I have probably watched this video 100 times and it never fails to feel like one of the most sincere and heartfelt performances of all times. RIP dear David, you ARE a Hero.
He passed away today eight years ago and one radio station in NZ that I listen to commemorated his passing by playing this song today. So appropriate and respectful.
I am sitting here in my flat in Berlin, not far from the Wall, and listen to this wonderful performance...I cannot emphasise enough how life-changing David Bowie's music has been to me and a lot of my friends. I am 55 years now, and David would have been 77 a few days earlier, and still discover new tiny aspects in his music and simply enjoy it. What a chance we have to live today and be able to still listen to his music.

I watch this most days. I think its the fact that David is having such fun himself that makes it so joyous. Such a tragic loss to not have him with us still today
Having a night with him in April in a time when I am grateful we can watch his performances and see what a brilliant artist he was through his music and also his performance of that music. What a wonderful medium we have to capture lightning in a bottle.
I could consider this one of his most honest genuine and truly most memorable performances ever. I cried like a baby when I heard about his passing because I didn't even know he was sick. Until I found out that nobody knew just how ill he truly was. I miss him terribly
I'm not even a Bowie fan but I keep coming back to this song and wondering how did I miss such a wonderful artist. This guy rocks. Hope he is looking down at me from heaven and tutting at my ignorance.
The power and emotion of this song and particularly this performance overwhelms. Pushing 77 now and I should be getting over it but it still makes me close to tearing up. What a guy.
The bass lines and drums drive this version of hero’s unbelievable talent she was jumping up and down with excitement at the end RIP David we all loved you ❤
Look at that crowd. What a man he was. Loved him. Saw so many of his gigs and still cry that hes dead. How can we love someone we never even met. Its magic I guess.
@@DippyHippie I still wonder sometimes: did Jimi, Jim, Bowie, Ronnie Van Zant, et al..drop from space, or another planet that thrives on creativity? Rather than coming to conquer, brought joy and meaning to others? I'm tellin ya man, we need some kind of visitation👽
Such a beautiful song. I cry every time I play this live version of "Heroes". From start to finish this is so powerful. Even Bowie at the end:"I felt that". He knows this is a powerful song. What a great band that was assembled for the performance
David brought eternal joy through everything that he touched. The level of happiness and kindness he shared with so many people was mind blowing. We miss your smile and laughter but we continue to fill our hearts and enjoy your works of art always.
November 24 ....still get goose bumps when I hear this. Adore Bowie....I'm 44 days away from turning 45 and can appreciate this man was a bloody hero. Will always favour real music over bubblegum pop ❤
Bowie is at the top of his game here. Something very special happened in this performance. His love of everything music escapes right here in his voice from his heart and soul . A one of a kind hardworking musician. Gif bless and rest in peace . Thank you for your talent .
Daren, Oh hell yes. He is just unbelievable! A trendsetter in his time. "Such a lovely man"! He really is. Such an icon. He has been around for a very long time. To bad we had to loose him in 2016, a minute ago really seems like he is still here. He was so alive. Dusty the 2nd.
Goosebumps. When he utters the first words, knowing what's coming, that build up. Such a simple song, in terms of the sparse phrasing, but so so so deep with feeling/meaning that it far surpasses everyone and everything. Bowies performance, his delivery is so powerful, and he takes you with him on that emotional journey, with just a few words, we can be heroes......just for one day💜✌
Because he was singing this song, in the city where it was written and meant so much to him and the Berliners. Since he sang it at the wall and the east Germans were on the other side singing it with him. After the fall of the wall, every concert he had in Berlin afterwards, he knew they were now there with him, singing it together. He said himself, singing Heroes anywhere else in the world, did not give him the same feeling as it did in Berlin. David loved Berlin, just as much as Berlin loved David.
This had me on my knees, gutted and bawling. What a transcended delivery of a song about defiant hope and righteous love. I still can't believe this powerful light has gone out of this world.
This is Bowie at his best. Great song, historic venue and a wonderful band. I use it now as a source of relaxation and joy...ladies and gentlemen, David Bowie. God bless.
BOWIE my main man grew up listening to him going surfing on his music saw him 3 times he came to Australia iam 57 years old he stills rock's.. Way before his time...! LEGEND.... Max Walker ...!
Bowie was every part of this song. He lived it. It was his essence. There are only a few musicians that can make you feel that they are the music. He’s one of the greats.
Whenever I’m feeling down, this song pops into my head and this particular version is where I go to. I love his banter at the beginning. “Oh shut up Bowie”… haha. What a gift to the world. I’m always in a better mood after hearing this song. It’s so powerful how it builds. Pure genius.
Bowie is in my opinion the greatest artist that has ever existed. He was revolutionary, daring, excentric and persistant. He had an amazing and unique voice and look how he smiled throughout this whole performance, simply brilliant. Bowie has created timeless and immensely well-written songs and he did it ALL BY HIMSELF. What a legend.
i agree, but its actually better - he did it with his friends, not by himself. This song for example (Heroes), the hook line was written by Robert Fripp with assistance from Brian Eno. But you are totally correct my friend, the guy was an absolute gentleman from a forgotten age i wish we could return to
