The year 2024 is speaking here. It still is and always has been The Cure's hottest song. There are many other songs but this one is outstanding. I will never forget the 80s and the beginning of the 90s... it was an amazing time. Puberty, slowly growing up (if you did at all). The rebelliousness you felt inside. You just didn't know exactly what or who you were rebelling against at the beginning. When I close my eyes to this song, I'm back in those moments, which makes this song so amazingly real. It's so cool how this song brings back so many memories. Smoky discos, the smell of teen spirit (literally, not because of the Nirvana song). A bottle of beer in hand and everyone doing the same Cure-style dance. Along with the Sisters of Mercy, The Cure helped me through every depression, relationship drama, stress, heartbreak and all that other fucked up shit. And now, all these decades later, not much has changed. Ok, you've gotten older, the problems and worries are perhaps of a different nature, but they're somehow the same, just from a different perspective or in a different way. The Cure is literally the cure for such situations. Growing up sucks sometimes.
Oh Sisters of Mercy are a favourite!!! I went into a record shop in Bendigo Australia in 1991 and heard this amazing music over the shop speakers. It was Sisters of Mercy! I fell in love in that shop with their music. And they had to order it in for me from the UK. Still have it. Wish I hade seen The Cure when I had the chance 😢 I’m a bit older than you, AC/DC and Alice Cooper were my teen angst music. But in a good way. I was extremely rebellious and my mum was on Valium because of my behaviour but never crime or drugs. And I actually ended up working for the police here for 15 years. I turned out ok, in spite of my mother thinking I’d end up in prison. 🤣 This performance of this song is fricking amazing to this day!!!!

Cure to this day. 1st show in DC. 84. Lived in London after. Twin daughters now 21. Their background is Cure based. Thanks for sharing. Another note, Cure helped and publicised a band from Seven Sisters that i saw live multiple times. Same genre. 84-87? Any knowledge or feedback appreciated.

No, but close. They played a 20 minute long rendition at their Xmas '87 Kiss Me tour gig at Wembley Arena that I went to, half that was a guitar solo by Robert - absolutely magic. Almost 30 years ago now, sheesh!
Whos still obsessed and listening in 2024 because therr is a complete lack and emotion in so many singers that cant deliver a concept as purr as this !!!
The Cure Live in Concert album released 1984? ...It has the best version for it's pure serious gothic vocals and non of these girly swooning stuff. ..I stopped listening to the Cure way back in 1989..
@@danielbliss8014 they kinda did - the version on mixed up was a re-recording inspired by their live performances because the masters were lost. Also - I fucking saw this version live and it still sticks with me to this day. It was amazing.
+yallow rosa he used to do also love will tears apart as a tribute in a forest,, i did it in a concert for a girl, friend of mine, in the party of her 18 birthday party,,,it was 1989...
+yallow rosa I recall Bernhard Sumner from Joy Division / New Order actually complaining in an interview he was fed up with having his work ripped off by Robert Smith. The Upstairs Room was pretty much a New Order rip off.
Don't normally like long versions of songs, but this one is perfect. The longer it goes, the more it expands. It's awesome. The Forest is a great song to start with.
My favourite extended version of this song is the one they performed during the show I attended at the Gorge on the Wild Mood Swings tour. It was a little different from this one, where they jammed out the outro section of the song for what felt like several minutes. What I wouldn't give for someone out there to have a recording of that version to upload onto RUclips or wherever! One of the best experiences of my life.
Hay canciones que no tienen tiempo, ni edad, ni son una moda. Las podés escuchar hoy, mañana o cuando tengas 80 años como si fuera la primera vez...🤎🧡❤

I saw this live in Sacramento, May 7th 1992, The Forest was the last song they played in the last encore, it was phukin PHENOMINAL, will never forget it
+Joachim Peiper Neither will I (And I got my tinnitus started on the same tour on one of their venues in Sweden). Still remembering the length of that gig as so great (four hours something).
For real though. Im in my 40s , autistic, now disabled, ptsd from a bad childhood. Lost half my family by the age of 25. Almost died in the Twin Towers. I wouldn't still be here today after all the shit Ive been through if I hadn't discovered this song in my teens. Peace out and keep fighting my friemds

