.I.P._** !*
Aynsley Dunbar on drums.
⚡️🥁⚡️
always a class act
i was wondering who the drummer is, the brutha's killin' it
Didn't he play for journey on the first two albums with steve perry ?
Ronson was the quintessential example of what it meant to be a rock guitarist
Mick Ronson is so underrated. I loved his playing especially on Diamond Dogs and Aladdin Sane.
pure rock royalty
Underrated comment is overrated
Earl Slick did the guitar work on Diamond Dogs.
Mick was a great guitarist sadly missed and taken way to soon 😢
I never missed the Midnight Special back in the day. Watching this is like being in a Time Machine. It transports me back to my Junior year, sitting in my bedroom, watching this in rapped attention thinking how cool it is to be living in this time with my whole life before me. And what a life it’s been.
I only wish today’s youth have the same outlook. But I don’t think they do. So incredible to think this performance was so long ago, when it seems so fresh still.
Thank you .
this is the best live version of Space Oddity I have ever heard
I recommend you look up VKGoesWild... it's a keyboard solo.
live versions usually disappoint me slightly but I think this one is just as good as the hit studio version
I think this is the best version period
Finally, Midnight Special!! We have been waiting for those Bowie's video performances for YEARS!!! Guys, that was 50 YEARS AGO! There are some of those videos here on RUclips and in other bootlegs but not with a good image quality. THOSE COME STRAIGHT FROM THE ORIGINAL TAPES! CONGRATULATIONS! When Bowie recorded that in London in 1973, it was recorded after many hours of rehearsals. Why not release some of this extra footage too?
I’ve been following David Bowie since 1972. I played the hell out of this. Still know all the Lyrics
I remember watching these in the 70s, thought I was getting away with something bc my parents were asleep! had me feeling like a rebel lol
Love it!
Thats funny because i did the same. I definitely found bowie’s cross gendering pretty weird, weird in a way cool way that i couldnt understand!
Mick Ronno Ronson bringing the song out full throttle.
'Love him.
The resemblance to Randy Rhoads is uncanny.
RIP Mick, Randy and of course, David Bowie.
Absolutely! Greatness
Absolutely
Probably the coolest Mormon ever.
So crazy watching talent like this, there is unfortunately nothing like this today.
We have Lizzo and the always amazing Cardi-B
Well, Kanye pushes the elements and is an amazing talent, although the political haters (who used to love him) will insist different.
Well said !
@@PNW_Sportbike_Life I gather your'e takin the piss!
Your so right
A true rock star… im55 years old and I just want to say thank you David for all the wonderful music and memories…. Your songs truly are the sound track to my life… RIP my brother, love you!
a fabulous live version! thanks midnight special❤
Glad you enjoyed it!
This is excellent! Thank you for posting. I didn't realize how strong Mick Ronson was on backing vocals. So many talents.
Ronno is Bowies ‘secret weapon’, Genius & just love his open jacket, the man is 🥵!! 😂
He also was very good songwriter, arranger, and producer as well.
Mick's vocals blended into David's so well that some of their live harmonies sound like two Bowies.
Im 69 & have seen Bowie either 5 or 6 times & he was an amazing talent. I'm lucky to have seen the world's best, my heads never left the music I got to listen to from about 1967 onwards & go see live from 1970 on.
Always amazed how sound and video from that era is often superior to today's digital stuff.
Don't know if a person has to actually have recorded on both Tape & Digital (Pro - Tools, etc) ,but such a different feel & result with tape. Seems like even non-musicians knew the difference without even knowing it.
Live TV. The drum sound blows me away!!! Wow!
that’s Aynsley Dunbar on drums. ⚡️🥁⚡️
he has generations ahead of other artist his creativity was so high.......God bless him and Mr Ronson
50 years later The dude still looks cool .

I played this video on the midnight of my birthday, I been a fan of David Bowie since I was a teenager, this is one of the best versions I have ever seen of this song and I feel this is a great way to start my birthday.
Planet Earth is Blue, and there's nothing I can Do! You make me happy my beautiful David! You were my beginning ,you'll be my end! 🎶 ❤❤
Ziggy Stardust & Mick Ronson !!! My favorite years !
Very good, Mick Ronson wow
OMG.. Man, i love this Live version.. a thing of beauty!.
Oh, for the days when the greatest artists on Earth would take the time to grace the TV world with their craft. I didn't know much about David Bowie until this performance, and I became a lifelong fan thanks to the Midnight Special!
You missed a special time. I didn’t appreciate it fully back then.
@@Kingfisher1215 I didn't miss it, I watched it frequently, and saw this performance on TV when it happened- that's when I became a fan of Bowie.
Bowie was a unique talent! A one off!
Thanks for these. Most of the artists are gone now, but they live on with their music. Kids today just don't have a clue what great music is. Cheers
Another way back trip down memory lane. David Bowie is do damn good in this performance at the Midnight Special. I truly got to see the best groups and hear the vintage music 🎶 🎵 around. Life was really good back then. It didn't get any better than that.
Always loved this one,trippy vibes……THEN) still🥰 it sober,many yrs.RIP DAVID AND MICK! a great musical comrades 🌹🌹🫶🏼🫶🏼🫶🏼
I watched this when I was 14. I was perplexed but the music was so good. I was sold ❤❤
So awesome Midnight Special shows being available. Thanks!
Our pleasure!