@@tachikomakusanagi3744 Yeah that's true but I meant it more in a way that e.g. in a band like Queen, all the band members could come up with new ideas and melodies for a song which is not the case with a solo artist like David Bowie. That is what makes it more impressive for me that David Bowie created most of his songs all by himself.
No Timothy, they were friends, and none of them impersonated the others. But both of them reached legend status at least by me. If I’m listening David, I have the urge to listen to Marc next!
Bowie makes being "cool" effortless! Whoever says the best things you will do in life are in your 20’s never met Bowie in his late 50’s. What a gorgeous voice. He was my favourite singer ever. I miss him❤️
luis Vilaça I think only people in their 20s would think that. Ha. I did a lot of fun stuff then, but didn’t appreciate it. It takes time to know what you’re doing.
Jay Mack. I come here because I love this song and love Bowie. But I feel you. I seem to come here more often right now. Hate this self quarantining shit. Dusty the 2nd.
@@Inthemixmedia He had to reinvent himself many times. Meaning, there was failures. And all those changes ultimately created this awesome version of David Bowie. Nothing wrong with struggling, pain and failures. They more than all else build our characters, we all struggle through life and for good reason.
+AttnJack Yes, its kind of frightening how many people seem to prefer to experience the world through a little hand held picture. In a way its like experience itself has become a commodity to capture on a phone, rather than life, to be lived.
Amazing how he totally owns the stage and the audience with his presense. And he is so relaxed, and natural - no fancy dancing, no choreography to speak of - just a perfect suit, a breeze in the air.......
Bowie was a total icon. His music was the backdrop to my teenage years and early adulthood. Heroes is just a hypnotic song that draws you along with its pulsating rhythm.
David Bowie arrived 1/8/1947 - BlackStar arrived 1/10/2016 - So the Monday after reading about the death of David Bowie I read Sammy Hagar (The Red Rocker) as he spoke about how David had influenced him so much and he really wished that he had met him. …So I replied to Sammy that “You did Sammy, you have met him, as once you hear David Bowie and he enters your soul, you know him and you will never be the same again, ever! - - - - I then mentioned how strange it is that when there is someone you've never met before passes, you can still feel such a loss. ….David stayed up with me many a lonely night over the last 45 years - making my bad days better - my nights brighter, all while making me a better musician. ...What a talent. - What a career. - What a loss. - What a soul and thank you for sharing it and thanks for touching mine. -J.D.Gragg We all know there is a footprint on the Moon - now we know there is one on Mars, David Bowie's.
Lady BlackStardust Daniyal Zulfiqar Well thank the both of you so much as that was a very nice and educational on many levels to have said - and you're right, as I felt it. ...My comment above happened just like that, I just started writing as a reply to Sammy hagar with absolutely no thought about it, it was if I didn't write it. ...I know, strange huh. ...I have had this experience once before and that has since became my 'creed' for my life. ...I lived a rather private proxy life and didn't get on Facebook till the very end of 2010 - (I still even use an avatar rather than my picture for my profile) then within the first year I believe - there was a famous Frenchman author and artist named Theodore Zeldman in France that contacted me in the U.S. and asked me to join the Oxford Muse. ...I was very surprised and humbled that he knew I was an "American Inventor" so he apparently knew somewhat about how people and inventors think because he asked to do the most profound thing. ....He said to step away from the computer - stop multi-tasking - slow down and think about what I really wanted to accomplish in life. ...Not problem solving, not completing a project, not a task for that day, but for my life as an entirety, so I did. So I sat down and started writing by hand about what I wanted to accomplish and how I felt about life, and that is when 'that' happened to me. I sat and wrote just without thinking really - just letting my subconscious take over. ...So after I finished it - I read it - and it was like an out-of-body experience, because I felt like I wasn't the one that wrote it! ....It was very bizarre. ....It's not too long but it would look like that on this thread, so please go to my page and read my 'Creed' it as maybe it will inspire you as your comments here has inspired me. ...And you truly have! ......Sincerely, J.D.Gragg
+JD Gragg : Concur with you totally. Did not 'discover' Bowie until early 70's in elementary Catholic school - a couple of the cool kids were into him while everybody else was into Elton John! At that point, my journey with Bowie's began. May you rest in peace knowing that you made such a positive difference in this world.
Crying my eyes out right now! The whole crowd as one. This man's music came into my life when I was an angry, broken teenager...as were my friends. Now I'm an angry, broken old man, and it has the same effect on me: healing
Completely & Absolutely Right ... what amazing songs he left us with ... I'm a one man band on YT and find performing his music inspiring ... Bowie fans have been very kind to me.
The range, power, and control he had was incredible. He hits the low growls, high notes, and teeters on brink of what sounds like straining and yet still sounds in total command. Best ever IMHO.
One of my all time favorite songs. I had the privilege of seeing Mr. Bowie in Philly with my oldest sister in the 1970s sometime. May they both RIP 🙏 ❤😢......
This is one if the performances that also picks up the initial ironic vibe of the song, at the same time remaining epic and heartbreaking and uplifting at the same time. Such a unique song.