my father in law worked with Ian Curtis at the DHSS in Macclesfield during the late 70s. he died recently and just happened to be cremated at the same place as Curtis. he said that it was such a shame that he was so unhappy, and that he was an articulate , helpful and very caring individual... a pleasure to work with.
Bar none, the best iteration of the Forest ever. Robert is a musical genius and a once in generation singer. Pure magic. The world is fortunate to have him.
This is one of my favorite songs by The Cure. They are my favorite band in the world. I was born in 86, but i grew up listening to 80s and classic/heavy metal music. 80s music will always rule!
Hey good music comes from the soul thus making it timeless I'll listen to anything that has some soul in it. No need to restrict based upon time. Which is why mainstream music usually does not have ppl revisiting it in 34 years. Not always but c'mon I'm not about to meditate w/ ice ice baby.
Respect to The Cure, Depeche Mode, New Order/Joy Division. Best music ever made. No one will even come close to what they have done. Hmm naybe nirvana or the doors.

This version of ‘A Forest’ is a gift to Cure fans, especially to the fans who were at this show. Wow oh WOW! An epic version of the song…. One downside to it is that the song doesn’t continue forever. If only I could turn back time and place myself at this show. 😌
In 1992 I was at the best concert of my life - "The Cure" in Munich, Olympiastadion. I was 30 years old then and I still get blown away when I hear this music - and today, February 21, 2022, I'm celebrating my 60th birthday with "The Cure - A Forest" ... and again and again and again and again and again and again ....

@@johnperkins4611 That's the 1981 version at the Werchter festival. Robert Palmer was up next, and they told them to get off, so they kept playing (and the song ends with the infamous F Robert Palmer, F Rock and Roll from Simon). That is what started the extended versions of the song - but the've had other songs they would do this with. The unreleased song All Mine was an extended jam that changed every time they played it.
No matter how many times I listen to this song, I still feel robbed that the second part (third verse) starting around @06:50 was never formally recorded... those lyrics are just so amazing. I was there with my dad when i was 10 years old. In fact, i think it was this same show because i believe this is Philadelphia, PA. I'm not totally sure tho
But, to me, the 1989 moment was even more energetic. If you hear entreat LP and some of the videos of that tour.... god... Boris was on his very finest moment bringing the time a bit up to all the band.
I feel so old saying this, but I grew up with this music, and I think it has staying power. Thirty years later and I can still listen to this and think it sounds modern and relevant and beautiful.
I agree only got into Cure about 10 years ago (my early thirties) but so glad I did, no mucking about with glamour and distractions just ace atmospheric songs and performed great live.
Same here, have been listening to them since high-school years. Had always wanted to play their music live and finally found myself in a pretty decent Cure tribute band after many years. :)
I remember 11 years old in 91' spent basically all weekend playing Zelda 2 adventures of link on the first Nintendo with my older brother and listening to cure Cd's looking back now it all seems like a dream
This may seem odd........in England literally now, the govt., has sent out census forms to us all........as an example of how to complete it they use a few imaginary names.......hence Robert & Mary Smith.........this remark is pretty pointless......,..odd but true........sorry, to waste your time.........nice day......!
I love how Robert knows exactly when to stop singing and let the music speak for itself, The instrumentals this group has produced over the years are just insane. Also how have his vocals not changed in 40 years.... the man still sings like he's 17!
You probably know this............when he was looking for a singer, he apparently thought....... .l might give it a go.........he wasn't impressed.........others thought he sounded alright...........from small acorns..................
This Sunday there is two hours of Cure, Hyde park, London on sky arts............you can pick it up on ordinary TV's.........l know cos it has been on before........free......in London it is 11..........probably varies............l think it was their last gig in London..........l have it on dvd & it is well worth it......about six. British time.........,.happy evening..............
A timeless charisma! To see « The Cure » is of course to see a group whose great years are far behind. However, it is also seeing a group which despite everything remains at the peak of its charisma. Robert Smith almost still sounds like he did 30 years ago. By sometimes adapting the melodic line he sings, but almost without failing and always being convincing. Seeing this group fabled is always grandiose and unexpected. Thank you Robert and at thy companions road for all these light years that shine like stars. *LM*

@@jeancharlesdiaz8260 I saw them in Halle Tony Garnier, Lyon France, that year on 17.10.1992 but I do not know if this is the one.
*LM*
fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck this version is good
U don't say
the album _Disintegration_ changed everything for The Cure, ensuring them a permanent foothold on the world stage.
