- This is my re-edit of 'Space Oddity' from the 1973 TV special 'The 1980 Floor Show'.
The broadcast version of this song began with 30 seconds of library footage of a rocket launch playing over the intro. Later in the song, there were two further lengthy cutaways to NASA footage taking us out of the performance. Maybe it seemed like a good idea at the time, but it feels dated now, and I know I'd rather be watching Bowie and Ronson play than looking at stock film of a satellite in orbit.
So I've ditched all the 'space' footage and restored this to a pure performance film. I've used out-takes footage to fill in the blanks and matched it with the better quality footage taken from the actual broadcast.

What a damn good performance! They were the real deal. Playing a song live without some studio track for a song like that, and making it sound the same. Unbelievable.
that would be unheard of in the 70s we had so many tallented instramentalists in all rock bands.;IT WAS THE NORM .ITS CALED TALLENT AND WORK.

As a kid, stayed up late to record this show simulcast on FM record. Cassette tape. By far this is the best version of this song that Bowie ever did. A fantastic show.

I saw “Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders From Mars” at the Hollywood Palladium. It was a few weeks after the Santa Monica show. Blew my mind to see it again! Wow. Thanks so much! It’s like reliving the experience. Truly Great Show.

This much more that a pop song.a song about space era. This indirectly is a song about growing up and living with the memoirs of your parents. Its so perfect and touching

I remember when this broadcast in the US for the first time as a Midnight Special exclusive. It was so awesome! I was a teen who had only recently at that time become a Bowie fan which I had to sort of keep under my hat living in the Houston area.

No, I just got into Bowie about three months ago. I suppose it takes time to truly understand his beauty and talent. Bowie is a very unique artist and there will never be another artist out there with as much creativity as he had..This is all opinionated though.

when this music was new very few of us ever saw film like this of Bowie and so many other artists ... and we only had our imaginations....Bowie concerts were rare and getting a ticket was even harder since average people had no money for such things .. now I have all the money I need and I cant see anything like it except this and for free .....it is quite remarkable to see this archive...thank you, sir