I miss you Starman seeing you do Ziggy Stardust live 72-73 just amazing Thank You
I finally got to see Bowie LIVE in 1991. He opened with this and had this incredible visual trick where he raised on a clear platform in the air making it seem like a 50 foot woman (on a vid screen) was lifting him into the air in the palm of her hand. Entire show was epic. He played for almost 3 hours.
Mick Ronson was such an under rated guitarist and never got the recognition he deserved ❤
I just turned 60, 4 days ago...hard to believe this was almost 50 of them ago.
I'm right behind you! 60 in August.
Bowie part of the cosmos now, looking down and smiling.
Classic ✌🏼Iconic
Such wonderful harmony.
My all-time favourite song. 😍
The remarkable Ronno part in this performance is that he copies the accident what happened in 1969 when Mick Wayne broke his string, here at 3:26 when he detuned the guitar and then Ronno breaks his string at 5:00
RIP greatest musicians of my youth.❤
Bowie x saw him 4 times and never seen anything so inspirational in his unique charisma and Sound n Vision. R I P David and Mick x G
Great backing vocals from Mick.
Thank you, Burt Sugarman!! Say hi to Mary, for us!!
Great to release all these. 🙏
Glad you like them!
Thank you.
That was an iconic + fantastic performance.
Wow is this trip down memory lane THANK YOU!
You bet!
I have been watching bootleg videos of this and other Bowies videos from this particular show for years and most with a lot of quality flaws or missing spots but was happy to see them and could live with them! ...But finally, it's so great to start seeing very high-quality original TMS videos here on "The Midnight Special" channel from Bowie's 1980 Floor Show that aired back in 1973 and I remember it like it was yesterday! ...I sure hope eventually the whole show will be shown in its entirety! ...As there was nothing else ever like it ever since as it was almost the end of his Ziggy-Aladdin persona! ...Absolutely Bowie fantastic!
Thank you Midnight Special for releasing it and the many other shows and artist you have been sharing as I have been praying for many, many, many years for this musical history day to come from you!
The last performance as Ziggy Stardust and Midnight Special (thankfully) captured it. Amazing
Wow, look at Mick Ronson!
I've always been sad I was never able to see Bowie live!
Another legend gone. RIP David.
Of all the songs in the world... I guess it's probably 1-2 million? this one is still my ONE of my favorite songs and I never get tired of it... I can't exactly pinpoint it but it take me far... far away!
I was literally a month and a half old when this came out.
WOW ! Love this song since i was a kid and my mom played
it on our 8 track stereo. lol.
My mom was pregnant with me…
Wish we could see who is on Mellotron!! Such an amazing capture!! ❤
saw Bowie in concert on back-to-back nights in Philly in the late 80s - 40 years later I still remember how stunned I was at what a great performer he was ... RIP
That kicked ass.
My sister was a huge Bowie fan, and I grew up hearing all these songs. Brings me back to childhood!
Stunning 😁
Thank you! 😊
Beautiful piano playing
Those were the 😊days!
Great back-up vocals... really makes the sound....
I was 13, so forgive my ignorance. I LOVED this on radio. But who is the band. Electric guitar, bassist, drummer, keys(?), The bass player and drummer are very impressive on this performance. Adds so much.
The band is the Spiders from Mars. Bassist is the late Trevor Bolder who later spent 30 yrs playing for Uriah Heep after he stopped working with Bowie. The Drummer is Aynsley Dunbar.. Who has played with the likes of Jeff Beck, Journey, Whitesnake to name but a few... He wasn't the original Spiders from Mars drummer who played on the recordings... That was Woody Woodmansey. The lead guitarist is the late Mick Ronson who has a very long list of credits to his name. The rhythm guitarist on this is a mystery to me. And as for the keyboard parts... I can't see them on this but on the original record it's Rick Wakeman of Yes. Hope this info was helpful.
The Bass player is jamming, wow.
Man this channel is a treasure, Love it
Fantastic version.
This channel is pure gold, incredible!
This such is gritty bass and drum heavy version. I love it so much.
Amazing has always. ♥
as ...
Lovely stuff....such memories.....
Love David Bowie and especially his secret weapon within the Spiders,,,Ronno ❤. The whole band were so close and knew each other for years, it’s no wonder, they couldn’t help but be fantastic together!
I saw him in 1974 in Tucson Arizona he was awesome.
A song that so perfectly encapsulates an entire world.
Wow! I remember.. Midnight Special is a treasure.
Awesome start MS...460 subs...in a year you'll be 1M...lot's of great music to come
Hope so!
This is magnificent
Love this song❤
May David Bowie forever rest in peace.
Interesting that Space Oddity came out a few years earlier, yet it still fits in with Bowies Ziggy persona
David Bowie genio para la eternidad!!!
Bass player ripping it up in the background 💯🔥
Awesome performance!
Absolutely killer!
We would rush home or stay out late to watch Midnight Special.
phenomenal
Crazy you can actually see the blue in BOTH of Bowie's eyes!
David was a different man on every album
Imagine if the first astronauts on the moon met a person walking around who looked like Bowie. Total freak out.
RONNO!🚀🤘🎸
That’s the best it can ever get
beautiful eyes
The man was a..
GENIUS ✌🏾
David Bowie was the first conert i went to in Chicago 1975.
Lets all take a moment to admire that bass line!!?
Awsome
What a performance.
Wow!