Lyrics
I, I will be king
And you, you will be queen
Though nothing, will drive them away
We can beat them, just for one day
We can be heroes, just for one day
And you, you can be mean
And I, I'll drink all the time
'Cause we're lovers, and that is a fact
Yes we're lovers, and that is that
Though nothing, will keep us together
We could steal time, just for one day
We can be heroes, forever and ever
What'd you say?
I, I wish you could swim
Like the dolphins, like dolphins can swim
Though nothing, nothing will keep us together
We can beat them, forever and ever
Oh, we can be heroes, just for one day
I, I will be king
And you, you will be queen
Though nothing, will drive them away
We can be heroes, just for one day
We can be us, just for one day
I, I can remember (I remember)
Standing, by the wall (by the wall)
And the guns, shot above our heads (over our heads)
And we kissed, as though nothing could fall (nothing could fall)
And the shame, was on the other side
Oh, we can beat them, forever and ever
Then we could be heroes, just for one day
We can be heroes
We can be heroes
We can be heroes
Just for one day
We can be heroes
We're nothing, and nothing will help us
Maybe we're lying, then you better not stay
But we could be safer, just for one day
Oh-oh-oh-ohh, oh-oh-oh-ohh, just for one day

Hi, Anthony. Same here.I am 63. I am grateful for the incredible music he left us. I saw him in 1986 for an unforgettabl!e performance!
You know it man.
That, my children, is what you call a Legend.

I watch this most days. I think its the fact that David is having such fun himself that makes it so joyous. Such a tragic loss to not have him with us still today
2024 and still listening to David's Magic, we miss you master
It will be forever....

Having a night with him in April in a time when I am grateful we can watch his performances and see what a brilliant artist he was through his music and also his performance of that music. What a wonderful medium we have to capture lightning in a bottle.
My Kids do too, so we got at least one more generation!
Same here..
I could consider this one of his most honest genuine and truly most memorable performances ever. I cried like a baby when I heard about his passing because I didn't even know he was sick. Until I found out that nobody knew just how ill he truly was. I miss him terribly
As do we all, my friend...😪
Can't stop listening to him. What a genius.
The best version of this song, am I right ? 🥰

Nobody can perform a song like that. Such smooth power. What an absolute legend.
I'm not even a Bowie fan but I keep coming back to this song and wondering how did I miss such a wonderful artist. This guy rocks. Hope he is looking down at me from heaven and tutting at my ignorance.
We will always have Mravinci:)

He was a beautiful bold butterfly. Brave enough to be/express himself. Ever evolving. He will always be one of my hero’s. ❤️🦸🏼♂️❤️

Such a beautiful song. I cry every time I play this live version of "Heroes". From start to finish this is so powerful. Even Bowie at the end:"I felt that". He knows this is a powerful song. What a great band that was assembled for the performance

Bowie is at the top of his game here. Something very special happened in this performance. His love of everything music escapes right here in his voice from his heart and soul . A one of a kind hardworking musician. Gif bless and rest in peace . Thank you for your talent .
Yes it really is a sensational performance, he was a gift and I feel honoured that I was actually able to see him live once in my life.

There will never be a musician like Sir. David Bowie. Those of us who grew up with his music are truly blessed.
A tortured soul
A complete legend sadly lost
Words cannot express the joy thAt I felt when listening to Bowie I will truly miss my hero

I grew up with his music in the 70's nobody is better than Bowie!
An absolute all-time favourite track for the many layers it has. Impossible to stand or sit still. Fabulous!

He looks so happy here. Just beautiful
Always.
I went to see Bowie in Berlin in the early 80s. Little Red Shoe Tour, if I'm not mistaken. Great show!

+tms6279 your comment nailed it ...so true
indeed i ll miss him for ever
There have been more than a few, but yes he definitely did.
David Bowie was simply enough a true classic!
One word: Goosebumps! RIP♥️
ALL BY HIMSELF? Bowie started out as a Marc Bolan impersonator. Bolan is very good. You should check him out.
No Timothy, they were friends, and none of them impersonated the others. But both of them reached legend status at least by me. If I’m listening David, I have the urge to listen to Marc next!

& you add measurably to my faith that we'll get through all these MANY troubles. Just keep listening to David Bowie.
It's hard to believe he ever struggled to become who he worked so hard to be. His star will forever shine brightly.
He didn't struggle
@@Inthemixmedia He most certainly had. As most all artist do, he worked hard to become what he was. Read his bios, he had a tough time of it...
@@Inthemixmedia He had to reinvent himself many times. Meaning, there was failures. And all those changes ultimately created this awesome version of David Bowie.
Nothing wrong with struggling, pain and failures. They more than all else build our characters, we all struggle through life and for good reason.

+ArcturanMegadonkey That was a great crowd before cell phone cameras.

David Bowie arrived 1/8/1947 - BlackStar arrived 1/10/2016
- So the Monday after reading about the death of David Bowie I read Sammy Hagar (The Red Rocker) as he spoke about how David had influenced him so much and he really wished that he had met him. -J.D.Gragg
We all know there is a footprint on the Moon - now we know there is one on Mars, David Bowie's.
What a fantastic heart touching description. Hats off JD
